  1. Really not looking forward to this film.

  2. Looks pretty much exactly the same as he did in the old F.F. movie.

  3. Except that this one is grey, not orange.

  4. Now why couldn't they have premiered this (with a better looking background and some spice) at Comjc Con? Seriously Fox failed at Comic Con by not premiering any FF stuff.

  5. Well...I'm certainly less excited. Not because this looks bad in any way but because the entirety of the model looks....gritty and dark.
You can't pull F4 and not go campy with it, the way the entire project looks makes it seem like another Amazing Twilightman.

FOX blew me away with X-Men:DoFP (especially since I disliked First Class) but I suppose that it is REALLY down to a director to pull a solid superhero flick.

Nolan, Singer, Whedon, Branagh,, Favreau, Burton and Raimi certainly pulled it off well. But this looks like another Webb-ish flick

Maybe I'm biased though since I actually enjoyed F4 and Rise of the Silver Surfer

  6. The rate at which stuff is being rebooted is alarming. After The Amazing Spider-Man 3 in 2018, I wonder how long it'll take for Fox to announce a new series? 2 years? 3?

  7. Thought i was the only one who liked those movies! They were no where near as terrible as people say. Would love to see a Silver Surfer movie. Who owns him btw?

  8. The issue with nowadays movie landscape is that people can only accept a dark and gritty superhero movie starring older actors or a Twilight-esque teen drama disguised as a superhero flick.

There's no place for campy, fun loving fantasy heavy movies anymore. F4 1&2 were such movies. They had some good actors (Gruffud, McMahon, Evans, Chiklis and somehow Alba) a good dose of humor and some pretty awesome action sequences.
It was never ment to be like those dark as hell Batman flicks. But people took the Nolan style as the new norm

  9. Agreed. Characters like Spider-Man, Superman are not meant for the "dark" style. FF4 should be toned like the upcoming Guardians.

  10. That's not true. Despite the fact I'm not a fan of the Marvel/Disney movies most of their movies are light comedies and they are the most popular superhero movies right now.
F4 Silver Surfer was terrible. I enjoyed the first one and I didn't mind the camp or the fact that it was light but the second one was terrible. The storyline and the ridiculous wedding stuff was incredible dumb. Also they ruined their opportunity to use Galactus.

  11. I think he means Andrew Garfield's impressively spiky hair:)

  12. but back when the other F4 flicks came out they did suffer under that exact situation (Iron Man and other early MCU movies were a lot more 'grounded' than the newer ones).

More screentime is given to Peters and Gwens romance than to the Lizards backstory or any other backstory, Peter wears his mask for a total of 4 minutes in the entire movie, Peter reveals his identity mid-movie to Gwen for a romantic push (defying the comics and making Peter look incredibly dumb since he JUST became SM). The kiss scene took A LOT longer than the final conversation with the villain.

Brooding loner meets popular girl -> brooding loner reveals his secret -> popular girl falls for brooding loner.

TASM follows the classic romantic-drama formula instead of indulging in super heroic themed scenes.

I knew that you didn't like the MCU flicks but you did like TASM? o.O

  13. wich is why MoS just didn't work for me (note: for me, doesen't mean others can't like it. I enjoy a lot of stuff people consider to be trash)

    ReplyDelete
  14. I liked MoS for the action. Its the 1st time ive seen true Superman combat. However i didnt like the joyless/colorless tone. Wth did Pa Kent go back for that damn dog!!

  15. If they pick a better director for a new Spider-Man franchise (Del Torro? Maybe let Singer do that and combine it with the X-Franchise.....just stay away from directors like Webb) and cast better and more fitting leads (Paul Wesley as Peter, Lauren Ambrose as MJ, Alexander Skarsgard as Eddie Brock, Damian Lewis as Norman Osborne, Will Ferrell as Jonah Jameson, Yvonne Strahovski as Felicia Hardy, Toby Jones as Hammerhead, Robert Carlyle as The Jackal, Cillian Murphy as Morbius, Jason Momoa as Kraven, Christopher Walken as Chameleon, Michael Douglas as Uncle Ben and Julie Andrews as Aunt May) I'd be up for a reboot ^^

  16. And orange is the more proper color.

  17. While I can't speak to the director's skill, I've thus far enjoyed The Amazing Spider-Man movies a hell of a lot more than the Tobey Maguire trilogy. Spidey is more like Spidey should be, in these movies. Tobey played a good Peter Parker, but a terrible Spidey.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Spiderman is Sony, Fox is X-Men and FF but yeah I agree there is no need to reboot but they do it to keep the rights otherwise they go back to the main Marvel studio and they would lose all the potential money from them. Spidey especially makes a load of money and that is why Sony is now doing spin off movies like the Sinister Six.

I mean its a mess really and even if FF bombs they will just wait a couple of more years and try again.

