Without a doubt Lucifer, at the time it felt like the only threath the Winchesters may not be able to overcome, with the whole thing about fate and with him being one step ahead every time he was a mighty oponent and he was very good at manipulating too.
Ever since Lucifer was defeated I always felt that the Winchesters could take on anything ahead of them and I never came to fell that again, it was like there wasn't a threath to them at all, so eventually I stopped watching in middle of season 7

  10. I'd say the writers ;D

  11. Azazel and Lucifer are the only two worthy of being called "the big bad" IMO. The rest were carcitures and puppets. Metatron was a joke of a character, let alone a villain. Lilith was a great idea that started in an amazing way in Jus in Bello. Crowley, I just love and he's selfishly helped the boys too much to be a true villain for me. S10 may change that and it may not. If the writers come out of a bag next season and write a dark, creepy and twisted old school Supernatural season, Demon Dean will be the end all, be all.

  12. This kind of happened in Buffy. S5 was likely to be the last so they went up against a god. Then they got renewed and didn't have a real villain until the end of S6. Then S7 had to break out the First Evil to have a believable threat.

  13. Lucifer may be was the deadliest one, but the best? He barely interacted with boys, his agenda was straight forward, he didn't carry any suspense. Very much known biblical character. I like my villains unpredictable, manipulative, smart. When no one knows how to defeat it.
From this perspective Crowley is very good villain: may be not super creepy, but interesting.
Mark Of Cain can be new villain as well. So far no one knows that it's capable of and how to get rid of.
So may be season 9 just introduced the best villain ever. Hopefully writers can make it work.

  14. Dick Roman only because he killed Bobby :(

  15. I wish that I could like this more than once.

  16. Azazel and Crowley were far superior to the others in my opinion. Azazel had that strong personal tie tot he Winchesters, while Crowley is one of the few villains I wanted to see back thanks to his amazing snark.

  17. My biggest problem with Lucifer is that he was supposed to be the ultimate Big Bad, but in the end he was just a spoiled child throwing a temper tantrum. For me, he did not come off as the least bit scary except maybe twice the whole season. Other than that he just seemed like that bratty teen I hate on any of a dozen TV shows.

    Best? Lucifer & Azazel.
But the scariest? I think it's gotta be Alastair.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Lucifer and Azazel were my favorite big bads, as in myth-arc big bads.

Alastair was my favorite villain on the show though. He really was creepy and how I imagine an ultimate demon to be like.

  20. What is Raphael doing on the list? Where is Eve? There are villians, like Alistair and Raphael and Gadreel, and then there are the Big Bad, the godfather of all evil overarching in their respective seasons - Azazel (S1-2), Lilith (S3-4), (Lucifer S5), (Eve S6), (Dick S7), (Crowley S8), and (Metatron S9).

Of them no one tops Azazel, he originated Big Bad in the Supernatural world and was bad ass and slick.

  21. He was more neutral than big bad, but I liked Death a lot.

  22. I don't want to get my hopes up, but I would LOVE a dark, creepy and twisted old school season 10. I also want Demon!Dean to embrace his eh, inner demon, and have some fun with it before he's turned human again.

Definitely Crowley so far. Hard to kill cause he almost always finds a way to outsmart the boys and turn the tables to make them work together. Believe there is nothing so troubling as to have to work with an enemy and Crowley constantly makes the guys to swallow their one of the fundamentals - never work with the evil - but they have to cause the King of Hell always finds the buttons to push the brothers to break the rule.

I would call Lucifer as a shadow bad. It seems that he is of a greater threat when he operates behind the curtains: so to say by leaving the prints of his presence on something or someone like the Mark of Cain or Abadon's creation or Sam's visions and etc. - evil acts spread around and through the worlds. The biggest bad so far was Michael and Lucifer's teeming scheme to "end the world as it is now" by either to create Hell on Earth or Paradise (but killing half of the planet's population). That twisted union created a hell of a problem for boys to deal with and sometimes (from characters' position) it seemed like unbeatable one so besides Crowley I would vote for the whole event thing as Armageddon. I would be glad if Luci and Michael returned somehow for spicy moments. They were both good at beaing bad.

I get wat you mean, I love Crowley as forever but still he is a very good bad in playing all those

mind games and tricks with the boys in spite of his assists. ln season 9 he started to feel a bit human again which really made him even more likeable then before but yet he is dark and twisted and just to imagine him in reality makes your spine shiver. just remember the episode where a good hunter Tara died just because... Crowley manipulated Dean on taking the Mark and ets. I don't say he doesn't care of the guys at all, think he actually does in his own dark and creepy way due to his prior season 9 respect for the brothers and later his human side but still he is a king of hell who has agendas of some sort always.

