Never mind the Ant-Man director drama. Marvel Studios has found its helmer to bring superhero Doctor Strange to the big screen, with Scott Derrickson signing on to direct the Marvel feature.
Doctor Strange, who made his first appearance in the Marvel Universe more than 50 years ago, in 1963, is a former neurosurgeon who serves as the Sorcerer Supreme -- the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. The character was first created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in the pages of Strange Tales No. 110.

Talks are still early, but sources say Derrickson, who most recently directed “Sinister,” is Marvel’s choice and a deal should be struck shortly.
Marvel had no comment.
The pic will be produced by Kevin Feige, who, over the years, has repeatedly said how badly he wants to get a “Dr. Strange” movie made. Executive producers on the project are Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Alan Fine, Stan Lee and Stephen Broussard.

Awesome. I assume this to be part of "Phase 3" of the MCU?
ReplyDeleteInteresting choice, most of his work is seems based in the horror genre which is different. Now we just need a great Doctor Strange
ReplyDeleteOded Fehr. I want Dr Strange to be a bit older than the norm
ReplyDeleteYep seems like it, I expect it to be formally announced at Comic Con along with the other Phase 3 movies.
ReplyDeleteGreat casting suggestion. My pick is Timothy Olyphant. I think they might go younger, though I just read a rumour about Jared Leto so maybe not.
ReplyDeleteI think if Doctor Strange was a little bit older, in the same age range as Iron Man, he would be more believable if he speaker in the manner of protecting the universe. Such a youngster would feel a brat to me. But then, if they explained something like an old age in a young body, I might believe it.
ReplyDeleteThe other Phase 3 will be probably Thor 3 and possible a spin-off of Guardians of the Galaxy. Maybe Star-Lord will get his own movie. I find it very stupid that they haven't officially announced Thor 3. They found a writer! They fast tracked Captain America 3 due to the succes of Captain America 2 while Thor 2 was successful enough in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteAND WHERE in goddamn is my Bruce Banner fix? A side-role in Avengers 2 is not enough for me and for Mark Ruffalo. Maybe a surprise Phase 3 movie?
I heard about the Jared Leto rumor. Apparently the 4 front runners for the role are:
ReplyDeleteJared Leto
Mads Mikkelsen
Johnny Depp
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
I'd rather Mads personally, but I could see them going with Joseph to keep him away from DC (supposedly they want him for 'The Sandman').
Doctor Strange's look in Ultimate Spider-Man suits Jared or Johnny more though (and I suspect that's what they want the movie version to look like): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWwJ83BtkeY
I need my Bruce Banner fix as well. I wouldn't mind if instead of a Hulk solo, they did some kind of teamup (kind of like Captain America) with one or two other characters. Just give me more Ruffalo as Bruce/Hulk!
ReplyDeleteLou Ferrigno already leaked that a new Hulk movie is coming.
ReplyDeleteFor the love of god, don't cast Johnny Depp. He's been playing Johnny Depp in all his movies for the last, what, decade? Dnw, I hope they get someone else.
ReplyDeleteThat would be perfect.
ReplyDeleteInteresting choice, I loved "Emily Rose".
ReplyDeleteJGL is producing The Sandman but wont be acting in it. Unconfirmed reports suggest that WB/DC want him to both produce and act but he hasn't accepted yet.
ReplyDeleteAhhh thanks I couldn't remember.
ReplyDeleteDoes Disney own Dr. Strange?
ReplyDeleteBUT RDJ IS Iron Man. I don't see anyone taking up his mantle for a while unless they go the Sony way with the Spider-Man reboot. But then, they would be idiots for rebooting Iron Man and Marvel Cinematic Universe altogether for the sake of casting a younger actor.
ReplyDeleteIt has been confirmed that Thanos will appear in Guardians of the Galaxy, albeit not as the big villain. Maybe he will make a bigger cameo or as a side role with pushing Ultron into doing something and watch from afar. Because, he will appear in The Avengers 2 too.
ReplyDeleteYeah I wonder if he is like the biggest big bad and controlling everything.
ReplyDeleteI would prefer that Tony either dies or retires and they just leave the character alone for a bit if RDJ doesn't want to do anymore after Avengers 3. Sony rebooting Spider-man so soon was stupid even if it was so they wouldn't lose the rights.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Tony dying is the only option if they want to keep his legacy intact. It was the Amazing Spider-Man story, I was a little bit okay with it, because that story is a little different. If they redid the whole original story, I'd call that insane.
ReplyDeleteSort of like Loki's story in Thor 1 before he was the big bad in the Avengers.
