Hey All,
As you know each year we try to see how good your prediction skills are in determining which shows will be Renewed and which ones will be Cancelled.
You can see how we did last season here.
So starting today we're going to be running a series of polls asking you what your predictions are for next season.
Today it's the ABC shows. You can find promos, clips and photos for most of the shows via the ABC Menu at the top of the site.
There are 2 Polls below. One for Renewals and one for Cancellations.
So vote below and let us know in the comments which shows you hope will be renewed, and which ones you think will be cancelled.
I honestly hope Selfie does well, just for the sake of Karen Gillan and her awesomeness. Otherwise I think The Whispers, Fresh of the Boat, HTGAWM and possibly Secrets and Lies could all do well and be renewed.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts:
ReplyDeleteCastle, Once Upon A Time, Scandal, Grey's Anatomy, Modern Family, Nashville & (probably) The Middle are pretty much prelocked for renewal
Revenge and Last Man Standing are pretty likely to be in their final years.
Outside of that their new comedy slate looks pretty weak (to me) so I think all their other current comedies will probably survive with one other renewal, probably either Selfie or Manhattan Love Story.
How To Get Away With Murder seems near certain to survive following Grey's and Scandal. Some of the others are tough but with drama slots at a premium I think they'll only have one more, maybe American Crime.
What I can't decide on is the SHIELD\Ressurrection renewal. I think only one genre show will survive (perhaps to be moved to the Revenge slot?) and I think this will be the big fan battle next season.
i think haley atwell played her role as Agent Carter quite well in the Captain America movie. As long as they have good writers from the get-go, it should succeed maybe even better then Agents Of Shield, which is struggling to maintain its numbers.
ReplyDeleteI think Revenge will make it to a shortened 5th and final season, 12-13 episodes to get to 100. Grey's and Last Man Standing are probably going to get another final season too.
ReplyDeleteOUAT, Castle, Scandal, Modern Family, The Middle, and Nashville (syndication) are all sure things.
Should MAOS stay steady, it will come back for season 3 and 4.
Aside from that I'm not counting anything out yet (new shows are hard to predict, three years ago I thought Grimm wouldn't make it past its first season and the same happened this season with Resurrection this year, but they lived!), but I think Selfie and Manhattan Love Story are going to have a hard time
I hope so, it could be great, let's hope for really great writing for just 8 episodes!
ReplyDeleteObvious renewals first: Greys, Scandal, OUAT, Castle, Modern Family, The Middle
ReplyDeleteMost likely to be renewed unless something majorly goes bad: AoS, Last Man Standing, Nashville, Revenge, Goldbergs
New shows most likely to do well: HTGAWM, Agent Carter
New shows most likely doomed: The Whispers, Cristela, Manhattan Love Story, Forever, American Crime, Fresh off the Boat
Shows I really have no idea how they will do: Selfie, Secrets and Lies, Galavant, Black-ish, Resurrection
Shows I want to be renewed: AoS, Agent Carter, Revenge (assuming the quality keeps up)
New shows I'm interested in based on trailers/news, etc: Agent Carter, Galavant, The Whispers, Fresh off the Boat
They are using the True Detective method. 8 episodes means no filler. The overall story arc will be consistent and fast paced while each individual episode develops the characters. its the perfect format for this kind of show.
ReplyDeleteSomehow, 6 & 4 people actually believe that Scandal and Modern family are going to be cancelled. I do wonder about people sometimes...
ReplyDeletehaha I know, I think sometimes people vote for the shows they want to be cancelled instead which are very different things!
ReplyDeleteMaybe they just hate/ dislike the show, and decided to vote cancelled regardless of its ratings or popularity. People these days...
ReplyDeleteCertain renewals: the entire wed. comedy block (at least until until 9.30pm ...). And I'm prestty sure The Goldbergs will be a major hit in that slot. Also, all the Shonda stuff, OUAT, Castle.
ReplyDeleteLikely erased: Members Only, Cristela, Selfie, American Crime, Revenge, Black-ish.
Will be interesting to see how Galavant performs (I like to consider this show as a sort of reinvented "3rd season" for The Neighbors ...).
Unpredictable: The Whispers.
Well, I must admit that I wasn't paying attention and voted for renewals on the right poll...
ReplyDeleteIf SHIELD maintains 2.0+ ratings in the Tuesday 9pm slot and Resurrection maintains low 2's there's no reason why they can't be both be renewed. I also doubt they'll move SHIELD to Sunday at 10pm.
ReplyDeleteI don't mind if Revenge ends this season but ABC better tell them that it's the final season early on so that they can have a fantastic finale. There would be nothing worse than having a cliffhanger, especially on this type of show where we want an endgame.
ReplyDeleteIt depends what they do with their other slots. Assuming they do no other schedule moves and want to leave the same number of slots free for new shows next year, then we have to treat it as a Zero-Sum game.
