Ra's al Ghul has been chosen to be the main villain but not yet casted. New footage featured in this trailer.
Thanks to SHIELDNCISArrwfan for the heads up.
Ra's coming might herald the introduction of Bruce Wayne into the series.
After all, Ra's al Ghul has always been one of Batman's greatest enemies. Bruce might come to Starling City to help Oliver defeat him or give him advice about how to defeat him.
I am confused about Ted Grant since they mentioned in interview that she will have an encounter with him. Nothing about being her mentor or LI.
They focused primarily on Ra though:
Discussions started happening with DC and then Superman-Batman started happening getting into clearer focus," he said. "The character seemed to be available as far as not being used in the movies. It was a very, very organic progression. That was what was fun for us, just how natural it happened."
As Guggenheim tells it, Arrow's version of Ra's al Ghul will be distinctive enough. "We have a really clever way of doing Ra's this year that is true to the comic-book origins but different from the way Ra's was portrayed in the Nolan movies.
Even though it's been reported that Peter Stormare will be playing Werner Zytle / Count Vertigo next season I wonder if he will actually be playing Ra's al Ghul instead.
He won't. Due to Gotham on FOX, DC wouldn't let them do that as well considering the upcoming Batman vs. Superman and the writers wouldn't want to include him.
I really don't think DC will ever allow them to use Batman, though - maybe only as Bruce Wayne. And even if they could, I'm not sure they would want to do Batman on the small screen, without a big name actor and a big budget for stunts and pyrotechnics. It could easily be underwhelming and attract a lot of backlash from Batfans.
Does anyone else wonder why they start off the promo with the Huntress' "Once you let the darkness inside" quote, especially combined with a shot of Oliver? Is he going to take a walk on the dark side this season? Hmmmm.
So Ra's and Malcolm can't be allies, right? And Ra's knew Moira which could indicate he's not going to kill Oliver asap. Or there could be a twist. Anyway it's great he'll appear in the series.
"Once you let the darkness inside" quote, especially combined with a shot of Oliver? Is he going to take a walk on the dark side this season?
Kreisberg : “In some ways, as Oliver is struggling with whether or not he can be the Arrow and Oliver at the same time, the villain of season 3 is saying, ‘Being Oliver Queen is what’s holding you back from fulfilling your true destiny.’ So it’s a very interesting dynamic, but it is tied in the same way that Oliver last year was wrestling with, ‘Am I a hero or a killer?’ The theme of identity is tied up very much in how the villain is presented to Oliver.”
They are not giving up much on Ted Grant. I don't know why they consider Laurel's journey to be BC needs to be kept vague. They should come out and say we are working towards it and Ted Grant is the first step. KC did hint during the dc panel about Ted Grant's and BC comic book trajectory.
My theory is he is going to start out as a mentor and then turn to a LI. Or if they are bold they will make Ra's Laurel's Love interest. In comics BC and Ra's does have a relationship.
Yeah i seen that and MG was rather vague about it at the DC WB panel. Was surprised that there wasn't much reaction about the TD showing up. Watching that panel made me realize why KC doesn't let her cons be filmed. That answer to GJ was very weird.
Some twists of the show aren't in canonical series as far as I understand. I'm not quite sure, some comics haven't appeared in my country. In theory writers could create a story with them as best buddies but I guess it's not likely.
i think they had to take the chance of getting Ra while its available. They may have not have gotten access for later season due to the fact that Ra might appear in any of the movies.
I am not a huge fan of KC's interviews or view points about her character and the show. She usually has my opposite opinion. LOL. But I think in this case she was being kind of coy so that she could be vague. I felt sorry for Willa and KC this comic con. Both of them were not allowed to say anything about where their character is going? Colton mentioned in an interview that he always gets emails from bosses asking him to keep things vague. Willa all through out the con kept on saying "The Thea Queen who left Starling City in Season 2 is not the Thea Queen that comes back" and also that she is hitting the gym. It must be frustrating for these ladies to be asked the same question without being allowed to answer.
Other actors also has this problem but they are adept at this press thing. David Ramsay always comes back to Olicity date or Oliver's journey when he can't come up with an answer. PB just simply don't say much. John Barrowman will speak a lot without revealing anything and we will all salivate LOL. John Barrowman and SA both are very talented in handling an interview. Emily was lucky she had few things to touch up on in the interviews. Colton has his Arsenal suit so he is fine.
What I did not understand was why they revealed the Ted Grant role in this panel and why not in the earlier panel? How is Ted Grant going to get any attention after that Ra's Al Ghul reveal? There was no fan fare for Ted. KC did have her bad moments in interview this comic con. (IGN live interview had one) but this I think was her attempt to be vague.
BTW I loved how KC and Emily was whispering and giggling and having fun all through out that panel. Our Arrow cast is incredible.
Yesterday I watched the Comic Con panel and the show runner said Ra's hates Malcolm so the situation it's going to be more like "who hates who the most". Does Oliver team up with Ra's to stop Malcolm or he will team up with Malcolm to stop Ra's?
My problem is that we are talking about Geoff freaking Johns. Why not just be humorous about it and say the audience will just have to wait and see. Willa gave a lot of those answers and she was quite funny. KC on the other hand admitted that she hasn't read the comics yet and wont until she becomes Canary, so why give that kind of response to someone who actually worked on Arrow and is part of the Flash. I actually think it would help her with establishing a base for Laurel and how to play her. And it would help her understand her character better. I think that she doesn't quite understand who Laurel is (outside the canary or her relationship with Oliver) and it really showed at the IGN interview when she turned to MG a lot to help her out.
I know. Slade definitely need a break. But Manu Bennett was something else. He had such presence on the screen. If it was any smaller actor Slade would have come off as comical with his motivations. He looked scary and his voice......
She could definitely use a new PR person. When she tries to be funny it comes out crass for the lack of better term. She really is not good at being impulsive and humerous. Poor KC. Her IGN interview was just awkward. Willa just owned that she can't say anything and just went with it.
I guessed she was trying to make a joke. But it came off very weirdly and i got a bit annoyed since we are talking about GJ. I am really surprised how KC is handling her media appearances. Before Arrow i never saw her acting in anything, but heard various praises of her. So i thought she might be very good at the media game, considering how long she is already a part of it.
I'm so glad I just played Batman Arkham City. It's a good crash course in Batman mythology! I didn't know anything about Ra's al Ghul or Oracle! All my Batman knowledge was from the Dark Knight. I much prefer the games to the movies.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
The ending is so cool! I'm really excited for this, Ra's will be a formidable appoinent for Oliver.
ReplyDeleteWhat a tease on what's coming up. I really thought we won't get Ra's this season. Nice costume.
ReplyDeleteAlso Ted Grant's coming to hang out with Laurel people.
jeez that guy look completely terrifying and you can't even see his face, oliver's going to have his work cut out for him
ReplyDeleteWow I really thought they wouldn't have had Ra's on the show until the 5th and last planned season.
ReplyDeleteRa's coming might herald the introduction of Bruce Wayne into the series.

