    Honestly, I'm not sure exactly what to make of it yet....
    Strong writing and performances all around though.

    I will say it pulled me into the show's world and a number of the characters personal struggles. I am a fan of shows that leave me thinking, but the central mystery seems almost secondary, and I'm not sure the show moved me enough to keep coming back week after week.

    Knowing the mystery takes a backseat to exploration of loss and grief does keep me at arm's length honestly. The drama was compelling at times, but where is it going?


    Overall I found it very well done, but not necessarily entertaining. The story or characters will need to grow on me for me to keep watching.

    I liked it but I think this show will definitely divide viewers. A lot of people will not like the mystery aspect being ambiguous and the bleak nature of the show. But I voted great and I have heard from other critics that each episode gets better.

    I saw the screener early and I wasn't too impressed. While the acting and concept were good it ended up being...boring. The acting and concept are enough for me to give the show another try after a few episodes air but I'm wary.

    HBO has set the bar so high lately that this really feels...off (I guess it makes sense though since this is from an outside studio).

    to me this pilot should not make it past the pilot stagg somebody messed up either the writers or the director or both, but one of them should have said to the other maybe we should do a little character building because they didn't do any at all

    I thought the acting was really good and liked the feel of the show. The story itself seemed less interesting, at least in the pilot. I hope the storyline get´s a bit better, since I thought a lot of the characters were interesting. I´ll continue to watch....at least for now.

    It's a little different from what I expected. Kevin is interesting enough as a protagonist but I could do without his children. I didn't see Meg joining the Guilty Remant, especially after she slapped Laurie.

    The one thing that bothered me was that GR was writing on paper - if talking is forbidden, wouldn't if be more practical to use whiteboards or basic sign language?

    Some did use white boards ....
    They showed a black framed white board in one of the first scenes in the compound's kitchen. It was next to the ashtray about ten minutes in... and I thought I saw at least one more on the one of the other tables, but it could have been a white notebook...


    Still, point taken!
    I wondered the same thing. I would think it would be standard issue! XD

    Great, but VERY intense.


    I know already from interviews to not get hanged up on the mystery, even though I suspect that if it's successful that the series will expand from the book and possibly delve into it a bit more. So at this point I'm watching for Kevin and his family and wondering why it is his wife left him for this 'more than friendly reminder' cult and wondering if he' son's situation/cult is directly related?


    The whole the narrative with the dogs, guns, and the deer was so so so sad. These people are so broken, so out of hope...


    At any rate it did more than keep my attention. It was very well done, even though I can't predict where this is all going...I just hope it isn't always nihilistic chaos.

    It was heavy. There were some storylines I could see getting into but overall it was just a lot of sad, depressing and twisted behavior. I'll watch it again to see where it's heading. The cast did a great job and I am impressed with the performances.

    With everything I have read about the show till now, they don't seem to really care about answering the central question of what happened to the 2% who disappeared, and combine that with the fact that this is a Damon Lindelof show, I am a bit hesitant to start watching this show.

    If you want answers you won't get them, the book never gave a reason for the rapture and the show won't be because its not meant to be a mystery. I can see a lot of people not liking it for that reason but its best to know upfront I think.

    I liked it a lot but its definitely a show I would have a hard time recommending to people because its pretty unique and pretty bleak. This isn't a show about answers, I feel like this needs to be said every week at the start of the episode. The book and the show are about the people left behind and how society copes with having no answer for what happened, so you see people finding religion and others losing their faiths, you see people becoming reckless and others trying to cling onto what is left of their lives.

    I mean think about it, think if it really happened in real life, how on Earth would you react? I think that is what really got to me and I found myself crying at times, not even over necessarily sad scenes but just the idea of it happening for real it would be devastating but the "leftovers' can either give up or try to continue.

    But I will say if its anything like the book then there some hope in the end.

    Basically this is a story about grief and that won't be for everyone and whilst I can't really say I look forward to more because it is very dark and soul destroying at times, I am involved enough in the characters to want to continue watching these group of humans struggling with an event so devastating, so messed up that is hard to fathom.


    I'm fascinated with the idea of society having to deal with something so out of the ordinary but this isn't the end of the world, there are no zombies walking the earth, no Four Horsemen - 2% of the population disappeared and life is expected to continue. Really thought provoking stuff.

    Oh thanks for that article. I'm usually on THR every day but I guess things are bound to slip by me. Very nice to know that HBO is willing to go to other studios for projects they have faith in though.

    Still not sure if It will be a weekly watch or not as the exploration of grief is not usually something I will tune into week after week.


    Have to watch it another episode or two and see if the performances are enough to keep my interest... They are fairly strong performances all around, even from actors I have considered talent-less pretty faces in the past! XD

    It was a interesting watch, but After this episode I am just going to hold of till season ends then watch it. I see no point in watching weekly for the grief and drama alone, I rather have it all at once.

