Favorite scene: Klaus and Hayley have come a long way. They haven’t had many scenes this season, shame on you writers, but this one almost made up for it. Hayley has asked before what would happen to her after the baby is born. Back then Klaus was unable to answer, and I doubt I would have liked his answer. However, after reminding him earlier in the episode that this was THEIR baby, Klaus tells her that he does want her in the baby’s life. He then shows her the nursery which I think is perfect. I wonder if Klaus did it himself, because it kind of reflects his personality. Nothing extravagant, just simple, a little rough around the edges. The crystals, the rocking horse and the most adorable teddy bear I’ve ever seen (which I’m 100% sure Klaus picked out). When she said “Nothing true” to Klaus’ question of what his father said about him showed that Hayley does realize he’s changed. When it comes to ruling New Orleans he might not always make the right decisions but he’ll always protect their daughter. I can’t wait to see these two work together as parents.
Best ‘Oh, that’s not going to end well’ scene: Davina is getting in way over her head. Her helping Mikael is bound to cause major trouble for everyone. We all know how ruthless Mikael is. I’m guessing he wasn’t too happy with the beat down he got from Hayley, and will want a re-match. Also when Klaus finds out about Davina’s involvement he might just kill her. We all saw how made he got at Rebekah and Marcel, and he considered them family.
Best chemistry moment: As you’ve probably figured out from a certain paragraph above, I’m a Klaus and Hayley shipper. However I cannot ignore the kiss between Elijah and Hayley is freaking out about. I think the fact that Hayley and Klaus seemed to have made up gave Hayley that little push she needed to take the leap. Perhaps she thought that now if Klaus found out, he might not mind as much. Or maybe she just thought ‘what the hell’. I know this is a moment a lot of viewers have been waiting for, just like both characters who’ve been dancing around each other all season.
Most pitiful character: Cami had it rought this week (and the one before). Not only is she burying her uncle, people seem to be unable to leave her alone. Do people not get that funerals are not a good place to ask for favors. At least Hayley was gentle about it, same can’t be said for Francesca. She even acknowledges that she’s being rude, however does not seem to care. Can we get rid of her before this season ends?
Dumbest character: Going to continue where I left off with Francesca. Her hands may be clean when it comes to the bombing at the bayou but she’s not exactly playing it smart. Threatening Hayley is about the dumbest thing she could possibly do in this town. If she ever tried anything against Hayley, she would not only have the Mikaelsons on her ass but also the entire werewolf pack. How does she possibly think she’s going to make it through this was when she keeps threatening people. The humans stand absolutely no chance against witches, werewolves and vampires.
Honorable mention: Even though the first scene (dream) didn’t end well, that baby was so adorable. As was the way Klaus smiled at her. I can’t wait to see him as a father.
Best quotes:
Hayley: “You, me, Elijah and the miracle baby all under one roof. Sounds like a bad reality show.”
Elijah: “Of course, how foolish of me. It must have been that other witch that’s been parading through our house in scraps of lace.”
Klaus: “This cycle of misery ends with my child.” Hayley: “You forgot one thing in your attempt to plead your case. She’s not your child, she’s ours.”
I know I promised this would be up earlier, however I got sick this week and was unable to write this until now. Only two episodes left of this season. Tensions are building and are bound to explode in the finale (or even sooner). Check in again next week (or more like this week) for an all new review. Let me know in the comments what you think.
Agreed!
ReplyDeleteKlaus and Hayley would be amazing together as a couple. More like War of the Roses. I can totally see it! The tension that they would create throughout the show and all the storylines would be amazing. I also really like Elijah and Hayley - but I think the show should use this couple to create tension for the main Klaus and Hayley War of the Roses relationship.
I am in total agreement that there has not been enough focus on Klaus and Hayley together this season. The show writers could have played with this relationship, so that the viewer could get a sense of what would likely happen once and or if they become parents. For me the show has been too focused on setting the backstory for all of the different factions and how they relate to one another in New Orleans, that they forgot to really cement the most crucial backstory - Klaus and Hayley.