    ReplyDelete
  19. well I sure didn't.
The problem being Spidey, he is NOT a prick that mocks his enemies in a fairly douchy way. He is witty, not a douche
And let's be honest here...Garfields skill has sh*t on Maguire

  20. I'm probably wasting my time answering this because this is entering the territory of "if you disagree with me or enjoy different things then you are dumb" but still...

I loved the first Ironman and Captain America. I liked The Avengers and Cap 2 but the rest of the movies are uninspired and dumb. Also the MCU movies are getting more and more cookie cutter. When I watched Thor 2 I had a deja vu feeling all the time. But MCU can do whatever they want and their blind fans will say they are the best movies ever no matter what and won't never accept any legit criticism (like that awfully stupid mandarin twist).

I enjoyed TASM and TASM 2. I don't care if you hated them or if it's an unpopular opinion. People have the right to enjoy whatever they want. You also seem to hate any that it's remotely dark but many people loved The Dark Knight and it's still considered by the majority the best comic book movie ever.

It's funny that you mention this: Brooding loner meets popular girl -> brooding loner reveals his secret -> popular girl falls for brooding loner because that exact same thing happens in the Raimi movies and the Peter/MJ relationship was also very important in those movies but I guess a lot of people see the Raimi movies with nostalgia glasses and forget the huge flaws all the movies had (especially the third one). Still I loved SM and SM2.

    ReplyDelete
  21. That could apply to many movies and their young stars. TASM 2 and Twilight have nothing in common. People just throw Twilight to make their opinion seem more "legit". If you are going to dislike TASM 2 do it for its legit flaws, not doing a lazy comparison.

  22. The Fantastic Four just does not seem to translate well into film. Ever. Maybe they will prove us wrong this time I am really doubting it. I love comic book superheroe movies but The Fantastic Four just always seems to translate's over into major cheesy territory. They would have to have a pretty strong director, solid script and actually good, strong actors to make it not awful or cheesy. Seriously who was the genius who picked Jessica Alba for the other versions? I mean Jessica Alba. Pretty she is but blonde hair, blue eyed super genius Sue she is not.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah sorry, just fixed that about Sony.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Not sure which version of Spidey you've been watching. In the comics, Spidey continuously mocks everyone, heroes and villains alike. Especially against Wolverine.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hollywood will probably release two reboots at the same time. Let's make a movie with the title "Reboot"?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Exactly. I think people forget Spidey made fun of the villains and did plenty of jokes in the comics. The knife scene in the TASM is exactly how sometimes Spiderman acts in the comics.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Jessica Alba was one of the worst casting choices ever made. The other actors were great or ok but she was terrible and not only because of the fake contacts and hair.

I agree that the Fantastic Four is a difficult concept to pull off but at least I like all the four actors for this movie and Kate Mara is amazing. It will all depend on the director and the script.

    ReplyDelete
  28. it was a question not a 'what you like that?' thing, I merely asked IF you liked TASM but thanks for the explaination. Parker wasn`t brooding in the original though

And yet you ARE allowed to enjoy whatever you like....well...except Twilight. This you may NOT enjoy

    ReplyDelete
  29. ^This all the way!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Meh can't be any worse than the previous films.

    ReplyDelete
  31. That wasn't fantastic four's problem. It had bad acting, a really cheesy if not bad script, not very good effects and just not get chemistry between the actors.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yeah no he mocks people constantly, it's part of his charm.

    ReplyDelete
  33. It very well could be, with the youngifying, and black Johnny Storm etc.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Lol didn't even know they were making a new fantastic four film, I can't imagine it could be any worse then the last one personally so I'll check it out.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ehhm, I kinda like the use of practical effects? it's something to be excited about.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yeah, probably incoming failure

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ehhh, I don't really know what to make of this picture.

    ReplyDelete
  38. How is him being black a bad thing? Besides maybe making him adopted or Sue's half brother. It's not bad. Not to mention Michael B. Jordon is a good actor. Youngifying, the actors are in their 20's so what, they're all good actors, and not any more ridiculous than the Alba or Chris Evans. Even if you're not comparing them again you're basing your view on preconceptions that are inherently negative. There is no reason to say it's gonna suck, hell the cast alone is pretty solid.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker was constantly brooding.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The black Johnny Storm bothers me because it is not needed. Why change the race of a character, just for the sake of creating buzz etc. I don't care if the actor is good or bad.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't think they went out of their way to cast a black actor to create buzz. It's more likely he auditioned for it and won the part (probably this one), but he's a really good actor. I don't get why having a black guy is such a big deal, the actor's ability is far more important. And it's not like Marvel comics isn't doing stuff like this either, Thor's a girl now, the new Captain America in the comics was the Falcon (who was black). Comic book adaptions are doing this right now and have before, as the Rock is set to play Captain Marvel, Perry White was played by Laurence Fishburne, even in Smallville Peter was played by Sam Jones III but is white in the comics. Would you rather some white actor play the character and suck at it?
