Mark Pedowitz: Beauty and the Beast was renewed because of its "upside potential" and because it's a "fan favorite" #BatB
— TV Guide (@TVGuide) May 15, 2014
CW's Pedowitz stresses Beauty and the Beast had international and social media support that The Tomorrow People didn't have. #Upfronts.
— Lesley Goldberg (@Snoodit) May 15, 2014
"Sometimes it's good to be opportunistic" - Pedowitz on #Flash landing Tuesdays at 8 now that #SHIELD is on at 9
— KSiteTV (@KSiteTV) May 15, 2014
Pedowitz, by the way, isn't commenting on episode orders for #BATB or #HartofDixie. Not sure why that piece of info is under wraps.

CW's Pedowitz on #Supernatural: Bloodlines: "It didn't get there." "[EPs] know we want to develop another spinoff next season." #Upfronts
— Lesley Goldberg (@Snoodit) May 15, 2014
Pedowitz: #Supernatural just had its best season in 4 years. Makes sense to try again -- they'd have spinoffs of its 3 top shows. #Upfronts
— Lesley Goldberg (@Snoodit) May 15, 2014
Because it is fan favorite? Who cares if it has no viewers?
ReplyDeleteinternational and social media support + cbs studios had a lot of money coming in from the international viewers
ReplyDeleteGreat news about the Supernatural spinoff! Let's hope for an origins one or a spinoff that has SOMETHING in common with Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteI think that a key for successful spin-off is to cast some of the recurring characters from original show as leads. Hoping for Charlie spin off
ReplyDeleteI'm curious about the new Supernatural spinoff! hopefully this one's better than "Bloodlines". And what's this bullshit about BatB?
ReplyDeleteWhat does "upside potential" mean anyway?
ReplyDeleteIt makes business sense for CW to hold on to Beauty and the Beast in the following way: because of the rabid fan base, they have a virtual guarantee for the product to be consumed in some way. We don't know how many episodes will be produced. It could be 8,10, 12 etc. We don't even have a slot on the schedule. All this means is that they have a product that at some time in some way will be consumed by its fan base. That's assured. Even if the new season never airs on TV you have a devoted fan base that will most certainly buy the DVD or order through a streaming service of some kind. It makes sense for CW to at least hold on to the legal production rights while they figure out how to bring the product to market.
ReplyDeleteI think they want to see how BatB will do over summer and maybe let it be there, if it gathers solid numbers. I mean it's worth a try.
ReplyDeleteI never watched SPN but if they want to make an other spin off they really have faith in it.
That its ratings are so low it can only go up? hahahaha
ReplyDeleteIt is a ratio of return on investment to the minimum expected returns after taking into account the potential risks. In simpler language, it means that the project is worth the investment. I knew enough that BatB would not get renewed if it wasn't making the network money. So I guess it means that the show is still profitable despite everything. How? Don't ask me, I stopped studying stats three years ago and I don't understand TV business.
ReplyDeleteSo, few people "screaming" online and voting (cheating) multiple times on polls (BaTB) are more important than more people who actually watch a show (The Tomorrow People)... No wonder The CW struggles every single year...
ReplyDeleteThe thing about SPN is, is that there is so many places a spinoff can go. It made no sense that they tried bloodlines when it wasn't connected to the show in any way, when there are so many potential spinoffs that are.
ReplyDeleteI don't really need to know why TTP was canceled. The only thing that matters is that it was.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind a Charlie spin off. I'd prefer an origins one. But anything has to be better than bloodlines.
ReplyDeleteThe only reason I would give Bloodlines a shot, and what me made consider watch the 10 seasons was the cast. The cast was really working for me. But maybe more luck next season.
ReplyDeleteI wish there could be an SPN spin-off about Jo's adventures as a rookie hunter after she initially left the show in Season 2, disregarding her and Ellen's later return and deaths. So much wasted potential with her character. And I need Alona Tal on my TV, in a show that doesn't get cancelled right away.
ReplyDeleteSo I may watch flash, but that will be the only show I'll watch in the fall on the CW. HoD, iZombie and Messengers are all midseason. :( Just tell me how many episodes of HoD Mark, is that too hard?
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that CBS forced the CW to renew BatB.