Lucifer as a big bad for lingering effects on the boys and cause ultimately he is their blood line archenemy. Crowley just cause he is Crowley - the smartest and very ruthless even while feeling human side effects. He may like the brothers but he is one hell of a manipilative fella. Never liked Lilith but Ruby was the girl! Another great villain to have a hard time to deal with: smart, pushy and manipulative bitch. I could never say if she was sincere or not. I liked Azazel as well, cool bad and very boys mythology related. Metatron was good at psychology but boring in action.
    Voted for Crowley.

Oh, I agree. I didn't meant to imply that I think he's "good". I think he's just not fully evil, but only because he has his own agenda etc, like you said.

There is one thing that Crowley differs from all other villains that made me fall hard for him: He doesn't underestimate the Winchesters. Even with all the jokes and name-calling, he "respects" them, like you said. I already liked him since his introduction, but when he gave that speech about it on season 6, he gained my forever love, lol. I became unable to hate him ever since. :o)

I found this really hard, I was tossing up Azrael, Lilly and Lucifer, they were the strongest villains. I believe Crowley is half-and-half with good and evil, whereas the others are flat out bad on this list.
The best villain on this list and according the season as a whole was Lucifer. The apocalyptic plot and the devil roaming around was a great storyline surrounding this villain. The way Sam ended up, added that intensity.
Not saying the others are lesser villains. Azrael started the whole supernatural, he is like the godfather of evil.. The very original villain is a close second.
Lillith was certainly nasty!. She was a good (well watchable) character. The way she tormented Dean is unforgettable.
Honorable mentions are also Alaistair and Eve. I would of like to see more of Alaistair, but he is very memorable for the short time he had. There are many others, that eventually got hunted down!.

  29. I came alllll the way over here from the True Blood board just to like this comment. That's how much I luv it.

  30. THIS. And I know people love Mark what's his face, but he plays the same character on every show. Bishop was no different than Lucifer who was no different than Jacob.

  31. God, I was so pissed when he was gone after two eps. I was like, "Hells yeah, Chris is here to save this season for me." BOOM - DEAD. What a buncha bull.

    ReplyDelete
  32. *How is Metatron getting more votes than Lillith?*

Likely cause this season is the freshest in most people's minds. Not saying it's fair, just saying that's a possibility.

  33. I think the scariest thing about him was how close he replicated American society...that whole story arc freaked me out...I didn't eat fast food for probably six months after that Turducken episode!

  34. Thanks. Nice to be able to contribute to the Supernatural conversation again. It almost feels like a missing appendage after being so involved in the show for so long.

  35. I would hate for Lucifer or Michael to return, although I will say that Lucifer hallucinations in season 7 were a whole lot better than Lucifer himself. He was outright funny then. I would say the best bad guy of season 5 was Alastair, who was actually scary. Even his voice creeped me out.

  36. Mark P does play similar characters a lot. I think he's been pigeonholed, which is a shame because I can'y determine whether he's as excellent an actor as everyone proclaims him to be or if he's a one-note actor. I have not been as impressed as a lot of fans. He's decent and gets the job done, but nothing especially outstanding to me.

Easily azazel, then Lilith. The recent villains are nothing compared to these guys. They actually seemed evil.
I would put in lucifer as well but only the lucifer we saw in Sam's hallucinations. The one who was actually the big bad didn't really do much

  38. Azazel, my friend. Azrael is another fallen angel entirely.

    Hi *waves* :)
Yellow-eyed is Azrael?. Well whether I got the name wrong or not my point is YED started the whole thing up and yeah..pretty evil.

    ReplyDelete
  40. YED = b/c it was personal for the Winchesters. He's the one who destroyed their family so I think he was the best "big bad" the show's ever had.

I would love to see Lucifer or Michael in the scenes of the past. Present would be, yes, not so much of a good idea but past, especially concerning Cain's story and the Mark of Cain would be quite nice to see at least Luci back. :)

Oh, my! Feel all the same! I lauph so hard and every time when I remember his now iconic phrase: "Am I the only game piece on the board who doesn't underestimate those denim wrapped nightmares?!" ))) "denim wrapped nightmares" - hilarious! )))

  43. YED = Azazel. Azrael is considered the Angel of Death in Islam.

  44. Death was so effin' PIMP. I loved the way he verbally smacked down Dean.
