2014 Character Cup - 2C

24 Jul 2014

Congratulations to Felicity Smoak, Melinda May, Dean Winchester....and Elijah Mikaelson, who by the narrowest of votes yet (8), made it to round 3. That poll was a nailbiter for sure. I love when things get exciting. Thanks as always to those who participated. Until tomorrow, happy voting!

Previous contest results

Polls end - Thursday around 5:30 pm CST

Prediction contest results - Teen Wolfers is the only person to get 100% correct in yesterday's polls. Congratulations! It was another hard bracket.

TV Talk Topic - Today we have 2 separate TV Talk topics because I replaced 1 with our Kickstarter campaign one.
1. How do you best like to watch TV? Are you a binge watcher or do you like a weekly schedule? Do some shows lend themselves more to one or the other? Do you ever watch shows live or do you DVR or stream them? Does social media affect how or when you watch?

2. What kinds of characters/genres do you want more of on TV? Is there any kind of characters/genre that there is too much of? How well balanced do you think TV is these days?

  1. Only Tyrion for me today

  2. Wow, yesterday got intense in the Elijah vs. Red poll. Love it.

My Picks - Pretty easy day for me.

    1. Sheldon - While I think he's the lease developed character on TBBT, I don't watch BatB.

    2. Ichabod - If this were Walter instead of Olivia representing Fringe, I would probably choose Walter. However, I love Ichabod as a character. He is funny, smart, kick butt, and a honest to goodness true gentleman. That's a quality we never get on TV these days so he stuck out amongst a ton of new characters for me. Olivia I wavered back and forth on in all the Fringe years and in the end, I actually like Alt-Olivia better.

3 and 4. None - I don't watch any of these shows and I don't hate any of these characters enough to vote against them.

  3. Just Walter.

    1. I like having a weekly schedule of shows (and
whenever one isn't on - eg 24 LAD this week - I feel something missing
from my life). Equally, I like binge-watching because when I get into a
show after an episode, I can go straight to the next one (this was
especially great when watching Breaking Bad season 5, when I watched 11
episodes in a day; I also once watched 14 episodes of Nikita in a day). I
send out the occasional tweet while watching a show but generally
(because I live in the UK and can't watch until hours after the episode
airs on the East Coast, I generally avoid Twitter.

    2. I think TV
at the moment is trying to produce far more sci-fi, serialised shows.
This is for the reason that they are quite popular (due to shows like
LOST). I don't mind that, because I do enjoy sci-fi dramas (though not
heaps and heaps). There are a lot of dramas on show at the moment which
is great because I don't really do comedies.

    Sheldon - Olivia - Tyrion - Walter

  9. Sheldon, Ichabod, Tyrion, and Walter tonight.
I tend to binge a lot of shows because I sometimes go a long time without watching any TV. I miss a lot. If the show is really good, my OCD won't let me stop at one or two episodes. There are only 4 shows I absolutely try very hard to watch live. Teen Wolf and The 100 because I love to live tweet them and Sleepy Hollow and Supernatural. Because it's Ichabod and Dean. Everything else I DVR so I can FF commercials.
As for characters and shows, I love genre, action and SciFi. I want more. I want more heroes, anti-heroes, heroines. More villains. More everything to do with those types of shows. The more post apocolyptic, the better. I live real, heartbreaking friendships, siblings, fun best friends. Just very tight, well developed relationships.
I think network TV is slowly balancing out. People scoff at CBS for being old skewing but most of their shows have the most well written relationships. Procedural or not. NCIS for me is like hot chicken soup in the dead of winter. It's good, soothing and comforting to watch.
ABC, I don't watch. It's basically a soap opera network. Nothing of any depth for me.
When True Blood and TVD ends, I hope to not see a cheesy vampire show for years, if ever. I don't want a gross one either. Beam Stoker did it right, with no sparkles, silly triangles and "I'm too pretty for this show" acting.
Ugh. Once I start typing I have to make myself stop. I really need to start a blog, even if no one reads it but me!

Sheldon and Olivia today. I'm so glad Melinda made it :-)))

  11. That's how I watched Nikita. I didn't watch from the start. I heard so many good things about it that I tried it an couldn't stop watching. All day long.

  12. This is torture!!!! I have to choose between Vincent and Sheldon and Olivia and Ichabod!
I voted for Olivia (because come on it's FRINGE!) but it was a hard vote and Yang, but still can't choose between Vincent and Sheldon :(

  13. TV Topic #1 - Show schedules

I tend to be a one episode a week TV viewer. I think it's because you couldn't binge TV for a large part of my TV watching existence. However I am coming around to the binge watching view of life. The biggest problem for it though is time. I think that shows with swift moving plots are the ones I enjoy more in a weekly format, while those with a more character focus or a lot of questions that never seem to get answered are in my binge pile. Two of the better new shows last year fall in opposite categories for me. Sleepy Hollow is much watch weekly fare, largely because of its plot twists. Quite frankly, I don't want to be spoiled when it comes to Sleepy Hollow so if I watch it weekly, that's not a problem. Plus I adore live tweeting this show. The fans are great to interact with. The blacklist on the other hand, I'm not worried about being spoiled and I find I start to weary of its non-answers if I have to wait a week in between episodes. When I marathoned it, I grew to love it again and felt less frustrated.

I try to watch TV live as much as I can. Again social media has a lot to do with it because I find I enjoy shows more when I live tweet them. It's like having a viewing party each week without the annoying chit chat and figuring out who's bringing the soda and chips. There are many shows which I like more because of the live tweet factor. However, with more and more shows debuting each week, and the ginormous numbers of networks, channels, etc., there is no way I can keep up live. I find myself always behind and streaming is a huge relief. It also helps when I'm trying to schedule podcasts or you know, real life stuff.

