I always love these Lost polls. There has been no other show that was so much fun disgussing after every episode aired. Locke, Ben and Saywer were my 3 favorites.
LoL,just last night i popped in the dvr and watched the pilot once again! No matter how many times i watch this show it never gets old and always fills me with delight... I cannot begin to express just how much i miss this show.. My favorites have always changed at one time or another but i always come back to.. Ben Locke and Hurley!
Juliet was by far the best female, dark, complicated, bad ass with a good heart who died a hero. Kate was beyond annoying and kept on playing with every man in life, her ex basically died because of her. How she has any fans on here is beyond me.
I have only recently gotten into Lost, so I don't know half the characters yet. But I'm surprised to see Sawyer on top, I am not a big fan of his character yet. I'm still only halfway through season 1 though so maybe his character improves. So far, I like Locke, Hurley and Jack.
Sawyer definitely grows on you. He was much hated first three season (except maybe with some ladies) but his character arc is actually pretty awesome. A very important character in Lost. Enjoy the rest of your viewing. :)
Didn't Sawyer fall madly in love with Juliet? In less than three years, no less? I hardly think that is "undying". Interesting that you walk away with that perception when the writers showed us that Juliet was his greatest love.
Uh.. no, I did not see Sawyer as "madly in love" with Juliet. He "settled" for her. The writers "told" us Juliet was his greatest love. But they didn't "show" us. Their "three years" happened during a commercial break. And Sawyer was clearly still in love with Kate when she returned to the island. When Bernard said something about wanting to be with his true love, Juliet looked at Sawyer, but Sawyer looked at KATE. You say I "should" love Suliet because that's the "canon OTP". But that doesn't jive with what I saw over 6 seasons. Oh yeah, Sawyer was crushed when Juliet died, he said he was going to marry her .. well, who else would he marry?! As Josh Holloway put it, "what's he gonna do, mate with a polar bear?" Juliet was the only girl around. Sawyer wooed her because he didn't want to be alone. No, I do not see them as a great love. But I'm not trying to convince you (I'm guessing you never liked "Skate" and were always a "Jater"), just telling you my perspective.
"And Sawyer was clearly still in love with Kate when she returned to the island."
Really? I missed that press release. I am sure he had some unresolved feelings, but being "in love" with someone he knew for a couple of months and who was unwilling to commit to him kinda makes him a chump.
Sawyer slept with Kate three times over the span of 10 days more or less - and you equate that with true love? Maybe if you're sixteen years old.
"Holloway put it, "what's he gonna do, mate with a polar bear?"
Josh Holloway also said in that exact same interview that Juliet was Sawyer's "first loving relationship". Ouch! That says it all about Skate. And you know why? Because Kate was in love with Jack.
Sawyer and Juliet were amazing together and she gave him what Kate was incapable of giving him and that was her heart (which belonged to someone else). Sawyer and Juliet had a real relationship built on love and respect.
Well, going strictly by "logic" you are right, but who ships that way? LOL. Kate was in love with Sawyer. That's the way I saw it. By the end of Season 1, he was the one she was thinking about. When he got on that boat, she was so sad because she didn't get to say goodbye. In Season 2, she was desperately looking through the messages in the bottle for one from Sawyer. When he returned, she nursed him back to health. The reason she kissed Jack was because she was upset about Sawyer saying "Why did you kill me?" You could see she was horrified at herself for using Jack that way. I know Kate loved Jack, too. She could have been happy married to him. And Sawyer could have lived out a contented existence with Juliet. But she and Sawyer had that special connection, that spark, and I truly believe they reconnected when they got off the island. You can't convince me otherwise. I don't care what we saw in the "afterlife". I choose to ignore that. LOL
LOL. Kate never even told Sawyer that she loved him. What are you talking about?
"But she and Sawyer had that special connection, that spark, and I truly believe they reconnected when they got off the island."
If you would watch other scenes besides Skate, you would see that Jack and Kate were destined for one another. It actually took a plane crash for them to meet. There was never a sense of inevitability with Skate. They could have easily hooked up in the criminal underworld. Kate met Cassidy, so not a stretch she could have met Sawyer.
I don't care what you think happened off the island, tbh. You have convinced yourself that Kate was in love with Sawyer and not Jack. So your credibility goes out the window.
"In Season 2, she was desperately looking through the messages in the bottle for one from Sawyer. When he returned, she nursed him back to health. The reason she kissed Jack was because she was upset about Sawyer saying "Why did you kill me?"
"Desperately"? Kate looked through the bottle and felt bad for not saying good-bye. There was an attraction there, but if it were Jack on the raft, she would have looked for a letter from him too. You know when Kate was desperate? When she was rescuing Jack from the cave-in. Going back to the Others to get Jack back. When she desperately slept with Sawyer after her flirtation was rejected by Jack. That is what Kate looks like when she is desperate.