ReplyDeleteI'm assuming Revenge is the only other senior Drama cancellation then there are only 3 slots for all their new dramas plus SHIELD & Resurrection. Now they may only renew 1 new drama but that seems unlikely given the number of commissions so if they renew 2 new dramas then they may only have 1 slot left. With Resurrection and SHIELD both likely to be slightly more expensive I'm not sure they'd want to have both of them. It would be nice for them to maintain 2.0+ ratings but I'm cynical they'll manage it.
SHIELD's move will depend how well it does. If it maintains high ratings they may keep it there but if they fall too low they may want to move it to a match up with Once Upon A Time rather than sandwiched by other new shows.
I hope 4th season of OUaT will be as good or better than season 3. I only didn't like the finlale but I still love this show.
ReplyDeleteShouldn't the results of the two polls be total opposites of each other, for example Castle is in the top spot for the renewal predictions, so logically that should mean it should be the very last one on the cancellation poll, but it's not.
ReplyDeletein theory, but some people probably aren't doing both polls or aren't voting all choices in both.
ReplyDeleteCurrent ABC Shows I believe will be renewed: Greys , OUAT , Mordern Family , Scandal , The Middle , Castle , Agents Of Shield and Resurrection.
ReplyDeleteCurrent Shows that i could see getting cancelled: Revenge , The Goldburgs , Nashville and Last Man Standing (Only due to the fact that it was really tough negotiating for another season this season)
New Shows that will be Renewed: Agent Carter , How to get away with murder , Forever, Galavant.
New Shows that will be cancelled: Cristela , Selfie , Manhattan Love Story , American Crime , Fresh Of The Boat , Members Only and Astronaut Wives.
Based on the first look promos, none of the ne comedies should be renewed (except maybe for Selfie). Some of the new dramas look good, especially HTGAWM and The Whispers,
ReplyDeleteHaving seem most of the new ABC show screeners, I can say that some of them have potential to be hits. Too lazy to list the shows I voted for right now.
ReplyDeleteI don´t think Castle will be renewed, because I believe the contract is for 7 seasons and I guess both NF and SK will be wanting to do other things. I agree with almost all your other predictions:)
ReplyDeleteunless revenge improves its writing quality then I could see it getting canceled
ReplyDeleteActually Nashville us in lock renewal due to syndication
ReplyDeleteIf revenge could maintain 1.5 to 1.9 all season I could see it having a 5th and final season
ReplyDeleteI only say that i could be cancelled because of this year there was a big chance of it not getting another season as their was some long negotiations due to tax and it could happen again.
ReplyDelete"Nashville‘s ratings have been modest. That paired with Tennessee’s vote to cut by two-thirds the tax benefits previously set aside for the show, which films in Nashville, gave Lionsgate and ABC Studios a difficult time, trying to make the show work financially"
As much as I love revenge I don't mind if they cancel it just as long as there's closure to the story.
ReplyDeleteRevenge has been renewed for a full season so its unlikely that it will be canceled mid season
ReplyDeleteI could see resurrection getting canceled due to the pace its ratings seemed to be dropping every episode.
ReplyDeleteI hope galavant getting a season 2
ReplyDeletethe trailer is so funny
upto I saw the draft of $7025 , I be certain
ReplyDelete...that...my mom in-law woz like they say truley making money part-time on
their apple labtop. . there sisters roommate had bean doing this less than 8
months and at present repayed the debts on their house and bought a brand new
volvo . look at here now Moneyduties.COM
true , but it had some very high DVR numbers.
ReplyDeleteEmily Van Camp just signed a contract for two more seasons with Revenge. Despite the ratings ABC loves this show there's nothing like it that's why they want to reset the fourth season.
ReplyDeleteFor Castle, I don't think it's a question of renewal/cancellation, I just don't think it will last past this season because I don't think NF will re-up. That said, I would LOVE for this show to go on for a long time because it is my tv weakness.
ReplyDeleteAOS will be renew for season 3 just because ABC is controlled by disney which also own Marvel.......and moving to tuesday 9 pm the rating will be strong
ReplyDeleteI think it will be good for Revenge to end next May... It has a storyline that can't be around for many years, and four seasons are enough.
ReplyDeleteBut SpoilerTV didn't get screenings from ABC. How were you able to get pilots from them?
ReplyDeleteI wasn't suggesting midseason. I was referring to for next season.
ReplyDeleteIn this, I'm going to exclude midseason shows, since they could appear everywhere.