  14. TV Topic #2 -

I am actually really happy with the balance on TV these days. The one benefit of having a gazillion shows in all different places is that there seems to be something for everyone. While I still maintain that all reality shows must die, they are easily avoided and since most of my water cooler TV talk takes place on social media instead of at work I rarely feel like I can't get away from them. For awhile there was a dearth of sci fi and fantasy shows, but now there are so many that I cannot keep up with even just that genre. Not that I'm complaining because I would rather have too many then only 1 or 2 choices. I guess if pressed I would say that what I want to see more of is kick butt female characters who get to work with other kick butt female characters. There's simply not enough of them and when they do show up they tend to be the only female in a sea of male counterparts. Like we started talking about in yesterday's thread, there need to be more females talking about something other than males on TV.

  15. I watched like half of the season 1 finale (only because my mum was watching it) and the season 2 finale (intentionally, for some reason) and after that I went back and watched from the start. I watched 3.01 then dropped for a while then watched the ep where Michael lost his hand then dropped it for a while. Then I binged 3.02-3.15 to be caught up for 3.16 five days later.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Topics:

    1. I try to avoid bingeing and watch as many shows as possible as they air. If I miss an episode or if two shows air at the same time, I will watch the missed episodes online ASAP. The quicker the better. I don't like to be behind since I can have over 20 shows airing at once in the fall-spring season.

Summers are quite light, so I do sometimes binge watch past seasons and shows on DVD. Sometimes even during the fall-spring season on weekends, but with so little time, if I do it in the fall-spring season I don't usually finish watching. When I binge watch old stuff it's usually a quite unhealthy watching spell where I curl up all day trying to watch one more episode until it's 3am in the morning...so yeah, not a good idea to do that other than in the summer.

    2. I think there are too many procedurals doing the same thing (no unique spin to it - just murder, case, and solve, repeat every week).
However, I'll never complain about having too much sci-fi/fantasy on TV! My list of new fall shows to check out all belong to this category. It's my favorite because of the action and having a thing for superhuman powers and mind-bending time travel and anything unrealistic basically. I also love it cause I get to explore with the shows, non-human characters and their emotions/understanding about humans and relationships. Also love the tight friendships/family in these types of shows. Fellow brothers in arms and such.

I like kick ass characters (Nikita, John Reese) and can't get enough of them whether they are quiet or wear their hearts on their sleeves. All for being moody, fine with me, as long as a character's good. In the literal good vs. bad way and in the character is well written kind of way. Be smart (doesn't have to be obvious). Make sense. I love it. I tend to drool over good-looking guys (lol) but it takes a lot more than that for me to like a show and the characters. So much more...but it doesn't hurt. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  17. 1. Sheldon - I don't watch BatB.
    2. N/A - I don't watch either show.
    3. Cristina - I sadly think however she will be beaten out in this round. The GoT fandom is too big and strong!
    4. Walter White - While I didn't watch Breaking Bad, I would rather him go further than anyone that has to do with vampires/werewolves and the like.

    Topic-
    1. It depends on the show for me. I found last season with Bones that was a regular watch every week, that I preferred to wait for three or four episodes to pass then binge watch it. It was the same for the back half of Revenge, The Blacklist and Hawaii 5-0 (although, uni did get crazy busy as these shows were wrapping up with the finales and such). PLL, Orphan Black, Castle, Graceland, Arrow etc. I watch weekly. While it may not be on the day it airs, I have to watch them weekly, then re-watch a day or so the next episode airs. Arrow S2 has only just started airing here in Australia so I've been watching that again.

    2. I definitely watch more cop shows than anything. It's one of the things I've grown up with. I do/have watch(ed) Bones, NCIS (don't watch anymore), NCIS LA, Chicago PD, Major Crimes, Hawaii 5-0, The Blacklist, Graceland... I feel as though I'm missing more... Castle.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Chicago PD was one of new favorites last season. I do like to let a couple of show build up though before watching.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sometimes when a weekly show isn't on., I miss it too but these days I'm usually just happy to have a hole in my schedule. :-) I don't think I've done 10+ episodes in a day since we did the a season a day marathons of Supernatural. Those were exhausting. Now if I try to binge 6 episodes of one show at a time, my attention span starts wavering.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 1) Sheldon Cooper, The Big Bang Theory - Love the character and I don't watch BATB.

    2) Ichabod Crane, Sleepy Hollow - I love his character too! I've never watched Fringe either.

    3) N/A - I've only watched pieces of Grey's Anatomy and I never liked Cristina. I don't watch Game of Thrones.

    4) N/A - I don't watch TVD anymore but I never liked Damon. I've never watched Breaking Bad.

    Today's TV Topics:
    1) It depends on the show for me. Im usually binge-watching at least one show, either an old show I picked up (Pretty Little Liars atm, then Nikita after, thanks to Dahne for the suggestion!) or a current show I didn't care enough about to keep up. Teen Wolf I always live-stream (since im living in Ireland) because I interact with that fandom on social media a lot more. Some shows I always catch up on within 24 hours are OUAT, The 100, Sleepy Hollow, Dominion, The Last Ship, Penny Dreadful and a few others. Any others that I haven't put off for binge-watching I usually catch up on within 3 days.

