Good news. The second episode of “The Last Ship” was better than the first. It gave me exactly what I wanted after last week – some slow, emotional moments to balance out the fast action, and a little more focus on some of the characters. “Welcome to Gitmo” is a nice episode. It was filled with tension as you don’t know what to expect around every corner.
The episode begins just where it left off last week with scientist Quincy’s phone call exposing him as a mole. You still don’t know exactly what he is up to. This week he makes a couple attempts to sabotage the ship. I will not say if he is successful or not. But I can tell you we will find out more about his intentions in episode three.
The majority of the action this week takes place when the ship reaches Guantanamo Bay. The captain decides to send in three teams in with different missions – to get food, refuel and look for necessary medical supplies for the vaccine. But each team comes into contact with problems, including Gitmo detainees who are on the loose and shooting. A new character is also introduced at Gitmo and I liked him. I’m looking forward to seeing more of him.
On the water, the crew encounters another vessel in the ocean. But is it a friend or foe? Stay tuned.
Overall, I was pleased with this episode. I was very happy to see more than just action alone. And don’t worry – you still have plenty of Michael Bay explosions to keep you entertained. This was a definite improvement from the pilot.
Let us know if you’re looking forward to episode 2 in the comments below. And come back for a more detailed review after the episode airs.
