Redemption? Fuck that. This prick deserves death
ReplyDeleteI don't see how can redeem himself after killing like a dozen people.
ReplyDeleteHe SHOULD die. But I strongly suspect they will make a redemptions tory out of him & he'll have some turning point blah blah blah, repeat 100Xs on TV moment and they will slowly warm up to him over the next 1/2 a season.
ReplyDeletedozen of people = 6?because he killed 6 agents.
ReplyDeleteI don't think redemption is an option anymore I went with "He's locked away somewhere for punishment of his crimes with the option of him coming back later on in the series".
ReplyDeleteI'm all for the redemption of Grant Ward. This is not the real world. Comic books are full of great redemption stories. People like Natasha Romanoff, and even Nick Fury, are responsible for many more deaths than Ward.
ReplyDeleteIt's also worth noting that redeeming him does not mean absolving him of his crimes. Ward has to pay for what he has done and his redemption shouldn't be easy. It requires more than just acknowledging that you've done wrong. It has to be earned.
He killed a bunch of people in the fridge, too.
ReplyDeleteI m with you 100%
ReplyDeletehe needs to die, period. He is now beyond any sorts of redemption!!
ReplyDeletewe saw him kill 2 agents in the fridge,so you can't be sure if he killed more agents.
ReplyDeleteSo if he only killed two then it's okay?
ReplyDeleteA dozen or 6, what difference does it make, the point is that he killed innocent people.
ReplyDeleteI'm fed up good guys who turn out to be bad redeeming themselves. I want a good-turned-bad guy to STAY bad.
ReplyDeleteI dont care if he killed 10,Hawkeye killed less before redeem himself?
ReplyDeleteI like his character so good or bad as long as he stays on. If he is killed and they bring a new character in people will moan the new character is rubbish and if they keep him people moan on here as I've seen with all the tv programs I follow so whatever they do will be wrong. Lol
ReplyDeleteI voted for ''killed off by the team'', mostly because that's what he deserves. However, the most likely situation, I believe, is he'll die protecting Skye. We'll see!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't call the guards at the fridge innocent people. They weren't civilians.
ReplyDeleteLet's not forget that SHIELD, or we viewers, had no problem with Ward killing his enemies until his enemy became SHIELD. His job description was basically to "cross off" anyone who threatened his missions.
What makes his kills for SHIELD any more just? SHIELD's motives weren't always pure either.
Yay!! You guys picked my poll!! Thank you!! :) I love his character and so I would vote for redemption just because I don't see a way for him to stay on the show as a long term straight up bad guy. Plus, there have been way worse characters than him redeemed on other shows, an example that come to mind is Regina from OUAT. In her evil queen days, her vendetta against Snow led to her massacring villages etc. but she has had to make sacrifices and show that she's worthy of redemption and I don't think Ward has passed the point of no return. He's done terrible things, there's no doubt about it but he's not evil for the sake of being evil, there's a lot more behind his actions.
ReplyDeleteI feel even if there is no chance of redemption for him, they could make him sort of like Angel. Where even though he may never be able to have the trust and friendships with the team he used to have, they still let him back and give him a second chance and have his story arch about trying to gain that redemption,
ReplyDeleteI have said other. He should not be "locked away" but he should not be on the team, either. He sees the error of his ways, and wants to do good, but is also on the run, and will show up from time to time, helping as an ally, which the agents will accept in desperation but wonder if it was all set up and a trap for later.
ReplyDeleteA slow redemption in season 2 will be great, for the show and the viewers.
ReplyDeleteMy Wish: A slow redemption arc for season 2.
ReplyDeleteReality: Locked away somewhere, with the option of coming back later in the series.
I didn't like Ward very much until he turned out to be a villain so I do hope he stays that way. HIs feelings for Skye can be real but I don't want it to be a motive for redemption.
ReplyDeleteEverything but #4.
ReplyDeletePlease please do NOT redeem Ward. At least don't have him rejoin the team. Nope.
I think they're setting him and Raina up for a redemption angle. I'd prefer if he had to become a triple agent inside HYDRA so Coulson and the team can fight them better.
ReplyDeleteI vote for Redemption if he really is on Hydra's side. I still think he might be a triple agent. That rumor is going around. Either way, I love Brett Dalton's acting. He brought so many layers to him. So please keep Ward on the show for its entire duration. And I'm a SkyeWard fan! So I want redemption for Ward.
