I don't know why I keep reading articles about this, but since nobody bothers asking us: We are really, truly not working on HIMYD anymore.

HIMYD was fun to work on, terrific cast, terrific writer, but it's over now and we have other stuff we want to do.
— Carter Bays (@CarterBays) July 11, 2014
Maybe in the future it could be something, but I think we need to try something new before we go back to it.

To everyone who wanted to see it, I'm sorry. (And to everyone who didn't, you're welcome!)
— Carter Bays (@CarterBays) July 11, 2014
(Oh and by "terrific writer" I of course meant @spivey_e who is indeed terrific and Craig and I miss terribly!)

Should Dad get a second chance, a new cast would likely be brought in to replace Gerwig & Co. (all of whom were released from their contracts at the end of June).
As the song from the smash hit movie Frozen, "Let it Go", 20th century Fox. This spin-off will not be a flop if it gets picked up by another network.
ReplyDeleteAnd Were Back !
ReplyDeleteSo let me get thing straight. CBS asked Carter & Craig to redo the pilot and they refused because of their huge ego as they were sure they would be able to shop it somewhere else. And now they are back to what CBS asked them to do in the first place.
ReplyDeleteIt's never going to go anywhere even if it gets picked up from another network comedies are very rare these days so it's likely to fail anyway you look at it.
ReplyDeleteHa, I just finished watching Frozen a few minutes ago and I came here with the same comment.
ReplyDeleteThey're also probably hoping that it will give them more time for the backlash from the HIMYM finale settle down a little more so that people that never saw it won't find the bad reviews so easily online when they're trying to decide if they want to give this a chance or not.
ReplyDeleteWe're talking about the same guys who destroyed the show in its final episode so... yeah. Probably no one else wanted the pilot anyway, so they said "oh, ok, let's change a few things. We still are going to kill the father in the end"
ReplyDeleteNo.
ReplyDeleteNo,
No.
Let the franchise die, that ending shot the shows legacy. I have no interest to get invested into something that is probably going to turn sour in the final episode
Unless HIMYD gets picked up in like 10 years or so, this is going to flop and hard. CBS would be wiser just to "Let it go. LET IT GO!" (Sorry, just watched Frozen).
ReplyDeleteIf it gets ordered to series my prediction would be:
Following TBBT: 2.6 for the premiere, then falls to 1s
Not following TBBT: 1.4 for the premiere, then falls to high 0s
Avarage for the season: 1.1
CBS just stop! You have beat the horse to death. The viewers have made it pretty clear with their response that another version of How I Met Your Mother is really not necessary. Give up the dream now and move onto a new project to develop.
ReplyDeleteNo thank you.
ReplyDeleteHa, they're pushing very hard to get this going. After the anger from the HIMYM fans from that finale, would it actually get any people watching?
ReplyDeleteIn theory it might do well in international sales and may be able to get a syndication deal early because of the HIMYM name. That said, I don't see it lasting. Casual viewers might tune in but I doubt the core fanbase will.
ReplyDeleteWell said, there are many talented writers out there with ideas that can turn out to be hits, so why try something that's definetely a long shot at success just because it has the "How I Met" name? Give someone else a chance, please, hits are born from taking risks, or did ABC really think that Lost would have been huge when they picked it up? Did FOX think House was going to be the huge hit that it was? No, they took chances and it paid off.
ReplyDeleteIt's time to take more chances, audiences have made very clear they don't want the same old stuff rehashed, they want new stuff
I'm excited for this. I get it, everyone hated the finale. That doesn't mean that the entire series up to that point was bad. I can still go to any episode in the show(even the ones in the final season) and enjoy it for what it is. Ted still had his life with Tracy, still enjoyed every bit of time he had with her, his kids loved her, the group loved her, that all existed still. Yes, she died in the end. That happens in life. I get that the viewers didn't get to see the long involved lead up to that death but we saw some of it during the season and we saw their lives throughout the season. Same with Barney and Robin. Divorce happens. For those two characters, even if they changed and made marriage work for a while, a long term relationship between the two doesn't fit with the characters we've grown to know all series long. Things happened how things happen in real life. Just because we wanted to see more of it in the finale doesn't undercut the rest of the season/series. Even though some fans think it does.
ReplyDeleteWith all that, again, I'm looking forward to this. Depending on how it does if it gets picked up, the finale may be at the end of season 1 or it may be years down the road. Until then, if they can recreate the magic of HIMYM(with its own twists of course) I'm down to watch it. Discounting the finale, the rest of what they did with the show is pretty much universally agreed upon to be awesome. Until the finale of HIMYD, I'm hoping to see the same for this show.
Oh my God, they will never stop.
ReplyDeleteBury this crap 16 feet under because six isn't enough.
You really compare that crap of a finale to real life?
ReplyDeleteIf they keep Emily Spivey and get another Female co-excutive producer maybe it could work out. Also maybe they should change the format entirely and go from multi-cam sitcom to single cam comedy. Shake things up
ReplyDeleteAs anyone practical person should, yes they did.
ReplyDeleteI schould have mentioned that I was being sarcastic. Anyone who equates that finale with real life is an idiot!
ReplyDeleteDid you like the movie Frozen? It was my favorite movie of last year and I still love the movie!!! "Hi, I'm Olaf and I love warm hugs."
ReplyDeleteIt was ok, I expected more from it. The start was really, really strong so I expected Pixar quality there, but as it went on I felt that there were many interesting things dropped in the middle, such as Elsa dealing with her own fear (no resolution there, just love) and her journey to accept who she is and her own powers.
ReplyDeleteAnna's relationship with Kristoff felt incredibly rush, and Olaf was... well, he was adorable, but I felt like he wasn't used well.
The whole sequence with Anna signing "Do you want to build a snowman?" ending with their parents demise and Anna relucktantly asking Elsa if she wanted to build a snowman was truly emotionally affecting, it got me to tear up, but from there onwards I didn't feel quite as strongly.
As a whole I'd say I liked Frozen, but it didn't live up to the amazing start it had, though it got to a pretty good ending. Everything on the middle I would do some adjustments and then I think I would come to love it
Having liked the HIMYM finale, I would have watched it, but can't say I'm disappointed that it isn't happening. At the very least if they go ahead with it in a few years they might have a fresher spin on things...going straight from HIMYM to HIMYD would have been an overkill move even if the finale had been more widely appreciated.
