Looks epic! I just want the last scene of the episode to show LS. It would make me so happy and it would keep people talking about the show till next year.
I can't wait. This episode is gonna be great. Part 2 of the story-line on the wall. Tyrion's fate will be decided as well, and that should (better be) be epic.
I still can't seem to care at all about Danerys story yet. Maybe the tv adaptation is doing that bit wrong or is that the point? Not really a book reader. I only know the major plot points only I can't seem to read the books given how long between sequels.
On the contrary. If anything the adaptation on Tv makes Daenerys's story (and her in general) look more interesting, with all that whitewashing (to be fair, almost everyone gets the same treatment). Perhaps what's really important doesn't get emphasized properly on Tv. And she's has no idea what she's doing, no end game. It's one of the reasons as to why she's lost many fans after getting to Meereen. Up until that point, it seemed like there was a purpose, and she was very likable at first.
Of course, that's my opinion. I have no doubt many would disagree.
I think that was exactly what GRRM had in mind when he put the brakes on her storyline after reaching Meereen. She had to realize that being a queen is more than just conquering and actually learning to rule. And I totally agree Dany on TV is much more tolerable than the Dany from books at similar point of time even though I prefer book Dany's personality more. The Dany chapters in later books were soooo boring.
Can't effing wait! I wish the whole episode was going to be devoted to Castle Black/Jon again but there is still more to happen elsewhere. I'm curious as to what major events they will keep until next season and what will happen here. I believe I saw a glimpse of a crossbow... ;) so looking forward to that.
I am sincerely hoping the finale ends with a certain Stoneheart (don't Google that if you don't want spoilers)...
Indeed, I barely made through her chapters. It was painful. As someone who had watched the first 2 seasons of the show before reading the books, I did really like her a lot. Of course, I was completely oblivious. I even thought she should be the one to claim the IT since her quest seemed to be so just and noble. My opinion though, even before I got to ADWD changed drastically. IMO she doesn't so much try to learn how to rule and how to be a proper queen, but rather to hide and forget all about the troubles she met along her adventures. If she was really interested, the first thing she should've done, was to ask BS to tell her everything about Westeros (the place she claims it's her by birthright) and actually learn something important, instead of trying to affect a world/culture she cannot understand and it will change (violently most likely) the second she leaves.
So I might have to binge watch this series just to get caught up to the season finale. Season 1 is so dull, but I must power through and get through it.
She's a very cool character on Tv. She's young, strong, beautiful, and she's got 3 dragons for extract coolness. She's practically perfect, almost godlike. Targaryens are supposed to be humans with god complexes, but somehow it's failed to become apparent. All and all a proper Mary sue. They certainly give you that impression and at the same time you don't see her dark side. Sure as hell I bought into it, at first.
Wow, don't remember season 1 being dull at all. No big battle, sure, but plenty of fighting, back-stabbing, heads rolling, everything else that makes the show great. To each their own, I guess.
Here's an awesome literary analysis of Dany's ADWD chapter. You won't think it's such a pointless filler afterwards.
http://meereeneseblot.wordpress.com/essays/
I hate Dany on the show. She's very much a one dimentional character on the show, because in the books you have her thoughts to counter her public actions, or you have reasons given for her actions. You lack all of that on the show so Dany comes off as arrogant and whiny and with a god complex. It's also obvious the writers wanna make her the adult female badass of the show so they try to make her stronger than she is, completly distorting her personality into what they wanna be percieved as perfect and like Jacktbx6 said "godlike" which I don't find as an advantage. I have nothing against strong female characters, but this is just cheesy way of turning her into a CBS-like shallow protagonist.
Although I never got why people lost interest in her once she got to Meereen. I loved Dany's time in Meereen. It was the first time I took an interest in her story unfolding..
Yes, her connection to prophecies and the idea of her with grown dragons assaulting King's Landing or the White Walker army are exciting, but her actual story traipsing across Essos leaving havoc and chaos behind her usually just annoyed me honestly.
I did find it annoying in the books as well, but on the show it is amplified! XD
She basically went from one city to another yelling she was the Mother of Dragons for 2 seasons. They really highlighted her sense of entitlement more than the books.
Many people do, even in the books.. I never got it. To me she is easily the most destructive force in the entire story. She massacres masses with a thought and then goes on her way leaving nothing behind but destruction and chaos.
I always saw her as the least "deserving" claimant to the Iron Throne... until she got to Meereen and decided to take a second to think things through. That was the big step in her evolution as a character to me.
I am in the minority maybe, but I hope they do not give us LS until next season, if at all.
In the books it worked so perfectly to not reveal her until they let people know there is a mysterious new leader to the BWoB. The first view of her should be her approaching a captured Brienne. Which I guess they could reach if they decide to rush Brienne's entire journey basically into the finale episode! XD
I just can't wait until they reveal her is all...it's gonna be so much fun to discuss that character with all the people watching the TV show. I think there will be a huge chance of many people being spoiled if they try to build up to her reveal across multiple episodes having introduced BWoB and their new purpose earlier. It worked well in the books, but to get that shock in the TV show, I think it would be better if they just show her out of the blue with no warnings whatsoever.
But everyone is either in denial(people in KL) or totally ignorant(Dany and many others) of the threat in the North. The most interesting part for me will be how they are all going to be united and who is going to lead them and what happens if and when they win :p
Who's better suited to do that than the only person who actually cares and does something about it (besides Stannis) and actually ends up be the one who will unite everyone and rally them against the common enemy, the bigger threat the world has ever seen. AA/LAST HERO/TPWTP will have to be reborn first of course. Until then we get to enjoy the side-story, which is the damn game of thrones.