ReplyDeleteIn new shows, the safest bets are How to Get Away with Murder and Black-ish. Both have strong lead-ins. The ones that seem dunzo are Manhattan Love Story and Forever. MLS will have to be a self-starter and the target female demo already have Voice. Forever's demo is in sharp contrast with SHIELD, and males have POI, and women have CF, so Forever gets the table scraps. Just move Castle there for goodness sake! The ones more up in the air are Selfie and Cristela; Selfie has to be a self-starter, but the only other midseason comedies are Galavant and Fresh Off the Boat, and perhaps Kapnek can save Selfie like what Lorre did for Mom; creator starpower. Cristela all depends on the compatibility with LMS. Both have the same look and feel, and if it gain or be close to LMS's ratings, it could earn a renewal.
In returnees, Modern Family, The Middle, Scandal, Once, and Castle, are sure bets. Revenge is 50/50. They could do another for syndication, but the ratings are pretty low already. Goldbergs depends on if it can pull a Suburgatory S1 and gain from its lead-in. Resurrection started amazingly, but it decreased drastically, so I'm cautiously optimistic at its chances for season 3. Nashville does have syndication on its side, but if it drops more and more...yikes. I believe that's every series, so here's my predictions.
the obvious renwals for the returnees us castle, greys, scandal, ouat, and agents of shield. on the bubble would be revenge it all depends on whether its ratings will.improve and Nashville even though it has syndication on its side I'm not really sure.if its ratings will drop. If it could at least maintain the same ratings as this season then I'm pretty sure it will renewed. As for the.new shows how to get away with murder will get renewed for 2 reasons its a shonda show and it has a huge lead in. The rest I'm not too sure about
ReplyDeleteRenew: OUAT, GA, Castle, Scandal, MF, The Middle, How Get Away with Murder, Forever, Agents Of Shield, Agent Carter
ReplyDeleteCancel: Cristela, Resurrection, Members Only, Fresh Off The Boat, Selfie, Revenge, Black-ish, Nashville, The Astronaut Wives Club
Not sure: Galant, American Crime, The Whispers, The Goldbergs, Secrets and Lies
I was able to watch them thanks to a friend, but ABC didn't officially send them to SpoilerTV.
ReplyDeleteSame here. I think the show will either end this season or in its 5th season, but I'm more inclined to a 5th and final season so it can reach 100+ episodes. I'm ok either way, it's a good run and I think the show can pull off a magnificent finale within those 22-35 episodes to come, but I hope it's no more than that or the show could lose its touch
ReplyDeleteWhile contracts are a good indication of the will the network has to keep the show it's not necessarily proof, as show that has multiyear contract with their actors have been cancelled before. But with the potential to get over 100 episodes on its 5th season, I'd say Revenge is more likely to be renewed than cancelled next season
ReplyDeleteI think 1.3 is enough for them; it would still be doing quite better than most of the entries there (Pan Am, Red Widow, Betreyal), but that would only guarantee the final shortened season. As it is an ABC studio production with the potential to reach 100 episodes and it is widely supported by ABC exces I'm sure it will make it to a 5th final season (shortened or full, but probably shortened) as long as it doesn't do as bad as 0.9 or below
ReplyDeleteActually Nashville is at a likely renewal due to syndication.
ReplyDeleteI think Revenge has a lot of chances to be renewed because of the100 episodes on its 5th season, plus, ABC loves the show, so because of that, i I'd say Revenge is more likely to be renewed than cancelled.
ReplyDeleteStill made Wonderland was been canceled...
ReplyDeleteReturning shows:
ReplyDeleteRenwed: Castle, Grey's Anatomy, The Middle, Modern Family, Once Upon A Time, Scandal, Nashville (syndication), The Goldbergs and Agents of SHIELD
Canceled: Last Man Standing (because of issues with 20th century fox, similar to WB's Suburgatory situation) and Revenge (it would be done by last season if it wasn't for syndication) and Resurrection (I see a sophomore slump here).
New shows
All canceled except How to Get Away With Murder, ABC scheduled two tuesday 8 PM comedies to be self-starters, Black-ish won't be able to keep Modern Family's audience and Forever will last two episodes given the timeslot, Cristela will be done too and things don't bode well for midseason shows considering past season track.
Bold prediction; Paul Lee is fired after 2015 upfronts.
Being Renewed: Agent Carter, Agents of SHIELD, Castle, Forever, Grey's Anatomy, How To Get Away With Murder, Modern Family, OuaT, Resurrection, Revenge, Scandal, The Middle
ReplyDeleteCould go either way: Black-ish, Fresh Off The Boat, Gavalant, Last Man Standing, Manhattan Love Story, Secrets And Lies, The Astronaut Wives Club, The Goldbergs, The Whispers
Being Cancelled: American Crime, Cristela, Members Only, Nashville, Selfie
Emily got her revenge. Everything else they have set up jumps the shark and is totally useless, so the number of seasons to come doesn't matter in the least, although cancelling it to free up the time slot is preferable sooner rather than later.
ReplyDeleteI only watch OUAT & AOS, both of which im sure will be renewed.