ReplyDelete:)
Why would anyone want for him to be killed if that means losing Brett Dalton? No thanks.
It's simple,haters gonna hate.
ReplyDeleteHow is it possible to hate such an amazing actor who brought so much depth to Ward in the recent episodes? Plus, it's like wishing the actor loses his job. It's a job, after all, people...And did I mention that ratings ROSE with the focus on him? They would be smart to keep him on the show. And I think they will. Brett was really happy about the season 2 renewal on twitter. He wouldn't be THAT happy if his character had "died." So yup, redemption please!
ReplyDeleteAnd Brett Dalton deserves to lose his job? :(
ReplyDeleteI still think there is more to the story here. So I'll wait till episode 22 to fully believe that he is "evil."
ReplyDeleteWell, a redemption storyline lets Brett keep his JOB. So I'm all for it.
ReplyDeleteWell, let's be fair... the ratings probably have much more to do with the season finale approaching and with Winter Soldier's release...
ReplyDeleteThe show after TWS is focusing on Ward.
ReplyDeleteI would say that it’s
ReplyDeletefocusing on the conflict with HYDRA as well as at the team being left with the
organisation they’ve pledged alliance to in pieces.
Very few actors "deserve" to lose their jobs. But that's not a reason to keep a character around past his expiration date. Now personally I voted making him the main antagonist, because I think the character could work that way. I just don't really want a big redemption storyline. I REALLY don't want redemption because of Twu Wuv for Skye.
ReplyDeleteWard has literally been abused for all of his life - first by his family and then by Garrett. And nobody should ever deny Garrett's abuse (which horrifingly enough, keeps happening). I believe he can break the cycle of abuse and turn himself around.
ReplyDeleteShould he pay for his crimes? Of course. But he can be redeemed and saved.
I don't mind the first half of option 4 but I dislike the second half. If he has to be redeemed, I do not want it to be because of his love for Skye. It should be because he realizes what side he's truly on and he cares about the whole team (not just Skye) to want to change.
ReplyDeleteI personally voted for option one. Brett Dalton is a better actor than I gave him credit for and if we do keep him on the show, having him the main villain for season 2 would be the best option for me. I wouldn't even mind the last option either, because I don't want Ward to die, but I don't want him to be redeemed because of Skye. I'm not a SkyeWard fan though, so maybe that's why. But maybe it's also because that route is the number 1 cliche of all villain redemption arcs and I want this show to be different.
I love Skye/Ward, but I want his love for the team and not just her to save him. That would make it so much better. He's already started breaking the cycle of abuse by going against his abuser (Garrett) and defying him when he saved FitzSimmons (he could have opened the door with some fancy button, I'm sure of it) instead of figuring out some way to kill them.
ReplyDeleteI was leaning towards that, but I don't see where he could be safely locked up now that they no longer have the fridge.
ReplyDeleteIf they go down the redemption path then I hope it isn't all resolved in the finale, I want him to have to work for the majority of next season for it.
ReplyDeleteThis exactly! Redemption should not be easy. The team magically forgiving him is not something I want. I believe Ward can be redeemed, but he has to work for it.
ReplyDeleteI say he dies, but he dies a hero
ReplyDeleteBrett Dalton is a good actor and worry not, he'll fit a job elsewhere. It's how the business works.
ReplyDeleteInstead of bringing in someone new they could just keep Trip
ReplyDeleteNo damn redemption arc, please. Kill him or layer him so he can be a major villain at a later date.
ReplyDeleteI for sure don't want to see him as a main villain because that's cruel, don't want to see him dead either.
ReplyDeleteThere will always be other jobs, but what Ward did cannot go unpunished
ReplyDeleteThe entire point is that Ward was never really working for Shield, he was working for the NAZI WEAPON PROGRAM TURNED SECRET SOCIETY THAT TRIED TO MURDER 20 MILLION PEOPLE.
ReplyDeleteThe SHIELD agents he killed were not Hydra. Their motivations were pure insofar as they were there to protect people. The second he shoots two in the back of their heads while quipping is the second he's full blown shit-heel.
Kill him with fire.