My favorite subject in Got. Discussing, (or bashing if you prefer xD) Daenerys. To me it's kinda of the opposite. Until she got to Meerer she at least was trying to do something. Her indecisiveness, foolishness and arrogance there completely ruined her for me. She was already on a pointless, impossible quest already and all this killing and massacring didn't help much anyway. Had she taken the big decision and had landed in Westeros, perhaps I would have respected her more. Or at least she would've been dead lol. No way with 8 thousand Unsullied, 3 baby dragons (untrained and completely out of her control) and a mod behind her, would have been able to accomplish anything. But she could've gotten more support along the way. Things would've been different at least, and my view of her.
I agree with that. Next season would be a better timing to introduce her, after hearing about a mysterious hooded figure from Jaimie's story-line. A revelation out of nowhere would have a bigger impact no doubt, but it would be more dramatic/shocking upon realizing who she is and more of an anticipation after hearing more about the BWOB and some woman who's leading them.
wow, I wouldn't have spotted if it wasn't for your comment, too dark to notice. He's a Lannister and everyone keeps forgetting it...About time the lesson to be taught.
You might be right about the spoilerage, but I think D&D think of their story first and not whether or not events could get spoiled.I hope so at least! XD
Hmm... tying to avoid spoilers is so hard discussing some topics! XD
Personally, I think If you reveal the character at the end of this season it detracts from all the other massive events in the finale. I think it works better as an episode ending than a seasonal ending. It needs context and set up in my mind.
We don't know what the character will do in the future books of course, but honestly the role is very minor in the books we have. It really only affects two character arcs (1 directly) and both those arcs need to be established before the role even makes sense in my mind.
Plus there is just the logistical side of it... When do you introduce the character and how much screen time will they get? Do you have that actor and use them for just a couple scenes over the course of the entire season? Maybe.
I think it makes more sense to have all of the scenes toward the end of next season. If they reveal the character now they may need to create more new scenes for the role to make it worthwhile for that actor. I personally do not want that role to be expanded much (if at all) taking up more screen time in what will be an already very crowded year with all the arcs in so many regions.
I can see the shock value of doing it in the finale, but there are so many shocking events yet to come... I do not think it is needed I guess. As the cold open to next season... maybe? I still think it works best as a mid-season episode ending. Maybe around Episode 5x06 to 5x08...
My pet theory is that Dany will learn her lessons on Essos and in the and her dragons (she could well be dead) will melt down the Iron Throne leaving individual autonomous rulers in each of the Seven Kingdoms.
The first Targaryens invaded and conquered the Seven Kingdoms and it seems poetic if the "last" Targaryen plays a part in healing hem by setting them free.
I agree with you on this! I think somehow Mareene's scenes makes her look much more corruptible, especially because I think you see much darker side to her, even though she is momentarily contemplative. Like you said, what she was doing before makes her look like she's at least trying to figure things out (and I think one sees more innocence in it) and then suddenly it's like she gets stuck and then has a fit, and begins to see the sad consequences of her actions (probably more next season)...
I give Dany a lot of space though, because I know she's young and I often think there could be something that is not in her control in relation to her own role and I also think that one way or another she would be forced to deal with something.unjust if she wanted to survive and even have an opportunity to change things somehow. I think her intentions are good, it's just her methodology often leaves something less to be desired. However, I still think the Game of Thrones could be become obsolete and that maybe there will be a war worth fighting for should the The White Walkers begin to take over Westoros! I think there could still be hope/a place for her down the line, just not necessarily on the iron throne...
"The first Targaryens invaded and conquered the Seven Kingdoms and it seems poetic if the "last" Targaryen" plays a part in healing hem by setting them free."
There would be a great irony depending on the truth behind other things like Griffins, but I still think maybe the idea is that she meant to be a soldier, not a leader and/or like you said, maybe she actually learned something past DWD, although I suspect a change in the wind in general for everyone...
I don;t think many characters are irredeemable honestly... Daenerys definitely is!
I just never thought her motives were all that altruistic like many people. I think Dany (at least through Book V) is too short-sighted to accomplish any real change to centuries old social norms of Essos. Her methods do not appear to be a real attempt to end slavery so much as her acting out. I think she kills slavers and frees slaves because she was basically a slave to her brother and each slaughter is her dealing with the ghosts from her past. It if more vendetta than real social progress.
I'm all for her trying to rid Essos of slavery, even if it means her staying in Meeeren or Essos for longer than most would like. I just do not think that is even close to her actual desire or endgame.
The point seems to be that there is a overweening woman with dragons and on the other hand a guy who serves the people selfless. When we will find out that this guy is the nephew of this woman and the true king this will make sense. But until now it is often boring.
Kind of hoped we'd seen enough of the Wall after this week's episode *sigh*, looking forward to seeing some of the other scenes that should be in it though.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Looks epic! I just want the last scene of the episode to show LS. It would make me so happy and it would keep people talking about the show till next year.

ReplyDeleteOh! Dragons snapping at the end looks cool! I really don't want to watch Cersei and Jaimie get it on though that was hinted in the trailer, yuck.
ReplyDeleteCould be wrong but I think that's just trick editing to suit that line Cersie was telling.

ReplyDeleteTotally agree about what the last scene should be. That would be a MAJOR shocker of a cliffhanger for all the non-book readers!
ReplyDeleteCan't effing wait! I wish the whole episode was going to be devoted to Castle Black/Jon again but there is still more to happen elsewhere.