    2) I love Sci-fi/fantasy shows which there are a lot of atm and even more on the way so yay for me :) I'd like to see more shows with depth and emotion too them such as Penny Dreadful. I don't think TV is that well balanced these days but right now it's tipped in my favour so imw not gonna complain!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Icahbod vs. Olivia is the only one in round 2 that gives me pause. Another case where I wish the numbers were different so they didn't meet so soon. My binge watching usually starts because I missed episodes too. In fact, I'm binge watching tomorrow to catch up on summer shows.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hey, Dahne you said it was going to get tuff, this is a wild round Olivia against Ichabod, Olivia is gonna to pull it out, I'm still a fan of BATB, I no Vincent doesn't have much of a chance but, he's such a terrific character

    ReplyDelete
  23. 1) Sheldon Cooper - Dont watch BATB

    2) Ichabod Crane - A tough decision for me I love both characters and both shows ,but Olivia wasn't my favorite on Fringe and Ichabod is in Sleepy Hollow so i went with him.

    3) Christina Yang - The choice was impossible to make i just couldn't choose between them , their both favorites of mine who both bring a lot to the TV show their on. I was thinking for about 10 minutes who to pick , so decided to let fate decide and flip a coin. It landed on Heads which was for Christina.

    4) Walter White - Although i haven't finished Breaking Bad and may never will the i like Walter , and also i haven't seen The Vampire Diaries.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Got to love the Teen Wolf live tweet fun. Missed you Monday. I would like to see more post-apocalyptic or even just future dystopia shows. I always find them fascinating. I too would be great with a moratorium on vampires. I was part way through The Strain when someone tweeted me they were vampires. I lost some of my enthusiasm, but it's such a different take that I'll watch the first 3 episodes at least.

No apologies for continuining the discussion no matter how long, but I think having a blog can be cathartic sometimes and other times it's just a fun way to get your ideas out.

    ReplyDelete
  25. So am I. I was worried about her.

    ReplyDelete
  26. If you think it's torture now, wait until we get farther along. I have had to resort to the coin flip in some contests. :-P

    ReplyDelete
  27. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I've enjoyed TLS :) If we have that many shows in common im sure I'll like Nikita :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Ha! I'll bet a bunch of us have bingewatched until the wee hours of the morning, probably sometimes when we really could nto afford to do so. (Raises hand for guilty.) I do tend to bingewatch more in summer because of that too.

I agree that sci fi shows tend to have great character bonds forged by the trials they face together. I think that's how I, who started out hating sci fi as a reader, ended up loving it as first a TV viewer and then a reader. Well except Madeleine L'Engle who was always fantastic. I also agree that kick butt characters are the best and there needs to be a lot more of them.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I think Cristina has probably gone as far as she will go too, but there are a whole lot of GA fans on Spoiler so if they show up, she might pull out a win.

It always puzzles me why in this day and age of internet, they don't have shows air more closely together all over the world instead of having fans wait 6-9 months. It seems like that only encourages pirating. I'd think show producers would want them to air sooner than later.

Graceland is a favorite of mine and I recently marathoned Major Crimes. I really like Sharona nd Rusty's relationship in that one.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Sheldon, Yang and Heisenberg!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Vincent is likely to win the entire contest, so I don't think you have much to fear from Sheldon. If he doesn't win this, I will be shocked. I'm not quite sure about Olivia and Ichabod though. While Olivia and Fringe have a lot of fans on SpoilerTV, it has also been off the air for awhile. Ichabod is on a new show and is a character that sticks out. I think this one will be close and honestly I have no idea who will come out on top.

    ReplyDelete
  32. That's what i am counting on. Nikita is definitely a kick butt female so it has that in its favor for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I just voted for Sheldon and Cristina. I'm a TVD fan, but I think it's time to vote Damon OFF the island.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I try to be realistic when I'm recommending shows so I don't lead soemone to something I know they will hate even if I adore it. Still I've been wrong plenty of times. I only hope they trust me enough to recommend something else next time.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Voting characters off the island. ha! That would have been a great TV Talk Topic.

    ReplyDelete
  36. That was kind of my reasoning behind choosing Ichabod over Olivia, although I would love for them both to move on. It was a hard decision that I actually mulled over as soon as I saw the brackets. I do love the coin toss strategy as well. It's my go to when choosing is just too hard.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Rabia Salvatore24 July 2014 at 02:41

Vincent, Ichabod, Damon! The choice between Vincent and Sheldon was easy and for the others I don't watch the shows they are up against!

    ReplyDelete
  38. If there's ever a poll about that, I'd want in on that action.

    ReplyDelete
  39. No contest for all 4 polls today for me. All easy choices. Sheldon, Olivia, Tyrion and Walter.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I am very tempted to be honest.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Personally, I don't like Sheldon's character, the girls on show have better characters. My opinion. Voted Vincent, Tyrion, and Walter. The actors do a great job portraying them

    ReplyDelete
  42. I try not to let my adoration lead me to recommending a show too.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Well, since almost all my brackets are shot now, most of my voting form here on out is for the one I know the best, not necessarily a favorite. So, today's picks: Sheldon, Ichabod, Tyrion and Walter.

    Today's Topics:
    1. I don't actually own a TV (haven't since 2004) so I watch everything online. Some shows I am forced to binge watch on Netflix/Amazon because they aren't available to stream thru Hulu or the station's website during the regular season (Lost Girl and Continuum are examples). Some I binge watch on DVD because they are not available to stream anywhere that I can find (GoT). Yet others I stalk Hulu waiting for the moment the new episode posts...these shows would include Arrow, The 100, AoS, Criminal Minds, and The Blacklist.