I haven't watched this week's episode yet (I probebaly shouldn't have opened this post, should I?).
ReplyDeleteI would like Brett Dalton to stay around but I'm guessing that's almost impossible so I'd like him to sacrifice himself and die a hero.
I don't want him to die, but I don't want him to have a redemption arc either. And I really like Garrett as a villain so I don't want him to be then main villain just yet.
ReplyDeleteI don't really want them to go the route where he switches sides and re joins the team. Either super villain or martyr would be my preferred way for this to go. Would not be the first time a show edited out a character in the first season cause it didn't work. And the way they set up the back story, I do not see him becoming a true villain.
ReplyDeleteYeah, when I wrote the options I did with the intention of including the team in that option as well as Skye like with #3. I wouldn't want his redemption to be over within a couple of episodes either because that wouldn't be as fulfilling or realistic.
ReplyDeleteI love Skye/Ward too and while I do hope they eventually get together, I don't think they should any time soon just because it wouldn't feel natural and very out of character for Skye considering everything he's done. But further down the line - hell yes!! :)
No one HATES Brett, I think, if anything, we are all blown away by his skill these past few episodes. But Brett is NOT Ward, he only portrays him, and a lot of people, myself included, feel that the trajectory of Ward's character warrants his death. Are we happy that Brett might lose his job? Of course not. But many fantastic actors have been lost over the course of many series for the overall sake of the storyline. I love Brett, but I do not want Ward's redemption. So please do not conflate hating Ward with hating Brett because that is simply not true
ReplyDeleteExactly!
ReplyDeleteAny of these could come true, but I hope the redemtion one doesn't come true. F HYDRA.
ReplyDeleteI don't really mind any possibility - as long as it's not a redemption arc. They made him HYDRA, let him STAY HYDRA. It'd be fun to see him kill Garrett (poetic irony, that Garrett raised him to believe that emotional attachement was a weakness, and yet Garrett heavily relies on Ward's attachement to him); on the other hand, I do love the Ward&Garrett relationship. Anyway, I'd love it if Ward remained an antagonist: he was never a SHIELD agent, after all, he came into the organization ALREADY as a HYDRA operative. It's refreshing to watch a supposedly 'good' character turn out to be one of the bad guys, and not be immediately excused by the plot.
ReplyDeleteThere has to be someplace some agency anything because if everything is gone what are they going to do next season?
ReplyDeleteI think next season will be the phoenix from the ashes season.
ReplyDeleteOther: he kills Garrett, goes rogue and becomes a frenemy for the team. That way we get the best of both worlds: we might still get to see him work with Coulson and company if their interests are ever in line, but no one forgives or trusts him. The evil shit he's done isn't swept under the rug, ever.
ReplyDeleteHowever, anything goes as far as I'm concerned OTHER than redemption. I'm so fvcking sick of "yeah, he slaughtered a bunch of innocent people who never did
Yeah, OK, maybe give him to Talbot, muahaha.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually not easy to find jobs. Notice that when actors leave their regular jobs, they tend to have trouble finding other jobs. Cote left NCIS LA like a year ago, and she's nowhere to be found. It's not that easy. Also, Brett is really talented. Him leaving the show would leave a whole for many viewers. I doubt fans would be happy if he was "let go."
ReplyDeleteThe focus has been heavily on Ward. I agree. No one can tell me that he has nothing to do with the ratings rise. Most shows actually get lower at the end of the year due to tough competition. AoS rose recently thanks at least partly to Brett's acting and the Ward storyline.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone is interested, Brett said in a recent interview that SkyeWard is NOT DEAD. I'm going to assume that Ward will survive then. Because otherwise, how would the pairing continue if he "died"? So I'm all for redemption.
ReplyDeleteAnd I honestly would not be surprised if there are more surprises on the way. There is still an option of him being brainwashed/blackmailed/triple agent/etc...In all the recent interviews, those options have been mentioned. So I'll wait till episode 22 to see what's happening.
Except actors merely play characters in a story. If one of those characters have to die, its unfortunate, but yes, the contract ends as well.
ReplyDeleteI don't recall anyone saying ''poor Jack Gleeson, his character just died on Game of Thrones, it could be so hard to find a job for him''. I'm pretty sure most viewers appreciated his character's death. And Ward is pretty much the equivalent on Agents of SHIELD: A treacherous, lying villain played by a great actor.
