A weekly feature in which we're trying to find most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great scenes that we've seen recently.
24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY, "Day 9: 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.", May 12, 2014, Actor: Kiefer Sutherland
The Scene: Jack decides to shoot a few protesters
Brandon Rowe: Jack decides to shoot a few protesters in order to get into the embassy. Also picked by Bradley Adams
ARROW, "Unthinkable", May 14, 2014, Actors: Stephen Amell, John Barrowman, Manu Bennett and more
The Scenes: Thea and Malcolm talk & Oliver and Slade fight & Oliver says "I love you" to Felicity
CJ Allan: The exchange between Thea and Malcolm. John Barrowman has been missed in this show.
Daniel van der Veer: In their last battle, Oliver and Slade fight as equals after Slade got the cure for the Mirakuru. Flashing back and forth between the fight from five years ago and the present day fight in Starling City made for an epic and intense scene. A great way to end this great season of Arrow.
Bradley Adams: The fight scene. Woah that was good. To have two fights happening in the same scene in two different times was genius, and it was a treat to watch. Also picked by Macie Potts and Pablozky21
Jamie Coudeville: I know it was a ruse, but look at his face! He meant every single word of it, I will not be conviced otherwise. I freaked out so much during this scene. Could barely remain in my seat of excitement.
BABY DADDY, "Flirty Dancing", May 14, 2014, Actors: Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Derek Theler
The Scene: Danny calls out Ben on his behavior
Klutzy girl: Danny finally has enough and calls out Ben on his behavior. He's a terrible person and still doesn't seem to get what he's doing is wrong, but it was a long time coming. Hopefully he realizes how Danny feels about Riley soon.
GAME OF THRONES, "The Laws of Gods and Men", May 11, 2014, Actors: Peter Dinklage and more
The Scene: Tyrion's speech at the end
Justyna Kubica: I don't always enjoy the show as much as I would like to but then there are these moments when I really do. This scene is most certainly one of them. Peter Dinklage absolutely stole this week's episode. And I love it when he does that, considering what an amazing actor he is and how much I root for his character to survive all the horrors of Westeros. The trial was not an easy thing to watch. It's hard to stand all the lies and the obvious and very public Tyrion's humiliation. But I never knew how much I enjoyed Tyrion and Jaime's relationship until this week. For a second I was actually thinking what would happen if Tyrion joined the Night's Watch and met Jon there. Great potential in this storyline. But anyway, it's hard to beat seeing Tyrion finally standing up for himself and saying what he (and many others) was honestly thinking at the moment. Enough is enough. Such a powerful speech! And a stunning performance. I guess I know who's my pick for the awards next year. The final stare-off between Tywin and Tyrion was fantastic. Kudos!
CJ Allan: That whole scene was amazing to watch. Dinklage will get an award for that.
Brandon Rowe: Tyrion goes absolutely nuts when Shae testifies against him. Also picked by Sandi wich
GREY'S ANATOMY, "Fear (Of the Unknown)", May 15, 2014, Actors: Sandra Oh, James Pickens, Jr. and more, The Scenes: Cristina and Meredith's dance off farewell & Webber learns he has a daughter
Tonya Papanikolas: Webber learns he has a daughter! I know this was a Cristina sendoff week, but we all knew that was coming. This was the scene that surprised me, came out of nowhere and left me saying wow. Great twist. Meredith has another half sibling. Can't wait to see where this leads.
Babar Suhail: Cristina comes back to dance it out with Meredith. Klutzy girl: It was so sweet, and I'm really going to miss the character and Sandra.
HANNIBAL, "Tome-wan", May 16, 2014, Actors: Michael Pitt and more
The Scene: Mason cuts off his face and feeds it to Will's dogs
Geo N: The entire scene was gory and awesome! Especially the part where Mason cuts his own nose off and eats it then says, "I'm full of myself". Lol, it was funny. Also picked by Macie Potts
HART OF DIXIE, "Second Chance", May 16, 2014, Actors: Rachel Bilson, Wilson Bethel
The Scene: Zoe and Wade talk at the end
Tracie Pontolillo: Zoe tells Wade that she will prove that they have a future and she won't give up. This scene was just perfect. For the first time in 3 seasons Zoe knows exactly what she wants with Wade. She was strong and confident and is willing to fight for what she wants. And by Wade's smile as she walked away, it won't take long for him to come around. Wade and Zoe are on their way to being back together.
