With production underway on Season 5 (and after getting a few requests) I decided against my better judgement that it was time for another Casting, Rumor and Speculation post. This year was particular hard for me since so many of the new characters to be introduced have been aged up or have very different physical descriptions than in the books. Plus, I did not expect them to use North and South American actors, but casting Pedro Pascal last year changed everything. I tossed in some HBO alums for fun even though I do not necessarily expect them to be cast in Game of Thrones!
Like the last two years, I looked over various fan-casting posts on the internet and came up with some ideas of my own as well. Please, feel free to suggest actors in the comments! This year I could use a lot of help for a number of roles!
With the uncertainty of exactly how the show moves forward as it quickly approaches surpassing the books, and the need to make the last 4 (or 5) books of the A Song of Ice and Fire into only 3 seasons of TV, Season 5 and beyond could be a unique experience very different from the books. In the end it should make for a very interesting production season of news!
I will be updating this post with production news and casting rumors fairly regularly. I hope to do updates every week or two when news is slow, but I will update the big casting rumors as they come in.

Some very interesting production news and a small casting tidbit as well!
*Spoilers below**
According to his CV British actor Gary Pillai will play a Merchant Captain in two episodes next year.
His CV has him filming with director Mark Myloid (Episodes 5x03 and 5x04) and as leaked last month, he will be transporting an important cast member. The fact he has already started filming suggests he will be transporting Jaime and Bronn into Dorne, and if the Obara audition video is accurate, he will then inform Obarra the Kingslayer has slipped into Dorne planning to take Myrcella back to King's Landing.
The bit of production news features Jaime and Bronn as well!
A few filming details have leaked out thanks to some fan reports to WotW.
They reveal new details for a few scenes that will be created for the TV series including Jaime and Bronn's arrival in Dorne, the two of them killing a viper and eating it, Ellaria hearing of their plans, and an encounter with a Dornish patrol that leads to some fighting.
I love the idea of Cersei sending Jaime to Dorne to rescue Myrcella! It keeps Jaime on screen for fans to enjoy and when he returns without Myrcella it will set up a great fight to create a wedge between Cersei and Jaime!

In an article back in May promoting his new project The Sea Ciaran Hinds revealed he will be back in Season 5!
On Game of Thrones I have not yet been roasted, crucified, slaughtered or whatever they do with people in that show eventually, so I will be coming back for shooting again in the fifth series," he says.
Update#2
It looks like Portstewart Strand in Londonderry, Northern Ireland will be standing in for the shores of Dorne. Locals have spotted the production signs and been kind enough to report to WotW.

Game of thrones setting up for some filming - wonder if they need any ovine extras? @GameOfThrones pic.twitter.com/IZFPmSMVxJ

RD shared a nice report...
"I was up at Portstewart Strand today and managed to watch some of the filming. John Snow and the Knisguard are NOT there. It looks they will be filming in at least 3 locations. The part I saw was in the dune system. Jamie Lannister and Bronn were present with stunt doubles in matching clothes. Bronns usual attire and Jamie wearing a purple leather riding jacket opened. They were accompanied by 6 unarmoured guards, who I presume to be Dornish. The uniforms have me confused as not sure I recognise them. They were yellow/gold with brown patterning through them. They are long gown to the knee and an attached like turban. Their spears are quite exotic and similar to that used by Prince Oberyn. No helmets. They also have 4 dressed horses. The scene that I saw was Bronn (the actor himself) pulling a sword from the sand and spinning to duel with an oncoming soldier on horse with a spear. They also have 2 boats, one old looking row boat and a rib (for film crew I guess) They had guys in wetsuits planning something today, I presume for future filming. They also had 3 people on horses doing some sort of rehearsing by riding into the sea and looking out or something but again no filming."
Markalav shared a couple pictures of what RD described..
Nice to have confirmation of Jaime and Bronn in Dorne. Sounds like they are filming a scene where Jaime and Bronn try to sneak into Dorne and need to fight their way out. If the Sand Snake audition scenes are going to be in the series I expect Bronn or both of them to be captured and brought to the Sand Snakes... Eeek!

No casting news today, but some rather big and spoiler filled production news!
After reading that one of the questions for possible extras was 'Will you be willing to appear naked in the show?' I wondered, but ....
We heard that HBO asked the Dubrovnik city council to allow filming of a scene in which a naked actress walks from the Dubrovnik cathedral to the Sponza Palace entrance (readers of course know who that is). The scene will require about 500 extras. As the map (courtesy of Sue) shows, the two locations are set at opposite ends of the old city’s main thoroughfare, Stradun.Via WotW.
Some wondered if the actress would be up for the scene... I'm glad she is since it is one of the most powerful scenes of the entire series to me. This news strengthens my view that they will move entirely through AFFC and ADWD material this year.

Another nice casting scoop from the fabulous new site WatchersOnTheWall!
The news brings some of the smaller roles that are to be cast for Season 5. Most have place holder names, but the descriptions can be interesting!
In Dorne:
"Horseman"
- The show is seeking an actor to play a thirty-something Dornish man described as confident, fierce and charismatic and most notably, skilled with riding horses. They’ll have fight scenes that take place entirely on horseback. The character interacts with the main cast in an important sequence, and is considered someone you wouldn’t want to tangle with. The actor is only needed for a week’s worth of filming....
I think this almost certainly means no Darkstar. Cheer or groan, whichever applies to you! XD
In Essos:
"Son"
- The show is casting for a young man to play a captured vigilante, referred to as a “Son.”
Sons of the Harpy will make the series! I'm glad since it was one of the best elements in Dany's arc to me.
"Unnamed Fighter"
- A young Unsullied fighter who likes to spend time at Meereenese brothels, enjoying the affections of the women in his own way.
Stalwart Shield anyone?
"Ship's Captain"
- We’ll be seeing a ship’s captain in two episodes next season, working with a main cast member. The role is quite small but the captain is carrying an important passenger.
Is he carrying Tyrion to Essos, Sam and Company to Braavos, smuggling Jaime into Dorne, or perhaps a Young Griff is on deck? My money is on Tyrion....
Unknown Region:
"Elderly Serving Woman"
- Brienne will encounter an elderly serving woman who becomes her ally in dangerous territory. The character will appear in a few episodes, though the role is small.
Perhaps Brienne will be in Frey or Bolton territory next year? Does Brienne go South to the Crossroads Inn again to encounter Masha Heddle or the BwoB?
"Man in his fifties"
- Required to be thin and have a long, thin face, to play a character with financial cunning and steeliness. The character has several scenes over two episodes.
Maybe someone related to the Iron Bank or a new Master of Coin in King's Landing?
Also of note from WotW..