ReplyDeleteI'll be checking out Agent Carter as well but I don't think it will be very good tbh
Returning Shows:
ReplyDelete- Agents of Shield: Renewal
- Castle: Renewal
- Grey's Anatomy: Renewal
- Last Man Standing: Tough to call... I will say ratings merit will ultimately prevail and go with renewal
- Modern Family: Renewal
- Nashville: I think this will be awesome from a ratings study standpoint as it will be the ultimate ase study for how much is syndication worth it.... Renewal
- Once Upon a Time: Renewal
- Resurrection: It could easily slump but even then maybe it can timeshare with Revenge final season at 10pm Sundays? Tough to say. I am going with cancellation
- Revenge: Renewal for a final season
- Scandal: Renewal
- The Goldbergs: Renewal
- The Middle: Renewal
New Shows whose timeslot we know of:
- Agent Carter: Renewal
- American Crime: Renewal
- Black-ish: Cancellation
- Cristela: Cancellation
- Forever: Cancelation
- Galavant: I have no idea... One and done? Cancellaton
- How to Get Away with Murder: Renewal
- Manhattan Love Story: Cancellation
- Secrets and Lies: Cancellation (I think it's one and done... can it even be renewed?)
- Selfie: Going up against the voice I just don't see how it can get the 18-34s it wants it to watch it... Cancellation
New Shows Whose Timeslot is Unknown:
- Fresh of The Boat: Cancellation
- Members Only: Cancellation
- The Astronaut Wives Club: Toss-Up.. Going with Renewal
- The Whispers: Cancellation
Revenge was performing at 80% of ABC's drama average by season's end. That's not an easy cancellation regardless of how you look at it, except maybe if you're a freshman. For comparison's sake, Nashville was performing at 70% and was renewed too. Sure, syndication probably helped its cause but the idea that its the only reason why it was renewed is ludicrous in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteAmerican Crime will take over Sundays at 9pm when Resurrection finishes its second season run, premiering after the Oscars. Secrets and Lies will take over How to Get Away with Murder, which will only run for a limited amount of episodes to accommodate Viola Davis schedule. So these two are actually scheduled!
ReplyDeleteAs for the others, my guess is Astronaut Wives Club lands on Thursdays during the Shonda block hiatus to bridge it and The Whispers lands on Tuesdays when Forever or the comedies fail, since it seems the most logical pairing with Shield. Not sure about Fresh Off the Boat or Members Only. I think Members Only is pure spackle a la Killer Women last year, I doubt they will care a lot about it.
ABC midseason is actually mostly known already!
ReplyDeleteCopying a previous post of mine:
"American Crime will take over Sundays at 9pm when Resurrection finishes its second season run, premiering after the Oscars. Secrets and Lies will take over How to Get Away with Murder, which will only run for a limited amount of episodes to accommodate Viola Davis schedule. So these two are actually scheduled!

Also, Galavant will air Sundays at 8 during OUAT's hiatus.
I must admit that when it comes to these completely in the blind predictions, especially when it comes to new shows, I also feel somehow influenced by which shows I do like. It's different when I have hard numbers and can judge but right now is harder to not let my personal opinions bias me.
ReplyDeleteYou have to remember that you cannot use absolute numbers as thresholds. A 1.3 may have been the number you had in mind this spring but next year I guarantee you that the 1.3 will have a different interpretation. Either Revenge keeps it and it looks a whole lot better than this year because most of the other stuff has fallen or it falls to something like 1.1/1.2 and it's the same as the 1.3 this year, because it takes an averague-league drop. What you should be saying is that " as long as Revenge doesn't fall below the 80-85% ABC's drama scripted average it should be fine", and then I would agree ;)
ReplyDeleteResurrection and Shield are not in direct competition with one another, ABC would love to renew both.
ReplyDeleteWell, Revenge is in a privileged position right now, where it is reaching syndication and the look on the prospect of 100 makes it look even better. So even if it is below 80% I can see it getting renewed for a final short season of 13 episodes. But yeah, numbers can change a lot year to year, so to say a 1.3 is enough is not accurate, but I do think the show will make it to a 5th season due to being close enough to 100 episodes, unless something goes horribly wrong and it starts pulling Rasing Hope kind of numbers
ReplyDeleteDespite the fact that revenge is privileged the question is if its ratings will fall further I doubt ABC will renew it if it falls below a 1.2. I agree that a 1.3 is enough but if gets that rating it all depends on how abcs freshman shows if they fail then revenge has a good chance of getting renewed.for a short final season with that rating.
ReplyDeleteAh, I forgot they had actually been scheduled. There was a lot of info during Upfronts so I must have forgotten some things. Still doesn't change my predictions though.
ReplyDeleteYeah it's hard to keep track!
ReplyDelete
