Beauty and the Beast - 2.21 - Operation Fake Date - Review: "The Nuclear Option."

Hey Beasties! Sorry the review is late, AGAIN. But if I’m going to be honest, I struggled with this episode and didn't really know what to make of it, let alone how to write about it. I've seen even the most veteran of reviewers kind of adjust the format for this particular episode. But without further ado let’s dish about Beauty and the Beast episode 2x21: Operation Fake Date. This episode was definitely a whirlwind. A lot of the things that needed to happen happened and a lot of things that didn’t need to happen happened as well (cough *that date with Gabe* cough). This episode was cute, funny and very frenetic but a little nonsensical. I liked this episode but I didn’t love this episode and it definitely wasn't what I was expecting and I will get into that in just a bit.

If I had to sum up the events in this episode briefly I guess it would go a little something like this: A deeply deluded Gabe tried to win Cat back while also nearly exposing the existence of beasts to Cat’s old high school friend turned reporter, Beth. Heather was planning her bachelorette party and hiding her post traumatic stress in true Heather fashion – avoidance. Meanwhile Cat and Vincent continued their quest in getting Vincent exonerated and finally succeeded. Also, some mysterious G-Men came into play and managed to take a sample of Vincent’s blood.

So this week’s episode saw Sherri Cooper and Jennifer Levin return to their writing duties and I have to say I was shocked to discover that they were the ones who wrote this episode. It didn’t have any of their usual hallmarks, AT ALL. The structure definitely deviated from their norm as I found the dialog for the most part to be very bland and unmemorable. The episode’s pacing was a little wonky as well. Also, JT and Tess also seemed to be very out of character to me. This episode was should have been a little darker in tone overall and not just in some spots. This just didn’t seem like a penultimate episode until the last five minutes and Sherry and Jenny are just so much better than usually. This episode felt just felt thrown together and a little disjointed and edging towards unbelievable at times.

Fred Gerber returned to the director’s chair this week and I was shocked again that this was his handiwork. I’ll chalk it up to the fact that a lot of scenes were trying to cram way too much into them whether it was intentional or not I do not know. But what I do know is that this episode felt crowded and cramped on so many levels and visual was the one that annoyed me the most. I will say that Mr. Gerber pulled out some fine, subtle and nuanced performances from all the actors.

The most aggravating theme of all that this show loves to explore reared its ugly head with a vengeance in this episode, the men in Cat’s life and their weird obsession with being her knight in shining armor. I also noticed that themes of fate, destiny and a fear of repeating the past. Which I find odd seeing as how the powers that be are trying so hard to recapture the first season’s vibe after deciding the show needed to be a soft reboot and the beginning of this season which started out fine and turned into a hot mess (but that’s none of my business, though).

This week’s episode opened with something that I wasn’t expecting, comedy. I mean come on, Vincent in that awful mustache that really didn’t disguise him very well and Cat with her blonde wig was hilarious. As was Vincent’s brutish manhandling of the baby carriage. Right down to Agent Knox’s comments about how Cat and Vincent were being so good at following protocol all the sudden. Luckily for them (and us) he comes bearing good news, the murder charges are getting dropped and all Vincent has to do is turn himself in. Well, that seems like a pretty simple task. But it’s Beauty and the Beast and things are NEVER ever that simple or easy.

We left that scene to abruptly cut to a scene that featured JT and Tess at a place called Lizzy D’s Closet. It turns out the place is a sex shop. JTnT awkwardly banter about bachelorette party staples, just whose responsibility is it to be doing all this stuff for Heather and for good measure JT even managed to bash Heather for not filing charges against Gabe (Oh, don’t worry, I don’t condone that and I have a few words to say about it later). Tess is seemingly frustrated that JT isn’t into any of things in the sex shop but that gets dropped because Tess is being stalked by Cat’s old high school friend, turned reporter, Beth. She’s looking for confirmation about some juicy details that Gabe has told her about Vincent. JT and Tess treat her like she’s crazy and insinuates that Gabe has an agenda but leaves that for Beth to discover for herself.