Walda Frey and the Braavosi Ship Captain Arya encountered will return next year.
Update #2
Two other notes of interest from the internet today:
1 -
Jorah Mormont is in series 5 of Game of Thrones. I met Iain Glen yesterday & he told he was to start filming soon #iainglen #gameofthrones
— IainGlenfans (@iainglenfans) July 27, 2014
So if anyone was worried about Jorah being in Season 5, fret not!
2 - According to his CV, Gary Oliver (Ternesio Terys, Braavosi ship captain of the Titan's Daughter) will be filming with various directors on Season 5. Assuming we see him in Episode 5x01 or 5x02 transporting Arya or dropping her off in Braavos, it seems like he will be in at least one more episode since each director is filming two episodes in a row this year.
Could it mean he is in on of the late episodes transporting Sam to Oldtown?
I hope so! Of course it could also be that Arya doe not arrive in Braavos until Episode 5x03 or that because he is in multiple episodes his agent assumed there would be multiple directors.

Variety hints that there could be major casting news at Comic-Con on Friday!
"
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have already confirmed that the sprawling series is heading to Oberyn Martell’s homeland of Dorne next season. Plus, the web is rife with speculation as to who will play his daughters, known as the Sand Snakes. Expect those casting reveals and a few more (such as Bronn’s new bride, Lady Lollys Stokeworth; religious leader The High Sparrow; Oberyn’s brother, Prince Doran, and his bodyguard, Areo Hotah, and other members of the Martell clan) and hopefully a comment from the producers on the whereabouts of Lady Stoneheart."
Nothing truly new here since many have expected a big casting announcement at Comic-Con this year. Not sure this if this is a guarantee based on insider information or simply speculation, but I'm hoping for something similar to Season 3's New Cast Video...

Nothing new on the casting front yet, but...
It appears that Season 5 filming may have started!!
Downtown Radio and users on Twitter have reported seeing the familiar Game of thrones film signs posted at shoot locations.
The most interesting report to me comes from Jon on Twitter who commented seeing the signs around Scrabo Tower. That combined with recent Sean Bean comments to Vulture that he would like to appear on Game of Thrones again makes many wonder if that could be the Tower of Joy.. THE f$(%^9 TOWER OF JOY!
The photos of Scrabo Tower certainly make me think of the ToJ... and all that comes with that much anticipated scene! Here is hoping the Seven hear our prayers!
Also of interest...
Last week WiC reported that ABCdesevilla had news on Season 5 shoot locations.
location shoots for season five of Game of Thrones will happen in October, from the 14th to the 22nd at the Real Alcázar in Seville, and then the show will move on to Osuna. Preparations of the alcázar will begin the week before.
Additionally, according to ABC.es, HBO has retained special permission to dye dark blue the waters of the pond surrounding the statue of Mercury. The show will use an eco-friendly product that evaporates several days after being used in the water
Watergardens for sure! Looking forward to Dorne and all it brings!

From WiC,
The New Zealand Herald reports that Keisha Castle-Hughes is rumored to be joining Game of Thrones to play a Sand Snake!!
Which Sand Snake the 24-year old actress will play was not stated. The newspaper cites Castle-Hughes’s Twitter activity as another possible hint at casting, with her traveling to London and Belfast recently and frequently expressing enthusiasm for the show.
I saw her in Whale Rider years ago and was impressed, but have not seen her in anything since.... She could make a great Sand Snake, maybe Obara or Nymeria judging from her age and look. She is not how I pictured Nymeria personally, but she could be a nice fit for the description of Lady Nym in the casting leaks. Regardless, she is a quality actress and should be great as whichever Sand Snake she portrays!

I thought I would collect the recent production rumors as a start since the casting rumors have been slow coming this year!
- Production news has leaked out from Iceland's RUV that Game of Thrones will be filming in Iceland once more, but only to get a few sprawling landscape shots. No actors needed. There was originally a plan to film a battle in November, but when the scene grew in scale the logistics of filming that time of year with limited daylight hours left the production looking for a new location.
- This year the Game of Thrones production will visit Spain!
HBO is pleased to confirm that a portion of season five of GAME OF THRONES will be shot on several natural locations in the Province of Sevilla. Specifics on the locations will be announced closer to the time of production.- HBO Press Release
WiC reported that "according to Cadena SER’s sources The Alcázar of Seville has been finalized, as the other palatial candidates were ruled out."
Winter-is-Coming also posted that various news outlets have reported location scouts were seen around the country and that the Andalusian region was chosen. HBO has not officially confirmed any specific locations, but the cities if Seville and Osuna have begun preparations.
In addition the Spanish newspaper El Mundo spoke with Rosario Andújar, the mayor of Osuna, who revealed production members had been to several sites that may be used including The Plaza de Toros, The University, La Colegiata, and The Canteras de Osuna.
Plaza de Toros and the Conteras de Osuna:
The University and the Colegiate de Osuna:
I think The Alcázar of Seville would make a wonderful Water Gardens and the ceiling in its Hall of Ambassadors reminds of the Sunspear throne room ceiling in the books... I think the Plaza de Toros will be the perfect Daznak's Pit!
- The production team also added one more stop in Croatia this year, the coastal city of Å ibenik. Home to fortresses, a Mediterranean medieval city, palaces, churches and Dalmatian stone houses it will add a new look to the series.
I think it could make a very good Braavos personally. Compare the two pictures below and imagine the VFX they could add....

Five or six weeks ago Winter-is-Coming a couple reports of new characters to be added for Season 5. The list is not complete and there has been no official HBO confirmation. That said, it is a nice starting point!

Roles Being Cast for Season 5
________________________________________________________________________________________
Prince Doran Martell:
The older brother of Oberyn, Doran Nymeros Martell is the head of House Martell, the Prince of Dorne, and the Lord of Sunspear. He is described as the major new player this year, appearing in multiple episodes. The fifty-something prince uses a wheelchair, is reclusive and rules wisely. It appears the show is looking to continue the trend it started with Pedro Pascal, and cast Latino actors for the Martell clan.
My Suggestions:
Castulo Guerra, Demian Bichir, Joaquim de Almeida, Marcel Iures, Miguel Sandoval, Sergi Lopez
I think Marcel Iures has a good look to be Pedro Pascal's older brother, is a great actor, and he has a connection to HBO as well. I'm expecting a younger actor for the role though.
Prince Trystane Martell:
Doran's son, Trystane, is the fiance of Princess Myrcella. He is handsome with olive skin and straight black hair. The role is being aged up to 18 years old.
My Suggestions:
None yet.
With the conspicuous omission of Arianne and Quentyn from the new cast leaks Trystane could be made the heir of Sunspear. That would change his character dramatically... Wait and see I guess.
