I liked the finale better than any other episode in the season. Always and Forever was a repeat of the backdoor pilot, just from a different perspective. I actually preferred the backdoor pilot. Less family drama.
I did not appreciate Farewell to Storyville. No one needs to see a main character try to kill his sister for no good reason on primetime network television. That kind of thing belongs on HBO. The crazy part is that the same viewers who complained that Rebekah should just leave town complained about it when she did. It was bad storytelling surrounding the character that led to this problem. Of course it got the baby off the show later on, and that was a mistake made as far back as the backdoor pilot.
From the finale, it looks like Season 2 will be better in some ways than Season 1, but worse in others. What sold the show to a bigger fan base was that new characters were brought in and no one had to worry about anything on or from TVD. Then the writers didn't make it to the end of Season 1 without resurrecting old characters (something that TVD fans were relieved to see the end of) and recycling TVD storylines. TO will probably also alter the mythology surrounding these characters, just like the show removed Hayley as an antagonist even while telling the story of what Tyler did in Mystic Falls. I love that more new characters are coming in, but I think it's unnecessary to bring up ancient history again with Mikael, Esther, and Finn. Mikael's story was already told in flashbacks, and Esther and Finn's story could have been too. I don't see the point of recycling or trying to rewrite these stories. If TO is supposed to be a brand new, separate show, then it should be concentrating on new characters and not bringing back so many old ones who can only get killed again in the same ways and for the same reasons. This is why I'm more interested in Lenore and Kaleb than whatever will happen with Mikael and Esther. They'll both be dead by the end of the first arc.
While not my favourite episode I loved when they tried to take out Klaus and he tore through them (though until Elijah killed even more on his own I thought them taking him into the corridor might have allowed him to beat them) Like the majority of people my favourite episodes were the final two.
Rebekah tied to kill Klaus in 1919, so he decided to try to kill her in the present. I wouldn't say it happened for "no good reason". On TVD Season 2 Elijah was plotting to kill Klaus (which I think the writers forgot about) so the siblings trying to kill each other has been going on since we were introduced to them.
With Rebekah I think the problem was they never gave her an actual storyline or reason to be in NOLA because they knew Claire was leaving. From the day Rebekah arrived all really did was complain about was how much she hated it in NOLA and wanted to leave so as a viewer I was baffled as to why she wouldn't just leave town if that's what she really wanted. Nobody was forcing her to stay there so she was free to do whatever she wanted.
Finn was never fleshed out on TVD. He was such a minor character so I think there's a lot they could do with him. Same with Kol - we didn't really see a lot of him on TVD so TO would be a good opportunity to use him.
I wish they would release a directors cut of the last epi, to reward us loyal fans! Or at the very least put some of the editing room cuts online, it would make waiting until October bearable!

Is it weird that my favorite are first and last? :D
ReplyDeletefinále and 1x21 :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite 1x21

ReplyDelete"Always and Forever" & "From a Cradle to a Grave" were my favorites as well.

22,16 and 06! In this order.
ReplyDeletePeople usually forget the episodes in between. IMO, episode two was great. Made me wanna watch the series!

I cant believe 1.08 is low. My favorites is always behind. Whyyyyyyy😭😭😭
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the last episode.
ReplyDeletethis show might not make it to my viewing list in season 2, as nothing pops out at me to vote for without me needing to re-watch it.
ReplyDeleteLe grand Guignol and Farewell to Storville
ReplyDeleteI voted Casket Girls just because I think that was the one that had Klaus's big dopey smile after his Klarosex in the woods in TVD, lol.

ReplyDeleteNope. Klaus went to Mystic Falls in between 1x11 and 1x12 so that exchange was in 1x12 - Dance Back From the Grave.
ReplyDeleteOpps. I'm a bad Klaroliner. Someone take away my Klaroline card, lol.
