TBS has given the greenlight to the character-driven police comedy Angie Tribeca (working title), the brainchild of Steve and Nancy Carell. Rashida Jones (The Office, Parks and Recreation) stars in the satirical look at police procedurals, along with Jere Burns (Justified, Dear John), Deon Cole (Conan, Funny Business) and Andree Vermeulen (Laid Off, NTSF:SD:SUV). Angie Tribeca is being executive-produced by Steve and Nancy Carell through their Carousel Television, along with Campbell Smith (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) and Thom Hinkle (I Bet You). Steve and Nancy Carell also wrote the pilot, which was directed by Steve Carell.
TBS has ordered 10 episodes of Angie Tribeca, which is slated to premiere in 2015. The single-camera comedy focuses on an eccentric but brilliant group of LAPD detectives who investigate crime, reveal way too much personal information and refuse to rest until justice has been served…sort of. Jones plays Angie Tribeca, a lone wolf who's capable, committed, strong and not thrilled when her boss (Burns) tells her she has to work with a partner (Macarthur).
Making guest appearances in the opening episode of Angie Tribeca are Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2, Chocolat), Lisa Kudrow (Friends, Web Therapy), Gary Cole (Pineapple Express, Office Space), Nancy Carell (The Office, Bridesmaids), Hayes Macarthur (Life as We Know It, Go On) and Matthew Glave (Growing Up Fisher, Perception).
"Angie Tribeca is a hilarious spoof of police procedurals in the spirit of The Naked Gun, with a terrific cast and a wickedly funny point of view," said Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). Adapted from Keshet’s Israeli series Your Family Or Mine, from Sony TV and Jamie Tarses’ Fanfare, revolves around Oliver and Kelli, who are living proof of the adage, “When you marry someone, you don’t just marry them, you marry their whole family.” Each episode focuses on a different side of the family: one week featuring the couple dealing with Kelli’s family, the next spent with Oliver’s. The cast includes Richard Dreyfuss and JoBeth Williams. Malins is exec producing with Tarses, Rubi Duanias, Yaniv Polishuk, Avi Nir, Ran Telem, Tamira Yardeni.
The Buzzy's one sounds good. The cop one kinda sounds like Brooklyn 911 but I only watch 1 or 2 eps of it when it came on, so I could be wrong.
ReplyDeleteYes to Rashida Jones on TV, I like her a lot. With her in a starring role, Steve Carell's involvement, the single-camera factor and the subject (satirical look at procedurals), this could be an absolute winner. The sad part: it's on TBS, I wish it were on a more respectable channel for comedies (FX, NBC, HBO, IFC). I haven't been taken by any of TBS' shows yet :
ReplyDelete- Ground Floor was just cookie-cutter multi-camera sitcom, well done but devoid of any surprise.
- I've never been as a big a fan of Cougar Town as the internet and Abed seem to be. It's sometimes great, but it always tends to be more of a romantic comedy and/or a dramedy wanabee in the second part of each episode (there's always a big dramatic moment around the 14 minute mark before the commercial break, always). They think they develop their characters but they really don't, they hit the reset button at each episode. I don't care for couple problems, or Bobby being stupid, or Christa Miller being mean (same character in Scrubs, which was also plagued by that predictable structure, instead of being a straight-up comedy without any drama, because the comedy bits are often very good).
- And they air reruns of TBBT, and TBBT is the worst (I'm sure one of the B's stands for Britta).
That's why I'm a bit dubious when it comes to TBS. But they'll start airing new American Dad episodes next season so if I don't see any change in the tone (and since it takes so long to produce them, no way it could be toned down just because it's no longer on FOX) I won't have that negative view of TBS.
We have will one month break from AD bc its gonna air in July on TBS.