Areo Hotah:
Areo Hotah is the captain of Doran Martell's guards. The show is particularly looking for a black actor to fill the role.
My Suggestions:
Colin Salmon, David Harewood, Eriq Ebouaney, Hugh Quarshie, Isaach De Bankolé, Peter Mensah
The casting news threw me, but I think Eriq Ebouaney and David Harewood both have great looks for the part.
The Sand Snakes, Oberyn Martell’s bastard daughters by different mothers(with ages ranging 18-25):
Obara Sand:
The eldest and most athletic Sand Snake is given to martial pursuits as she considers herself a warrior. Obara is Oberyn's daughter from an Old Town whore. She is a sturdily built woman of swarthy coloring and no particular beauty.
My Suggestions:
Janina Gavankar, Jessica Clark, Lara Rossi, Sabrina Ouazani, Tania Raymonde, Zawe Ashton
I've always had a very difficult time finding the right actress for Obara Sand. I'm very interested to see who they cast!
Nymeria Sand:
Nymeria is elegant, refined, and beautiful. Lady Nym is described as “mixed race,” with her father being the fairer Oberyn and her mother being darker skinned. The second oldest of these Sand Snakes, she’s emotional and very strong. In the book's she is the daughter of a noble woman from Volantis.
My Suggestions:
Antonia Thomas, Georgina Campbell, Hannah John-Kamen, Jessica Clark, Jessica Sula, Karla Crome
I thought they may keep Sarella Sand before Nymeria, but I wonder if they combined the two roles based on the new physical description. I would love to see Hannah John-Kamen or Karla Crome as Nymeria, although Jessica Clark has a very similar look to how I pictured Lady Nym.
Tyene Sand:
The daughter of a Septa and the youngest of the Sand Snakes that we meet, Tyene uses her wits and seductive powers more than physical prowess like her sisters. She is known to be treacherous and just as deadly as the other Sand Snakes, but her weapon is poison.
My Suggestions:
Amaia Salamanca, Ana de Armas, Emily Berrington, Gabriella Wilde, Gemma Ward, Nora Arnezeder
I'm unsure they will cast the blue-eyed blonde in the books, but I always pictured Tyenne something like Aphrodite on Hercules. Gabriella WIlde fits the bill to me.
Varamyr:
Varamyr, better known as Varamyr Sixskins, is a diminutive member of the Wildlings and a skinchanger who controls three wolves, a snow bear, and a shadowcat. He is grey-faced and bald with round shoulders.
My Suggestions:
Dayton Callie, John Kavanagh, Michael Cronin, Ned Dennehy, Peter Firth, Philip Davis
The show is looking to cast a 35-45 year old actor, but I always pictured Varamyr older.
High Sparrow:
The books’ pious head of a religious movement will be appearing in several episodes in season 5. The books describe him as a thin, hard-eyed, grey-haired man with a heavily lined face.
My Suggestions:
Adrian Dunbar, Craig Parkinson, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Richard Bremmer, Russell Kilmister, Stuart Graham
I can think of dozens of actors who could fill the role nicely, but Richard Bremmer and Julian Rhind-Tutt are two of my favorites.
Septa Unella:
The show is looking for a character actress to play the imposing and unrelenting septa who spends a lot of time with a major series character next year. She is described as big boned with callused hands and a scowling homely face.
My Suggestions:
Anna Chancellor, Cara Kelly, Pam Ferris, Paula Malcomson, Siobhan Finneran, Sylvestra Le Touzel
Honestly I never had a good image in my mind for Septa Unella. I think the role will likely go to a less-well-known actress, maybe Sylvestra Le Touzel. She has a great look for the part and who Nina Gold has cast her before.
Maggy the Frog:
A fortune teller in A Feast for Crows, she’ll be in one episode next year.
My Suggestions:
Shohreh Aghdashloo, Miriam Margolyes, Sorcha Cusack
Maggy could be much younger than the actresses I chose if they use a flashback, but I always saw her as older personally.
Lollys Stokeworth:
Lollys is the youngest daughter of Lady Tanda Stokeworth. Described by the books as morbidly obese and is considered simple, placid and dull.
My Suggestions:
None yet.
Yezzan:
Yezzan zo Qaggaz is an extremely wealthy slave trader. In the books he has yellow eyes and is so morbidly obese he can no longer stand. He is obsessed with grotesques and often purchases slaves with physical deformities to add to his "collection".
My Suggestions:
Ian McNeice, Michael Culkin, Mike Verdrengh, Robbie Coltrane, Timothy Spall, Vincent Pastore
I have a suspicion they could go a different direction with Yezzen and cast a more slender actor, but I still pictured larger actors in the role.... I would love to see Verdrengh get the role.
The Waif:
The strange child from the books that Arya encounters will likely be played by an older actress, one in her later teens, and we understand the show is specifically looking for a woman of East Asian descent for the part.
My Suggestions:
Jessica Sula, Karla Crome, Rila Fukushima, Sophie Ellis
This is another role I pictured quite differently than they are casting it. I just don't have much knowledge of young Asian actresses.
According to WiC sources there are two more roles being cast as well..
Imogen: A 12 year old blonde girl. It’s speculated that this may actually be the casting call for young Cersei. Given that there is no Imogen in the books, and we’ve heard that Game of Thrones is auditioning girls for the role of young Cersei, this seems likely.
Brunette girl: 12 years old. There’s no additional information about this part. For book-related possibilities, our best guess with regards to the role is probably Melara, a girl involved in young Cersei’s story with the fortuneteller Maggy the Frog.
With the inclusion of Maggy the Frog some think the young actresses could be used in flashbacks or visions... I think that could be the case, although I know at one point D&D were attempting to keep flashbacks out of the series.
Notes:
- Most of the art used comes from Fantasy Flight's Game of Thrones: The Card Game. Credit to all original artists for their great work.
- Thanks to WinterisComing.net for gathering the rumors and news!
Seems like the makings of a amazing season.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see Varamyr played by Scott ( Hershel Greene ) Wilson of "The Walking Dead".
More than any season before I'm really looking forward to casting news!
ReplyDeleteNot just because of the tweaks to the book characters, but because the new characters being cast could reveal bits and pieces of D&D's plans for Season 5 and beyond....The end of this next season should bring us to the end of the currently released books. So many cuts will be needed and some could hint at which book arcs are important and which are red herrings. Then of course some arcs could actually go beyond the books this year as well!
It's also possible D&D are preparing their own endgame that may vary from GRRM's endgame for the books. Some people look at this as fan-fiction and bad thing, but personally I think it is almost a necessity and frankly unavoidable with the 7 season restrictions they have put on themselves. I think I may actually prefer a unique TV series ending in the end since it would not necessarily spoil the books.