MARVEL'S AGENTS OF SHIELD, "Beginning of the End", May 13, 2014, Actors: Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, The Scene: Fitz and Simmons say goodbye
Justyna Kubica: And once again I have to go with the FitzSimmons scene as my favorite. In such a brilliant episode, full of really great and very entertaining scenes, the most memorable and emotional one for me is Fitz pretty much telling Simmons how he feels and sacrificing his life to give Jemma a chance. I can't even tell you how much I hope he's gonna be okay, since things certainly did not end well for him. Simmons' breakdown when she realizes it could be a final goodbye was so incredibly sad. I love these two together (friends or more) and I can't imagine losing one half of FitzSimmons. It's a very heartbreaking moment, beautifully performed by both actors. Kudos! I have to say, it was such a brilliant season, the show has truly become of my favorites. And the finale was just what I wanted it to be. Coulson and Fury were so fantastic together! Those two had the best lines, especially when they confronted Garrett. Brilliant! It's gonna be a long hiatus this summer!
MODERN FAMILY, "The Wedding (Part 1)", May 14, 2014, Actors: Aubrey Anderson-Emmons and more
The Scene: Lily goes into the Dry Cleaners
Geo N: The scene where Lily goes into the Dry Cleaners to get Cam's shirt for the wedding. I laughed so much when she got caught on the carousel. Lol.
NASHVILLE, "On the Other Hand", May 14, 2014, Actors: Hayden Panettiere, Jonathan Jackson
The Scene: Avery asks Juliette why she cheated on him
Tonya Papanikolas: Avery shows up (the second time) to ask Juliette why she cheated on him. What an emotional scene! I thought Hayden Panettiere did a great job. I loved how Juliette looked within herself to answer why she did it, explaining how she never had love and always tries to destroy herself before someone else hurts her. You felt so bad for Avery but then suddenly you felt for Juliette, too. It was quite the speech and Panettiere's acting made it a standout scene.
NCIS, "Honor Thy Father", May 13, 2014, Actors: Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette and more, The Scene: Jackson's funeral
Daniel van der Veer: The season finale once again focused on Gibbs, but we did not see the usual tough agent we're used to see. Instead, after his father's passing we see him struggling with emotions, though Gibbs would probably never admit that. The funeral was an emotional scene, and a fitting tribute to actor Ralph Waite.
Tonya Papanikolas: I liked that the whole NCIS team was there to support Gibbs and attend the funeral. Jackson's character always anchored Gibbs and infused him with more compassion and humanity. He gave Gibbs a more personal side that we don't often see. So the flashbacks throughout the episode were also nice. I will miss actor Ralph Waite! The funeral was a nice tribute to him.
ONCE UPON A TIME, "There's No Place Like Home", May 11, 2014, Actors: Jennifer Morrison and more
The Scenes: Regina and Emma talk at the end & Charming and Snow fall in love again & Hook and Emma at the end & Emma reunites with her parents
CJ Allan: Regina and Emma at the end. Regina's heart breaks when seeing Marion. Never meddle with the past.
Samy Bgs: Charming and Snow fall in love with other again.
Virginia Fontana: Hook tells Emma how he traded his ship to get to her and they kiss. There were so many wonderful scenes between the two in this episode, and this was a very lovely culmination of all that protracted longing and flirtation. Klutzy girl: Emma reunites with her parents after going to the past and calls them "Mom" and "Dad". Hopefully it sticks this time.
