MOVIES: Doctor Strange - Is Marvel looking for a younger lead now?

So how about Doctor Strange? Marvel is putting together its cast list, and I’m hearing that Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch are on it. While Marvel has teased this property with mentions in films including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, the film solidified and felt urgent when Scott Derrickson tweeted this week that he will direct the script by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer.

I believe all the other front runners were between the ages of 40 and 50 (other then JGL), so now it looks like Marvel is looking at the under 40's.

I'm still hoping they go with Mads Mikkelsen. I could see Marvel trying to get Benedict for his fanbase though.

  2. How about Pedro Pascal?

  3. I would not mind someone old, but if they were to go young like 35 or below, that would be OK, if that would allow for more movies in the future.

  4. Considering he's supposed to be a hotshot surgeon, I'd rather someone closer in age to Tony-Bruce, so over 40. And after hearing fan-casting, now I want Nestor Carbonell, Alexander Sidding or Oded Fehr. Just not Benedict Cumberbatch, Jared Leto, Johnny Depp or Joseph Gordon Levitt, please.

  5. I never considered Alexander Siddig
wow.. yeah .. that WOULD be good.

  6. Please don't, keep to him being a renown surgeon and therefore having to be older than 35. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Oded Fehr.

  7. I will be disappointed if it's anyone other than Oded Fehr, who looks almost exactly Dr. Strange. He is supposed to be older anyways given he's a neurosurgeon. Its kind of refreshing really. Don't screw this up Marvel.

  8. I agree to everything you just said.

  9. Frankly, they aren't going to put Alexander Siddig's face on posters for a major tentpole action movie. Ideally, this wouldn't be an issue, but homely 50 year old character actors don't get cast as the leads in 100M+ dollar action films.

I know I'm risking a flogging here for saying this (because I know people like him on Covert Affairs), but Fehr is not a very good actor. This role maybe more than any other Marvel role is going to require a strong screen presence, and Fehr's bread and butter is smarmy dialogue.

  10. Awesome that this movie is coming out, I've always enjoyed this character, I would LOVE however if Marvel would release a Black Widow movie and probably go broke in the process of seeing it so many times.