ReplyDelete"CW's Pedowitz stresses Beauty and the Beast had international and social media support that The Tomorrow People didn't have"... F#ck you
ReplyDeleteUpside potential-what rubbish!!
ReplyDeleteI love to read all this, all our #BATB hashtags complaining here and everywhere worked out at the end..... we beasties are a great fandom!!!! Oh and you international beasties are the best keep Roaring we are being heard after all....
ReplyDeletehttp://www.latestmobiletouch.com
ReplyDeleteMTE.
ReplyDeleteI'm just happy that Beauty and the Beast got renewed for season 3.
ReplyDelete"Fan favorite" who are these fans? The general public or the fans of the show. By that logic then every show should be renewed because they are "fan favorites" to whoever watches them
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mark. Beasties did it once again ! Well done everyone !!! We'll keep supporting BATB no matter what.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't care how many eps we'll get, I'm just happy with season 3 and we'll of course fight for more :)
I was watching TTP on MTV (yeah here MTV is like The CW they have The 100, The Originals, The Vampire Diaries and Coming soon Reign xD) and i was enjoyning it , sad it was cancelled i like it beeter than B&TB and if we are going on renew things cause of "fan favorites" then TVD will last 20 seasons D:
ReplyDeletePerhaps since they're still gun-ho on a SNS, that Kripke will get involved since Revolution is done?
ReplyDeleteAs the producers of Glee... S5 finale .6 demo and under 2MM viewers and yet, based on coverage on entertainment sites, you'd think it had TBBT ratings.
ReplyDeleteI know, right? Since when do the fans matter? The Secret Circle also had a lot of fans, as did a ton of other shows they mercilessly cancelled.
ReplyDeleteNo, fans have nothing do with the CW renewing it.
So beasties made BATB get renewed over The Tomorrow People, good for them, it's a pitty they made me stop watching it. I'm out.
ReplyDeleteI agree. That's the main reason the Bloodlines pilot failed. It just wasn't a spin off. Had it not been a SPN spin-off, it might have been treated differently.
ReplyDeleteSo how about this time for the Supernatural spin off--they don't use the stolen formula of "my woman is killed and I have daddy issues" combined with The Vampire Diaries/Originals warring monster factions plot device. Be original! How about a character that is similar to Eliot Ness--who didn't get into hunting because he lost somebody, but because he simply found out about monsters and likes to hunt them. It would be interesting to follow him as he learns that not all "monsters" are monsters and that as he meets more people, hunting begins to become personal for him. OR! Use an established character like Claire Novak. She should be about 18 now and can be recast--and think about her introduction to the supernatural--it was probably more traumatic than Sam's and Dean's. I would bet her mother might have gone crazy (or been accused of being crazy after all the possessed by a demon talk) and she was put in foster care for the remainder of her childhood. And since it's been established that angels can leave part of their grace behind (Gadreel left his in Sam) that she has some of Castiel's grace in her and it like "activated" during the fall and she has visions or can sense where evil is. Or heck, she's like a religious zealot (because she knows angels are real) and goes around smiting evil--but she's still an interesting character because her zeal is a hindrance. Something, *anything* than "Supernatural in The Vampire Diaries world."
ReplyDeleteWhy don't they ever learn? The first SPN spin-off didn't pan out so they want to try again? It'd be okay if it isn't a copy of some other show. Bloodlines was just a copy of The Originals. They need to dig deep & come up with something original.
ReplyDeleteThe upfronts has started! From the media tweets, it looks like Jane The Virgin has a general positive reception, surprisingly.
ReplyDeleteStill upset about TTP, what a bunch of bull.
ReplyDeleteThey need to bring TTP back. If it had international supposrt it would've blown BATB out of the water. What really suck is, BATB got renewed for a 3rd, but they dropped the episodes wayyy down to 13!!! Really?? what was the point of renewing it anyway if they were gonna do that? You dropped a really good show for a 13 episode run?? That's just an epic fail all around. smh
ReplyDeleteCBS probably made a deal with WB regarding the fates of Mentalist and BaTB. CBS will renew Mentalist and the CW will keep BatB.
ReplyDeleteYeah, makes no sense. Critics loved Life Unexpected (as did I) and The Secret Circle had vocal fans. Why now do they cave to social media support?
ReplyDeleteWithout CBS the CW would most likely cease to exist, the fans just have to accept ridiculous renewals like BATB and move on.