PERSON OF INTEREST, "Deus Ex Machina", May 13, 2014, Actors: Amy Acker, Michael Emerson and more
The Scene: The end scene (picked by Bradley Adams)
REIGN, "Slaughter of Innocence", May 15, 2014, Actors: Torrance Coombs, Toby Regbo
The Scene: Francis and Bash reunion
Justyna Kubica: I wasn't sure which scene should I pick as my 3rd choice this week but seeing the brothers reunion on Reign was such a lovely moment that I felt like it needed to be here. First of all, I hate triangles, I really do. They have a way to ruin the show for me, which is probably why I had to skip a few episodes of the series this season. It's a shame, since it's a very interesting one. But eventually I found my way back and now I'm glad. I just really missed seeing brothers bond on TV lately. It was quite rare this year which is another reason why this hug felt so special to me. Despite all their differences in the past, Francis and Bash really love and respect each other. And it was so nice to see that even after everything that happened, the second their father was announced dead and Francis became king he just needed his big brother and his support, nothing else. It was a beautiful shot and most likely it's the shortest scene I ever picked as one of my scenes of the week. I guess I just really needed it. Hopefully we'll get even more brothers moments like this one next season. Can't wait!
REVENGE, "Execution", May 11, 2014, Actors: Emily VanCamp, Madeleine Stowe, Henry Czerny and more
The Scenes: David Clarke stabs Conrad & Emily locks up Victoria in the mental institution
Samy Bgs: I'd wanted Conrad dead for a long time and seeing David Clarke (coming back from the dead) stab him was perfection! Dying to see what happens in season 4!
Pablozky21: A perfect finale for a great season of Revenge ends with Emily actually getting some revenge. For me there was no greater pleasure than seeing Victoria in such distress and Emily so satisfied by finally achieving her goal: make Victoria's life a living hell. Beside, it's hard not to pick this scene with the perfection that it is hearing Victoria screaming "She's Amanda Clarke! SHE'S AMANDA CLARKE!" Also picked by Jamie Coudeville
SUBURGATORY, "Stiiiiiiill Horny", May 14, 2014, Actors: Jane Levy, Parker Young and more
The Scene: Tessa and Ryan make out in the street
Macie Potts: Tessa and Ryan make out in the street and the neighbors watch in horror.
THE 100, "Unity Day", May 14, 2014, Actors: Eliza Taylor, Bobby Morley, The Scene: An object (maybe the dropship) crashes into Earth
Pablozky21: The reason I chose this scene when there are so many suspensful and well acted scenes is because of how it caught me off guard. I was sure it was the dropship that it was falling, but then it just crashed against the ground and the first question that pops up into my head is: "is Abby dead?!" It could be another part of the Ark that came down to Earth, but the show is not afraid of actually killing major players on the plot, so I'm left waiting for the next episode at the edge of my seat
THE BLACKLIST, "Berlin (No. 8) Conclusion", May 12, 2014, Actors: James Spader and more
The Scene: The final montage
Geo N: The scene that played during the final music montage with Pearl Jam's, "Just Breathe", in the background. Especially the very last moment of the finale, and the season, that showed Red caring for his wound and displaying his severely burned back, revealing he was indeed present at the milestone fire of Liz's youth.
THE ORIGINALS, "From a Cradle to a Grave", May 13, 2014, Actors: Joseph Morgan, Claire Holt
The Scene: Klaus gives baby Hope to Rebekah
Virginia Fontana: The emotional wallop of seeing Rebekah again in these circumstances, her vow to protect and care for the child, and Klaus promising that Hope will one day return, were all outstanding.
THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, "Home", May 15, 2014, Actors: Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev
The Scene: Damon and Elena say goodbye
Virginia Fontana: Beautifully romantic and completely heartbreaking. Also picked by Jamie Coudeville
TROPHY WIFE, "Mother's Day", May 13, 2014, Actors: Malin Ã…kerman, Bradley Whitford and more
The Scene: The last scene
Samy Bgs: That's when I realized that Trophy Wife would not come back next season and it made me so sad. I'll miss you Trophy Wife, ABC needs more comedies like you.

GREY'S ANATOMY, "Fear (Of the Unknown)", May 15, 2014, Actors: Sandra Oh, James Pickens, Jr. and more, The Scenes: Cristina and Meredith's dance off farewell & Webber learns he has a daughter

Since it’s season finales week it’s almost impossible to choose just 3 scenes. Which is why here’s my list of very honorable mentions:
ReplyDeleteAbout A Boy - A goodbye song for Marcus – What a beautiful friendship this turn out to be!
