J.R. Ramirez has been cast as Ted “Wildcat” Grant on the upcoming third season of the CW‘s Arrow. The show’s executive producer Marc Guggenheim announced at Comic-Con this past weekend that the character would be introduced on the show in Season 3 but did not reveal casting information. The role is envisioned as a potentially recurring. In the DC Comics, Ted Grant is a member J.R. Ramirez Wildcat Arrow CWof the Justice Society for America, as well as the mentor and trainer of other masked vigilantes including the Black Canary.

Don't know Ramirez but I'm excited :D
ReplyDeleteLoved him in Emily Owens! I assume he will nail something else besides the role ! ;-)
ReplyDeleteis he a CW actor?
ReplyDeleteI was expecting someone older.
ReplyDeleteI'm freaking hoping he has good chemistry with Cassidy! She deserves a good storyline. While she and Amell couldn't pull good chemistry on-screen, i'm a big fan of her with the Winchester brothers in Season 3 of Supernatural, and so she deserves a good love interest.
ReplyDeleteThis year, Laurel is turning out to be one of my most anticipated characters: her new dinamic with Oliver as friends(Laurel needs to stop pursuing him and have some honor, damm! She's a capable woman!) and she training with Ted Grant will be awesome!
I'm really psyched about the females of Arrow on Season 3(Laurel training, Felicity's backstory and the darker Thea).
In Arrow, Grant will be a former boxer who now runs a gym for underprivileged youth. A man with a mysterious past, he will play a pivotal role in Laurel Lance’s arc this season.
ReplyDeleteDunno the actor, but I'm excited about the character and Laurel's arc this season.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I was thinking someone like a Max Martini-type actor would get the role.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see a Summer TV movie event with Arrow, Flash, Canary, Firestorm and Wildcat! A mini Justice League before the big one in a few summers.
ReplyDeletegonna look him up, hoping for good chemistry beetween him and Katie.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to guess, I'd say there's a good chance this guy trains Laurel.
ReplyDeletesure hope so,she didn't have much with oliver!
ReplyDeleteOn Emily Owens, he played the Latino bad boy, if I recall right! He had an affair with the Attending, and played on that card even though she was married.
ReplyDeleteThink it could work for him and Katie, but I hope he will have an evil agenda and pull her in a bit. Think "evil" Laurel could be interesting.
when would they film it? They don't have much free time from end of April to July, and i don't think they would like to do the same thing they do over the year during hiatus.
ReplyDeleteLast night i was thinking about The CW actually developing a Batman Beyond and a retooled Amazon series.
ReplyDeleteI mean, Batman Beyond uses a very old Bruce Wayne and newcommer Terry McGinnis. Amazon was a show that was in production no long before, i dreamed with a Wonder Woman played by Alison Brie(Community) with the leather pants and jacket, love that costume in the comics.
Also, now that they are aparently using Stewart as Green Lanter we could see a Hal Jordan Tv Show. It would be awesome a Justice League made of Arrow, Flash, Wonder Woman, Batman Beyond, Green Lantern, Black Canary, Arsenal and Firestorm... And of couse, Felicity as Oracle!
I liked her chemistry with Ollie in S01, it was somehow forbidden but sincere. S02 was a killer in that department. I think the way the 2 of them were written is what killed the romance.
ReplyDeleteHe was on the same show as Justin Hartley (former Oliver Queen) ha ha. Now he's on a show with the current OQ.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good guy to me. He runs a gym for underprivileged youth. In the comics he was a former criminal who got is name cleared.
ReplyDeleteCut Arrow/Flash to 20 eps just for that season maybe?
ReplyDeleteHaha, yup, though I think he'll also be her love interest this season.
ReplyDeleteI'd love that!
ReplyDeleteIts still the same characters, i dont think they would be upto it.
ReplyDeleteA fan can dream...
ReplyDeleteMaybe he uses it for some secret battles, during the night. U never know and Laurel likes the bad boy factor ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting see him fit in and go maybe head to head with Oliver at one point.
Lol i would want a TV event also but would also feel for the actors.
ReplyDeleteHe is definately young......but with some makeup.....I think they will make him older close to his 40s
ReplyDeleteIt will be a good and necessary story arc for the show...but I've said this before: if the producers wanted to make a Batman TV show then they should have made a Batman TV show!
ReplyDeleteI type this as I've opened up my old comic book collection from years ago and look at that. Catwoman 4 part mini series from 1989.
Selina Kyle walks into Ted Grant's boxing gym with a Wildcat poster on the wall and convinces him to train her how to fight. Lesson 1 was to cut her hair. It just gives her opponent something to grab.
But in comics Black Canary was also trained by wild cat. So they didn't necessarily take this character from Batman series.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I am saying this. I am excited for Laurel. At last the first step towards her becoming BC. I like the back story of this guy too. Sounds like a good man.
ReplyDeleteAgain with the mysterious past though. Who doesn't have mysterious past in Arrow?
Anyone know the actor? Is he good. Can I be hopeful?
Writers, this is your last chance to make me like Laurel. You better bring your A-game this season.
ReplyDeleteEh, first bit of uninspired casting from Arrow. He screams ' hot love interest' rather than the older mentor/trainer type character Wildcat is supposed to be. But if it starts Laurel on the path to Black Canary and gives her a good story this year I guess we'll see where it goes.
ReplyDeleteWildcat trained Black Canary in the comics after serving with her mother in the JSA. That's not stealing from Batman nor emulating.
ReplyDeleteSmallville had a 2hr special based on JSOA and in the glass case was boxing gloves :) with the name Wildcat :)
ReplyDelete"if the producers wanted to make a Batman TV show then they should have made a Batman TV show!"
