It is the shock of the TV renew/cancel season, so it's hardly surprising that people would bring it up. I'm happy for you guys, but it doesn't mean I am any less shocked.
Dahne, I get that. But it's 2 months ago and like I said, it's explained why. So I wonder how long people keep bringing this up. I see another comment on here about the ratings, again. That's also getting old. It's not only about ratings anymore in these modern times in which ppl watch TV in different ways. And the CW is certainly a network that considers more things. And thank God that helped BatB. So it's a bit tiring to me ppl keep bringing that up. It's 2014!
I doubt most people have read anything Pedowitz has said and ratings are still the #1 way to judge whether a TV show is renewed or not. Even in 2014. The CW is a little different in that they almost never cancel a show that has 2 full seasons in the bag and they like to have at least one surprising renewal a year. See Nikita last year.
Ralph and other people, with all due respect, please stop referring to the ratings every time. It's not only about ratings anymore in these modern times in which ppl watch TV in different ways. And the CW is certainly a network that considers more things. And thank God that helped BatB. Mark Pedowitz explained why BatB was renewed and yes, it wasn't because of high ratings. So it's a bit tiring to me ppl keep bringing that up. It's 2014!
I would still maintain that the biggest reason BatB was renewed despite the obvious publicity talk that Pedowitz is going to spew to the press is that it is a CBS production. Much in the way I believe Reign was picked to stay after TVD while TTP was moved to Mondays.
I guess most people have not read it. And yes, the CW is different so it was our luck BatB is on the CW. I still think it's underrated and it was hardly and in the wrong way promoted from the beginning. So it was tough from the beginning. Anyway, judging from Brad Kern's recent interview with TVGuide S3 is going to be a great season. He seems to get now what the fans like and not like. And I can't help it, I just love this show so I'm very happy with it's renewal ;)
Victoria, that's very sad. I wonder why in S2 it wasn't your cup of tea anymore. Did you miss the romance of S1? I must say I'm a big fan and I want VinCat together (I didn't like the love triangles) but that's because it's the heart of the story. But I want to see more than only romance so I like the second half of S2 more. There was more humour and I love that, besides the romance, action and mythology. And by the looks of it S3 will go on this way so I think I'm going to like it. I will never let a certain group of fans stop me from watching.
I guess I just didn't like the direction the show was going, I'm not going to lie, I liked tunning into a show that was mostly romance, but that wasn't the reason, I happen to love shows that create their own mithology, so when they starting delving into beasts origin and all, I was happy, I just thoroughly desliked the whole memory loss storyline. Regarding the hardcore fans, I really have no explanation to what was that bothered me so much, usually I just turn them off and ignore those seriously hardcore and that's enough. But this time, it just wasn't. I'll probably check the remaining of the season out when it's over, and I'll watch the first episode of season 3 to see if they really did learn from their mistakes.
And if the ratings don't matter and it's the international fans and fans who watch online that matter more then they should just release the episodes online and give it's timeslot to something else that would get better ratings and more viewers in the US.
I feel your excitement. I was with Supernatural in the beginning when we were always fighting for renewal. It's a heady experience to be excited about a show and join others who are similarly passionate to promote it. I'm glad it worked out for you guys and I hope the new season is everything you're hoping for.
I have nothing against fans, just intransigent people, and well that's what most hardcore fans are, there's no reasoning with them. That was before my time, but I know my mom watched it and liked it. There's a ch in my country that airs really old tv shows, and I've caught an episode here and there, but I've never actually sat down and watch it, I just may out of curiosity though.
Nice work Ina defending our show! At the end of the day it's up to each individual how he or she spends their time! I love this show too! Did not like first part of S2 either but last 8 episodes have been better. But I stuck with it, didn't watch all the episode but never gave up and that is what I think continues to ensure keeping this show going. The loyal dedicated fans who go above and beyond to support the show. In a world based on money, we even found a way to use that by supporting the advertisers and charities! So yes it is not all about ratings! It's about passion and commitment to a great hour of entertainment and it DOES make a difference!
