Rookie Blue - Moving Day - Review

Jul 24, 2014

Let’s get down to business. Moving Day is definitely one of the best episodes of this very short season (I’m looking at you, RB producers). For me, at least. Wes is back to wreak havoc on Dov and Chloe’s nerd empire, some Peck siblings interaction, lovely Mcswarek moments and finally some Nick backstory.

Although much to Sergeant Shaw’s and our delight, the officers of 15 were required to wear body mounted cameras throughout their shift, which might have caused inconvenience for some of them. One of them being Chloe.

Chloe and Wes are finally getting the divorce papers signed. They had some celebratory hotdogs after and Wes kissed Chloe leaving her dumbfounded. He could've signed them when he first delivered it to Chloe at the beginning of the episode! Wes is up to something. Unfortunately, Chloe did not manage to get the papers to the lawyers' office on time. Dov offered to drive her there first thing in the morning. I hope this is not one of those storylines where Chloe decided to hold on to the divorce papers because she may have rekindled feelings for Wes. Chloe panicked when she found out the camera was on during the kiss, so she deleted the footage behind Dov’s back. Chloe Price is like the April Kepner (for those who watches Grey’s Anatomy) of Rookie Blue for me. Not only are they both redheads, their somewhat similar personality kind of annoyed me at first. I wasn’t a fan of the character when she was first introduced. But slowly as we got to know her, I began to like her more and more and now I can’t help but root for her. Chloe’s light and bubbly personality is a breath of fresh air for the show and a great addition to the cast. I wish she won’t screw up her relationship with Dov because I adore the two of them together. I really enjoyed the scenes when Chloe was in the squad car and locker room with Andy. They’re not close friends, yet, but their budding friendship surely is great to watch.
That is the face of evil.

We finally learnt something about Nick. It’s like the writers read what I wrote last week and decided to grant my wish and make Nick more interesting. We found out that Nick’s parents died when he was a kid and lived in a group home for three years. Now I understand where his lone wolf personality came from. He’s got to look after himself since he was 12 and put himself through college. Not only did we learn about his past, we also saw his potential love interest for a split second. So my guesses are it’s either a case brings the two together again or he looks her up through the police system. We shall see how this unfolds next week.

Poor Nick thought he's done with cheese puffs when he and Gail was over.

Chris was missing from the episode because he’s in rehab, which is a surprise to me because I thought that he probably lied to Oliver about his behaviour for the past few weeks, months even. Something along the lines of being stressed out or upset about the whole his son not being his son thing. I’m quite disappointed that we didn’t get to see how Oliver and the rest of his colleagues react to this news. It’s like it never happened and no one cares that he’s missing. Maybe being discreet is important and also a protocol when it comes to this kind of situation? Maybe Oliver doesn’t want his fellow officers to be affected? I hope that’s the case. I wish the writers will continue to shed some light on the matter when Chris is out of rehab, because why bother going there if that’s how this storyline is going to end? It would be pretty disappointing.

This week it’s established that Gail’s a lesbian. Gail Peck character development is one of the most important part of this season. It’s like she’s becoming more human, you know? She’s opening up, evolving and changing for the better and we get to see it every week. It’s pretty consistent and I thank the writers for it. I noticed that even with Holly gone, Gail or the other characters are always bringing her up, sort of hinting at us that she’s coming back and hoping we won’t forget about her. I’m pretty confident Holly will be back and hopefully for good because she’s the reason Gail started going through all these positive changes. Also, I would pay good money to witness a Peck family dinner. I think I speak for the fans when I say we need to see this happen on screen.

I'd also pay good money to see the three of them drunk together.

Let’s not forget about case of the week. Everything weaved together really well this episode. Officers of 15 were beckoned to assist residents to move into a new building because the old one will be torn down. Chloe and Andy found someone lying unconscious in one of the apartments and we discovered that the victim is an immigrant, which turned the whole investigation into a human trafficking operation. Nick and Gail came across two kids living without their parents, which is how we learnt about Nick’s backstory.

Last but not least, we end the episode with Sam and Andy having date night in bed, watching TV and eating pizza and being all cuddly. Definitely a swoon-worthy moment for Mcswarek fans.

TOO. SWEET.

I can’t wait for next week’s episode, the promo looked really intense. Duncan will be back too. Only two episodes left, is there anything you guys want to see before the season ends? Let me know if you enjoyed the episode as much as I did!

  1. Good review as always. And we all want a Peck family dinner, but only if Traci and Holly are there. Maximum awkwardness. We need this. ;D

I don't know why but I didn't feel perfect just after that episode as I felt every episodes of season 5. However I am really grateful that we learned something about Nick! I knew from his webisode with the psychologist that his parents died and now we got more details and I really liked the dinner with the social worker. For Chloe except she kissed with Wes I really liked her actions in this week. She is not annoying me anymore. For McSwarek I was really expecting to see them in a romantic dinner (as a continuation of last week's coffee scene, while Sam kissed her in public for first time) but at the end I was really happy about the pizza scene since Andy was really tired after the long and tough shift!

  3. Great episode. The only thing I'm missing is a real conversation between Nick and Andy, instead of the awkward metaphors from the earlier in the season.