ReplyDeleteYou "beasties" (what a stupid name) are just known to be crazy!
ReplyDeleteThe words BATB and potential can only be used in the same sentence if said sentence reads "BATB has potential too get 0.0 ratings"
ReplyDeleteI am hoping for Golem spinoff. Such an interesting, fresh and adorable characters, good actors, lots of potential with some comedy involved. And Adam Ross (Aaron) just tweeted that he would love to do it. Please, no more stupid teens with their love problems.
ReplyDeleteThis is either BatB's last season or it will get like six episodes next season. By the time it comes back only the really really hardcore fans will watch and I am betting it's season three ratings drop even more.
ReplyDeleteThey should decide on a SPN spinoff fast and introduce it over the course of the season, not throw a bunch of stuff in one badly written episode.
And I'm hoping The 100 is getting another limited run and not 22 episodes.
So basically TTP got cancelled for not having a few hundred annoying winging fans like BATB? Makes sense, words cannot express my frustration BATB was renewed. I now just openly hate the show and the irritating fans now. THe Secret Circle was massively popular and vocal yet got canceled? This network is as fucking ridiculous and pathetic as the fans.
ReplyDeleteI have heard CW shows do really well on streaming platforms, and I have noticed they tend to be posted more quickly to Netflix than other network shows. Perhaps Netflix is paying a high fee to deliver those shows to their customers or something? And if a lot of the fans buy episodes on iTunes that could be a factor as well.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many episodes Hart of Dixie is going to have next season. I'm hoping the show isn't ending next year, though it might possibly.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't need to be about two hunters. It could be:
ReplyDelete- A Castiel spin-off, a newly human Cas trying to find his own way in the world away from Sam & Dean. Leaving the nest, so to speak.
- A Garth spin-off, where Garth has to come to terms with being both a monster and a hunter.
-The adventures of Charlie and Dorothy in Oz.
- A prequel about the Men of Letters focusing on Henry Winchester.
- A prequel focusing on Mary being raised in a hunter family that has a permanent home.
- A prequel focusing on John becoming involved in the hunter lifestyle while raising Sam & Dean.
- A prequel focused on Bobby, with occasional appearances by Rufus, John, and young Sam and Dean.
- A prequel focused on Elliot Ness.
As far as Supernatural goes, do a Men of Letters spinoff for freak sake. It's the best idea going...
ReplyDeleteyou can't cheat on polls ( there are some sort of ''stuff'' that stop you from voting multiple times ) // they're using them here in spoiler tv as well
ReplyDeletewhy is it ttp over batb ?? // there are other shows coming this year plus other shows that got renewed or were in the buble ... i don't get it --- i guess 'cause i like both shows // glad about batb , sad about ttp
ReplyDeleteI swear last year The CW tried to do a Dorothy pilot, now they have Charlie and Dorothy in Oz fighting the rebellion so it would be the perfect chance for them having a spinoff! I would prefer a John Winchester spinoff based on the Supernatural Origin comics though.
ReplyDeleteIt depends on the sites. You can cheat on a lot of them, not all the polls are set so that People can only vote once.
ReplyDeleteWhat about The Secret Circle, There are still fans out there that talk about it :) aka me. I still miss that show and still think they should have renewed it since its "on par with Beauty and the Beast"
ReplyDeleteI think Pedowitz is waiting to see how the new shows fare before giving us how many episodes of Hart of Dixie or Beauty and the Beast. I am not sure how many epsisode Who's Line typically has or ANM but there doesn't seem to be room on the midseason schedule for both shows unless both of those shows end midseason. I am glad we have a season 3 on BATB so I can forget about most of season 2, but I really do not want to have to wait until next summer to see the show return, especially if the last 6 episodes bring back the season 1 feeling for me. Like it or not or agree or not, but that is what got people watching and why many stopped watching in season 2, IMO.
ReplyDeleteall I can say about this discussion and unfavorable comments about BATB is, do not blame the program for your show not being renewed. We fans of the BATB feel bad for you however we are ecstatic our show was renewed and there is no need to slam them.. They are terrific actors and it is a great romantic drama that deserved to be renewed.
ReplyDeleteCW always cancels good shows-will Never watch a new CW show again #StarCrossed
