Well deserved! One of the best shows on TV ever.
ReplyDeleteGreat news!
ReplyDeleteJust goes to show how wrong many of the nay-sayers were when they were expecting that changes from the books would hurt ratings and that book readers would stop watching! XD
Awesome! I love this show and hope it keeps its fan base all the way to the end :)
ReplyDeleteIt has definitely raised the bar as far as production quality!
ReplyDeleteIt is a fantastic show and deserves all the praise it get´s. The show has all the elements of a great TV Show.
ReplyDeleteIt is really impressive actually but also if you look back at the S1 early ratings it was doing merely OK, this kind of success shows that good series should be allowed time to build an audience, for people to discover them via streaming or boxsets.
ReplyDeleteSimilar thing happened with Breaking Bad which took a few seasons to find an audience and then as last summer showed it had become more than just a critical favourite but an actual pop culture phenomenon, Of course this kind of method of slowly building an audience is something the big networks find hard to do because of ratings and pleasing advertisers and its a real shame because in the past Seinfeld was a complete flop starting out but they stuck with it and it became one of the biggest comedies of all time.
Really great to hear! the quality of the show gets better and better each year , it will definitely go down as one of the greatest shows ever on TV.
ReplyDeleteShocking.
ReplyDeleteKind of a go figure.
ReplyDeleteI don't feel like looking up the ratings but I'm guessing back then it's "flop" numbers would make it a top 20 show in today's world haha.
ReplyDeleteNot at all surprising, the show just gets better and better, and I personally know of a lot of people who are just now really getting into it. Having GoT merchandise everywhere probably helps, haha (the past two days I saw five different stores with a whole wall of GoT stuff)... but yay! This is great news especially since the stupid Walking Dead fan/trolls can now shut up on the GoT message boards how it will never be as popular as TWD.
ReplyDeleteDeserves it. One of the best shows EVER.
ReplyDeleteNot surprising to me at all, well deserved, good job and congrats!
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised S1 didn't do that well. I remember there being alot of press about it especially shock and anger when the "lead actor" Eddard Stark was killed and articles saying they shot themselves in the foot... and... dudes, it happened in the book, they HAD to kill him, to not kill him would have made DRASTIC changes to the story and turned it into nothing more then Fan Fiction. Now, I like me some fan fiction on boring nights, some of if is surprisingly good but that's not what the show wanted to do, lol.
ReplyDeleteGOT is flawless. One of the best shows ever indeed.
ReplyDeleteThe Big Bang Theory wasn't a monster hit right outta the gate either. The first season is the 75th most watched show overall but by the end of it's second was the third most watched comedy on TV.
ReplyDeleteGame of Thrones premiered fairly well honestly.. at least for a more genre based series!
ReplyDeletePeople forget that unlike network TV series that almost always have their highest ratings in a premiere and go down as the season goes on, HBO shows (Thrones specifically) has lower ratings for its premiere and then generally gains in viewership every episode reaching its peak each finale.
On top of that each season premiere has had better ratings than the previous finale. Pretty remarkable to have a pattern with that much of a constant up path!
Using just the first airing episode numbers Season 1 premiered at 2.2 million and the finale had 3.04. Season 2 premiered at 3.86 and the finale had 4.20 million. Season 3 premiered at 4.37 and ended with 5.39. Season 4 started at 6.54 million and has increased to 7.17 million viewers for the most recent episode!.
American Gothic! I remember that show, I have the boxset I keep meaning to watch it properly I only have vague memories of it. Yeah its weird how those shows would be monster hits now.
ReplyDeleteGo GoT! Go! lol
ReplyDeleteI know it probably doesn't count but I think GoT is suspose to be one of the most pirated shows ever as well, so there's alot more viewers right there too but yeah, I don't HBO gives a fudge about that, well beyond trying to stop it so peeps will subscribe to HBO to watch, lol.
Loved that show! Was a slow burning, creepy, full of "who how & what" with a touch of "other worldly" and one you had to figure out for yourself type of series.... the slow burn & thinking for yourself is probably what killed it. It was 5/10 years ahead of it's time.... LOST managed to catch on like wildfire - (with the same above listings) but some shows (think Fringe) struggle, yet are just as worthy.
ReplyDeleteAgreed :)
ReplyDeleteWell they're on the right track a bit since they now offer the seasons of their shows through Google Play and iTunes (I own HBO but I don't think I will after my lease with my roommates is up, so I'm buying True Blood, GoT, and bought Carnivale and Six Feet Under so I can have them whether I have cable or not) but the problem is they release them a season behind, so season four isn't available to buy digitally until a month before season five premieres. If they'd just allow people to buy them when the show is airing I think pirating would go down a bit.
ReplyDeleteI think the fact that they have all the eps on their HBO GO app thing prevents them from wanting to release the new eps on digital form for other apps because it makes theirs seem a bit pointless. I think it would be a good idea though since peeps still need a subscription to HBO to use said app and not a lot of peeps are willing to pay so much for cable/dish just to watch one show.
ReplyDeleteSome areas still don't have access to HBO, on of my friends lives in such an area. He tried to pay for HBO even though his area doesn't have cable/dish networks to hook it up on his tv, just so he could use HBO GO, lol, didn't work. Poor guy. :(