    And Like many have mention that This show will now be about answers, to the big question. As apparently there was none in the book? but there was hope. hmm well I think this will have to be 1 or 2 season show, other wise I see no point to it without answers.

    Without answers its basically just a slice of life, and I don't need that. I need good hope at the end, and in a mysterious type of show one also need answers.

    Here is hoping an adaption will take more liberal approach to progressing the story, somewhat like Under the Dome. but even if not, I will watch later.

    Kind off, but it was so action-packed, full of chaos, and at times really violent, that it was more jarring, then point blank melodrama depressing. I mean depression is definitely apart of what's happening to these people, but it wasn't presented in a 'get out the violin' like manner. It has something aggressive, determined, and edgy about it.


    Don't get me wrong, there's definitely some interesting family drama and there were some quieter semi-normal scenes, but I think over all the idea was that this was chaos and that this is a time that's about to spawn some awakenings in people...


    I think it could cool off from time to time and have some moments of hope, but because I haven't read the novel, it's probably too soon to tell if tat's "really" going to be the case, but my first impression is that things are going to get worse for these people, before they can get better...

    I don't know what to think... maybe it's just too bleak for me.
    I can't make sense of what I just watched... the uncertenty of it all drew me away from the show, I think. It's a good show, but it seems like it's not a good fit for me

    I think this is the best way to describe the show.
    What I find a bit frustrating about the show is how easily and fast it changes the focus; one minute it seems I'm really getting into one particular storyline and then it gets drop for another one and so on and so forth.


    I like darkness in television, I like when fiction peeks on the darkness on the human heart, but I need some hope to sway in the middle of it so I won't get that "soul destroying" feeling, and that is exactly what the pilot did to me. I felt it went too far.


    I like how thought provoking it is, it really intrigues me, but at the same time I feel it is very frustrating because of its complete uncertanty; I get that it is the point of the show, but being confronted with a piece of television of which I can't make any sense whatsoever of where it is heading is just really frustrating to me. Don't get me wrong, I like to be surprised, and I love when shows gets themselves cornered only to iluminate the path later on, but with The Leftovers I felt that the show was not cornered at all, that it was walking on a wide empty road going nowhere. And that's it, I think that what drove me away is that I feel the show, in the end, is portraying very powerful stuff but that it ultimately goes nowhere.

    I can definitely see that, there is no clear endgame in a way, though I guess maybe its heading towards people eventually moving on and dealing with it all? That is how I would describe it I guess but yeah i can see why people would be put off by the show or uncertain how to feel about it. It is something different from the usual dramas out there and that something won't work for everyone.

    Yeah, it certainly doesn't work for me, but I have to admit that I admire how everyone involve set this out to be something else from the tv landscape, even if it meant that they would have fewer eyes ball.


    I don't think the show can win me over, and I don't even know if I want to be swept in the show considering how it made me feel, but I will always have respect for what it is actually achieving, which is great performances and thought proviking writing, even if it's not meant for me

    Exactly.
    As a movie I would enjoy it for 2 hours and enjoy it because of how well done it is, but as a weekly series I'm not sure it can keep my attention. I really enjoyed and respected the movie KIDS (Chloe Sevigny, Rosario Dawson etc) for what it was, a dark and twisted snapshot of youth culture, but I would not want to watch it as a series.


    I like the thought provoking aspects a lot, but if those thoughts eventually lead to nowhere it becomes somewhat intolerable for me. Some of the characters need to overcome their grief or accept events... and quickly. Otherwise it is such an overpowering weekly hour of TV that it will lose its entertainment value to me.

    I watched it a day late on the DVR, and at the moment I am not too impressed. I am contemplating dropping it for now. I need to free up a space for The Strain coming next week. Sunday nights are a full night for my DVR. I might revisit The Leftovers on demand after it all airs. In a choice between a Damon Lindelof vs Carlton Cuse led show on competing networks, the Cuse show is my safer bet.

    I finally got the time to see it and WOAO.
    I really dont know what to think, definetly it has a great production, really great performances but i have never been so confused for a show before (only the Lost finale) and it's only the pilot.
    For sure the mistery that is to know what really happened to those 2% that dissapeared will be a kind of a background on the series. I think we will see more of the personal struggles and wether you believe if this is an act of "God" or not, wether you think those people got "saved" or they just went to wherever you believe in.
    About thos people in white, Guilty Remant, right?, is that somekind of cult to see if they can be save from whatever it is that took their family members?.. i just the way they act, going after people, scaring the hell out with their no talking policy, it's not wonder they got beaten, we as human are afraid of things we dont understand and that makes us snap really easily and them showing up with that message, well ....
    I will see more episode to see where all this stories are going, so far it's really interesting.

    I just got arround to watching it and I'm glad I did, it was very intense and intriguing, exept for the crazy people they're a bit creepy and borring. I also loved the cast, and the way it felt so real, so heartbreaking, I can't wait to see what's comming.
