USA NETWORK ANNOUNCES PILOT PICK-UP FOR NEW DRAMA SERIES ‘MR. ROBOT’

From ‘True Detective’ Executive Producer Steve Golin, Project Hails from Universal Cable Productions

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA – July 14, 2014 – USA Network announced today the pilot pick-up of the new drama series; MR. ROBOT from executive producers Sam Esmail (“Comet”) and Anonymous Content’s Steve Golin (“True Detective”) and Chad Hamilton (“Breakup at a Wedding”). MR. ROBOT joins the previously announced pilot pick-up of STANISTAN, a drama about State Department workers, covert CIA officers and journalists who operate in a delicate balance of danger and levity, from Universal Cable Productions (UCP).

“MR. ROBOT is a visionary drama.” said Chris McCumber, President of USA Network. “It is a very timely and relatable story that captures both the excitement and danger of today’s digital world.”

MR. ROBOT is a contemporary, culturally resonant drama about a young programmer, Elliot, who suffers from a debilitating anti-social disorder and decides that he can only connect to people by hacking them. He wields his skills as a weapon to protect the people that he cares about. Elliot will find himself in the intersection between a cybersecurity firm he works for and the underworld organizations that are recruiting him to bring down corporate America. From writer and executive producer Esmail and executive producers Golin and Hamilton from Anonymous Content, MR. ROBOT is from Universal Cable Productions.

Interesting premise. I don't know if I'll watch it, until I see cast and what it looks/feels like...

  4. "Hacking" is one of the most misused and abused tropes on TV. Most of the time there are no rules or logic to it and everyone's problems are either magically created or solved by "hacking." You'll have to excuse me if I'm not to enthused by this idea.

Hacking is the Michael Bay of TV tropes.

  6. I was expecting something in the likes of Joey Tribiani's Mac & Cheese. Kidding.
    This sounds good.
