The CW is dangerously close to letting love geometry ruin another great show. They need to stop it now before the whole thing devolves into a hot, unwatchable mess.
I don't mind Octavia and Lincoln so much. I'm not sure he needed to kiss her when he did. Bit soon, buddy. Buy a girl dinner first! I don't see it as a triangle with Jasper either. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be really. We know he likes her but I don't think it's reciprocated.
As for Clarke/Bellamy/Finn/Raven... well, it's borderline for me. I don't know if Clarke's anger with Finn is all she's feeling towards him or if it's just a coping mechanism for her, hide her real feelings and all that but... I appreciate that they've managed to keep her character and her integrity intact over these last few episodes. Yes, she's struggling a bit more with things but I think that would have happened anyway even if she and Finn hadn't hooked up. Obviously she's found it harder without Finn to lean on recently but as she learned herself this week Bellamy isn't so bad to have around and he's feeling a lot of the same stresses she's feeling. Finn isn't all she has, she can do it without him. I still don't think Clarke and Bellamy are going to hook up anytime soon, that may be where they're headed but for now their dynamic is still one of the most interesting on the show, so similar in some ways but so very different in others.
Anyway... I picked Bellamy hallucinating Jaha for my favourite scene this week. Closely followed by he and Clarke having a group cry :)
We've known, or suspected, for a while that Bellamy wasn't taking the repercussions of his actions lightly but it was somewhat of a surprise to see them visually manifest themselves like that. It's eating away at him more than I thought. Even him using Octavia as justification for his actions seems to be eating him. He knows that they were ultimately his choices, his actions. I liked the scene he shared with Clarke because up until now only the viewer has really seen the other side to Bellamy. The flashbacks of him and Octavia on the Ark a few episodes back showed us a completely different Bellamy but nobody else got to see that. By having him actually open up to Clarke she got to see what we saw in his hallucinations, to see a little bit more of him than what he's shown her so far. :
I enjoyed Bellamy and Clarke's development together in this episode so much. Their scene by the tree was their best scene yet. Bellamy was going to run away and hide out but Clarke got him to go back, to have some hope. These two need each other, definitely. One can't lead without the other.
I liked the last scene with Diana. I love to hate her. She's very interesting so far.
I don't think having "love" on the show makes it weak. Lots of young viewers watch CW and love romance. You have to have a good mix of everything: action, romance, drama, etc...A show is always better with many ingredients in it. I really don't get invested in shows without romance because those shows are unrealistic. Love is part of life. It's an emotion we all feel. And it's an emotion that should be explored.
This show has many ingredients in it. And I love that.
I voted for Bellamy and Clarke opening up to each other. This was actually a hard poll for me because I also loved the scene where Bellarke get Jaha to pardon Bellamy. Just the look of joy on both of their faces was great. Bellamy teaching Clarke how to shoot a gun was also a great moment. As well as the scene where they both saved each other when fighting Dax.
So that's a lot of great Bellarke scenes in this episode. But I'm still going with the Bellamy and Clarke tree talk. We've never seen them open up like that to anyone else in the gang. So it was refreshing. I love that Bellamy has layers to him. Good and bad traits. It makes him more interesting. If he was just a one dimensional "evil" guy, people wouldn't root for him. But he obviously has a good heart. And I loved that Clarke also opened up about not wanting to speak with her mother. It was just a nice bonding moment for them. And I got a very "Beauty and the Beast" fairytale feel in it because he said "I'm a monster." And she told him that she needs him. That everyone needs him. Beautiful acting job by Eliza and Bob as usual. These two actors continue to amaze me. They're so talented. And they understand their characters.
To add, love is part of life. It's realistic for characters to fall for each other. They are human beings. A good show can have a mix of everything: love, drama, action, adventure, etc...You need several ingredients. And keep in mind that this show is on CW with lots of younger viewers who love romance. The only thing I personally dislike is the silly love triangle with Finn/Raven/Clarke. I will always prefer the careful building of Bellamy and Clarke's love story. The writers are being careful with them. And I love that.
