  1. Good, nowhere near as great as prior episodes which all ended on a wow factor and/or on a cliffhanger. Chandler turning gay and having the hot's for Dorian Gray did not wow me nor was it an effective cliffhanger. I hope the sex doesn't take over the show, which it did in this episode. Also, if Chandler is a werewolf, which they keep alluding to, why did he wake up by the docks with his clothes on?
On the plus side, the scene in the theatre was tremendous, showing all the characters sitting around and their reactions - masterful directing at its finest.

  2. I seriously don't get Ethan, now he's bisexual? it does intrigue me what it is that haunts him so much but when they showed those fast images I was expecting something more dramatic I think.
I also don't get Dorian, why would he leave Vanessa at the theatre and if he's so intrigued by her?
Can't Brona just die already? She's annoying and pointless, I hope she leaves the show, I'm not even interested in her as a posible bride to Frankenstain's monster.
Can't wait for next week. From what I saw on the promo we'll see more about a more than complex relationship between Vanessa and Mina.

Yea I'm with you on the Chandler/Dorian thing. I've no problem with dudes liking dudes but that scene just didn't feel authentic to me. I guess it was more believable from the Dorian side of things, he definitely likes play with unique people & Chandler is for sure something beasty in nature but I wasn't feeling it on the Chandler end.

  4. Dorian is probably pansexual, Ethan isn't necessarily Bi, I think he was going through a lot in that moment (the flashbacks implied he's a werewolf and the one who killed all those people, he was rejected by Brona, is doing things he's not ok with, fighting with the beast inside, etc) and I think he just needed some release and to grab onto something before he drowns. Dorian was there, they were drinking, so it happened.

I think Dorian is interested in many things and people, he probably saw an opening with Ethan and just went with it, Vanessa is a bit harder to reach, so he probably figured he'd have another shot with her later.

I actually kinda liked Brona in this episode, but yeah, she doesn't have much of a point right now.

I really can't wait for next week and find out more about Vanessa-Mina-Malcolm.

  5. he's a wolf alright..... noticed that he didn't want to give his blood....

  6. Yeah, I definitely noticed that. Unless it's one big misdirection, I definitely think he's a werewolf.

  7. I'm thinking that he's definitely the American werewolf in London.

  8. I don't care much about labels, what I ment is that the way the characters are written makes me not get them which is unusual for me, so I end up perplexed at the end of each episode, it's good in a way but also uncomfortable at times, for me at least.
Of course I could find excuses for their actions but for some reason their reactions don't look natural for their characters, it makes the story seem a little forced to me instead of flowing naturally, don't get me wrong I still love it and thing it's, for the most part, incredibly done.

  9. I don't think you know enough about the characters to be able to understand their motivations. Little by little, you find out more about them. This is only Dorian's second episode and his first big one, I don't think you're supposed to know what his deal is or how he'd behave. I know Malcolm would do anything and sacrifice anyone to save his daughter and I have a pretty good handle on Victor, but the rest are more mysterious. We literally know nothing about Ethan or what haunts him, so how can you know what drives him or how he'll react? To me it's part of the appeal right now, finding out little by little and mostly guessing. So far I don't think anything felt not natural to me or forced, but that's a matter of opinion. I think it's the kind of show that after we finish the season, we'll want to go back and rewatch it, picking up on clues we missed earlier.

  10. Yeah, I do like the mystery, what I think confuses me isn't that I don't know why they do what they do, it's that it has me thinking towards the characters "if you do this, there's no point of you doing that", I know you already said what you think happened with Dorian but I'm not sold on that, I don't think it makes much sense that he would ditch Vanessa AND then toast to her, one or the other yes, not both.
I'm trying to explain what's on my mind but I am aware that it's just my opinion and there's no need to have people agree with me.

  11. Unless Dorian is using Ethan to get closer to Vanessa, find out more about her. Like I said, I think Dorian could be interested in more than just Vanessa, saw an interesting opening and took it. Obviously that's just my opinion based on very little characterization, I'm sure we'll learn more soon.

I see nothing wrong with you explaining what's on your mind or holding a different opinion, one of the best things a show can do is inspire debate.

  12. On that I agree, but given that there have been some seriously worrying debates on many shows I always feel the need to clarify that.

  13. I agree, some things seem a little forced to me, I guess we'll see how it plays out nexr week.

  14. Everyone's got an opinion and very little chance of changing someone else's mind, I like debates because it helps me see things from a different perspective or helps sharpen my opinion, but if it just turns to arguing, there's very little point to it.

  15. pretty good development ep,but it did drag a bit... interesting Chandler/Gray interaction, but not sure how it is supposed to affect the overall plots but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I know that Chandler being a werewolf/the new Ripper is being strongly alluded to, but I wonder if he's more of a Jekyll/Hyde type monster since the recent killings point to the killer having some intelligence rather than just purely animalistic. The last bit of development I'm curious about is what is up with Malcolm's manservant, Sembene?

  16. Damn like wtf just happened. Good episode but hope next episode they get back to the supernatural business.
Seems like Dorian is the Sex Demon who propose in life is to over power the Demimonde lol.

  17. they alluded so many times that Ethan is something, and for some reasons people assumed he is a werewolf, that I think there are two possibilities:

-1-there is too much scenes alluding he is something, it would be too obvious, so I think the black guy is werewolf. If ethan is werewolf there would be no surprise. Would Ethan go to the theatre to see that werewolf play? And when the guy on stage "changed" into werewolf Ethan was smiling like everybody else on the audience, but the black guy (sorry, dont know his name)

-2-there is no werewolf in the show, and ethan is something else. Which would suck because I wanna see really scary werewolf.

the scene in the zoo when he made the pack of wolves go away made it pretty clear what he is, but its still too obvious imo.