    2. I think there is still too much reality TV. I was never a huge fan of this genre but it just seems tired and overdone. Next in line would be the procedural type shows - I like some of these shows but for the most part they can get stale fast if there isn't eventually some sort of serialization to them.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Vincent Keller, Walter White and Cristina Yang

    ReplyDelete
  45. Olivia vs Ichabod is hard but Olivia is still my favorite female tv character.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I didn't read too much sci-fi/fantasy growing up. It was mostly animal adventure/family books. Horses especially. Had a few fairytale books also.

I got into TV fantasy like Charmed before I ever read something like it. Now fantasy/sci-fi is also pretty much all I read (with romance weaved in cause I'm a sucker for it - which is when I usually run into the dreaded triangle. Sigh.).

    ReplyDelete
  47. lostrocks4ever24 July 2014 at 03:40

    Easy for me today
Tyrion and Damon weren't up against anyone I know so that was simple
Although I do like ichabod in sleepy hollow, I love Olivia and miss fringe way too much to not vote for her

As for the topic; I'm not really too fussed about how I watch. I like to binge watch because I can watch a whole lot at once and it keeps me interested. But I also like to watch week by week as it comes out. It makes the suspense of a cliff hanger way more exciting which is how it's meant to be but it also means that me watching my favourite shows takes longer so it essentially feels like I have more of my show, even if it's still the same amount of episodes.
Binge watching is easy though. You're not dying for weeks or months to find out what happens or know who dies. And it can make it a lot easier to keep track of what's going on.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Too many undead shows, zombies, vampires, werewolves and gory shows. This culture's obsession with it should be in some sort of study. I don't binge watch and rarely on tv, I stream all shows online, which doesn't count towards ratings, even though I have to put up with commercials mpre so than TV watchers, they can DVR and skip them. I get very upset when they cancel good shows because of Nielson ratings. My online viewership should count.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Ichabod over Olivia????

    ReplyDelete
  50. Sheldon Cooper (there is a whole big soap box for me where Vincent Keller is concerned. :-),
Olivia Dunham (Peanut yelling "Dun Ham" is ringing in my ears) Love Ichabod but Olivia wins.
Tyrion Lannister - Such an interesting layered character. Well Christina is too but issues
I had with Grey's caused her to miss my vote this round
Damon Salvatore - One of the two reasons I keep trying to give Vampire Diaries a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I read everything as a kid, but I prefered mysteries. Sci fi back then was mostly aliens and I still have a hard time with alien stories now. Farscape and Stargate SG-1 did a lot to make me see that some alien stories not named Star Wars could be good.

    ReplyDelete
  52. FF.

that fast forward button is the best thing since sliced bread! I keep hitting that button when I watch live and it makes me nuts. So I'm less obsessive about watching shows live.

My shows are in tiers. I have a set of shows that I must watch the same day. Everything else I clean off the DVR when I feel like it. Because of SpoilerTV and my need to blather my opinion of episodes I make more of an effort to watch some shows within a week so I have a minor hope of someone reading my opinion. :-D

I try to keep my Sunday mornings for cleaning off the DVR. but when there are shows I re-watch (eg Teen Wolf) and that slows it down. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Most of my favs are out now too. I think I'll probably be doing a no vote more often, including the final. :-)

I can't imagine not owning a TV although I spend less time watching TV on the TV than on the computer these days. I agree on reality TV. I still blame Survivor for all the mess that came after. For me though I like a mixture of procedural and serialized because either get old for me if I have too much.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Agreed - unless Felicity, May or Dean somehow miraculously make it to the final found, I'll be abstaining from that vote. Next year - definitely doing two brackets!

I booted the TV when I returned to school. I will watch HGTV all day every day if left to my own devices! After I left school, it was just a habit that my penny pinching can't justify changing.

Survivor was what I had in mind when I mentioned the above....I watched a couple seasons of Dancing with the Stars because I used to Ballroom dance so I could relate to the show better but when I stopped dancing, I stopped watching. I watched the first season of American Idol but dropped that right away too. Just not my thing I guess.

I agree on the mixture - there are some shows that are so serialized that if you don't watch from the beginning, you will be hopelessly lost. I have a fair amount of shows like this that I watch but it's harder to get friends to watch the show when they realize that they can't just pick it up in S3.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Hopefully I will come up with a better plan for brackets by next year so everyone can see what others have picked. I have found it fascinating but I'm the only one who can see them.

I admire your restraint with your TV. No cable bill would mean more money, but I am addicted to the live tweet. I kind of separate reality TV from informational TV so I watch things on say HGTV, Food Channel, etc. but nothing I consider reality TV. I can see if you have a conenction to a show like dancing, but I will never understand why people watch shows were people are just trying to out-buffoon each other - The Jersey Shores and any show following D-List celebrities on stations liek VH-1.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Sheldon Cooper
    Ichabod Crane
    Tyrion Lannister
    Damon Salvatore

I love Cristina Yang so much, but Tyrion is the most amazing character on GOT for me.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Sheldon Cooper, Tyrion Lannister (he is one of my fav characters ever) and Walter White.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I am a huge fan of FF, even on shows I love even if I can only use it in the rewatch. I can completely relate to wanting to watch certain shows so that you can discuss them here. Sometimes that's the best thing about watching TV.

    ReplyDelete
  59. i cannot believe sheldon is losing :-(

    ReplyDelete
  60. SHIELDNCISArrowfan24 July 2014 at 06:04

lack of TBBT fans here and lot of BATB.......

