  1. Really looking forward to this, David Tenant is awesome!

  2. it looks like it's the same story as the BBC America version without David Tennant's fabulous accent. Not sure how I feel about that. Seems that it would have made more sense to just import the one that was already made.

  3. I know, what I'm seeing is a word for word remake. They have said they are going to change the killer, which is good, but I'm not sure I see the point. OTOH, maybe they are looking for the people who didn't see Broadchurch.

  4. Exactly, they are looking for the majority of Americans who haven't seen Broadchurch. And with the change in the story and expansion of storyline, are seeking those of us who have seen it as well. I was following filming the past few months via the internet, and there are some characters not in Broadchurch. For instance, it appears that we will get to learn more about Detective Carver's home life.

The reason the pilot seems so much like Broadchurch is because it was adapted by Chris Chibnall, the writer and creator of Broadchurch, for FOX. And it looks very similar because FOX hired both of Broadchurch's directors, among the four directors involved on Gracepoint. As the story progresses, it will veer away from the original, per the actors involved on the mini-series in multiple interviews. Anna Gunn at the Upfronts indicated that even David Tennant gives a different performance in Gracepoint than Broadchurch, and not just his accent or character's name.

Do realize that very few people have BBC America. Only around 500,000 nationwide saw the series as it aired late last summer...so the market is ripe. Also, many will not consider watching a foreign series because of the difficulty in understanding some accents and won't use subtitles. That's another reason why FOX chose to adapt the story to the US. At least they involved the original creative team and didn't just buy the concept off of them like many times happens when adapting series to the US.

  5. Is this a one season series or what, or cuz UK one is getting season 2, or will they have a new cast new story? Can't ever tell with UK stuff they kill off end stuff re format to no end.

Anyway before I do if I do watch this later, I will watch the UK once first to give Respect. But only because its being remade here, to see why, otherwise its rare for me to watch stuff from there besides DW and Sherlock and Atlantis.

  7. It's definitely worth the watch. Binge it though, or it may seem a bit slow compared to US mysteries. It has a The Killing sort of vibe, but with a UK flavor. Also I recommend "Luther:(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luther_(TV_series) ) too if you ever get the chance.

  8. I watch a lot of stuff so slow ness doesn't bother me.

I will watch it like a week before the US one airs.

  9. I don't really have a problem with the remake and I do think you make several great points. Kinda surprised that people in the UK had a problem with Tennant's accent, as an American I was able to make out everything he said. Now a difficult accent that I did have trouble with, The Ripley character in Luther was a bit rough at times.

I think one of the main reasons for remakes though is a fear of Hollywood to take risks on new projects, Hollywood prefers to go with what they know works.
