Wait what? Sometimes the pre-season cancellations make sense (when the pilots were terrible or they had little to no buzz), but people were actually looking forward to this. Must have been a behind the scenes reason (cost? Issue with a cast member they couldn't recast?)
What! Was looking forward to watching this show see this is why I don't get attach to FOX shows they always cancel before they found their audience or when they didn't even air just like NBC
This show was a very odd pick-up to begin with and the cast photos certainly didn't instil any extra confidence in the project. This is up there with FOX's Past Life for head-scratching series pick-up decisions.
The premise sounded really interesting to me. It was my most looked forward to new show of the season after those released. But then that first trailer came out, and my interest took quite a dip. I was still planning on checking it out though, so this still comes as quite a surprise.
Another Kevin Reilly pick, dude was worse than Paul Lee.
Three shows canceled before debuting (this, Murder Police and Us & Them), thanks to his failure in all levels network TV unfortunately will hold on when it comes to skip pilot season (a good idea poorly executed).
It looked really bad so I'm not going to be upset about this one. Seems like people were actually paying attention to the production and saw it had problems and cancelled it before they spent more money.
So that's how FOX works now? They pick everything to series and then cancel those they don't want. I was looking forward to this show. It could have been really bad, but it could have also been good (I'm thing it was a mix between Da Vinci's Demons and From Dusk Till Dawn). Hopefully they'll release the pilot online someday, I'd really like to see it.
It had flop written all over it, so better to cancel it now before they invest a load more time and money into it only for it to bomb right out the gate. FOX is going to have a bad season without adding this show to the mix. The fact that it hasnt even aired a single episode wont stop people from whining about its cancellation though.
Fox has a history of canceling shows before they air (ie. Goodwin Games, Us & Them, etc.) Not surprised about this one--the trailer was absolutely awful.
Exactly, it was a train wreck and they knew it..... So why not cancel it before the season starts and save having to adjust schedules etc...It allows them to put something else in its place from the start.
Maybe they learned their lesson from Terra Nova? Yes, TN was more probably more expensive and possibly higher quality, but TN was doomed to cancellation before the first episode aired.
I would be interested to know what the numbers are cost wise. How much do you lose cancelling a series before it airs. I would guess sponsor revenue is negligible since whatever airs in its place will get ad revenue. Are production costs eateb by the studio or network or both? A lot of behind-the-scenes aspects like that intrigue me.
I'm also intrigued, they only filmed the pilot and ordered a couple of scripts but do they have to pay the actors, etc for the full season? Clearly the costs of cancelling made better sense than continuing.
I thought about Terra Nova as well, god that seems like a lifetime ago!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
What the hell. Stop cancelling shows before they even air, Fox! I was looking forward to this one too.
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad. I thought it looked like an interesting show
ReplyDeleteWait what?
ReplyDeleteSometimes the pre-season cancellations make sense (when the pilots were terrible or they had little to no buzz), but people were actually looking forward to this. Must have been a behind the scenes reason (cost? Issue with a cast member they couldn't recast?)
THR said creative reasons, but I'm a little worried since Kevin Reilly left.
ReplyDeleteHIEROGLYPH! I WILL AVENGE YOU! Seriously, they picked that as a title to a show, and then put alot of snakes and vampires and stuff in it.
ReplyDeleteWhat! Was looking forward to watching this show see this is why I don't get attach to FOX shows they always cancel before they found their audience or when they didn't even air just like NBC
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of turmoil going on at Fox right now, what with Reilly leaving and all.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame, the show looked interesting.
Didn't see this coming. Seriously, you are not even giving it a chance? I wonder what are those creative concern the network has
ReplyDeleteCan't Blame Kevin Reilly for shit like this anymore
ReplyDeleteI'm scared for shows like The Mindy Project now that he's gone :|
ReplyDeleteThis show was a very odd pick-up to begin with and the cast photos certainly didn't instil any extra confidence in the project. This is up there with FOX's Past Life for head-scratching series pick-up decisions.
ReplyDeletei thought this was a safe bet WOAO! didnt see this coming
ReplyDeleteI'd argue pilot season's looking less and less dead...
ReplyDeleteNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletebummer news as this sounded interesting.... I'll bet the Cancellation Bear is doing a jig right about now.... lol
ReplyDeleteActually Kevin is stepping down after july or august.

You can, he ordered it straight to series.
ReplyDeleteso hes making an extra mess before he leaves?
ReplyDeleteIt looked really bad so I'm not going to be upset about this one. Seems like people were actually paying attention to the production and saw it had problems and cancelled it before they spent more money.

NO,just NO !! This was the show i was looking forward to the most

That's fucked up fox. I haven't seen a ancient Egypt setting in a while I was looking forward to it.
ReplyDeleteNo! I really wanted to see this! The setting sounded so interesting and it looked like it had potential! :(
ReplyDeleteWHAT?! This is a new low for FOX, the show wasn't even given a chance! I was really looking forward to it!
ReplyDeletethat;s just wrong on all levels... I was looking forward to that one
ReplyDeleteSeriously?! It hasn't even aired yet!
ReplyDeleteShit,i was looking forward to seeing this....
ReplyDeleteFox has a history of canceling shows before they air (ie. Goodwin Games, Us & Them, etc.) Not surprised about this one--the trailer was absolutely awful.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised. This is FOX after all.
ReplyDeleteCrazyness!! What is going on at there network?! Oh, well. I am more interested in Ridley Scott's Ancient Egyptian/Alien/ancient alien theory for HBO.
ReplyDeleteya, but that doesn't mean that this is a result of the transition process...
ReplyDeleteI was shocked it was picked up to series frankly.
ReplyDeleteEvery promo video or photo I saw looked worse than a SyFy movie....
Exactly, it was a train wreck and they knew it.....
ReplyDeleteSo why not cancel it before the season starts and save having to adjust schedules etc...It allows them to put something else in its place from the start.
Good on them!
This was one of the shows i was going to check out. Shame.
ReplyDeleteI was going to try this one. Can't say there is much coming from Fox that I am interested in.
ReplyDeleteYeah its rare I applaud networks for cancellations but this was never going to be a hit and was probably going to be an expensive mess.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they learned their lesson from Terra Nova?

Wow. That's interesting. I guess the new guys in charge didn't like this show.
ReplyDeleteNo big loss. It looked terrible.
ReplyDeleteYeah but he wasn't the one that cancelled it