    ReplyDelete
  61. Big Bang Theory Fans: You're Sheldon needs you! Vote! Vote! Vote!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I am a fan of supernatural shows, but I too am tired of certain ones. I am sick of vampires, zombies, and yes, any werewolves that aren't on Teen Wolf, but that's just because I fell in love with the show's pacing. As for Nielsen, well that won't be solved until advertisers agree to change it.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I completely understand anyone voting for Olivia. I think both are great choices. For me it some times takes awhile to determine what works best as a binge and what's best weekly. I agree that shows with frequent cliffhangers tend to be more weekly for me.

    ReplyDelete
  64. While TBBT is the biggest show on network TV, it rarely does well on SpoilerTV. For some reason there are fewer comedy fans here than drama, unless it is HIMYM.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Sheldon, Olivia and Cristina.

I prefer weekly watching so that I can avoid spoilers. If several shows air the same day, and a show I watch with my family is involved, what we watch that night mostly depends on what my father feels like haha. If it's just me and usually watch them all in a row! I have to watch the most intense last though, otherwise I can't concentrate on whatever I watch next! For example, on Tuesdays, I watch Chicago Fire first, and then AoS. Generally drama takes precedence over comedies.

As much as I would love to watch live and live tweet I can't because I'm not in the US. I could watch live if I woke up at 6 in the morning...but I'm not that desperate. In way I also consider it a blessing in disguise. With so many shows going against each other, I would have a hard time deciding to what to watch live and what to what to DVR! Like The Bridge and Graceland both air at 10!

Social media wise, I watch shows I'm more likely to get spoiled about on twitter first.

I'm pretty happy with the TV situation these days. People hate that there are so many crime shows and formula shows, but I love it. They're generally my favourite genre.

  66. Damn - Vincent Keller is about to throw Sheldon Cooper out of this competition, and by a landslide, too. Someone should use this specific poll for an article about how online fandoms are so incredibly far from representing a show's domestic ratings. I mean, if you look at these two shows' ratings and compare them to the numbers on the poll above... holy shit.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Oh heavens NO. It's the character I hated the most during the first few episodes. Caroline.

    ReplyDelete
  68. 1- I don't watch the Big Bang Theory or BATB but if I really have to choose, I'm picking Sheldon.
2- Damn! I love Fringe and Olivia, but as a character I'm choosing Ichabod. He's such a funny and touching character.
3- Tyrion of course! Altough Cristina will always be my favorite character in Grey's.
    4- Walter.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Walter White, Ichabod Crane, Sheldon Cooper and Tyrion Lannister for me !
That must be the first time I voted for 4 characters :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. i m seeing a lack of good comedy shows nowadays. 90s comedy shows like friends and sinefield. i miss the moments when i watch a show and laugh my eyes out.

    ReplyDelete
  71. they r everywhere

    ReplyDelete
  72. Olivia, Tyrion and Walter

    ReplyDelete
  73. 1. N/A

    2. Icabod Crane- I'm only half way through seaon 1 of Fringe. Coin toss.

    3. Tyrion

    4. Walter White.\

    ReplyDelete
  74. Sheldon, Ichabod, Tyrion and Damon Salvatore of course.

  77. I keep seeing people talking, about there being too many zombie shows on tv. When in actuality, there is only two. The Walking Dead & In The Flesh. Les Revenants & Resurrection are living breathing people back from the dead, not zombies. ITF had only 6 episodes last season, and 3 in it's first season. That's not oversaturation. Yes there are two more coming, in the next year or so. But it took 5 years of TWD, to get there.

Vampires on the other hand, had 5 series in the last year. I tried The Vampire Diaries & The Originals, they weren't for me. I never got around to Being Human. I do watch The Strain, i like how it's presented. I'm watching the final season of True Blood, it's ok. I had dropped it early in season 4, but watched season 6, and found it alright.

I too liked Teen Wolf's pacing, but recently dropped it. Bitten got better towards the end of the season, so i'll give it a few more episodes before deciding. And talking about oversaturation, get ready for demons to be the new vampires. Supernatural, Constantine are already set. But Priest, Robert Kirkman's Outcast, Gary Oldman's The Diabolic, Damion (The Omen, are coming. Even The Exorcist, is trying to sell a series to tv.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Had it of been Walter or maybe Peter i might have voted differently.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I binge-watch because I'm so invested in them that I couldn'y possibly get bored.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Went with Olivia Dunham (so sorry Ichabod) and Tryion!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Sleepy Hollow is the only one of these shows I have seen, so Ichabod Crane gets my vote.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I fell out of love for Tyrion and whole Lannister family last season, I hate Damon and don't watch the rest of shows so no vote.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Hi Ragul, correct me if I'm wrong but I thought you were a BatB fan yourself? So why are you surprised?

    ReplyDelete
  84. Disappointing to see Sheldon lose to whoever that guy is. To have someone on the least watched show beat sometime from the most watched show doesn't make sense to me. And Walter White is one of the greatest TV characters of all time so it sucks to see him losing.

    ReplyDelete
  85. :-) I have found that even shows I really like lose my attention if I am at them for 8 hours or so. I think it is because I watch so much TV.

    ReplyDelete
  86. If it had been Walter, definitely for me. Peter, probably.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Oh no. I just got that song out of my head and now you're determned to put it right back in. I will resist you! Nah, nah, nah,I can't hear you.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I agree that Sheldon is the least developed character on TBBT. I hope that this trip off by himself will inspire great change and the character will be refreshed instead of stale for the next season.

    ReplyDelete
  89. For me it'e not just TV that creates oversaturation. As a librarian, it is also YA books of which many of these have become very popular. It also helps that I have never been a fan of zombies so all The Walking Dead publicity and general conversation makes that show feel like 3. To be honest, the only demon characters I have ever liked are Crowley and Meg on SPN so I have a feeling I will be weary of them sooner than later too. I want unique monsters that don't feel over played. The nogitsune was a good example.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Ha! This makes me laugh even if I did choose Ichabod over Olivia.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I haven't found anyone on SpoilerTV with much good to say about Stefan. Is he even still a main character? In the first season, the only two characters I liked at the end were Caroline and Matt.