From there we were treated to a scene at the hostel where Cat and Vincent are staying. Tess once again has to break the bad news to Cat that Gabe has done something that might put a wrench in her plans to get exonerate Vincent. But never fear, Cat always has a plan and it’s usually a plan no one likes. She goes on and on about how she has power over Gabe and that she is sure she can convince him to get Beth to drop the charges. Cue everyone’s groans and eyes both from ¾ of Team Beastie and the audience.

So Cat sashays on over to Gabe’s place where he is so delighted to have Cat around he decides it’s a good idea to start day drinking. He drones on about how everything he has done was to protect Cat. Yes, even getting Heather kidnapped. But Cat’s not there to talk about that. Gabe sees an opening and tries to exploit it. If he gives Cat what she wants then she has to give him something he wants. What does Gabe want? He wants a real chance at winning Cat back.

I seriously puked in my mouth a little bit at that point it wasn’t the last time it happened while I watched this episode. What the F@#%? Are you serious? Gabe must be completely delusional to that he thinks Cat would honestly go for this? This is our evil, genius, master mind villain that we have wasted so much time on? Apparently, the lights are on and nobody’s home at this point but whatever. Cat agrees but knows that hard part wouldn’t be going on the date with Gabe; but getting Vincent to stand down and not freak out.

Vincent reacts (as does JT) as any normal person would to the news. But Cat manages to persuade everyone that it will be just fine. And as it turns out, it was just fine, right down to the perfectly chaste peck on the lips at the end of the night. I should say everything was fine until a cake swapped didn’t go unnoticed and caused Gabe to go back to Cat’s place just in time to overhear her talking about the farce of date she just went on with him.

So the next day, at the press conference where Vincent is turning himself in, Beth asks an inappropriate question that makes her look like she’s off her rocker (and probably got her press pass revoked) about Vincent’s DNA and the FBI’s involvement and cover up. This sets off alarms and with the help of a phone call from Heather, Cat manages to piece together the puzzle of what caused Gabe’s change of heart. In a last ditch effort Vincent spills the beans to Agent Knox about what he is capable of. But it’s too late to back out of the deal; Vincent still has to go jail.

After the fiasco that was the press conference it seems Beth is not pleased with the lack of a reaction from Vincent. Gabe calls her and reassures her that there is more to the story and he has proof that he can show her. But they are interrupted by a phone call from Cat. Beth takes it but not before Gabe tells her that Cat is in love with Vincent.

Meanwhile, Heather is throwing a bachelorette party (even though she has yet to set a wedding date). Cat and Tess invite Beth to it to try and talk her out of writing her story and getting all the information to make an informed choice. We find out that Heather hasn’t told her fiancé that she was kidnapped and she realizes she is suffering from post-traumatic stress. It felt like a big step backwards for Heather by having her deal with her stress in such an old!Heather manner, which of course is avoidance of painful topics.

But it is understandable to a point. But why would you allow someone to roam free after they did that to you? Gabe knows where you live. Gabe has a sick obsession with your sister. If anything I’d be paranoid that he was plotting to do something even worse and would do everything in my power to thwart such a person. But hey everyone handles traumatic events differently. Anywho… by the end of the night Tess and Beth are on more friendly terms and Heather is ready to file charges against Gabe if it comes to that. But not before Agent Knox calls to inform Cat that Vincent is missing.

During that time Vincent gets taken out of his cell by some mysterious G-Men. They say they work for/with Knox but it seems doubtful. But Vincent wanting to be a model prisoner goes with them without a fight.

In a panic Cat rushes over to Gabe’s place to confront him wither her suspicions. What follows in screaming match that turns physical and (nearly) fatal. Gabe lost deep in his delusion keeps insisting that everything he has done was to keep Cat safe and furthermore wants to spare her the same fate her ancestor Rebecca Reynolds had to go through, killing her beast. But Cat finally snaps and unleashes all of her fury and beats Gabe past an inch of his life. She panics and tries to revive him.

But let’s get back to Vincent real quick. Being very suspicious and cautious Vincent feels the government guys out tells him he won’t be doing anything of interest until Agent Knox arrives. Hearing someone approach he asks if it’s him. But surprise, surprise he hears Cat’s voice and freaks out and runs to the other room to reveal Gabe’s place being surveilled. He wonders why but doesn’t get much time to process as hears Cat confirm that these men do not work for Agent Knox. He tries to escape but he gets tranquilized into submission. When he wakes up he has a chat with one of the G-Men and makes them offer to kill Gabe if they let him go. They go for it. And off Vincent goes to finally rid himself of the Gabe only to discover Cat had beaten him to the punchline.