Arrow - Everyone fights (Team Arrow vs. Team Slade) & Felicity injects Slade with the cure
Chicago Fire - The cliffhanger – What?!
Hart Of Dixie - George goes after Lemon – I love that Zoe and Wade are getting another chance, but the moment when George arrives a little too late and that song in the background made for such a lovely scene. Just why is Lavon there? Not happy about that.
Marvel’s
Agents of SHIELD - Coulson and Fury talk to Garrett -“If you told me this whole Hydra path thing you took is because you misheard my damn "one man" speech...” Still laughing :)
Person Of Interest - Control and Harold on the stand & The final montage
Revenge - Nolan comforts Emily & Emily takes down Victoria – I loved it, but I was too upset for it to really make me feel better.
The Originals - Rebekah comes for the baby – Lovely to see her again. She’s gonna be a great aunt.
The Vampire Diaries - Damon and Elena say goodbye & Jeremy desperately looks for Bonnie – Both so tragic and heartbreaking scenes.
With it being finale week I thought I should make some effort to get my scenes heard, I could have picked about 7
ReplyDelete#TVD Bonnie and Damon die together!
ReplyDeleteCheers for compiling Justyna :)
ReplyDeleteOTHER:
ReplyDeleteThe 100 - Exodus ship is launched, Ark loses power.
OUAT - The entire fudging episode!
Penny Dreadful - Too many to choose!
I know, it always gets pretty crazy when it's a week of finales. I honestly pick any of the scenes I mention above too ;)
ReplyDeleteOther:
ReplyDeleteOrphan Black deserve to be here every week. Last night episode was insane. i woud choose all sarah and helena scenes.
GoT -Tyrion's speech - stunning!
ReplyDeleteOUAT - purely beautiful - both Regina/Robin scenes, the emotions were really palpable and overwhelming in a positive way; and the most heartbreaking one - the ending with Marion - you could literally see Regina breaking inside :(
I think it might be interesting to actually see more of the scenes with the two. I wanted them to interact more a long time ago. Seems like a fun combination. Would be nice to see friendship developing between them. I guess, we'll see.
ReplyDeleteI agree Aos and Arrow finale's were super awesome..
ReplyDeleteBut the most epic finale was definitely Person of Interest.
no other show has the guts to change the whole format of the show and unlike the rest of the finales the good guys didn't win!!!!
Honerable mentions:
ReplyDeleteGoT: Tyrion's speech
OUAT: Emma flirts with past Hook and present time Hook punches his past self.
Arrow: Thea leaves with Malcom Merlyn.
The Middle: Sue's speech about her never giving up
I don't know if the second episode of Penny Dreadful should be counted this week or the next (it airs tonight but it was available on demand last week).
ReplyDeleteVanessa Ives (Eva Green) being possesed by Mina Murray was phenomenal. Eva Green is a terrific actress and gave me chills in that scene.
Obviously I loved many other scenes (Revenge and The Vampire Diaries mostly) but Penny Dreadful really was the highlight of my week.
My other picks:
ReplyDeleteOrphan Black - Felix, Helena and Sarah at Felix's apartment and Helena hisses at Felix
Fargo - Malvo and the neighborhood watch guy outside of Gus' house & Molly and the Chief's wife in the hospital at the end.
Modern Family - Lily goes into the dry cleaners
Suburgatory - Lisa and Malik wake up the next day after their wedding
Veep - Team Veep, Ray (played by Christopher Meloni!), Catherine, Andrew and the "Finnish fart" in the hall.
I would have voted for numerous scenes in Agents of SHIELD but not the one in this pole. Not that it was a bad scene but others held more significance amd impact for me.
ReplyDeleteSo I had to chosed between Person of Interest and NCIS.
Though I felt the Person of Interest finale was far superior to the NCIS one, I had to go with NCIS.