I am incredibly fascinated by the baby. I don't understand why the show has not delved more into this. It is actually a pretty big deal that a vampire can produce a child. Many mythological underpinnings of vampires as a whole are being destabilized and rethought. So I feel as an interested fan that the show could have spent more time delving into the why's and wherefore's of this myth creation. As a thought, if Klaus and Hayley could conceive once, could they do it again? That's the big question for me. If they can do it again, does that mean he will be able to create a family empire?
On another note, I wish the show would rethink some of their casting choices --- like Marcel, Monique....etc. Like how many times does Marcel have to lose a fight with the Originals before someone gives him a clue that he is a sheep and should just follow the Shepard's. Marcel no longer serves a purpose other then to annoy and distract from the main storyline. He should go. Monique's crazy eye's are a REAL distraction. I just don't get her whole thing .... evil, good, etc....Even so I just don't really care enough to know more about her as a character. The show has done nothing to get me to care either. I think she would be less irritating if there were more older witches in the community.....
Overall this was the best epi of the season for me, because there was a genuine attempt to bring the viewer into the complex relationship of Klaus and Hayley.
I agree with a lot of the comments you made in your piece. I will agree that in epi 20 that Elijah's and Hayley's kiss seemed strange. I will say that generally speaking, I do think that they have a lot of chemistry....something was off.
ReplyDeleteA Klaus and Hayley relationship would suck, as it would just lead to a rehash of the vampire diaries love triangle.
ReplyDeleteFor me the second they decided to make Hayley a love interest for Elijah it became a triangle. Hayley was with Klaus first and got pregnant. So involving her now with Elijah makes her going from one brother (Klaus) to the other (Elijah). Just like how Elena was with Stefan first and then moved to his brother (Damon) - and Elena is no longer into Stefan romantically but it's still a triangle.
ReplyDeleteI think Hayley should have had zero love interests in Season 1 while she was pregnant than in Season 2 they could have had her hook-up with Jackson or something.
Agreed, but the "War of the Roses" (Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas movie) scenario is not the same storyline scenario as the love triangle stuff. Its like they would love to hate one another. Personally, I think Klaus is end game for Hayley, which is why the show is slowly building it. You can see that he obviously wants to help her, be there, etc. however Elijah always seems to jump in before he can. I personally like Hayley with either of them, but PREFER her with Klaus because of all the good story tension it could possibly create.

I like your zero love interest thoughts for sure. Like I said in my post the show should have invested more time in the Klaus and Hayley relationship considering that they are going to have a child together. I personally think that maybe Elijah is a bit confused as he greatly wants his niece and is kinda confusing his feelings with wanting a niece and/or child of his own with having feelings for Hayley. I think it will all get sorted out. This is a big deal Klaus being able to procreate with someone.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the show was foreshadowing with Klaus having sex with one of Hayley's kin. My first thought about that whole scene was did he get that wolf pregnant as well.....what was it about Hayley that allowed this whole baby to come into being? The show has to answer some of this stuff at some point....its weird that they don't explore some of it, so that they can progress into other storylines. This is why I think the writers were being a bit weird in building the backstories of all the other factions rather then answering and exploring some of the more basic ones of the main characters. Get us to care and adore the main characters first then integrate the backstories of the other factions. IMO.
I'm in agreement with your first paragraph for sure.
ReplyDeleteSince Klaus broke the hybrid curse back at the end of Season 2 the only women he's had sex with are Hayley, Caroline (who's a vampire and can't get pregnant), and Genevieve. Although I would like them to address whether or not he and Genevieve were using protection because unless Genevieve can't have children for some reason they should be able to have children. In the flashback to 1919 we saw that Klaus did have a werewolf lover named Lana (who was also a Crescent wolf) but that was back when his werewolf side was dormant.
Interesting idea, but I doubt the show if the writers' explored a Klaus and Hayley romance plot it would go that route given Julie Plec's affinity for love triangles and Elijah's feelings for Hayley. That title so much harkening to the war between the house of York and Lancaster.