*Shrug*
Unlike many, I always liked the Dornish chapters a lot and expected the Dronish characters to play a major role in the last 2 or 3 books. The absence of Greyjoy news makes me wonder how important they truly are. I felt that at times they were like delivery vehicles bringing important things to Dany more than important characters themselves. If they are omitted would it support that feeling? I am not a believer in the theory that Daario = Euron, but he has already supplied a fleet of 93 ships to Dany....If the books use Daario to replace one of both of the Greyjoy uncles it could be interesting even if not book foreshadowing. I won't even get into the lack of news concerning Young Griff just yet....
I'm actually quite interested in all the productions rumors I've heard so far and how they are quite different than the books!
- Some of Arianne Martell's traits being transferred to Ellaria Sand and Trystane Martell.....- Trystane Martell in on the Queenmaker plot...
- Jaime Lannister in Dorne along with Bronn...
Amazing post as usual Darq! Looking forward to finding out who officially plays who.
ReplyDeleteSo...no news about the ironborn? Not that I love their story, but I think it will seem a bit strange if we don´t see them at all.
ReplyDeleteNone that I have seen, but that means little of course.
ReplyDeleteIf they are filming those parts later in their production season news might leak out later than the early film sites...
I am wondering though...
- We did not see anything about Balon Greyjoy...
- Daario delivered a fleet of 93 ships to Dany
(Same number Victarion started off with as I recall).
Of course we have not gotten any news on Young Griff yet as well....
I know it is impossible, but if they could nab Demian Bichir as Doran Martell that would be great!
ReplyDeleteI'd like that too, but ya... I left him off since I thought it was very unlikely.
ReplyDeleteAnother actor I thought of but forgot to put in is Joaquim de Almeida!
I may replace one of the actors I used with him later....
I'm going to read back over this after I post, but I just wanted to say, "Hi!" and tell you HOW glad I am that you're doing this again! XD
ReplyDeleteThe latest thing I'm really irked about is the recasting of Myrcella! I love the actress that played her and feel the rumored recast doesn't really look "older" to me, so I'm not sure what the point is then??
The rumor is that they re-auditioned the role and the original actress just did not do as well as they wanted or the new actress brought something they liked more. So they went with the new actress.
ReplyDeleteSad though since Aimee had been such a brilliant ambassador for the show!
Many interesting and unique new characters to look forward to this season. Will be interesting.
ReplyDeleteIt seems they are cutting the Greyjoys, it would have been interesting to see Euron and Victarion on the show...
ReplyDeleteNice. I'm glad you posted this. Much obliged. Do you think other characters that weren't leaked won't make the cut? I guess the show from this point forward will be pretty unpredictable as far as which characters do and don;t make it. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteI don't think the Greyjoys will be cut; although, it's possible to combine maybe two of them. If they don't appear this season then I say they will early next season. Regardless, Balon will die this coming season; beginning or end I'm not sure it depends on when they cast his brothers. Overall, I feel like the Greyjoys will be somewhat essential to the book plot. Everyone just assumes they won't, but when has GRRM been known to be predictable? It's possible Euron could be the most serious threat to Stannis, Dany, and Griff in the absence of Tywin and depending on what happens to the Boltons. I doubt the show would keep showing Yara for one ep a season unless they were going to use her more in the future. That leech was also thrown into the fire. It's only a matter of time before the Greyjoys pop up in some form or another
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome!
ReplyDeleteI would not be surprised if we get more new characters.... Maybe even one or two roles that are fairly big. Some roles will be cast for just an episode or two to fill out scenes. Of course I wonder about Arianne Martell and the Greyjoy uncles like most people. Also Young Griff and Griff too!
The thing I have been wondering is do all of these characters have scenes that truly advance the main narrative or are they just fan favorites... If the characters are in the latter category I think they are more likely to be cut. Even if they are in the first category they could still be cut if their tasks can easily be transferred to another character to streamline things.
I think the Greyjoys could be cut for the reasons I listed....
If Euron's and Victarion's only important aspects are supplying Dany a fleet and a dragon horn they can easily be cut or merged into some different character. Maybe Daario...
If Griff is an impostor they could cut that entire arc to streamline things.
It's so hard for me to anticipate who will be cut since I do not know what happens in the last 2 books or what endgame D&D have in the works! I hope more characters and more sub-plots make the series, but some time last year I came to accept that if D&D want to finish in seven season they only have 3 years to work through the material of 4 most likely very large books!
I'm not so sure they will change the ending. HBO did pay for the story and GRRM was well compensated for it, so I think they will use the ending they payed for. It's not HBO's fault GRRM can't keep up. It will be very interesting to see how it plays out though.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the Greyjoys: I'm pretty confident they will pop up at some point and in some form or another. If they don't make it this season then season 6 isn't out of the realm of possibility. I don't think they are just characters used to bring Dany a fleet and horn, which many have speculated. When has GRRM known to be predictable? I feel like Euron could be the new "bad guy" and most serious threat to Stannis, Dany, or Griff since Tywin. We will also have to see what happens to the Boltons of course. I believe he has something up his sleeve. Vic I'm not so sure about but I don't think he will just die, again that seems too predictable. Aeron who the heck knows. When it comes to them making the show I think that Aeron is most likely to be cut or combined with Vic. Balon's leech was thrown into the fire so his death is coming. Yara keeps popping up in seasons and I feel they wouldn't do this unless she had some larger part to come. As far as Dany having the 93 ships...this could be seen as a bad sign for Vic, but there are alternatives. The Sons of the Harpy could destroy some of them next season, Or perhaps they are setting up for a large naval battle at some point in the show. They could up Vic's ship count and make him seem more formidable since he will be a relatively new character. It should also be said that in the book Vic started out with 93 but is now down to 61 ( not sure if that means anything). Could just be wishful thinking lol.
Griff I'm not sure, but I think he is esential enough to include. I mean he could be legit. We should also keep in mind that while the plan is still seven seasons, 8 is not completely out of the question. HBO and Martin want it, and depending how soon TWOW comes out D&D may realize they need another season.
Lastly, I just wanted to ask about Arianne. You've heard from good sources that Trystane will be in the Queenmake plot? Don't mean to question your sources I just wasn't sure if this was an internet rumor or if you've heard it from someone reliable.
Valar Dohaeris. Can't wait for some casting news!
Just saw this lol, I replied to your other post
ReplyDeleteI also wonder about which characters from previous seasons that we haven't seen in a while will come back. Kevan&Lancel Lanninster, Brotherhood, Blackfish&Edmure, Greatjon( apparently where Rickon went and Bryan Cogman confimred he was alive and in the Riverlands on twitter), Rickon&Osha, any Freys, Ilyn Payne(Tywin name dropped him in the finale). We already have seen that Jaquen will likely be back so I'm hoping for some of these others.