But Cat, of course, begs Vincent to save Gabe. Vincent obliges and manages to revive him through a process right out of Pulp Fiction. Cat is relieved that she didn’t kill him and JT (who stopped by to help but ended up only providing snarky commentary) is mildly annoyed that they let the bad guy live to see another day.

I found the talk about Cat being the one to beast out and Vincent being able to save Cat from herself melancholy and downright odd. I was actually thankful that JT interrupted that painful chat with a phone call from Agent Knox. Agent Knox called to let Cat and Vincent know that exoneration went through but that he wasn’t the one to thank. I’m honestly a little miffed that we didn’t have much of a chance to let the news sink in before SOMETHING else happened.

But inevitably something else does happen. At least the next big threat waited a few beats. JT keeps an eye on Cat as she informs Gabe that he is defeated and that they have won because Vincent’s exoneration went through and Heather is willing to come forward and put him behind bars if he doesn’t stay in his place and out of the hair. And just to add insult to injury Cat said she went on the date looking for the man she once cared about but sorely disappointed to find missing in action. I honestly think that was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

It seems as though we’re wrapping up all the events from this episode in a nice tidy little bow when we see Vincent and Agent Knox finding an empty “lab (?)”. But nope, it’s revealed those so called good guys took a sample of Vincent’s blood.

That little nugget gets swept aside for another time and we head to JT and Tess who are guarding/babysitting Gabe. JT has a goody bag from Lizzy D’s closet because he is bound and determined to prove to Tess (and Cat and Vincent) that he is edgy once and for all. Tess confesses that she was overcompensating and assures JT that they are not sexually mismatched. Which gets them in the mood but they realize that they’re still at Gabe’s place and that he has been taking a super long time in the bathroom.

WELP! When we, the audience get a glimpse at Gabe’s reflection in the mirror we see the oh so familiar yellow glowy eyes staring back at us. Gabe is in the process of becoming a beast once more. Just JT and Tess go to check on Gabe; he beasts out and escapes by jumping through a window and disappearing into the dark and stormy night.

A blissfully unaware Cat and Vincent are back at the hostel and packing up trying to decide whether or not to stay one more night. Cat is reading Rebeca Reynold’s journal and her escapes with her beast Allister. Vincent assures her that that won’t happen to them and initiates a make out session that looked like it was definitely going to lead to something more (but we’ll never know because they faded to black and cut to something else).

The last scene of the night begins with Beth waiting. A calm, cool and collected Gabe shows up. Beth asks about the serum and he admits that he didn’t bring it. Beth thinks the story isn't real and informs Gabe that she won’t be writing the story. Gabe tells her that everything he told her was true and that by morning, everyone will know the truth. Beth is confused. Gabe beasts out and rip’s Beth’s heart out and that’s where we end our episode.

Grade: C+ (Please don’t hate me… but I just couldn’t find this episode as awesome as so many of you did. I try really hard to be the bright spot in Beauty and the Beast reviews but I just couldn't this week.)

Awards

Character of the Night
• Gabe (he took revenge to a whole new level and finally did the thing I’ve been wanting him to do all season long, show his true colors).

Best Character Interactions
• JT and Tess

Most Memorable Moment
• JT threatens Vincent with the tranquilizer gun
• JT snorts at Beth’s “ridiculousness” when she talks about supercharged DNA.

Line of the Night
• Agent Knox: We’re involved because this is a federal case not a plot in a comic book.

Scene of the Night
• Gabe becomes a beast once more/Gabe rips out Beth's heart.

That Awkward Moment
• That awkward moment when you think your significant other is more sexually experienced than you. – What the hell was up with JT this episode? He was extra sensitive and acting really weird. So what if your lady is more adventurous in bed than you, just ask for some lessons and lay back and take it all in, duh.

Miscellaneous

Have You Ever?

Have you ever seen a sex district as cute as this?

Bright Spot: Gabe is once again a beast so surely that means his demise is imminent. Or at the very least we can now shove off into a corner without wasting so much screentime.

