Garfunkel and Oates - Presentation and opening credits

Garfunkel and Oates premieres on Thursday, August 7 at 10/9c on IFC.

Garfunkel and Oates obviously stars Kate Micucci and Riki Lindhome as Oates and Garfunkel, respectively. IFC describes it as "the aspirations and misadventures of Garfunkel & Oates, delving into the personal and professional lives of the duo whose career choices – singing satirical and sometimes dirty songs – leaves them with little in common with their peers, and no one but each other to turn to for support and understanding."

If you're not familiar with their work as comedy-folk singers, you may have seen them in Raising Hope (Kate Micucci was Shelley) or Enlightened (Riki Lindhome played Harper). You may also have not, given that both these series were under-appreciated, underrated underdogs.

All eight episodes are directed by Fred Savage (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Party Down).

IFC is the home of some of television's best comedies:

- Comedy Bang Bang (2012 - ?, 3 seasons / 40 episodes ; season 3 part I (10 episodes) ended 10 days ago).
- Maron (2013 - ?, 2 seasons / 23 episodes ; season 2 ends in 12 days).
- The Spoils of Babylon (2014, mini-series / 6 episodes ; The Spoils Before Dying is unleashed next Summer).

In the past, IFC also produced another two great comedy series, The Onion News Network (2011, 2 seasons / 20 episodes) and The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret (2010-2012, 2 seasons / 12 episodes).

I for one a huge fan of both Maron and Comedy Bang Bang. If you like comedy, you should watch them.

Maron, a very funny comedy about the life of Marc Maron (it's much more comedy-oriented than Louie, to which it drew comparisons because it's a comedian playing a fictionalized version of himself in a low-cost show) has yet to be renewed for season 3.

Comedy Bang Bang, on the other hand, has already been renewed for a 40-episode fourth season!! Season 1 had 10 episodes, seasons 2 and 3 had 20 episodes each, and now they're doubling the order once again ; how will they sustain that creativity and brilliance over 40 episodes (all airing in 2015 apparently)? That's a great question. Until then, the second batch of season 3 episodes will be upon us in the next few weeks.

Those 10 new episodes of CBB will probably be paired with at least some of the first season of Garfunkel and Oates. Its opening credits sequence is already available, setting the tone of the show :

Garfunkel and Oates will be on tour throughout the United States until the end of the year :

On August 22 in Dallas at the House of Blues.
On August 23 in Houston at the House of Blues.
On August 30 in New York, at the Irving Plaza.

On September 5 in Minneapolis at The Varsity.
On September 6 in Chicago at the House of Blues.
On September 27 in San Francisco at the Cobbs.

On October 4 in Seattle at The Neptune.
On October 16 in Los Angeles at the Avalon.
On October 18 in Madison at The Barrymore.

On November 14 in Cincinnati at the Bogart's.
On November 15 in Indianapolis at The Egyptian.
On November 21 in Tampa at The Straz Center.
On November 22 in New Orleans at the House of Blues.

On December 6 in Boston at the Wilbur Theater.

Maybe it will be the female Flight of the Conchords? It seems like the show will be a musical comedy, much like this great HBO comedy series (2007-2009, 2 seasons / 22 episodes) starring Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie as Flight of the Conchords, a New Zealander folk-rock band living in New York (Rhys Darby, Kristen Schaal and David Costabile co-starred).

Let's take a look at some of Garfunkel and Oates' previous work, for those who're not really familiar with them.

They're tackling tough choices :

They're pondering of life-changing experiences :

And they're asking hard questions, like the biggest mystery in LOST :