ReplyDeleteThat's only possible if DC allows them to. As far as I know, DC considers Batman (the live action version) a big-screen-only character.
I think it is becoming pretty clear that he will be a potential love interest for Laurel. I'm calling the hot, sweaty grappling scenes now.
ReplyDeleteYeah. It's looking like they went younger so the character can be paired up. God forbid we have some characters on Arrow who aren't boning someone or looking to do so. The Malcolm / Thea subplot is starting to look a little more tolerable to me now.
ReplyDeleteI like the casting but I don't want him to be just a love interest. Also if the writers idea to make Laurel more likeable is to give her a love interest that isn't Oliver they are going to fail. I just hope they give Laurel a better and more consistent storyline this season.
ReplyDeleteAlso I hope this doesn't erase Laurel's friendship with Oliver. I don't care about the ships but I prefer them to be on good terms. Oliver can date whoever he wants and be able to still be friends with Laurel.
A FILF is always better. Just saying. However I'll wait for what it turns out of this. (PLEASE NOT LOVE INTEREST)
ReplyDeleteHow come we never saw hair pulling in the Helena vs Sara fight? It would be funny if they pulled off each other's wigs than one can pull on the other's hair.
ReplyDeleteKatie Cassidy has definitely been working out to prepare for her arc this season, she looks insane on her Instagram: http://instagram.com/p/qhm061lS-z/?modal=true
ReplyDeleteLoved Batman Beyond when I was a kid! Hope they didn't give up on that Amazon show...
ReplyDeletehopefully this young version of Ted Grant is married so the love interest won't happen....
ReplyDeleteWould be awesome if he's already married with a young son and they kept his relationship to Laurel strictly trainer/trainee. But it's still a CW show, so I'm sceptical.
ReplyDeletewell I don't the Arrow crew would be pair WIldcat/Laurel together since it should only be a mentor/student relationship nothing more. Yes this is The CW but the producer said they have plan out the season and I sure they would not want to mess that Wildcat/LAurel mentorship because they will know it get a lot of hate if it also include love interest
ReplyDeleteI'd love it if it turned out that way, especially considering Laurel has less than a year of sobriety under her belt and AA strongly recommends you do not date in your first year of recovery.
ReplyDeleteThat could actually be an interesting way to start of. They meet at AA and from there go the sponsor/mentor route.
ReplyDeleteAnother good idea. You're on a roll.
ReplyDeletewe see if the writer do that or not
ReplyDeleteBut they have already teased a new love interest for Laurel. The question is, Is Ted Grant that person?
ReplyDeleteI hope Ted Grant has some connection with Arrow or Oliver. If not once more Laurel will have a storyline completely removed from Arrow business and thus Oliver and main story. That will not bode good for Laurel. Every other person's track this season will affect Oliver. Whether its Thea, Diggle, Felicity, Roy or Sara. So how is Ted Grant connection of Laurel going to affect Oliver?
ReplyDeleteI need more info on Ted Grant.
It's a tough dilemma. On one hand not everything have to be connected to Oliver, but as you say it's not good if Laurel is too disconnected from the main plot either. The easy connection would be that Ted Grant was around in Hong Kong and some kind of shady history with Amanda Waller. Or would that be too similar to last years Slade Wilson plot?
ReplyDeleteI'm sure he probably is but I like Jon's ideas better.
ReplyDeleteIt is a tough dilemma especially since this is Laurel. Maybe her connection to the main plot will be the motivation to train herself. Something happens with regards to League which forces Laurel to train. But even then all the time she is training she will be removed from main plot. It should be a fine balance or else people once again will start the " kill her off" campaign.
ReplyDeletemaybe just an old friend of Oliver.....I am really hoping Ted Grant has a connection to Sin who would fit his character description to help her
ReplyDeleteWell. Now that I think about it. Laurel's comic book alter ego did have a fling with Ra's Al Ghul. Maybe they'll reference that plot and make him the love interest, probably under an alias. Before he's revealed as the Big Bad.
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it. Laurel's comic book alter ego did have a
ReplyDeletefling with Ra's Al Ghul. Maybe they'll reference that plot and make him
the love interest, probably under an alias. Before he's revealed as the
Big Bad.
Did the BC in comics knew it was RAG she was having a fling with? Or did she not know he was the demon.
ReplyDeleteI don't think sleeping with the enemy thing will go over well for Laurel. But I hope writers are bold and do it. I will enjoy it.
better to be with the bad guy than with mentor......
ReplyDeleteI've not read the issues in question (late 90's Birds of Prey) but I think she knew exactly who he was there.
ReplyDeleteI like this plot. If Ra's use an alias and have a relationship with Laurel to get to Sara, it will be a huge motivation for Laurel to train so that she can protect herself and her sister. I hope Ted Grant and Laurel relationship has the Oliver/Diggle dynamics. Someone like that will do wonders for Laurel.
ReplyDeleteI agree better to be with the bad guy than mentor. This will also give Laurel more motivation to kick Ra's ass in the final showdown. I like it.
ReplyDeleteHave to look up his face.
ReplyDeleteHere you go. Also adding a panel of Ted Grant from a 2007 issue of Birds of Prey. So for looks he's pretty spot on, if not for age.
ReplyDeleteThank You. I know what he looks like in the comics, but idk the actor. As soon as I saw his face (that you posted) I thought that was a very good choice, let's hope he can live up to the character. Thank you again.
ReplyDeletedo you think he a bit young? because he might be a LI and mentor to Laurel.....
ReplyDeleteNot really. Personally I just feel he's handsome. Lol which is rare b/c I don't look towards a character b/c their "eye candy"... but seriously it's more towards what he brings to the table. They've already screwed up with Waller (for me). So i can't even complain about this guy's youthful appearance.
