    My first reaction at seeing this picture was holy crap! That costume looks amazing! I also agree that Arsenal's costume is more elaborate than Arrow's. So costume designers, let's see what we can do to fit that.

    EW can confirm that Roy will be joining Team Arrow as a fully fledged member in season three. The Arsenal suit will make its first appearance in the first episode of season three, which returns Oct. 8 on The CW.

    This is likely a custom job for Roy so I want to know how Oliver or Felicity found someone to make a suit like this without asking any questions or raising any red flags.

    Why? He's been through his crucible (which seems to be the requirement on Arrow to becoming a superhero) will obviously go through more training in the period between the finale and time jump and the producer's have constantly talked about his new relationship with Team Arrow and embracing being a hero. It's the next development in Roy's arc.

    He won't there's no point, and Oliver isn't the type of guy to change his costume for aesthetic reasons. Plus it honours Shado and her father by wearing it.

    Yah, he'll be called Arsenal, but it's definitely a mix of Red Arrow as well. In Young Justice, the way Red Arrow and Arsenal looks, this is definitely a mash-up of the two looks. One of Arrow's better costumes I think.

    Amell said the costume could have some changes recently during a Facebook Q&A, though. I definitely won't say it'll never happen. As he evolves into becoming more of a hero to Starling City, he could see a need to wear a more inspiring suit than something so depressing.

    I don't know... I mean Oliver and Sara got years of training under their belt, Roy's got what? 10 months and that's enough? Given that train of thought, if they train Laurel all this season, she could be the BC the next one... It's too son for me, and I'm tired of things happening off camera and the writers just telling us and expecting us to accept it at face value. Like I said, maybe it's just me.

    Since he is active in the field from time to time, it may be one thing for Roy to be a costumed sidekick, but if Laurel becomes a full on heroine in a year's time it would annoy me greatly!

    Well Oliver was incredibly well trained after a year thanks to Slade and Shado so it would make sense, plus Roy was a great fighter beforehand. A year is a pretty long period to be trained. Laurel though yeah, while I would like to see her beginning to maybe train by the middle , I would rather she develop more as a character until she possibly learns boxing from Ted Grant (oh I hope she does), even then Laurel does have pretty good self defence training (she's no were close to Black Canary comic levels though) and therefore does have basic fighting instincts so a year wouldn't be too bad.

    Maybe it's just me, but I honestly don't understand how Roy's storyline last season was a "crucible" of any sort. It's even less so than Laurel's drug addiction and alcoholism.

    Oooh yessssss, looks good (although now I want Roy and Barry to compare costumes because they're kinda color coordinated), can't wait to see Roy's storyline in S3. I'm really hopeful about S3 with all the tidbits we've been getting and I wasn't a huge fan of the messy storyline and characterization we got in S2.

    Oliver's situation is a bit different in my eyes, he was in an enviroment were he either learned or died, period. Those extreme circumstancies are what shaped him in such a short time, and it's the only reason why I find it more believable. Roy was nothing more than a part time wanna be sidekick, and he wasn't very good at it, and now he's supposed to be what? an equal to Ollie? Nope, that doesn't work for me. Hopefully they'll show him try and fail several times, and I mean SHOW not only TELL us. That I could accept.
    Now Laurel is another story. I agree with you that she has a solid background on self defense and they can build on that, but I still don't think anyone can be on Oliver's level training part time.
    And yes, a year is a long time, but not long enough to turn into a full blown vigilante. I have a friend who's been doing jiu jitsu for almost a year and a half, and even if it's quite impresive to see him fight, he has a lot to learn. Of course, he does it part time, but so would Roy and Laurel. That's why I think it's not believable enough.

    But he had only been trining part time, and not very succesfully... I still think it's too son for him. And Graydon has a good point regarding Laurel, she does have a solid background on self difence, so she has a basic knowledge of fighting, as long as she's not full on heroine, but a heroine in training instead, it could work. Of course, the fandom will go crazy if it's does, LOL.

    I think it's too early for both to be called heroes or to be anything more than apprentices, sidekicks, or heroes-in-training etc...


    Both have certain aspects working in their favor I guess... Lauren has a strong background in self-defense and Roy has been playing the role of amateur hero even before hooking up with Team Arrow.


    That said, I think that there is a big difference between self-defense and actively initiating contact with bad guys who do not play by the rules and often times have guns etc.. Strategy comes into play and that requires real world training much like Oliver had on the island.


    His intense multi-year existence was much more effective than anything Laurel could go through on her own I would think. Roy is getting some of Oliver's knowledge through the training I'm sure, but it cannot be the same as life or death existence like you mentioned above.


    *shrug*
    I know TV needs to accelerate things and can accept it for the most part. That said, I still think heroes should have more than just the run-of-the-mill self-defense or martial arts classes.

    Eh fine, but he did take on those thugs trying to rob Thea pretty well. He did get stabbed but still took them on and fought them enough. Plus Oliver's standards are a little high.

    These writers like to tell instead of show (see also: "Laurel knows Oliver better than anyone"). Doesn't mean I find it convincing. Roy was in some sort of trance-like state when he went crazy, killed a cop and hurt others. He doesn't remember any of what happened, which also means he isn't (yet) weighed down with guilt over it. So how has he been transformed into a vigilante by his storyline?


    Actually, even if Roy DID remember everything, I'm still not sure that would qualify as a proper crucible. The writers like to throw that word around ("This is her crucible" / "This is his island") but they don't seem to realize that not every bad, or even horrible, experience someone goes through turns him/her into a vigilante who goes out at night and risks his/her life to battle criminals. Personally, I don't understand what the stuff Roy went through with the Mirakuru even has to do with becoming Arsenal. But that's just nitpicky me.

    The costume itself looks good. Very badass, with a great, cool, modern design, while still looking like it could be a viable outfit for heavy action. I'm not particularly fond of how that mask looks on him though.

    Since the show is just starting to call Oliver "The Arrow", not "Green Arrow", it probably would be too confusing at this point in the storyline to call Roy "Red Arrow". Still, I think in terms of naming, "Red Arrow" suits him more than Arsenal. I guess stuffing this costume with so many weapons somewhat qualifies him as "Arsenal".

    It looks really good. I also don't think it's too soon for Roy to become a suited hero. When he was first introduced he had some street skills. He could fight. During his time with Oliver he has trained and grown into a better person who wants to do good. This timeskip, no doubt he's grown even better. Half a year is a long time to improve. But I do agree with some comments that we shouldn't just have to accept everything has been done off-screen. I hope we get some insight, and get a good look at what Roy is capable of soon.