Easter Egg Alert
Beyond Anger is a real book.

I Call Shenanigans
Beth didn't have to die. She could have been an awesome asset to Team Beastie. Plus it wouldn’t hurt to add another lovely lady to the cast. Full disclosure: I really like Annie Ilzoneh. Like A LOT.

Fun Fact #1:Public Relations and Event Planning Management are two different things especially in a major city like New York.
Fun Fact #2:Lizzy D’s Closet is unfortunately not a real place in NYC or Toronto.

Style Spotlight – It’s a tie. I really loved Cat’s black and gold dress (despite where it was headed) and Heather looked tastefully stunning in her blue dress with subtle cutouts (which is so on trend it hurts).

  1. Nice review Lilith. I thought this was another awesome episode. VinCat's disguises were hilarious, Vincent reminded me of Super Mario with his mustache. Cat brought out her can of WHOOP ASS on Gabe which was fantastic and well deserved. If they would've let Gabe die, we wouldn't have an intense, nail biting season finale. Vincent's can of WHOOP ASS will definitely put an end to Gabe, I hope once and for all! I know Gabe used the serum he stold from Sam to inject himself so he could turn back into a beast, but something tells me those G-men may have been working with Gabe. They took Vincent's blood, from the looks of the promo for the season finale, Gabe looks more powerful and this might be if he's the one who had the G-men steal Vincent's blood so he could inject himself with it as well and even become more powerful to take on Vincent in the season finale...I'm just guessing.

  2. Thanks Lilith. I have to say I liked most of this episode better than most this season. I totally get the "I pucked a bit in my mouth" feeling over the whole Gabe date thing. An few episodes ago we had Cat slap him and now she agrees to do the date thing, that whole scenario just seems wrong to me and I really wonder if Sherri and Jenn have just given up. Next season it was said that they are consultants, which is again just so wrong to me. They, IMO, created the successful season and the show has basically been taken away from them-not a good move I think. There were some really funny scenes in this one- still not the passion we are craving. We can see the love and love isn't always about sex but we had lots of those stolen sexy moments in S01 and we should, have them 2.0 in season 2. I still feel that this whole season has been about Gabe and another Gabe centric episode with some " who is the real Cat". I just don't feel like these last episodes have been about VinCAT-it's been more about Gabe- and according to Brad Kerns the last arc was suppose to be VinCat! The other thing really bugging me is the lack of emotion over some pretty heart-stopping revelations- both Heather and Agent Knox seem to take the whole, beast thing in stride and the thing Vincent and Cat have been working for-the exoneration-didn't have near as much time or emotion as Cat and Gabe interactions!

  4. I loved this episode. Dont really care about all the intricacies, I watch for entertainment value and this episode entertained me from beginning to the very end. the Vincat banter was exceptional.
And yes, the V line OMG I owe you 50 bucks was so well delivered, I still think about it. It was just fun. All the actors did a great job. Nothing negative about this one for me

  5. Ok I agree the episode was good but not great. However your review was hard to follow with the grammatical errors and the incorrect usage of some words. I'm not complaining just pointing it out as a blogger/reviewer I thought you would like to know. I am currently writing a novel and if I errors I would want someone to point it out to me. Overall a nice review that hit all the important parts of the episode. I am glad that people do this. I sometimes miss portions of the show due to having a young son and it's summer so he stays up late. I also find it difficult to hear the dialog at times so I enjoy getting to read what I may have missed. So thank you for your hard work.

  6. You are right in most of your points of view, but still. I liked this episode very much!!, don't ask me why, but I did!!.

  7. Firstly I loved this ep. 90% LOVE and LOLfest to me ~ much more so than last week's Ever After. Fred Gerber's eps always give me the warm fuzzies. The VinCat bits were FUNtastic ~ a little lacking in PDA for instance when Cat told V about the date ~ yeah I wouldn't want to hear about G's first hand either Vincent ~ I would have liked to see her give him some reassurance like a face touch or ruffled his hair ~ SOMETHING other than just spouting light and easy so repetitively. Luckily the sweet head kiss and hug V gives Cat and their making out in the hostel made up for the sickening Gabe bits. I give this ep an A-minus mainly due to 1. the whole silly fake date premise. Evil Gabe showing his inner Beast is so welcome as he's always been that to me ~ but I just can't stomach another gross second of his playing nicey with Cat and vice versa. All the open heart cake decorating bits just make me want to gag again and the peck was so unnecessary. Yeah I know Jen has said she has a soft spot for Gabe or SR for some unfathomable reason.