  18. I loved it, everything in the show is done so well, that scene with Dorian & Ethan confused me a bit but it made more sense when I thought about it.
The promo for the next episode looks awesome too, I really love Vanessa and Eva is a fantastic actor :)

  19. The ending thoroughly shocked me! I did NOT see that coming. At all.
But I don't mind. Imagine the drama if Vanessa found out :-) And she probably will. But no matter who Ethan hooks up with, I will forever root for him and Vanessa as a couple. Can't help that.

The flashbacks in the end, it did give me the impression Ethan is the monster who is killing people.
A monstrous werewolf would certainly be perfect in this show! I love this show <3

  20. i agree exactly with what you said about Dorian and Ethan, the scene wasn't passionate to me at all it was raw, emotional, right place right time.

  21. Excellent episode! The acting/scenes set a "Dark Sinister" atmosphere of intrigue and mystery that's so riveting. My theories are abound this episode, shall we (No Spoilers)!
    - Dorian Grey is the "Decadent Individual" who lives the "Life of Essex". After this episode he's starting to resemble a Clive Barker character. Dorian's lines about being "bored with the music after mastering the notes" implied he will try/do anything to fight the boredom and pass the time until he is bored again. As far as the rest of that last scene goes.................we'll just have to wait and see.
    - Vanessa Ives was called "Mother" several times by the "Child Fiend". Varies times in "Pop Culture" Lilith is called/named the "Mother of Monsters..............just saying you heard it here first. A "Folk Heroine" turned saint or Adam's first wife? You (all) know which one I believe!
    - Ethan Chandler is the "Ripper/Werewolf" (the blood transfusion scene) and......................................................bi - curious? Stay tuned!
    - Brona Croft aka "Typhoid Mary" dies and Dr. Frankenstein makes her into the "Bride" (a clear improvement) is when I'll start to care. Until then..................UUUGGH!
Call me wrong/foul but I like Caliban, especially with his friend the theater manager (who is the friend/father that Caliban needs/deserves). The introduction of Dr. Van Helsing working with Dr. Frankenstein was CLASSIAC! Really looking forward to the "Vanessa/Mina" episode next week! 4 A PENNY FULL OF DREAD, I remain Nobody!!!

  22. there is something about the show that makes it really good, i liked the episode, tbh i was waiting for something to happen at the theather, everytime i looked at Caliban i thought that something will go wrong, the theather part was the best for me, Brona and Caliban looked so happy, they were enjoying themselves, it was really good at least for me...
Chandler is not a werewolf but somekind of beast, at the end i think Dorian played him in the way he knew what Chandler was going to do, kind of throwing a bone for it to bite and Chandler went for it...
Brona is an interesting Character just as Vanessa both girls have their demons and i would like to see more of those stories.
The moment when Dorian went to see his painting i was waiting for them to show him rottinng there but booo. Didnt happen.

  23. "tbh i was waiting for something to happen at the theather, everytime i looked at Caliban i thought that something will go wrong"

LOL, same, I was so nervous because I was sure something dreadful was going to happen, the scene went on for a long time, moving from the audience to Caliban and I was wondering if something would happen to/with Caliban or on the stage or in the theater.

I'm not a big Brona fan, but it was pretty infectious how much she was enjoying herself/the show. She really was like a child experiencing something for the first time, it was sweet.

I'm thinking they're going to keep that painting a mystery for a while, build it up.

  24. Great show. Eva Green is beautiful. I really like his scene with the little girl at the church. Beautiful actress!

  25. I disagree, because it wasn't that Chandler was gay, as much is was about Dorian's ability to seduce almost anyone to his corruptible ways. "The Picture of Dorian Grey" is a Faustian work by Oscar Wild, where Dorian sells his soul to the devil in support of the "aestheticism" movement! Oscar Wild wanted to make a moral point about be tempted by 'shallow' things and ultimately anti this artistic movement. So here they show us how Dorian can create little devils out of everyone, except perhaps Vanessa, whom may have her own connection to the devil.

  26. I think it's intentionally forced, because Dorian is able to seduce anyone as a kind of "ability".

  27. I enjoyed every single moment of this show, some characters I deal with others I love but I get all of them, the acting in the show is so good, and I kind of knew each character so I knew Dorian was going to do his move sooner or later either with Dr. F, Vanessa or Ethan so it wasnt a shocker for me. I love this show so much!

  28. Dorian has lived and done so much, as someone pointed he is the sex demon. He might like and be intrigued by Vanessa but he likes to have fun and he found it right there with Ethan and he went for it. Vanessa is something for longer. Some people doesnt mean anything but sex to him as Bronna, and this time Ethan. So its not really ditching her, is just putting her on waiting. :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Dorian Grey's character is in alignment with the book. He is decadent, willful, lustful, corrupting and calculating. The sex scene is definitely not about Ethan. It is about Dorian's corrupted soul and the lengths he will go to fulfill his desires.

Brona, sorry if I spelled her name wrong is definitely going to be the bride of Frankenstein. After all she is dying; what a wonderful move to have her come back as the beautiful bride. I love this show.

I am wondering who the beast is- the vampire? And the whole Mina and Vanessa connection to the beast. This story line does not follow Dracula's book so I can't figure out the angle, yet. Guess I will have to stay tuned to figure it all out.....
