Rookie Blue - Deal with the Devil - Review

Two weeks felt like two years and Rookie Blue is back on Wednesdays starting this week. What started out as a great day for our favourite staff sergeant turned out to be a complete shitty day at the precinct.

We start off the episode with Oliver, Sam and Andy at the Penny. Oliver decides to step down and put on his blue shirt again. Although I think he’s great as a white shirt, I do miss Oliver patrolling the streets with the rookies. Inspector Jarvis though, is not impressed with Oliver’s decision.

Duncan’s dismissal hearing that was supposed to be in two weeks got pushed forward, giving Andy only two hours to prepare. Then we saw Duncan and his fancy lawyers waltzing into 15 and it’s safe to say this will not end well for Andy. And, it did not. To make matters worse, Andy’s union rep is so unprepared that he doesn’t even remember Andy’s name. During the trial, we find out that Duncan recorded a conversation he had with Andy (Surprise, surprise!) at the Penny that made Andy look really bad. I think Duncan staged it. Throughout the conversation, it sounded like Duncan was trying to bait Andy to admit that she didn’t do a good job of being his TO, saying things like letting his stepfather down, which is a little odd to me because l was under the impression that Duncan doesn’t like to throw his stepfather’s name around and that he’s not even his real father. Duncan shouldn’t even be talking to Andy, and vice versa. I might be wrong, I don’t know, but this whole trial just doesn’t sit right with me. Something is off. And I’m going to say that Inspector Jarvis has a part in all of this, that he is using Duncan as a ruse for whatever he’s planning, whether or not if it’s to get Oliver to stick to being staff sergeant or making sure Duncan gets his job back so he doesn’t have to face the commissioner.

Oliver makes a deal with the devil (hence the episode title, right?!), telling Jarvis he’ll remain as staff sergeant if Jarvis agrees to stop the trial from snowballing into one big mess. Jarvis agrees, but only if Duncan returns to 15. Oliver finally rips of the band aid and tells Andy to take responsibility for her mistakes and if she’d known better, they wouldn’t be in this situation. Andy needed to hear those things because it’s true. I, for one can’t wait to see how this plays out when he returns. I want everybody at the precinct to give him the stink eye, give him a tough time during work and treat him like shit. It might be silly, but I really dislike him.

Is the courier sick again, Holly?

After what felt like years, Holly’s finally back! But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows and unicorns like I wanted it to be. Case of the week found itself a thumb in the trash and Gail is being task to go to the morgue and upon seeing Holly she tries to make things right but it’s too late, because Holly’s seeing someone. I don’t believe it’s true, I’m sure she’s only saying that because she’s really hurt. Also because I really like the two of them together. Holly’s disappointed that it has taken Gail a trip to the lab for something work related to reach out. I want Gail to fight for Holly, you can’t tell me this is the end of their relationship after the little speech Gail give Holly.

I will go down with this crazy and beautiful ship.

By the way Gail babysitting Izzie was one of the best things that happened this episode.

This week someone finally finds out what in the world is going on with our puppy loving Chris. Dov found out about Chris’s drug problem and confronts Chris about it back at the apartment. Dov had this calm expression like he’s been through this before because of his brother and Chris is sort of like Dov’s brother, so it was really hard to watch.

You're a cop.

Amidst of handling Chris’s drug storyline, Dov ditches Chloe on her birthday and the present from Wes is pretty much a hint saying “I’m coming for ya!” Dov and Chloe’s relationship will definitely be tested.

At the end of the episode we find Andy playing basketball alone before Sam joins her. It was a sweet Mcswarek moment. This is actually the shortest I’ve written about these two.

This week we learnt that the 22 episodes will be split into two seasons, 5 and 6. Fellow fans of Rookie Blue, we’re left with four more episodes because season 5 ends. In a month. Let that sink in. I’m so not ready for this.

Do you guys think there’s something more to Duncan’s allegations against Andy and 15 or is Duncan just a plain ol’ douchebag? Has the Golly ship official sunk? Will Wes be making a return next week? Let me know!