I always like to start with moaning. Now all the things I DID love about OP Fake Date.
    1. MVP - Vincent. Funny worried jeolous Vincent ~ he just makes every episode of Season 2 for me ALWAYS. Glad you pointed out the 50 bucks line ~ he sounded sooooo sexy *swoon* one of my fave scenes
    2. VinCat ~ great interaction. Lovely for all the reasons pointed out earlier. Love them bringing the funny together.
    3. Cat ~ pretty much inconsistent in Season 2. I can never get over her horrid fauxmance with Gabe < major Season 2 gripe. I get it now that BK wanted to give Gabe motive for his later downward spiral but it was so overextended that it made Cat unlovable to me for much of Season 2. Would have MUCH preferred some other SL instead of Gabe hogging screentime at the expense of VinCat and JT getting shafted periodically. Anyway back to this ep, Cat's nudge during the 50 bucks line was so KK as she did the same during a Comic Con interview. ♥ Cat beasting out ~ fabulous of course. She's definitely a flawed heroine when it comes to character judgement *coughGabecough* but I love that Vincent was her voice of reason in this ep.
    4. JT in the sexshop was hilarious. Loved his reactions. Favorite line from him ~ now we're hugging because Gabe is alive. Exactly. Why all the sobs? Ya I know ~ she doesn't want to kill him ~ it's OK I prefer Vincent to have the honor and pleasure next week (hopefully!)
    5. Gabe ~ so happy to have my prediction come true that Gabe would ultimately beast out again. Can Heroes take him back now?
Can't stand Beth. Loved the ending! :D
    6. Agent Knox and the secret Govt guys < love this element. Hope to see its continuation in Season 3.

  8. This was one of my best episodes in the entire series so far, up there with 2 x 17, 1 x09, 1x15 and some others. I thought it was well written and excellently executed. All the cast brought their A game. It was funny, romantic, had action and mystery. I am sorry you didn't like it, perhaps the last one will be better for you.

  9. Very spot on Lillith, my only problem with BATB is the plot, other than that I love all the chracters/actors so much that whatever that comes out of their mouth I find it cute & lovable to watch but nothing more. Writers need to step up in the plot line and make this a more believable series, if you watch other shows you will know BATB is lacking depth in character development and don't leave aside the mythology is becoming a "dejavu" over and over, Gabe switch bad and good is so predictable, my only criticism positive one don't want to be labeled as negative, they need to improve in the writing in order to attract new fans if that's what they want, If not they will be stuck for the rest of the seasons with us the beasties at heart since we will forgive anything as long as we have our beautiful VinCat on screen.

  10. Sad but honest analysis. The episode was good for a sit-com but not for a season finale in a drama-oriented show. Jen and Sherry jumped from BATB ship many episodes ago. I can’t blame them . I sense their cooperation with Kern was a total wreck. But they should have left on a ‘high note’. The fans deserved it.
The characters depth so lovingly and carefully build over season 1 was definitively thrown in the trash. Nothing Vincent or Catherine did during S2 make any sense to me. The show’s concept of ‘epic’ love beautifully built in S1, morphed into laughable love triangles sucking up the whole narrative which was sloppy at best , as if writers opened up their notebooks and said “what mess can we today to sunk the ratings ? “ without even trying to connect one episode to the next or characters’ feelings to the storyline. Actually there wasn’t a story arc in S2.
The once charming, enigmatic Vincent was turned into a sort of cocky hottie making jokes while sleeping around with dumb teenagers and killing on request.
The once strong and empathic Beauty was turned into a lovesick pathetic heroine constantly asking herself: Gabe or Vincent ? Vincent or Gabe ? I felt she was having doubts even in the last episode, when she should be asking: Can’t I just be single for once and stop letting these idiots dictate every single moment of my life?
I won’t even start talking about Tess or Gabe.
I wish things could go back to the way they were in S1 . But they can’t. Well, I’m sorry but I don’t love VinCat anymore. If they want to win me back, they better remember who they were in S1 because right now, they look like two caricatures of themselves . I know it is just a stupid TV show but it sucks.