ReplyDeleteWhere the hell is Benjen Stark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
I've seen audition videos for a handful of Dornish characters (Nymeria, Obara, Trystane, Quentyn) and as far as I could tell, Arianne was not in any of the audition dialog. I cannot be sure though since most of them do not use names and I have to guess who the main person is talking to.
ReplyDeleteThe Obara audition had a moment where one "off screen" part could be Arianne, but most think it was Ellaria. I have a few of the audition videos on my old PC that died 2 weekends ago. I did not recover the files, but maybe I will look for them this week sometime.... I've seen audition transcripts on a few sites so you should be able to find them online.
That said, I would like to think Arianne will be in the show...Just like I want to believe the Greyjoys will be in as well!
I wonder about Kevan and Lancel as well, but I have not heard anything....
ReplyDeleteI honestly have no clue about the Freys, the BWOB or Edmure and the Blackfish. One of the audition videos notes that Jaime is in Dorne... If that is true, he may or may not be in the Riverlands and Vale. D&D did joke about Jaime getting his jetpack ready, so maybe he will be in Dorne and the Riverlands? XD
Ilyn Payne will not return though.
Sadly, the actor was diagnosed with cancer beginning of last year.
I think Rickon and Osha could be gone...
I'm not sure either is that important in the endgame to bring them back. Just a guess.
There was a rumor that Sandor will return though!
No details, but a few open ended statements....
So many readers wanted Coldhands to be Benjen! XD
Me too for a bit... I think we have seen the last of him, but one never knows with GRRM.
I am just not sure.... I lean to thinking they are cut if I am honest.
ReplyDeleteEven if they play a huge role in the last 2 books (which I'm not sold on), that does not mean they will make the TV series....
There are only 30 episode left of Game of Thrones and in many arcs we know what most of next year will be... If we do not see the Greyjoys this year I'm not sure why we would need them the following year. I thought we would see Balon's death last year.... and hope to see it this year, but even if we see it I'm not sure that means we get Euron or Victarion. They just might have Yara take the Seastone Chair....
I hope I'm wrong!
Good job, mate.. It's good to have a place dedicated about GOT and the new casts here..Saves me the trouble of looking for them my self xD. I had seen this last year as well, but I was only lurking. Unfortunately for you all now I am more active.. I should read this extensively, but for now just a question. No word yet about Wyman Manderly, right? Didn't notice anything from a quick scroll.. I am eager for his character to be included next year. A few months ago I didn't think it was likely but since things are moving a bit faster it seems very probable.. I need the mountain clans as well. Hugo Wull in particular. Stannis and Davos cannot stay at the wall for a whole season.
ReplyDeleteI suspect that there's a certain amount of juggling going on behind the scenes based on the material they have available to work with and the pace of GRRM's production. While D&D have been told how the arcs of each character wrap up in the end, the details don't exist yet. There's enough interesting material left that they could stretch it out for awhile and while the 7 season cutoff is ideal, that could be up for debate as well. Four 10 episode seasons have so far left the fan base significantly hungry for more, and there's never been any talk of staleness or fatigue much less any drop off in ratings and viewership. Martin has called for both longer seasons or a season of prequel story, but that's both predictable stalling and an understandable writer's reaction to seeing things hit the cutting room floor.
ReplyDeleteSo, I'd say the show (beyond the first eight or so episodes of Season 5) is probably held up at the crossroads of the streamlined highway the showrunners might prefer, and more scenic but slower country road of telling more story and staying behind the books for seven seasons with two or three more to follow. Both have their downsides:
1- If they charge ahead at their current rate, they're one season away from passing the books, then its uncharted territory, though book and show end up about the same place. With the Gordian Knot of plotlines GRRM has going, this could totally turn a rich story into a powerpoint presentation in the last two seasons, and that would suck. Plus, in hindsight, a lot of loose ends are out there won't make sense without the books- like the Berric Dondarrion parts, what happened to Edmure/Brynden and the Freys, and lots more. Its too late to do that right, which would have involved rewriting big chunks from the very beginning like maybe leaving out the Stannis plotline completely, or the Dothraki leg of Dany's story and have a series "based" on ASOIAF rather than its television version. If they pull out the heavy hatchet now, there's a great chance they botch the operation.
2- The scenic route will please the book fans, but runs the serious risk of overstaying its welcome- as unlikely as that seems now. Running up to 10 seasons and you're going to have a dip and lag somewhere, even though you'd be doing greater justice to the story. The other danger here, in trying to capture as much as possible while giving GRRM a chance to do his thing, is a common problem with GRRM's style. He says its three books, then four, now seven, and having read them and knowing that two more wrap up the story- I still have real trouble seeing the finish line from where we are now. Martin, in the most recent interviews about WoW, has started using phrases like "for most of the book" which is encouraging in regards to a release date, but he's a bit of a rambler. If ASOIAF finishes up in two more books, they're bound to be 1400 page cinderblocks. If the show takes some extra time in anticipation of getting the actual story instead of creating the gap between here and the end, they'll be in trouble when season 9 wraps and there's 40 episodes of story left just to get the gist of everything. It'd rather not have to call my first grader to discuss the series finale because she's away at college then.
FINALLY!!
ReplyDeleteSome casting rumors!
I was expecting the show to cast more Latino actors and actressses going by things I had read, but maybe that was just for Doran and Trystane...
Keisha Castle-Hughes has a nice look for Obara I think.. I can see her in the role!
Sad about Ilyn, I just looked it up and he's doing a lot better which is good news.
ReplyDeleteI know David Bradley will be back at some point but not sure when. I'd like to think BWOB will return. Maybe the Blackfish could take LS role depending on how that goes? No idea if we will ever see Edmure again.
Rickon and Osha going to the Umbers couldve been a way to write them off the show. I've been thinking lately though, do you think it's possible the Umbers could replace the Manderlys and help Stannis?
I'm glad about Sandor, I presume he will be facing the Mountain at the end of this season or maybe early next one.
Good news on Wilko!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't heard anything...
I think Blackfish could take on LS's part or maybe Beric or Thoros as well..
I just have no clue about Rickon and the Umbers... To me it felt like GRRM almost wished he never introduced Rickon and wrote him out of the books by sending him to Skagos! XD
You're idea about House Umber replacing House Manderly is something I hadn't thought of... Interesting. I guess it's possible, but the show did introduce Wendell Manderly at the Red Wedding. For whatever that's worth... Not sure how many viewers even caught his name or would make a connection more than a season later...