I'm sure we'll have to wait for Bellamy and Clarke to happen for a long time, at least till the end of next season. I don't want it to happen too fast.
I'm so glad I didn't stop watching the show because it got better and now I'm practically addicted.
There's a difference between having romance and having the love triangles being the main plot. Lots of tv shows have romance and love triangles and I don't see people complaining that much unless it's a CW show. This show is not even close to reach the level of love geometry of other shows like TVD.
There was so much good scenes in this episode (as always). I picked the scene where Bellamy and Clarke open up to each other as the favorite scene of the week. I think their relationship is dynamic. Two leaders with different styles but yet the same goal is an interesting dynamic. I don't mind romance but the triangle with Raven, Finn, and Clarke is a bit too much. Finn is being used a plot device and I can honestly do without him. In such a dark world as The100, love is needed or they will all go crazy or just plain dark. "Take hope out of the heart of man and he becomes a beast of prey." (Marie De La Remme).
The writers are building Bellarke on every level. :) Emotionally and physically. :) Did you notice the recent subtle touching that's happening? And how he is now calling her "Clarke" more and more?
Exactly! Even if you like them as individuals and/or as a couple that scene was gross on so many levels. Her licking the water off him, ewww! Then him half heartedly trying to "talk" to her but not needing to be told twice to shut up and get down to business. Gross. Gross from him, sad from her. As much as I don't like or want more of the love triangle stuff I really hope they give Raven back a bit of self respect in regards to this.
I just really like this show. It's the first show in a very long time that I've found myself thinking about after I watch an episode. I've even watched a few of the episodes twice! It's also the first show in a long time where I've felt the need to come online and find people to discuss it with. It's thought provoking and it's nice to come online and see that others have had thoughts provoked too, and not just thoughts about who should end up with who and why this "ship" is better than that "ship".
I doubt Raven will have any self respect. In an interview with the actress she said that she might solve her problem by lying underneath someone (I hope she does not drag Bellamy into this mess).
If you look on IMDB, she's listed for nine eps this season and we've already had her for a bunch. UGH, sounds like she's here for the finale at least this season.
IMDB is always wrong about episode number. I think they listed Finn for like 7 episodes before. And he's been in all the episodes thus far. Lindsay (Raven) went to the recent WonderCon Panel, and that's a bad sign. It means she'll probably be featured even more in season 2. :( I really don't like Raven at all. I think she'll probably be a regular, unfortunately...Even though most fans could care less about her. Perhaps if the writers see that fans dislike her, they won't feature her so heavily in season 2. But they seem to like the actress on twitter. :( So I don't know.
Of course I noticed. It's what I crave for every week. hehe Bellamy is already halfway in love but I don't think he'll act on it. Plus, Clarke is not into him just yet. At least, that's what I got from watching. I'm wondering if people are right about Raven and Bellamy hooking up this season. It could happen and I'm curious to see what will push Bellamy into that direction. Probably another fight with Clarke. ;)
Her being on the WonderCon panel is not a good sign, plus I think they keep her around for her tech skills. Nobody else so far has her technical skills .... Monty did not get the radio to work. Hope they develop Finn's story line, if it is just Bellamy and Clarke it is too boring. Jasper is going to be Bellamy's right hand, I am very curios about this.
They finished filming S1 before the show even aired so now they can't change anything. They didn't know how the audience was going to react. Raven can come back in S2 but I hope her and Finn get killed off next season.
Me too! This is by far my favorite show right now. It is much more than just a ship show and I re watch episodes all the time. I do like Clarke and Bellamy and how Jason Rothenberg's writing makes me think.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeletei think your post/article title is missing something. it's not obvious what this post is about from the homepage
ReplyDeleteSorry. You are right. I copied it directly from the Last Week in TV article and forgot to add best scene poll to it. It's fixed now. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI think the couples make it interesting. But I want them to explore more of Earth instead of staying in that one little camp all the time.

Who voted for Finn/Raven sex? It was cringeworthy :S Raven thinking sex will solve their problem and forces herself on an injured Finn.
ReplyDeleteRaven makes me gag. She's still listed as a guest star, hope it's not for long.