  11. Hey there, exactly my feelings, and that doesn't mean I am a lesser beastie because Im not, I have fought for this show for 2 years, founded and helped 2 fan pages, but my love for the show is not the same from1 season ago. It has become such a different show than the one I fell in love with, like a sit/com, I have followed other shows they never lose their essence, but with BATB is like they tried to gear up to more audience with Season 2 but what they did is never got new fans and lost 1/2 the audience they already had changing the actual concept from season 1. I still watch the show because Im in love with JayStin/VinCat but with BATB not much anymore.

  12. Fans were great in supporting this show , still are, but BATB writers shouldn’t take them as granted. The brilliant cast was the best asset they had and the main reason, if not the only, why I didn’t give up with this show but their talent was totally under-stimated and badly used. They tried to get the best from the poor script they were given but you can’t fool the audience for too long. At some point also the die-hard fans gave up and move to the next show.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I agree about not taking the fans for granted. Even before the season started, some fans jumped ship because they could already see that the whole premise for the season was going to be challenging-epic love and love triang es with someone who tried to kill them all in season 1?-Those who stayed faithful and true to show, tried over and over to tell the writer's that the season wasn't working and the ratings showed as well. And honest reviewers, like Lilith have tried as well to say we love the show we will do anything for the show but give us something back. Everytime Brad Kern's was interviewed this season, I also puked in my mouth a bit-his condescending attitude and statements like "putting them together in a more foundational way". All that did was destroy the "epic love" that we all felt in season 1. Now trying to get that feeling back is elusive at best. The episodes now are more entertaining, not as dark, we are finally seeing a return of Tess and JT as being main characters but I still feel like we are not being respected and appreciated for the truly amazing fanbase we are. We are the reason we got a second and third season-the diehard beasties support this show till the beasts come home and even MP said it was renewed because it has a huge and I mean huge social media presence-that is purely the beasties and a small group at that, but vocal and persistent, tenacious etc. We have this incredible talent in the actors and as fans we deserve to not be belittled. All we ask is to be consistent in the storyline (don't jump all over the place like this year), be consistent with the writing ( use a few veteran and good writers who know the story and what we fell in love with in S01) stay true to the essence of the show, stay true to who the audience really is and build on that not try and bring in an audience you will never get, and stay true to the characters and true to the fans and we should have another successful season like S01!

  14. I so agree with your last line. I feel like some are putting up with anything just because VINCAT are back, some are overlooking some real questionable themes and things that happen. Having VINCAT back is not the solution to all that has happened in season 2-and for now it is too late but we need to ensure the same does not happen in season 3. We deserve better and better doesn't mean VINCAT are together-they need to be-especially now when the whole season this one was to bring them back together-better means their epic love back-the passion we saw in season 1-this is a fairy-tale romance and this season more than ever after they got together again should have seen a return to that passion-all the time they were on the run we saw seconds of any passion that was cut short-almost like we are being punished cause many of us didn't like the season-There will always be danger around the corner with these two-so the honeymoon period should never be over-I felt we had that in season 1 and no matter if fans liked or didn't like the first 3/4 of season 2, we should now be getting that epic love feeling back not just settling for them being together IMO!

  16. When you are in love , as I was with BABT, you just see the best qualities and get over any imperfection but indeed there were few imperfection, a bit of so-so writing and plot holes, just I didn’t care because the show was worth watching. VinCat were worth watching . Looking back now at the end of S2 , I think S1 was an underrated masterpiece and S1 writers a bunch of geniuses.

