A bried word on FX's “Married”, which aired tonight at 10 p.m.
Last week, when I was watching the pilot, I complimented the intelligent humor of the series. It looked like an indie movie, and I'm noy saying this because the actors did many indie movies. The dialogues were well-written and created moving situations. It needed more Judy Greer in it.
This week, EVERYTHING changes.
The series has a different approach in this episode. The formula is different, the humor is still subtle (this is NOT The Big Bang Theory), but it's funny. I'm not going to lie, I laughed several times.
My favorite part of this episode is the fact that they changed the pairs of characters. Last week, we followed Nat Faxon and his friends. This week, we have Judy Greer and Jenny Slate, and Nat Faxon and Brett Gelman.
This episode is about a shower. Yep, you're not blind, a shower. Said like that, it may seem strange. Let me explain it to you. Russ wants to have some intimacy with Lina (again...), but this time in the shower, so he joins her in their small shower. Surprise! Their dog arrives. Just like me, and probably you, they don't want the dog to look at them while they're doing it. Russ takes the dog outside, but the dog hurts his paw - off-screen. They go to the vet. I found this scene funny. The actors actors have been perfectly matched. Faxon and Greer fill the screen with their presence. They are the show!
Let's go back to the episode. The vet bill was pretty expensive. Russ think that they both need a vacation, but they don't have the money and because he really wants this, he asks a friend to lend him money. Now, we're back home, Russ thinks he's going to have the money, so they decide to go to their friend's party.
This obsession with shower continues. Russ wants to take a shower with Lina to the party (how crazy was this?), but they are interrupted and from there, the pairs of character are reversed and we follow them having fun. They get drunk. We open a bottle of wine and eat popcorn to accompany them. We laugh and watch them having fun, without exceeding the limits.
The episode ends with the drunk couple in their beds, talking. This is when I realized that I was already attached to the characters. We have a happy ending because Russ was able to have the money and Jess will help Jess Lina for her resume. I don't know about you, but I smiled, fondly.
Note: 6.5/10 Even if the series took a different tone to be much funnier, it retains its original aspects. The characters have been well-introduced, and all feel very real. FX is on fire this year!