She kissed Jack because she wanted to kiss him. Very simple. Try watching some Jate scenes, so you can get the whole picture. And she wanted to kiss him a few times afterwards, but they kept getting interrupted.
Kate never told Jack she loved him, either, until the VERY end. That was the big mystery everybody wanted to know, who does Kate love? Jack or Sawyer? There was even a place online where you could place your bets. Sawyer had slightly better odds than Jack. There were lots of hints that Sawyer was the one. Kate was desperate when Sawyer was being tortured and threatened with death in the cage! She said she loved him, yelled it! Then she took it back, lol. But her actions spoke louder than words. She had a chance to escape, but instead she got in that cage with Sawyer and we all know what happened next. Then when he asked her if she loved him, she smiled and kissed him. And all Season 6, she was chasing after Sawyer. Until the last few episodes. We had lots of reasons to think Skate might be endgame. "15" and "51" anyone? I could go on and on, but you are just as fixed in your Jate love as I am with my Skate. :)
I understand you are disappointed that Kate was in love with Jack and not Sawyer. And Sawyer loved Juliet more than Kate. Things didn't turn out the way you wanted which was bound to happen to some fans in this situation.
Sawyer had a gun pointed to his head. She would have shouted ILY if it were Jack, Sayid or even Hurley in that situation.
"All" of season 6 she was "chasing" after Sawyer? LOL. She went to find him ONCE. And Jack would have joined her too if it wasn't for the fact that Sawyer wanted to kill him for taking away the love of his life: Juliet. Kate was worried about him, understandably. The man was devastated and suicidal. Kate asked him to help her find Claire and he wasn't interested in doing anything for Kate. He wanted to grieve in peace.
And just watch "The Candidate", Kate's frantic "I couldn't find you!" There was no ambiguity there, she was worried about finding one man and that was Jack, meanwhile an unconscious Sawyer didn't so much get a second glance. At least in "LAX" she did glance at him lying unconscious before seeing Jack, but ran to check on Jack first anyway.
And there were many "hints" that Jack was the one too. As a matter of fact, it was set up from their very first scene together. And that first scene is brought up all the time to show the audience that they share a deep bond. You probably missed all these hints though because by your own words you don't "rewatch" Jate or Suliet. It really doesn't matter how much you can go on and on about Skate. It was a love triangle/quadrangle, there will always be hints at all possibilities. But Kate was in love with Jack, they were living together and she wanted to marry him. Of course, she loved him. And it's easy to deduce that Kate had told him that she loved him during this period. Their shared ILYs were re-affirmations that they still loved each other after all the pain they had suffered through.
Although Kate may have loved Sawyer and they helped each other become the people they wanted to be so they could find the kind of love they truly desired and deserved, she wasn't in love with him the way she was with Jack. And the writers were saving the big ILY for Jate. And even though it came at the very end, it was a confirmation of what was there all along. It all came full circle. The imagery is clear on that.
Skate was fun to watch and it was beautiful to see their relationship evolve into one of friendship.
And the writers agree with you. So be happy. I have my own ideas about what happened and what I saw unfolding onscreen. I did not imagine it, others saw it (and are seeing it, as new viewers watch it on Netflix and DVD). And that's the show I love and rewatch. I don't really care for your version, lol.
What do you mean "my" version? And the writers agree with me? It's not my show, it's their show and I agree with them. And no one is saying that you are imagining it. The triangle was a subplot that existed throughout the show. But, ultimately, Kate had her preference as did Sawyer and it wasn't each other. Most viewers expected that Jack and Kate would end up together, it really can't come out of left field for you. You must have prepared yourself for that likely outcome while you were watching the show. I always knew there was a chance for Skate - granted I thought it was maybe a 5% shot. But I wouldn't have said that the writers blindsided me with that result. And I am VERY happy, so don't worry about that!
Well, if you're so happy, then why do you care if I liked the show for a different reason than you did? And of course I knew there was a possibility of Jate. I didn't mind that so much because Kate and Jack actually had a history from the beginning of the show, just like Skate did. Suliet? THAT was a joke. Sorry, that's JMO.
I AM happy. You're the one that posted inaccurate nonsense about Sawyer's "undying" love for Kate. How do you not expect to receive a comment?
"Suliet? THAT was a joke. Sorry, that's JMO."
Then why are they so damn popular? They are a fan favorite. Maybe you just have a personal need for Sawyer to fill a certain fantasy archetype for you that has nothing to do with the way the character was intended to evolve and grow over the course of the show. Juliet was perfect for Sawyer. You don't like it, but it doesn't make it a joke. It's just your personal disappointment.