I wonder how much of White Harbor or The Citadel we wil lsee... I would like to think we will get a look at both, but I am hesitant to speculate too far into the future of the tV series since I think the final 2 years will be very different than the books. Season 5 will be a good sign of what is to come. If we do not get Aegon, Arianne, Euron, or Victarion we can better anticipate how big the changes will be. If one or more of those roles is cast, then maybe it will be closer to the books that I think.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for doing this again!!! :)
ReplyDeleteArianne was such a huge part of the books, I'd be very surprised if they cut her. Unless they will be putting Myrcella's fate in her own hands (or one of the other sand snakes) and possibly combining Trystane with Arys or Darkstar...
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone will be facing The Mountain again...
ReplyDeleteI am thinking Rickon will rally the Skaggs into helping with the White Walker threat.
ReplyDeleteI still hope Arianne makes it to the series!
ReplyDeleteIn the auditions it sound like Trystane is involved in the Queenmaker plot. It sounds like he is maneuvering Myrcella or trying...Somewhat like Arianne does in the books.
One of the other auditions suggest that Jaime and Bronn will go to Dorne. Bronn is being seduced by and possibly poisoned by Tyene in the Tyene audition... Jaime is mentioned as having snuck in at the docks or something like that.. Some think it is a plot to kidnap Myrcella and take her home.
Interesting idea...
ReplyDeleteI think I've read a theory about them rallying the mountain clans, but forgot about it. That would certainly bring him back into the game...
Lets pray to the Seven we get those characters. Or Lord of Light, whichever you believe in.
ReplyDeleteSorry I should've said Robert Strong
ReplyDeleteWas yesterday totally surprised to see Paul Kaye in the Bonus Material of Spaced. Didn't recognize him playing an art performer besides "Vulva" (ex art-partner of Brian). That reminded me of Game of Thrones big casting video for Season 3, which aired at the SDCC Panel two years ago. And that now we are again at the time of the year for casting speculation and announcements.
ReplyDeleteThanks DarqueMode for keeping us up-to-date again.
Holy shit(am I allowed to say that?)...If they show the Tower of Joy scene I will forgive any mistakes I feel they have made so far.
ReplyDeleteSo i'm assuming that in the books Sean Bean was at or in the Tower of Joy? So i might get to see him again?Oh i hope that is what your saying....
ReplyDeleteWithout giving too much away...

*Spoilers below*
Bran has had visions up til now, but he will be comign into stronger powers, one of which will be seeing past events.
The Tower of Joy if the place where Rhaegar Targaryen (Heir to the Iron Throne and Dany's oldest brother) and Lyana Stark (Catelyn's sister) used to rendezvous before both were killed. The mysterious events that transpired there at the end of Robert's Rebellion are key to the saga. Many fan theories are centered on events at the tower and if they do show a flashback to THE EVENT it would be a major spoiler to the books. The books still have not revealed exactly what happened there.
It would be awesome to see on screen!
ReplyDeleteOf course the tower could be some other random tower and nothing so special! XD
Shhhh...I want to believe!
ReplyDeleteYou're probably right though. It could be any tower, especially after CGI.
Ha!
ReplyDeleteI know right?
One other somewhat fun - but not nearly as exciting - idea is that it could be used for a tower on Pyke... with a bridge someone may fall off from. XD
Thanks for giving me an idea of what it means without actually spoiling anything! I can't imagine them giving away something that isn't known to the book readers yet.
ReplyDeleteThey have already given some things away...
ReplyDeleteSome arcs have already used all the material from the 5 released books. By the end of Season 5 they will have gone as far (or farther) than the 5 books in print.
This is the season some fans have dreaded since the timing of the show and GRRM's book releases just do not add up. We could even see Season 6 before the new book comes out and that would mean an entire season of Game of Thrones based on unreleased material! XD
Ya,i remember when HBO announced GoT was renewed for another 2 seasons. Everyone was talking about GRRM's 6th book not even being finished so how could what could they possibly use as material. Interesting to say the least and maybe GRRM will surprise everyone and will have the book published before long?
ReplyDeleteWe can dream! XD
ReplyDeleteNo real solid news on how far along he is... Some people have guessed late 2014 and others late 2015... Since no one really knows we just have to wait.... and wait.... and wait.
Do you mean Jon Snow? I know people have speculated that Jon Snow is Layana's son and when she died Ned took him..
ReplyDeleteSorry LJ, I'm stopping before I get crucified! XD
ReplyDeleteLoL! We wouldn't want that now! ;)
ReplyDeleteNo, it would be like Ned Stark all over again! :p
ReplyDeleteTania Raymonde, please!
ReplyDeletenever mind- wrong post
ReplyDeleteHey Darque! Just wondering if you have heard any casting news on Penny?
ReplyDeleteI have not.
ReplyDeleteHonestly I have no idea what they will do with Tyrion's arc in Season 5. No news about Griff and Young Griff, no news on Brown Ben, no news on Victarion or Moqorro... It leaves it all up in the air.
My personal guess is that we will not get her though...
I don't think we will get much of a ship voyage and that cuts half her scenes. Then add on the fact we lost all her backstory since she was not at the Purple Wedding.... It leaves little of her book material...
Hopefully Comic-Con provides some insight into new cast or production etc!
Thanks for staying vigilant. :)
ReplyDeleteHope we get Sand Snakes casting at Comic Con.
ReplyDeleteNo news on roles outside the original leaked list... So I am assuming no Arianne, no Quentyn and I wonder about the Greyjoys and Griff
ReplyDeleteAt least a few. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think about the casting? Siddig and Pryce are awesome.
ReplyDeleteI'm actually okay with Arianne being cut at this point as long as they can still make the Dorne plot work somehow. I don't know how I will feel if the Greyjoys are cut because that will be removing an entire plot compared to just a big character in Dorne.
Agreed on Siddig and Pryce!
ReplyDeleteI always thought Siddig could make a nice Doran. Not how I saw him, but he will do wonderfully. Pryce was someone I hoped would be the Kindly Man actually! Now knowing that role is all but cut I am happy to see him sign on as the High Sparrow!
I am happy the Sand Snakes all have unique and very different looks from one another. Yes, they are different than the books, but I think it is more important that they are noticeably from different mothers than that they match their book descriptions perfectly.
I'm not too familiar with the rest honestly. I have seen Enzo Calenti in Rome, but I do not recall his role honestly. Same with Jessica Henwick who I saw in SIlk a little. I do not watch the series but I download it for my mom and I have watched an episode here and there.
I honestly never thought the Greyjoys were very important like many people. I can see them cut very easily. That said, I wouldn't mind seeing them on screen!
Now.... Griff and Young Griff I would miss!
I think cutting that whole arc makes some sense, but I would miss the characters and a lot of the nuance and sub-plots that come with Griff and Young Griff.