    ReplyDelete
  92. And we are glad they are here. All shows welcome.

    ReplyDelete
  93. My problem is that all the great comedy shows I like get cancelled, with the exception of The Goldbergs. Both Enlisted and Surviving Jack had me laughing until I was crying but now they are gone. So sad.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I also use social media to gage which shows I need to watch first. There are many shows that I am just fine with being spoiled by, but a handful that I really do not want to know in advance. Those shows I almost always watch as close to live as I can. I also tend to push comedies to the end of the week, mostly because I can review them a whole lot quicker.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I think that instead of looking at ratings, you have to look at demographics more carefully. While both shows skew older than most people would think, my guess is that TBBT is in line with most CBS demographics meaning that it skews very old. Typically the older a show skews the least number of people are online for it. More importantly though, TBBT is a comedy which rarely sparks as much passion in viewers, especially since it isn't on the cutting block. An hour-long drama, especially one with a romance focus, is always going to inspire more loyal fans. Add in that SpoilerTV has never had much of a TBBT audience despite its numbers and given how much people rag on it here, it is not in the least surprising that Sheldon is losing. In fact, I had him losing by a lot more to be honest.

    ReplyDelete
  96. There are of course a lot of factors, but two stick out more than international for me. 1. Comedies rarely do well on SpoilerTV, especially in contests. 2. TBBT fans do not have to worry about their show being cancelled anytime soon. Shows on the chopping block tend to have fans who are more likely to do things like vote in polls to get the word out about their shows.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Well, Matt appears in some episodes and not very much, and Caroline has turned into the girl she was back in season 1, an annoying little girl who wants the best for her and she is very judgy about Damon. The only character improvements have been Damon, Bonnie and Elena.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I chose Ichabod as well, but if he has to lose I'm glad it is to Olivia. I can't wait to see what modern conveniences he has issue with next season. Plus we really need more sticky notes.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Awesome. I'm glad there were 4 characters you like.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Fringe season 2 picks up more so hang in there. I really liked the first season but I know a lot of people found it rocky.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Thanks for adding a picture. We are going to have plenty to choose from for round 3, and I don't have to find them. Woo hoo!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Ha! I wouldn't binge watch procedurals. But serialised shows (Lost, Breaking Bad and currently Prison Break) are ones that I literally cannot not binge. I don't lose attention because I'm enjoying them so much, and because I can use my tablet for FB, Twitter etc. while I'm watching and multitask.

    ReplyDelete
  103. American Gods, like Gaiman American Gods, is coming? How did I miss that?

I tend to like marathoning shows I've already seen weekly as well, especially before a new season. It does help give a more overall view of things that gets me in the right mind set for a show coming back. Generally it ramps up my excitement as well.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Internet polls have nothing to do with ratings and everything to do with fandoms. While TBBT has a whole lot of viewers, it also has a lot of casual viewers and older viewers who have never been online about a TV show in their lives. It's the same reason why characters on shows like NCIS tend to do poorly in polls like this too. On the other hand, shows that are in danger of cancellation often have the most passionate fandoms because they are fighting to keep their shows alive in the only way they know how - internet exposure, which includes polls. Those fandoms tend to be better organized and their fans tend to check out sites that post things like polls on a daily basis so they can do their part to publicize the show. There was no way Sheldon was ever going to win this poll. It would have been the biggest upset of the entire contest. Especially when SpoilerTV has a lot of people who outright hate TBBT and Sheldon in particular. I think that if it had been another character, the vote would be a little closer but Vincent would still win by over 60%.

While you consider Walter White one of the greatest characters and a lot of critics would agree with you, that is still very much a subjective thing. There are many people who have never seen Breaking Bad and even some who have and didn't like Walter. I'm sorry your favorite character is currently losing but instead of sour grapes, how about tell us why you like the character? Why should we like the character? What were the best Walter White character moments? That's a whole lot more fun to discuss.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I don't watch GoT but I am curious as to why you fell out of love with the Lannisters. I haven't heard many people do anything but laud them.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Ha! That definitely makes things easier. I think that's how it's going to be for me by round 4.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Walter, Walter, Walter, and Walter. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  108. No, i meant coin toss between Icabod and Olivia. I love Fringe, but watched about as many eps, as i did with Sleepy Hollow.

    ReplyDelete
  109. HA! I can't wait to see him learning to drive! :D Also I hope we'll get another scene with Yolanda, this one was so funny.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Yolanda may be the very best scene of TV I watched last season. Just perfect. I think watching him learn to drive will be funny as well.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I understand what you mean. Movies and games too. It does feel oversaturated. TWD's popularity, also creates a lot of conversation.

Funny thing, i was never a big fan of zombies either. But The Walking Dead, is my favorite current show. But the show only uses zombies a plot device. The real story is about human survival after a disaster.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Got it. Coin toss is one of my favorite ways to vote.

    ReplyDelete
  113. So I think what you are saying is you think Walter is okay enough to vote for. :-P

    ReplyDelete
  114. Multitasking does make it easier for me to binge watch. Since I am usually taking notes or live tweeting during shows these days, I find it hard to just watch TV these days.

