Monday 6/02/14 Metered Markets
Modest Return for “Mistresses” on ABC

Fox 4.3/ 7
CBS 3.8/ 6
NBC 3.0/ 5
CW 1.1/ 2

-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Monday 6/03/13:
Fox: +231, CW: +120, CBS: +15, ABC: no change, NBC: -52

———-

-Winners:
“The Bachelorette” (ABC), “24: Live Another Day” (Fox)

-Honorable Mention:
“Masterchef” (Fox), “Whose Line is it Anyway?” (CW), “American Ninja Warrior” (NBC)

-Losers:
“Beauty and the Beast” (CW), “Mistresses” (ABC)

———-

-Ratings Breakdown:
ABC and Fox tied for Monday overnight household leadership, each with a 0.5 rating point advantage over runner-up CBS. Tops for the night was perennial summer ABC favorite “The Bachelorette,” which averaged a 4.9 rating/8 share in households from 8-10 p.m. and only fluctuated by two-tenths of a rating point in the four half-hours. Comparably, this was seven percent above the 4.6/ 7 on the year-ago evening.

The season-premiere of sophomore ABC scripted drama “Mistresses” followed with a third-place 3.1/ 5 at 10 p.m., which was 18 percent below the year-ago series opener (3.8/ 6 on 6/03/13). And that 3.8 overnight rating translated into 4.40 million viewers and a 1.2 rating/3 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same Day data. Comparably, the overnight retention for “Mistresses” out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “The Bachelorette” (5.0/ 8) was weak at 62 percent.

Fox, meanwhile, was on the map care of “Masterchef” (#2: 3.9/ 7), which like all Gordon Ramsay series is a young adult option, and “24: Live Another Day” (#2: 4.8/ 8), which increased by 12 percent from one week earlier. While not the success it once was, “24” nonetheless is a valid original summer option.

Over at NBC, the new season of “American Ninja Warrior” grew by 23 percent from the week-ago season-opener, with a 3.2/ 5 in the overnights from 9-11 p.m. And this will, no doubt, be enough to win the 10 p.m. hour in adults 18-49 (and other key young adult demos) opposite “48 Hours” on CBS (#1: 4.3/ 7) and ABC’s aforementioned “Mistresses.” Worth positively noting for “48 Hours” was growth out of a 9:30 p.m. encore of “Mike & Molly” (#3: 3.7/ 6) of 16 percent.

Earlier in the evening on CBS was repeats of “2 Broke Girls” (#3: 3.3/ 6), “Mom” (#3: 3.2/ 5) and another installment of “Mike & Molly” (#3: 3.8/ 6) from 8-9:30 p.m. Mirroring this season, benchwarmer “Mike & Molly” is not on the fall schedule and will return later in the season.

In return series news, “Beauty and the Beast” on The CW did not earn its renewal stripes with a 0.9/ 1 from 9-10 p.m., which was 31 percent below an encore of lead-in “Whose Line is it Anyway?” at 8:30 p.m. (1.3/ 2). An original edition of “Whose Line” scored a 1.4/ 2 in the 8 p.m. half-hour, which (combined with the encore) was 125 percent above year-ago occupant “Oh Sit!”

  1. Glad 24 increased from last week, would be happy if it came back next summer for another short season.

  2. Isn't that 0.9 actually UP from the last original Beauty and the Beast episode? Yay for 24 rising! Perhaps it has found its floor and could sneak in another summer run.

  3. Yeah it got a 0.7HH, and a 0.2 in the overnights the last time it aired.

  4. Thought so, good for the fans of the show I guess.

  5. 0.9 & probably 0.3 is nothing to be happy about

I guess there will be NOT a 3rd season for Mistresses ...

  7. I'll wait for Demo's on Mistresses for sure. I think P'Hood usually got around a 2.something/5 in overnights and never fell below a 1.0. I'm hoping for the same here.

  8. Mistresses' low is a 0.9.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I look forward to Ninja Warrior every year! Does anyone know where I can watch the original Japanese Sasuke tournament? When G4 network went down the broadcasts of Sasuke went with it.

  10. Mistresses returned with a 1.2 as per Joe Adalian. I think is safe to assume that it will return, if it maintain this numbers.

  11. I know, I was just comparing to a similar Household number i've seen. I'm super glad it notched a 1.2.

I really think, it was a good move for the CW to move BATB to summer runs, no much competition among the same network and others as well. If they keep the loyal fan base it actually could help boost the ratings a little bit, I don't mind the show running in the summer even if it is only 13 episodes as long as they give us epic quality ones. Im fine with this! :)

If the final demo is something like 1.2 that's obviously ok.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I wonder why they didn't pair BATB with 100? They're the only series running on CW with new eps. Might as well throw'em together and make a night of it.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Mistresses a tenth below Nashville and Revenges in season numbers. And above Motive!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Great to see an increase for Beauty and the Beast, love this show.....hope it increases more every week. I know I'll be watching!!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. CW needs to spread new content throughout week to make some sort of summer schedule.

    ReplyDelete
  18. That makes sense.

    Good for BatB for rising

  20. Christopher DeBono3 June 2014 at 16:44

Any word on pre-emptions last night?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Will be interesting to see if the CW can resurect BatB with this summer run! If it works they could split season 3 in 2 parts one part to air in winter and the other in summer.

Glad the mistressed kept steady more or less. This episode felt more like a conclusion to the 1st season. Did not set up much for S02 but let's see.

  22. Not too bad for Mistresses i think it got a 1.2 all season long for season 1.

  27. With 1.11 million viewers how the hell does a show get renewed? Terrible decision by the CW.

    ReplyDelete
  28. 18-49 demo is more important. But then again, that's a 0.4. Not much better.