But, when we watch the shows, we see more the characters than the actors. And that character, he has to die, there's no redemption for him anymore!
I think killing him would be more humane hahahaha
ReplyDeleteIt would be great if they rebuilt SHEILD.
ReplyDeleteI don't want him to be redeemed. He's a million times more interesting as a bad guy and would rather see him continue as a villain and be a thorn in SHIELD's side. Not all bad guys need to be redeemed, its kinda gotten cliché for me. I feel like he's going to be redeemed tho through Skye since she's a special snowflake.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely want redemption for Ward! The more we delve into his character, the more interesting he gets. Regardless of who's side he's on, he's had a fairly rough life by the looks of it. He's survived everything thrown at him by doing whatever needed to be done. I don't think he's evil at all, just well trained and conditioned to his situation. It's really quite sad when you think about it, it seems like all he's ever learned to do is "survive", not 'live".
ReplyDeleteI think that he's been shown a new way to live while being undercover on Coulsen's team. It's messing with his programming (for want of a better word) and he's struggling with it a bit.
I think also that people forget that Shield has trained him too - even if he's under Garrett (who's Hydra). The things he has done aren't that different to what others legitimately in Shield would have (I imagine). This is not to say that him killing is a good thing of course, but I reckon that the spy game, with Shield OR Hydra, would mean doing highly questionable things under orders.
Anyway, can't hardly wait to see what they end the season with ... I for one am keeping my fingers and toes crossed for more Ward in season 2! He's just too great a character to ditch this early on in the story!!! And Brett's just so wonderful to watch!
I have a horrible feeling they might go down the Twu Wuv for Skye route. I hope I am wrong. I have a sick bag handy in case they do :)
ReplyDeleteI voted for 3 but would be happy with 3 or 5.
ReplyDeleteThe man killed in cold blood. Not in the heat of battle, not in self defence, not to protect someone.
He killed twice in cold blood to suit his own and Hydra's mission.
No matter how many ways you spin it was murder. So I dont wanting them to go down the whole saved by love soap opera route. If he changes sides all well and good but he HAS to pay for what he has done, and not by a slap on the wrist.
And dont even think of bringing the actor and his job into it. Jobs end actors move on into other roles. Shit happens as they say. I get that people like the actor and want him to stay but bending morals to suit the argument is going a bit far. Redeem the character but not by allowing him to slip right back onto the team as if nothing happend.

ReplyDelete"He's locked away somewhere for punishment of his crimes with the option of him coming back later on in the series"
IMO unless he turns out to be some sort of triple agent I think redemption for the character will be very hard, but it's a Whedon show so not impossible...
Wonderfully put! You wrote exactly what I was thinking with that Natasha and Fury have done much worse and have turned their life around. So why can't Ward? All those calling that Ward has to die because of all those he killed, yet how many innocents has May killed in her life? It wouldn't be the same without him if he died and I truly don't see him being the big bad evil guy so yeah,I just really miss the group that we fell in love with at the beginning! lol And also like you said, it won't be easy and it shouldn't be, but I completely believe he can redeem himself. I would love to see that happen!
ReplyDeleteAre you seriously comparing King Joffrey and Ward?
ReplyDeleteWell, they are both the most evil character of their respective show, and those are two shows I love, so yes, I do! But it doesn't matter, I could have compared him with any character from any show, really, the point remains the same: Actors plays the role of characters, those characters dies at the desires of the writers and when it happens, the actor's contract end! Wether the character is good or evil or somewhere in between, wether the actor is great or terrible or anywhere in between, no character is safe, and no character ''should be safe so that the actor can ''keep his job'' ''.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with this: "Actors plays the role of characters, those characters dies at the desires of the writers and when it happens, the actor's contract end."
ReplyDeleteWith emphasis on "desires of the writers". :)
I have a feeling that the writers of AoS have tons of storylines for Grant Ward. But that's just my interpretation. ;p
If the writers begin to create their story lines on the idea so that an actor wouldn't loose their job would be silly. But I am sure you were just kidding.
ReplyDeleteI find 1 more interesting than 3, but 3 would be okay too and I find it more likely. But 1 would still be more interesting.