    ReplyDelete
  115. That's a shame. I hate when characters devolve instead of evolve.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Dahne, I guess you're right. You know these kind of things as an admin on here. And yes, as BatB fans we have to do everything possible to promote the show. If I'm correct you know all about that (cancellation worries) from SPN in the first seasons. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Yeah, but all shows have international fan bases, although I guess some more than others. It's just strange that character from a ratings behemoth like TBBT has less than 600 votes on this poll.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Supernatural stories are usually better when they are about the human existence too and not just fighting monsters. For me the best thing about Buffy was the high school as hell metphor that ran throughout the first 3 seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I know it skews old in general like all CBS shows, but doesn't it have the highest 18-49A numbers on network TV? I'm just surprised there isn't much of a TBBT fandom here. But you're right about how being a drama, romance-centric and a bubble show all translate into a passionate fandom and all of these only apply to BatB.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Loved Lost and Prison Break. But watched them on a weekly basis on Dutch TV, although with these shows it was hard to have to wait for a week every time. Would've been great to binge watch them.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I think TBBT has the highest numbers in all demos on network TV. :-) But yes, it is the highest rated scripted network TV show by a long shot. Still on SpoilerTV I rarely hear anyone laud it because they are too busy talking about it being an overhyped show that takes away demo ratings from their favorite shows. Overall it feels more hate and apathetic than kudos for TBBT here.

    ReplyDelete
  122. My guess is that international fan bases are not as disimilar as people think and rarely a main factor in renewal/cancellation. However voting international fan bases are going to be as skewed as they are domestically.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Well, to be honest after Joffrey's death all of characters became neutral to me. Jaime was heading nowhere. At first he was good, then he raped his sister next to his son's corpse and acted as nothing happened. Cersei was poor version of Cersei. She became really annoying with this daddy-why-oh-why-don't-you-see-that-I'm-your-best-son attitude. Tywin was plain boring and Tyrion was one big drama queen with his Shae shenanigans.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I am not an admin on SpoilerTV. That's Andy, the owner. I'm just a writer, hellatus poll creator, and prolific commentator. However because I have been following STV trends since I started here, I have seen a lot of passionate fandoms rise and fall in popularity. Generally being ratings-challenged is a factor. Romance is another. I actually started at STV by defending Supernatural from some of the same things you guys are fighting for BatB, so yes, I understand your plight. Sadly it has become the fan's job to be the major promotional venue online instead of the studio or network's, and fandoms that are fighting for their show's life have the most incentive.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Egads! I can see why you're losing interest in them.

    ReplyDelete
  126. You, made me LOL to funny thanks I needed that:-)

    ReplyDelete
  127. All four characters I have voted are losing :(

    ReplyDelete
  128. Walter White and Tyrion Lannister are both some of my absolute favorite characters ever on tv, so they get my vote. Olivia was also fantastic on Fringe, and though I would rather have seen Walter in the poll, ofcourse Olivia get´s my vote.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Yes, I am glad too :)

    ReplyDelete
  130. I can't choose ;( Tyrion? Cristina? This one is tough. In the end I voted for Cristina, had a feeling Tyrion will be just fine.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I have been known to wear my emotions on my sleeve from time time time.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I was never into Star Wars though I've seen a couple newer movies. I quite like Star Trek thanks to getting into the latest movies.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Sorry. I think that will be a regular thing for me in these upcoming days too.

    ReplyDelete
  134. It does get tougher the closer we get to the end. I find myself giving votes to characters I know are going to lose just to boost them up and make it closer.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I wish it were Walter as well. Next year I might have to campaign for him. :-) But still Olivia is representing Fringe well.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Vincent, Tyrion and Walter. Haven't seen the other 2 so I can't vote. Vincent is a great beast/human and Tyrion is the best in GOT and Walter character is just awesome. I watch TBBT, but it's started wearing thin on me a few years ago, no longer watch it.I always found Sheldon character annoying, like the girls characters better, esp. Amy and Bernadette.

    ReplyDelete
  137. I voted for Vincent and for Walter. I could never stand Sheldon character. As for the man beast, he is also quite funny and although it has low US ratings, it is a big hit worldwide and BatB has a huge twitter following. So once it hits twitter, all beasties are voting. Besides, just because they only gauge a show by Nielsonratings doesn't mean there are no viewers. I watch this show online and not on TV, I have to watch commercials and yet my viewership doesn't count, how is that fair. Let's just say, more and more people are not watching a lot of their shows on TV. That is why they are starting to use social media to guage some of the show's ratings. Neilson is now also using a formula to complement tv ratings using social media. The world is a big place, advertisers are international companies and now not only the US are buying their products. It's been over 50 years since Nielson installed the "boxes" time to move with the times. If you noticed, a lot of low ratings shows got renewed this year on several networks not just BatB. Why, because they use twitter activity to establish another viewing audience other than TV. Sorry Ralph, I'm going on and on.

    ReplyDelete
  138. See reply to Ralph

    ReplyDelete
  139. I watch both shows, and I voted Vincent, I love the character and to be honest out of all the characters on tbbt, I dislike Sheldon's the most. It's a matter of pref. not how popular a show is.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I never was a Shatner fan so for me Star Trek starts with Next Generation.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I know batb has a huge social media following and maybe tbbt does not. Once the poll hits twitter, all beasties are voting from US to China. Actually, batb has one of the highest social media activity out there. It's not just me talking, it can be verified. Neilson is now using social media to guage a show's following, which is why alot of low ratings shows got renewed this year on a lot of networks.