  17. Thank you Lilith, for the well written and humorous review.
Jay Ryan is excellent with many subtleties and nuances that give that extra dimension to this show. The 50 bucks line, the blonde-wig-line, the "I don't want to know about Gabe's first hand"-line. His firmly clasped hands when he forces himself to be light and easy. When Vincent says "nice to be able to help you for once" he squirms just a little; Vincent's character is so naturally unassuming that he can't say anything that is even slightly self-praising without looking highly embarrassed. When he then goes on to praise Cath for helping him by beasting out he doesn't fidget at all.
The main plot twist, the fake date wasn't fake at all, it was a very straightforward and upfront date with clearly stated goals that they both were frank about. And furthermore it was one of those typical Cath plans that usually sounds stupid from the outset and yet accomplishes nothing or makes thing worse in the end. You'd think Gabe's gift for effortless lying should be well known by Cath, after a season and a half of his lies and manipulations. Gabe is better as a full blown villain, he may ham it a little but at least we see some emotion now, not just a blank face.

  18. I agree...enough creepy Gabe...he is so gone from this show. There was never any chemistry between him and Cat...if fact it was hard to watch. Who would ever...ever choose creepy Gabe over smokn hot Vincent??? A really...would the Catherine from season 1 ever forgive him for what he tried to do and how he pulled them apart? Hope S3 fixes the mess that was S2

  19. Lilith, thank you for providing such an in depth review. You are the best. Yvonne, I agree with you 100%. Catherine's fiasco plans are usually not well thought out but everyone goes along with her to the detriment of all. They never end up as planned. But she is getting downright dangerous. After sabotaging their witness protection, who would have thought it could get much worse. But it does. Why would you tell your barely in control boyfriend that you kissed another man, his rival and the one who is trying to capture him?
The entire scene in Gabe's apartment was strange. He lay dead at her feet, but Catherine had time to rummage around for the defibrillator which she must have located in some closet, then decided not to use it. She also had time to call JT while he was out shopping. Gabe was still dead when JT finally arrived. Doesn't that mean that Gabe laid there dead for some relatively long time? Rigor mortis was about to set in, for heaven's sake. Yet they revive him and send him on his way to kill her friend who decided to confront a kidnapper in the middle of the night alone. A script with a little common sense would be welcome.
Thankfully, JR handles his scenes and makes them memorable. Even the creepy discussion on the balcony was believable. I agree, Lilith, it was a blessing for JT to interrupt.

  20. LOL. This was the most hilarous comment at the episode. Rigor mortis and Gabe don't mesh well isn't it ? I think he's a vampire . They should try to kill him with a wooden stake

  21. Lilith, you always manage to get to the core of each episode and I thank you so much for that. The 1st 4 eps of this Season worked, Gabe/Cat, Tori/Vincent did not, but we all knew about the triangles from Comic Con, just not how they would be introduced. Bad decisions all the way around. The reason that I have thoroughly enjoyed the eps after the hiatus is the comment that KK said at ComicCon last year about she and Jay trying to find the honesty of these characters and if it was always epic, it would get boring. Steamy VinCat would never get boring, but not allowing their brilliant talent to shine through. I Loved Operation Fake Date! Jealous V is hot. Jay's delivery at every point was spot on. Catherine finally having enough of Gabe and almost making us CHEER, showed me the depth of her ability to act! Not a wimpy whiny Cat she made herself out to be. She did push the envelope with Gabe, but it was always for Vincent. His acceptance and understanding of why she did what she did, showed the perfect balance of Man/Beast. Austin and Nina are the perfect odd couple! The comedy lights the darkness of what Gabe has become. I hope Deja Vu leaves us in a EUPHORIC state of mind and you giving it an A++! Thanks again!

  22. Thank you, Lilith. I was impressed with so many situations on a single episode - I understand that you too, but correct me if I'm wrong. I found incoherent, Gabe believe in Cat, especially after all he has done to her, Vincent and Heather. I don't know but it seems that now want to solve everything from night to day.
I loved your comment about VinCat start a make out session that seemed to lead to something else (but we'll never know, because the scene was cut) - shame really, it is up to our imagination ... It seems that the writers always will do that way.
For me, the episode was very good, but not the best!

  23. Maureen, as you, I also have hope yet to see more romantic moments around VinCat. I can't resist, not after of the wonderful season 1.

  25. That was prophetic, Sarahross! Isn't that exactly how Gabe was killed in the end, with a wooden stake? He should be buried with it so he doesn't pull the vampire trick.

  26. Yeah , I laughed so hard when I saw it :-)) Btw this made me wonder where Vincent buried the billion people he killed in the last two seasons .
