True Blood alum Lucy Griffiths has exited the network's adaptation of Hellblazer after the show's creators opted to move in a different direction, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Griffiths played Liv, the female lead and an offbeat woman who finds herself teamed with Constantine after she is marked for death by a powerful demon. With the ability to see the supernatural world among us, she becomes a key player in the battle between good and evil. NBC will not recast the role but instead add the character of Zed, a familiar name from the Constantine books. That character, a foil for the show's title character who becomes his right-hand woman, has not yet been cast. She will appear in an early episode of the series, with additional characters from Hellblazer and the occult DC universe to be introudced later. Zed will, however, be the first to appear.

ReplyDeleteWell, there goes half the reason I was going to watch this show. Without her, Constantine will have to be twice as good for me to add this to my fall television queue.

ReplyDeleteThis is a strange decision and I personally liked her character in the pilot. I mean this decision could be a good or bad thing. I guess we will just have to wait and see how it plays out on screen when the episodes air. Hopefully the new character will be a better replacement.
ReplyDeleteI really, really hope that this means she is written out in episode two or something, and doesn't just vanish with no explanation, like that woman from the pilot of Believe.
ReplyDeletebut whatever character finally stays should have been introduced from the pilot, now they'll introduce Lucy's character and have people like her just to be suddenly replaced in the next episode, it's just a really bad move.

ReplyDeleteThis article says that the new female lead will show up in an early episode so it's not like they're re-doing the pilot. Does anyone know if Constantine has filmed other episodes besides the pilot? Because if they have then I could see them maybe killing off Liv or having her leave Constantine early on or something like that. But to have her in the pilot and then all of a sudden she's gone...that doesn't make sense. So does anyone know if they've filmed any more episodes past the pilot?

ReplyDeleteoh damn.. I know her from true blood (which I watch for some inexplicable reason), and I really liked her. No idea she was on it but it I was bound to find out at some point. There goes a very good reason for watching this series, which I know from the movie/game..
ReplyDeleteif she was already a bif part on the pilot and was the female lead, that's kind of not good for the show but maybe they didnt like where they were going with her character, they should've kept her and then kille her to leave a cliffhanger for the show

ReplyDeleteTerrible pilot anyway, big fan of Constantine, Hellblazer and Justice League Dark-comics, but this show is to whack in the pilot. Only decent thing was the direction, and that the actors for Constantine looked right for the part.

ReplyDeleteWasn't a real big fan of the character, I feel like they tried too hard to get someone that looked like the gal from the movie. - couldn't really get behind her story. Not sure how they're gonna explain this one away though!
ReplyDeleteFor me this was a great pilot with so much potential and one of the only things I did not like about it was Liv character(I like Lucy). It had nothing to do with the comic and she too much of a damsel in distress. Zed is a better option, can't wait to watch episode 2.
ReplyDeleteI actually liked the pilot quite a lot, well acted, intriguing and I loved the direction.
ReplyDeleteintriguing. For me Liv was the odd person out and her ability of 'seeing things' seemed too reminescent of the awful movie. Zed on the other hand (and probably the story of Nergal and his army ) is straight out of the first couple of issues of the comic. I was unconvinced after seeing the pilot, but now that they're sticking even closer to the source material my interest in the show has increased.

ReplyDeleteI have no idea why they're switching directions, unless they find her role too cliche' or predicable? Maybe they just wanted a stronger "bad ass" type of female lead???
But I do know Zed and the army story line is one of the first stories the comics gets into, so maybe they think it's better to be closer to the source material.You know, besides the anti-smoking debacle...