I had thought they might overplay this and go to emotional but I am pleased to say they didn't. I thought the episode came across as a nice tribute to Gibb's father and the talented actor Ralph Waite. I thought it was nicely underplayed even the funeral scene. Strangely enough it wasnt the funeral that got to me but the picture of Mark and Ralph both smilling leaning against the car at the end that set me off.
R.I.P. Mr Waite thanks for the years of entertainment. I grew up watching that man, he will be missed.
Honorable mentions:
ReplyDeleteThe Middle - Sue's speech about never giving up
SHIELD - Fitz reveals he's in love with Jemma
My choices would be the epic Tyrion speech, FitzSimmons underwater and Sarah stopping Helena from shooting Rachel and like bonding with her sister <3
ReplyDeleteNo Person of Interest scene though CJ? I thought you were meant to be the show's biggest fan...
ReplyDeleteHonourable mention:
ReplyDeleteArrow: the entire episode
POI: the entire episode
Rumbelle wedding should be there. So I don't care.
ReplyDeleteArrow - The fight scene between Slade and Oliver, but the entire episode was terrific.
ReplyDeletePerson if Interest - Again, the entire episode, one of the best season finales I've seen.
Game of Thrones - Tyrion's speech.
Other great scenes:
ReplyDeleteGrimm: Nick discovers that his powers are gone, Rosalee and Monroe exchange vows, Trubel beheads the guy sent to kill Renard and the races with potion to save Nick
Big Bang Theory: Sheldon seeks alone time and Amy flips out on Leonard for letting him go.
Vampire Diaries: Stefan dies and Carline breaks Luke's neck to save Stefan.
TVD damon and bonnie die
ReplyDeleteI couldn't care 'ess during the damon/elana goodbye scene because i've just about had enough of those two and the whole love triangle and the way they made death meaningless on thi
POI – the entire episode
ReplyDeleteMAOS – Fury and Coulson chatting with Garrett and May “expressing her feelings” ;-)
OUAT – Robin and Marian are reunited (chosen purely for the sake of Regina’s reaction); also, Rumple in his “crazy” version was as entertaining to watch as ever
Ok...I'm sorry...I'm going to be a spelling Nazi...but for S.H.I.E.L.D her name is JEMMA Simmons...not Jenna; Jemma...that is all
ReplyDeleteStarted "The Middle" yesterday, saw the first 4 episodes and Sue is my favorite, she really never gives up and I love her for that!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I was in such a hurry that I completely missed it. Fixed :)
ReplyDeleteArrow - Everyone fights!!! (Hated the staged Olicity moment).
ReplyDeleteSPN - Castiel not punishing Dean

Eva Green's acting gives me chills too. She's almost too good,,,,,It's scary!

ReplyDeleteCould be people coming from other websites. It depends on how many big fans the show has and who visits Spoiler TV. You'd be surprised what happens when Tumblr fans visit.
ReplyDeleteAnd the votes don't outnumber the viewers of the show. 993 is nothing compared to total viewers.
GOT has a lot of viewers but doesn't mean they all visit this website or vote for this article. And some fans may have not liked the GOT speech or just voted for other shows instead. There can only be 3 votes per person.
Well then since that's the only show I voted for I should be able to vote for it 3 times.
ReplyDelete3 different shows. We all can vote only once for one show. So what if GOT isn't on top of the Scene of the Week poll? It's just a poll made for kicks. It doesn't give the top voted shows anything. It's for fun and stating opinions on scenes. That is all.
ReplyDeleteYeah sorry...I usually try not to point spelling errors out...and the article was fantastic!
ReplyDeleteDamon and Elena say goodbye, oh I cried so hard!
ReplyDeleteI also loved the scenes with Lexi, so glad we got to see her again :)
I think it's the same reason for why the CW shows have the largest online fanbase even though the shows have the worst overall ratings.
ReplyDeleteNashville - If you had any doubts about Hayden they should be gone now. She played that scene so unbelievably well and real. Blew me away!
ReplyDeleteAnd of course I cried like a little baby on TVD and loved the brothers on Regin. So many good scenes this week!
Nicely said :)