It could very well flow into the summer. In fact, it is probably a good idea since they need 2 more seasons and Pedowitz is looking to expand to year-round programming anyway. The simple truth is that everything a show runner says and especially at upfronts is all spin. It's a publicity piece that you can't take seriously. It's easily to claim international sales and DVD sales because we rarely have the data needed to corroborate statements and the data we have is generally full of holes so we can't compare it to other shows easily. I am actually suprised that in this age of the internet and social media that there aren't regular reports on TV stats in most countries. Usually I can find a few countries that only have data for a handful of shows.
Hi Victoria, the memory loss story didn't last that long after you quit watching. I had more problems with the love triangles. I think that was their biggest mistake, at least for most of the fans. But after that was over and VinCat found their way back together again it got that S1 feel back again. So I liked the 2nd half of S2 much more. Combined with more humour, what I really like and they're all good at it, it got back on track. And Brad Kern told in recent interviews S3 will be more VinCat centric with them working together so that's music to my ears too. I really hope you give it another try and will like it again :-)
Now you make it about ratings again. I think it's about the money and if they make enough of that it's ok. And the Monday time slot is difficult for more shows, not only for BatB.
That was true but another channel in Germany, Sixx, is going to air S1 again in August (on a better time slot) and S2 after that. And it seems to be a better channel to air a show like BatB with a more suitable audience. So we will see how that goes. And CBS themselves told us BatB is sold to over 200 markets (not countries but still).
I agree, that's tiring too I guess. I don't know why they do that. I do know it's not promoted much (and if in the wrong way from the beginning) by the CW and the fans feel they have to do it. But doing it this way creates just the opposite and that's a shame I think.
Thanks Dahne, that's nice of you to say. Yes, if I'm correct SPN had to fight the first couple of years and see now where they are. Going into their 10th season! I watched and liked it too btw but it isn't aired anymore on Dutch TV since I think the 4th or 5th season so I don't watch it anymore bc of that which is a pity. I hope so too S3 will be what I'm hoping for which is to me a combination of the best of S1 and S2.
Thanks Maureen. I agree. Although I watched all eps but the ones with the love triangles were hard to watch for me. But like you said, it got better and better after that. And I have high expectations for S3!
Well said Ina!! Ralph, outsise USA there are a bunch of people love Batb too and you can understand it if you control the BatB ratings on social media when the show is aired. Me, I'm one of no Usa Beasties that watch the show using internet. Pedowitz understood it, thanks all us Beasties we have show him our love for this awesome Show!!
I have had it about the other show fans that always claim about BatB...Think about your show and don't bother us!!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDelete24 and Under The Dome.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't miss the season finale of Beauty and the Beast. Can't wait!!
ReplyDeleteI'm curious as to why you think the show deserves it. The ratings don't reflect a show that should be renewed.
ReplyDeleteUnder The Dome and Teen Wolf. I saw Beauty and the Beast last night. Loved the flashbacks.
ReplyDeleteLeftovers, Under the Dome and Restless.
ReplyDeleteDahne, I get that. But it's 2 months ago and like I said, it's explained why. So I wonder how long people keep bringing this up. I see another comment on here about the ratings, again. You pretty much put into words how I feel about the show. I also have no plans to continue with how the hardcore fans are.
ReplyDeleteApparently the 1987 version is good with the mythology though. I've been considering buying it the next time I see it on sale.
Watching the Beauty and the Beast season 2 finale! DVR 24 LAD and watch it tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteIs it just as tiring as seeing fans of the show use hashtags on message boards when it doesn't matter or help the show in any way?
ReplyDeleteAnd if the ratings don't matter and it's the international fans and fans who watch online that matter more then they should just release the episodes online and give it's timeslot to something else that would get better ratings and more viewers in the US.

ReplyDeleteIn all likelihood BatB will go to Fridays at midseason. It's not taking up anyone's timeslot.
