TVLine has learned exclusively that Santana’s portrayer — who dodged rumors this spring that her days on the show were numbered — is returning for Season 6.
The small-ish catch: Rivera will be billed as a recurring guest star and not as a series regular — a change I’m told she requested (and the producers honored).
Keep in mind, many a Glee vet has seen his or her contract status tweaked over the years and still maintained an active presence on the show (see also: Amber Riley, Jenna Ushkowitz, etc.).
Rivera’s rep could not be reached, while a Glee spokesperson declined to comment.

I hope to see at least the full original cast on the Finale
ReplyDeleteToo bad, she was one of the more interesting remaining characters.
ReplyDeleteCory Monteith. Nuff said.
ReplyDeleteLol we actually have a bigger shot at seeing Cory Monteith than Jessalyn Gilsig. I miss Terri...
ReplyDeleteI'm a little bit shocked that they'd downgrade such a popular character. Though, I feel like this may add a hint of weight to those rumors from a few months ago. Shame. Santana's been one of our constants for the brunt of the show, and one of the few who's been consistently entertaining.
ReplyDeleteHas Ushkowitz been officially demoted as well? As far as I recall, she's been a regular for the entire series, and only been absent from maybe eight episodes.
Like Ron said, I hope we do at least get to see the whole cast for the finale, if not on at least one or two other occasions prior to that. It feels weird with the cast getting smaller and smaller. What are we down to, six characters? That's a drastic drop for a show that once carried an impressive cast of almost 30 (prominent guest stars included in that count).
She asked to be downgraded.
ReplyDeletePrecisely. They'd rather have a regular guest star fans actually appreciate than face contract issue for her being a regular.
ReplyDeleteHe will be there in flashback... not in person but in spirit?
ReplyDeleteTPTB of Glee have issues. When Dianna Agron asked to be downgraded, they gave her so much drama before it actually happened. Same thing they have done with Naya. So much drama and now they say it and confess she asked for it when they have allowed stories planted in the press all year that she was fired and took eternity to correct the rumour.
ReplyDeleteI don't know who still watches. That's the fascinating thing.