Agree on the Sand Snakes. I also haven't seen any of the actors aside from Pryce and Siddig ( love Pirates and Star Trek), but the show has yet to disappoint in that department.
ReplyDeleteIf Griff and Young Griff are cut what the hell is Tyrion going to do most of next season? I guess they could just have Varys back Dany.
I think that is exactly what he will do.
ReplyDeleteI expect Varys to be with Tyrion beyond Illyrio's Mance unlike the books.
They could have them split up at some point or have a mercenary group capture them I guess. Maybe instead of having sellsword company capture Tyrtion, Dany could have Daario patrolling outside of Meereen and capture him , then bring him to Meereen.
Either of those arcs would easily be 3 or 4 episodes of screen time. That is really all they need since I expect an episode or two going to or staying at Illryio's mance and then an episode or two of Tyrion in Meereen.
I would LOVE it if they shock us all and introduce Strong Belwas!
They could have him as part of Tryion's entourage or the mercenary company. He could then arrive in Meereen to fight in the pits!
I'm guessing since Yezzan was cast that he will have a run in with Tyrion, Jorah, and now Varys I guess. It will be interesting to see how they get there though. Didn't Daario get sent to Yunkai? Maybe he will end up recognizing Jorah and bringing them to Mereen. They could introduce Belwas as a slave of Yezzan. I feel like Varys being captured is kind of out of character for him though.
ReplyDeleteBack to Griff and Young Griff though, the Golden Company did get a few name drops last season. I kind of assumed that they were the ones riding with Stannis north of the Wall. Wasn't it Davos's idea to hire them with money from the Iron Bank? If that is the case it would seem that Griff and Young Griff are probably goners. I could see them speeding up Stannis's story by using the Golden Company instead of every northern house except maybe the Umbers.
I think he was sent to Yunkai...
ReplyDeleteTyrion could be captured there I guess...
Wherever he is captured he will end up in Yezzan's grotesque menagerie though like you said. Well, they may just make Yezzzan a more typical slaver with no oddities....
I forgot about Jorah for a bit.. Oops! XD
I think he could meet up with Tyrion, maybe as a guide if Jorah is at Illryio's. I doubt he would be sent to Meereen himself though since Dany exiled him. Who knows..
Jorah could more easily be part of the mercenary group that captures Tyrion though. He could recognize Tyrion and his value and try to bring him to Dany as an attempt to make amends maybe...Then get captured?
I have been thinking since Daario brought Dany a fleet of 93 ships that the Greyjoys are all cut, and now seeing Trystane as the heir to Dorne makes me realize Arianne and Quentyn are cut. I still have some hope for Young Griff and company, but it is growing slimmer by the day!
I haven't had any ideas about Stannis arc honestly.
I have no clue what they will do in the North in general! XD
I want the Manderlys and the Citadel, but I have no idea what path D&D will take at this point....
"I forgot about Jorah for a bit.. Oops! XDI think he could meet up with Tyrion, maybe as a guide if Jorah is at Illryio's. I doubt he would be sent to Meereen himself though since Dany exiled him. Who knows.."
ReplyDeleteThat's why I was hoping for Penny (and Griff and young Griff) anyways, because I wouldn't skip over that great pairing! I just so wanted to see 'the Bear and The Maiden Fair' routine! XD
It's nice to get some news, but nothing yet that interests me. Kinda hope your presumption about the TOJ turns out true. It would be awesome. What would be the point though for Bran to find out so soon? It doesn't really do anything for the story in terms . IThat pic in particular looks a lot like the art-work they use on the wiki, but tbh, I don't think is very plausible. Without the next book it would too revealing. Many people haven't got a clue yet about R+L=J even with having read the books. The clues are all there if you care to find them, though it's easy to miss it as well.
ReplyDeleteI think it may be too early for a R+L=J reveal as well, but that tower does look like the TOJ quite a bit!
ReplyDeleteI am not reading much into D&D cuts... if they do cut roles like Arianne, the Gryejoy uncles, Young Griff etc...
I think those roles can still play a fairly significant role in the books and be completely written out of the series. Two different mediums... with much different paths taken to the endgame of the series. That's okay with me. Hell, maybe it is preferred!
I read on Twitter a bit ago GRRM's editor told people TWOW will most likely NOT be released by or in 2015!
Eeeek!
Am I the only one that thinks Howland Reed will reveal Jon's mother?
ReplyDeleteI doubt it...
ReplyDeleteI've wondered if he will do that in the books for a good while. That and I wondered if maybe he told Jojen or Meera as well.
Until ADWD I never really considered the reveal would come from a Weirwood vision, but as long as the reveal comes I will be happy.
I never really considered it in a vision either, maybe a vision of Reed and Ned discussing it or something similar. Idk though, I think it's a great way to introduce Reed as I'm sure he's bound to show up at some point. I don't really know what Bran seeing the vision would do as he will be the only one to know; he'd have to travel back and find Jon.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing...
ReplyDeleteA vision is good to let the readers or viewers know, but it does not let Jon know..
Just brainstorming here... Not really thinking these will happen...
- I guess it could be one of those things that the viewers are let in on before the character himself. I don't like that idea though.
- If Bran is the first to know he could use Weirwood trees to inform basically anyone I guess.
- Bran warging into something or someone if the assumption that Bloodraven can control animals from a distance is true.
I would prefer we meet Holland at some point though!
I'm happy with the casting choices, with the exception of possibly Yezzan since the actor is a far cry from the book character. I'm also sad to see Myrcella recast, but it's tough to hang on to people for years on end. Extremely looking forward to Cercei getting her just desserts....
ReplyDeleteBut... but the dragon has 3 heads.
ReplyDeleteYeah they went a completely different route with Yezzan...
ReplyDeleteWell, for that matter they went completely different routes with Tyene, Nymeria, Areo Hotah, and Yezzan! XD
Good points. One idea I like is that if Stannis gets past the Boltons and continues south it is possible he will run into Reed. Depending on where/what is going on with Jon at that time it would be interesting to have Jon or Stannis find out especially if they are together. This could also happen via Bran's warging abilities.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about the news reaching Stannis too..
ReplyDeleteOh well...
Still so much story to tell! I don't like to speculate about every aspect of the books.... Well, not a much as I like speculating about the adaptation of the books to the series.
That is true. But it doesn't mean Aegon (or whatever his real name is) must be the one. Bran may well be the most powerful person in Westeros (the winged wolf), so who know if it is possible for him to warg into a dragon.
ReplyDeleteAnd besides, I like the theory that the 3 headed dragon is just one person with 3 different id's. Just like most likely AA/TPTWP and the last hero is about one person, but different cultural interpretations.