ReplyDeleteI want to know who is portraying Ra's in the teaser since they have not cast him yet.......unless they are lying and keep it hush hush
ReplyDeleteThe Ra's tease was really good.

ReplyDeleteexactly what i was thinking, now real problem is(for me of course) if i don't like Ra's there's a good chance i will stop watching arrow.
ReplyDeletePrecisely, batman is just too big for the small screen, maybe Bruce Wayne could barely fit into it xD but not for long
ReplyDelete"Once you let the darkness inside" quote, especially combined with a
ReplyDeleteshot of Oliver? Is he going to take a walk on the dark side this season?

AHHHHHH!!!!!! Omg!!! My heart can't take this!!! Ra's is coming. I mean we all KNEW it was gonna happen, but just seeing it makes it better.

Malcolm was part of the League of Assassins but since he left and faked his own death my guess that him and Ra's aren't on the best terms.
ReplyDeleteThe Demon is coming, I can't freaking wait, I hope the casting lives up to our expectations.
ReplyDeleteYeah i seen that and MG was rather vague about it at the DC WB panel. Was surprised that there wasn't much reaction about the TD showing up.

ReplyDeleteBut was it a douchebag-Oliver or a I'll-protect-my-friend-Oliver? One can't be sure after a relatively short promo.
ReplyDeletei think they had to take the chance of getting Ra while its available. They may have not have gotten access for later season due to the fact that Ra might appear in any of the movies.
ReplyDeletewell since Season 1 to 3 has link to LOA.....they might want to wrap that storyline now than later
ReplyDeleteYeah and the EP said they can use Ra character as long he doesnt appear in the movies.

I am really excited for season 3 but god I miss Manu Bennett as Slade already :(

awesome!! this show definitely knows how to do a good promo!
ReplyDeletedoes someone know the song at 0:40?
Oh, how could I miss the panel! Thanks!

ReplyDeleteI enjoy both, but the games are much, much, much truer to comic lore.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's easier to put in more in the games. I might go back and watch the movies now that I have greater appreciation for Batman.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely should, but go in with the notion of being it's own separate DC universe.
ReplyDeleteGood advice! I will watch from the very start!