Why were Suliet so popular? I can think of several reasons. 1) Elizabeth Mitchell has a large fan following as does Josh now 2) Fans hated Kate by this time because of her waffling between the two men, but Sawyer was still popular 3) Fans were tired of the triangle and just wanted to get it over with 4) fans who weren't already invested in Skate took the "three years" literally AND took what Sawyer said literally and didn't "read between the lines" like Skate fans did. For instance, when Sawyer looked at KATE instead of Juliet during Bernard's speech. Juliet called him on it. He said "I don't care who I looked at. I'm with YOU." Notice he said "I'm WITH you, not "I love you". We Skate fans noticed things like that. Others didn't.
". We Skate fans picked up on things like that. Most everybody else didn't. 6) Jate fans."
Ok, so why do your listed reasons for their popularity make them a "joke"? I think you are trying really hard to undermine Suliet. That "look" meant nothing, the way he looked at Juliet as Jack dropped the bomb. The way he reacted as she was being dragged down the shaft. There was no doubt who he loved. Compare that with his reaction when he thought Kate may have died on the freighter. You can't compare. Basically, whatever residual feelings he had for Kate were pretty much erased when he saw what he had and lost with Juliet. I think this is all very obvious.
Don't forget that moments before, he was encouraging Jack to go and make up with Kate. And Sawyer was more than happy to leave Kate behind on he Island and leave with Juliet on the sub.
"For instance, when Sawyer looked at KATE instead of Juliet during Bernard's speech."
So what? Kate wasn't looking at Sawyer. She looked thoughtful, I bet I know who she was thinking about and it wasn't Sawyer.
Sawyer and Juliet were together long enough to fall in love , live together and he wanted to marry her. That's undeniable.
"People fell for the sappy "sunflower" routine. If you noticed, Sawyer gave that same sunflower to his one-night-stand, Charlotte, in the alternate universe. Shows how much it meant to him." Sawyer spent plenty of time with Kate in the alternate universe, e was tackling her even and she was even behind bars (LOL) and none of that was enough to trigger a flash or memory between them, I guess that shows how much they meant to each other on the island and then afterwards. Meanwhile with jack and Kate they were experiencing flashes of recognition, outside the airport and when she finally touches him on the face. Sawyer and Juliet are with each other for about a minute in the AU and hey remember each other and are making out.
I don't think Suliet happening is a joke, I mean, Sawyer was alone on the island, he needed somebody. He didn't think Kate was coming back. So he persuaded Juliet to stay (I can just imagine how he did that). Sawyer was very good at seducing the ladies. BUT, Sawyer "flashing" with Juliet WAS a joke, and that's because of one scene in Season 1. "I Never". Sawyer said "I've never been in love". He had to tell the truth. So .. at age 35, he finally fell in love for the FIRST time, with Kate. That makes her pretty special. It doesn't make sense that, after finally falling in love after all those years, that he would then turn around and fall in love with somebody ELSE, a few months later. As for Kate&Sawyer not having flashes of recognition, au contraire, there were plenty of "almosts" .. Sawyer commented "looks like somebody's trying to put us together!" .. and they "almost" recognized each other behind those bars. Kate&Jack didn't flash together, either, don't forget, it was Aaron for her and the coffin for him. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
Well Jen, that's your opinion and the opinion of countless Jaters and Sulieters, I am sure. I can see you've really thought this out logically and sensibly. But I ship based on the way a couple makes me FEEL. The chemistry between Evie & Josh. It was something to behold. And I just didn't feel anything when I saw Jate or Suliet. But the love and longing was there on Josh's face whenever Sawyer looked at Kate. And their theme song played. And that's what appealed to me. Have a good weekend. :)
Well Viv, I guess I am just lucky that I got to FEEL and behold the couple that was actually meant to be . The way Kate and Jack looked at each other, supported one another that was something else. Have a good weekend!

ReplyDeleteSawyer's undying love for Kate is what made me love him the most <3
ReplyDeleteDidn't Sawyer fall madly in love with Juliet? In less than three years, no less? I hardly think that is "undying". Interesting that you walk away with that perception when the writers showed us that Juliet was his greatest love.
ReplyDeleteUh.. no, I did not see Sawyer as "madly in love" with Juliet. He "settled" for her. The writers "told" us Juliet was his greatest love. But they didn't "show" us.
ReplyDeleteLOL. If anything, Juliet "settled" for Sawyer.
ReplyDelete"And Sawyer was clearly still in love with Kate when she returned to the island."

ReplyDeleteWell Jen, that's your opinion and the opinion of countless Jaters and Sulieters, I am sure. :)
ReplyDeleteWell Viv, I guess I am just lucky that I got to FEEL and behold the couple that was actually meant to be . The way Kate and Jack looked at each other, supported one another that was something else. Have a good weekend!