I'm not ruling anything out though. I am rooting for Jon however, and if Aegon is a blackfyre like many of us suspect, it only means there's only Jon and Dany left to take up the role. And her is far too obvious since the beginning. I also like to think of it perfectly fits with the fact Rhaegar got it all wrong twice (first he thought himself was tptwp and then his firstborn child), and the fact that it makes more sense for the prophesied hero to be a third child whose mother died during childbirth.
Yes! That one really looks like it. But the tower is on Ireland and from some other pictures I saw, it could easily be about the iron islands and Balon (like you said). But someone has to find out at some point, Bran may as well be the first. No need for Jon to know anything yet. And they may well be preparing the ground for what happens at the end of Dance, If they cover so much material from the book in just one season. I'm too hoping for Howland too finally appear, but I am not too fond of him spilling the beans about what is probably the biggest mystery in the whole ASOIF. I am not even sure Jon would believe him. He may send him to Winterfell and the crypts though which probably have some hidden down there.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about the changes. I shouldn't read much into it. But if they don't include Aegon into the series it can only mean one thing. He is either very important, or not so much. I still believe no matter how much they change certain things, there's only one conclusion to the story. If he was part of the bigger picture, I believe he would be on the show.
That makes sense but it is nonetheless very disappointing. I don't see the series being all done before 2020, but was really hoping to get my hands on WOW as early as possible. The problem is no matter how much time he delay it, at the end it will be rushed in order catch up/make up for/to the the show. Somebody will loose either way, Probably GRRM by spoiling his own work.
I'm happy the Sons of the Harpy will make the series!
ReplyDeleteThe new role of Ship's Captain carrying one regular cast member adds to my feeling we will not get Young Griff on the series. It's still early in production though so anything could happen!
The Brienne news is interesting!
Many of us have wondered what they will do with her this year and this is our first very vague hint!
I'm both excited and dread-filled to see that scene play on screen and expect it to be one of the highlights of the season. Maybe even material for that elusive Emmy nomination or win!
ReplyDeleteSweet, from some interviews before or during Season 4 I expected that scene to happen this year. Although there still have has to be some stuff done until it ends in "that" scene.
ReplyDeleteSo they are going to be fully caught up in ADWD at least by season's end? I'm pretty excited we will all be venturing into uncharted territory soon!
ReplyDeleteI have no proof of course, but I think if they plan to complete the series in 7 seasons they need to be finished with books 4 and 5 in Season 5 so they can move onto the material from books 6 and 7 the last two years.
ReplyDeleteThis is to good not to post! XD
ReplyDeleteAimee Richardson (the original Myrcella Baratheon) has reacted to being recast for Season 5....
https://vine.co/v/M0LJpJpgQ3I
Αwesome news. Can't wait for that scene and for that evil **** to finally get what's coming to her. I do have my doubts however about how far will they and she go with that scene. I don't think it will be as authentic as in the books.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I just noticed that amid the chaos that's currently takes place on my inbox. Well, he is the only (besides BR) who knows, so it's very logical. But like I said, personally, I don't want him to. I want Jon to find on his own. While he is in a comatose state and gets to experience something similar like it happened with Bran (and Jojen?) and get a visit from BR, whose vision isn't limited to just weirwoods like many people think. He already had a green dream (dragon dream?) about the crypts in Winterfell, so, like so many others I believe that there's something down there that proves where Jon comes from.
ReplyDeleteHowland just showing up out of nowhere and just telling the truth to Jon, isn't that appealing to me. Of course I want the crannogman to finally appear and for Jon to become first a Stark, and then proceed to go on a quest to find out about his origins. BR or the crypts are my preferred choices.
I was looking forward to the Kingsmoot. It was one of the few interesting things to happen in A Feast For Crows.
ReplyDeleteI'm holding on to hope for a Kingsmoot... Even if they cut Vic and Euron!
ReplyDeleteI think Victarion is cut for sure, but Euron has a small chance to appear... maybe.
I'm not sure where D&D will take Yara or where GRRM will take the Greyjoys, but Yara may need something to keep her story in viewers' minds. Becoming ruler and a Kingsmoot could occupy a few episodes maybe....
It's a bit difficult to think of the Kingsmoot held later and without the Greyjoy brothers, but at some point Balon should die (early in Season 5 if Melisandre's leeches are any indication on the show). I'm guessing D&D could then make Yara ruler of the Iron Islands. If the Ironborn don't accept her as their ruler, aren't happy with her results on the mainland, or just the idea of her on the Seastone Chair maybe they would want to hold a Kingsmoot?
Probably just wishful thinking on my part! XD
Thanks for all the updates Darque! It probably is Tyrion (and maybe The Bear too) on the ship, but I do hope Young Griff makes an appearance just because it makes another good threat to Dany! XD -I'm also glad the SOTH made it! I agree it's the better part of that story! Also excited to see Jaime and Brienne together, but I suspect it could be brief moment or a hit and miss kind of thing like with Bran and Jon!
ReplyDeleteI agree it probably is not Young Griff and company, but I want to see them on screen! Honestly I think many, many arcs people want to see will be cut this year. Ten episodes is just such a short amount of screen time to get through two large books. even if I can accept it it makes me a little sad at times...
ReplyDeleteI think Jaime and Brienne will link up at the end of the season. Just a gut feeling more than insider info.Plus if one fan theory holds true Jaime and Brienne could be inextricably linked and need to connect at some point.
I would want Yara/Asha to sit on the Seastone Chair and rule the Iron Islands. You know, girl power and all that...
ReplyDeleteSo fun to hear about the scenes being created for the series!
ReplyDeleteThe changes may annoy some, but I am finding myself more and more excited to see the new scenes and explore a different take on the story.
Could this be the bridge on the river where the men with grayscale are? (The river images, not Meereen) The bridge of dreams?
ReplyDeletehttp://watchersonthewall.com/split-pillars-confirmed-meereen-game-of-thrones-filming-continues-toome-today/#more-2635
Sorry, I've been lazy and not posting updates lately. I keep planning to and things come up...
ReplyDeleteIt could indeed!
It could be the Royne for sure... especially if Tyrion or Jorah is in the boat like some think they see. I cannot make anyone out for sure though.... If it is Tyrion and Jorah in the boat we can definitively write off the Griffs I think!
Maybe I will do a post with new pics and speculation tomorrow or Tuesday. there has been a lot of story information gleaned from the recent pics like Arya's TWOW Mercy chapter making it into Season 5 and Mace Tyrell replacing Harys Swift as Master of Coin etc
Demian Bichir, great choice!!!! Maybe his brother Bruno Bichir could be added to the cast too, in some way.
ReplyDeletewatch Episode 1 Season 5 Game of Thrones on April 12, 2015. The episode 1 is entitled “The wars to come” and will be premiered on Sunday.