    ReplyDelete
  142. I watched quite a bit of Next Generation episodes after I really got into the new movies and decided to check out the old series. It was interesting. I haven't felt the yearning to watch any of the movies though.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I stopped watching tbbt 3 years ago and dont even miss it. For me, a show that runs longer than 6 or 7 years gets tiring. Stopped watching SPN 3years ago to, same reasons. The possessions by various parties, demons, leviathons, angels over and over got too much for me.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I bet there is a website out there somewhere that will allow brackets to be uploaded and results tracked - like the online Fantasy Football games?? - the only problem is finding one that doesn't cost anything.

I have to admit that the last couple of years without a TV have been more difficult - mostly because I am watching more TV. I think the only thing that has stopped me was going back to school again. I should be done by the end of the year though so I may cave and get myself a TV as a graduation present!

Informational TV like HGTV or the Food Channel are so addicting! Shows like Jersey Shore and Real Housewives will be the downfall of this generation! I can feel my IQ drop just watching a commercials!

    ReplyDelete
  145. Thanks so much for this. I tend to dislike Starz for all its gratuitous nudity and violence so that has me worried, but I will definitely check out the pilot.

    ReplyDelete
  146. That's what I have been looking for. I want something free and preferably embeddable. Plus people have to be able to use it without making their own account because that turns people off from participating quicker than anything.

I gave myself a new TV this summer as an early birthday present. Mostly it was because the picture went out on my old one and listening to just the sound wasn't cutting it. The one bad thing about watching MTV live is that you have all the ads for Teen Wolf 38.5 and Ridiculous marathon #952. That's enough to make me weep for the future. Add in people who are still so internet stupid that they qualify for Catfish.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Personally I think you are good to skip the movies but I know a lot of fans who would disagree.

    ReplyDelete
  148. LOL...the biggest downfall to watching online streaming the next day is that the ads repeat over and over again. So during the 45 minutes of Criminal Minds, I see the same Toyota commercial 12 times - and if there's music or a jingle associated with the commercial, it's in my head for days!

True - making a new account has caused me to avoid online activities too. It's actually the reason it took me so long to start commenting on STV even though I have been coming here for new for years.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Don't get me wrong I like the show here and there .but I like big bang much more

    ReplyDelete
  150. Enlisted is still sitting on my wanna watch list

    ReplyDelete
  151. Yeah I get really paranoid about spoilers! But I still want to check my twitter because I hate falling behind. It's a cruel cycle. For now I've filtered out anything from the official Graceland twitter account till I catch up

    ReplyDelete
  152. I was able to live tweet Graceland for the first time this week. Usually we are doing the Teen Wolf podcast at that time, but Lilith is lucky enough to be at Com-Con this week.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I highly recommend it. It made me laugh so hard and still touched my heart. The Hill brothers are golden.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I finally got rid of Hulu Plus because of that. Couldn't believe I was paying to watch the same thing over and over again. It got so bad that when I participated in a survey about the advertising I actually told the advertisers that I was sick of their product by the end of the show and that it would be better for them if different ads were included.

    ReplyDelete
  155. I'm not a Stefan hater. In fact I've generally preferred him with Elena than Damon. I like a guy who respects a woman enough to listen to her and abide by her decisions. My theory is that the biggest problem with Stefan is that he was initially created as the perfect guy. When they did the inane Evil Stefan story it was because the actor was bored. (they tried to make him a heinous character and at the same time leave an opening to return him to the good guy) The bulk of my problems with Vampire Diaries are writing related more than character related.

    ReplyDelete
  156. I can't blame the actor. Generally the snarky bad boy has more fun. I do agree that if people are going to get together it is much better to choose the one that actually respects you.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Fun! Sometimes I fake live tweet haha. How exciting!!! I finally managed to sign up for their membership. They make it incredibly hard to get tickets!! But I will get there one day! I was in London when they had the May MCM Comic Con, but the only people I knew there were Red and Granny from OUAT and Beast Boy from Teen Titans...

    ReplyDelete
  158. Wow. Disappointed Walter White didn't make the cut this round. But look how close it was.

    ReplyDelete
  159. OK Ragul, get it. Because I was pretty sure I see you now and then on Twitter. I liked both seasons except the Gaberine thingy like you call it. VinCat is stronger now but I would´ve preferred them to get there without love triangles. But that´s over now, I really liked the last 8 eps. Love the humor in these last eps. I have a good feeling about S3, they know now what works and what doesn´t. I hope they will combine the best things of both seasons. I hope you will like it again :)

    ReplyDelete
  160. It made for a great, exciting round. I'm hoping all future days have an equally exciting one.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Voted Vincent too, I'm hooked on a TV show for the first time in my life and that's on BatB. But that's not the only reason. He's a great character who changed very much this season but evolved to an even better character. I love Vincent 3.0 and I have to say kudos to Jay Ryan for portraying these totally different characters. And he's great in doing the drama part as well the romance part and he has great comedic timing. He doesn't get enough credits for his acting skills in my opinion. Probably has something to do with being on a CW show? People tend to assume things too much I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Maria, I totally agree. Couldn't have said it better. And yes, 'whoever that other guy' Vincent is funny too! I love the character.

    ReplyDelete
  163. I keep saying I am going to SDCC, but the tickets always go on sale while I am teaching.

    ReplyDelete
  164. :-) Glad I created one too - I've had more fun discussing TV in the last four months than I have in the previous five years combined!

Hulu has gotten a little better - most of the shows now allow me to chose which commercial I want to watch each time...it's the same three choices every time but that's better than the same one over and over again. Watching directly from CBS' website is the worst - I watch several CBS shows and it seems that there is only one commercial per day so I get the same commercial for all five shows I watch.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Commenting really adds something to the TV watching experience. I'm surprised CBS hasn't learned to vary commercials yet. Not cool.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Sigh, real life is so cruel sometimes.
