I watched this earlier and seriously its really good and everyone should watch it, they all discuss what it is like to be a women in the industry, I found Retta and Ming-na's stories particularly interesting.
I think it's very difficult for actors to talk about their own shows, or really any shows, in a critical manner. Someone 'in the business' once told me that Hollywood uses 'personal gratification' and 'reputation' as its main currencies, and so criticizing people is a great way to make sure you never find work again.
The few who can do it successfully are usually comedians, aka the people with professional-level skill at getting away with that shit.
Zach Levi should get a "coolest dude in Hollywood" award. I don't think I've ever seen someone use their breakthrough role to become such an obviously positive force... sure, lots of celebrities get involved in charitable endeavors, but his never feels like it's about self-gratification or waving his fame around; rather it's all about bringing fans and entertainers closer together as a partnership for a great cause, all while providing some of the most insightful and important conversations at comic-con (like this panel!) The man is truly an inspiration.
Well, she did the Orphan Black panel at NerdHQ before this, and then went to another "badass" women panel in another hall (ballroom or whatever), so she wasn't available for this one.
Thanks!! Nice to see someone from Sweden there in the panel. I've always wanted to go to an event and I'm from The Netherlands but I never go. Want to so bad..
I really enjoyed this panel. It's probably among the most relevant and insightful panels I've ever seen. I especially enjoyed Retta and Ming-Na's answers to the questions.
great description of zach 1derer, sometimes i can't believe this man actually exists he is so awesome and an inspiration to every single person out there, and i never knew yvonne's parents and ming-na's mom escaped communism no wonder they admire them and lol at zach when they asked where the women would like to go on vacation and zach said "missy... budget" i laughed so hard at that and i loved zach and yvonne's hive five up and down awesome, it actually felt strange having zach's tv wife yvonne and real wife missy together in the same room.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I freaking love NerdHQ

ReplyDeleteYes, I totally agree with this. This panel is just amazing and inspirational just like the women who were a part of it. :)
ReplyDeleteIt made me laugh, it made me cry, it charged me with positive energy. You really want to see this. ;-)
I'm a guy and I enjoyed this. It would have been nice to hear Sophie Turner talk about the whole nudity thing given its presence on Game of Thrones.
ReplyDeleteI don't see Tatiana Maslany, the rest is present.

ReplyDeleteGreat panel, great guests, especially Retta and Ming-na. Great questions, too (which is quite rare).
ReplyDeleteI had never really wondered why Retta was only credited as 'Retta', it's nice to know the reason.
I really like NerdHQ. Still remember it's first year at SDCC :)
ReplyDeleteThat aside, nice to see a panel devoted to badass women!
Ditto at all those emotions felt during this panel

ReplyDelete"What couldn't I live without? (...) Um, Water, Food, fucking men," you gotta love her :P
