Wednesday 5/07/14 Metered Market Ratings
Clean Sweep for CBS; Fox’s “American Idol” Dips by 25 Percent
Household
Rating/Share
CBS 6.4/10
Fox 5.6/ 9
ABC 4.0/ 7
NBC 3.5/ 6
CW 1.6/ 3
-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Wednesday 5/08/13:
CBS: + 2, CW: – 6, ABC: -13, Fox: -25, NBC: -31
———-
-Winners:
“Survivor” (CBS), “Modern Family” (ABC), “Criminal Minds” (CBS), “CSI” (CBS)
-Down But Returning Next Season:
“American Idol” (Fox)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Revolution” (NBC), “Mixology” (ABC)
———-
-Ratings Breakdown:
It was a clean household overnight sweep for CBS with its line-up of “Survivor” (6.1 rating/10 share), “Criminal Minds” (6.7/11) and “CSI” (6.4/11). Comparably, the trio was on par from the year-ago evening and CBS would be wise to leave well enough alone next season. But speculation is pointing to the Eye net adding a new drama to the night and either “CSI” or “Criminal Minds” shifting to another evening. Stay tuned – CBS is unveiling its fall 2014 primetime schedule to the press next Wednesday morning.
“Modern Family” was the standout on ABC, of course, with a 6.1/10 in the 9 p.m. half-hour and an expected first place finish for the night in all the key demos. Comparably, “Modern Family” built from lead-in “Suburgatory” (#3: 3.6/ 6 at 8:30 p.m.) by a hefty 69 percent. But recently introduced lead-out “Mixology” slipped to fourth at 9:30 p.m. with a 2.7/ 4. Earlier in the evening on the alphabet net was reliable “The Middle” at a third-place 4.7/ 8 at 8 p.m. And sophomore “Nashville” capped off the night with a third-place 3.4/ 6 at 10 p.m.
As always, the challenge ABC faces on Wednesday is finding compatible comedies out of “The Middle” and “Modern Family.”
Over at Fox, diluted “American Idol” scored a 5.6/ 9 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m., peaking in the 9:30 p.m. half-hour with a 5.8/ 9. Despite a loss of 25 percent from the year-ago evening, Fox has just announced the contestant audition dates for season 14 in 2015. “Idol” lives on!
Elsewhere, on-the-fence NBC drama “Revolution” dipped to a 2.9/ 5 at 8 p.m. (#4), which may not bode well for a third season renewal. And both “Law & Order: SVU” (#4: 3.9/ 6), which will return for season 16, and freshman “Chicago PD” (#2: 3.8/ 7) were below average from 9-11 p.m. The CW, meanwhile, was at typical overnight levels care of dramas “Arrow” (#5: 1.9/ 3) and midseason entry “The 100” (#5: 1.4/ 2), which is expected back for season two.

Looks like arrow/the 100 could be up. I'll start crossing my fingers now!
ReplyDeleteNashville :(
ReplyDeletearrow was already renewed for Season 3. all of CW shows ratings have been going down. they are not going to cancel their main money makers just because their ratings average has gone down this season.
ReplyDeleteThe Goldbergs needs to be at 8:30 on Wednesdays!
ReplyDeleteWhat, no FLOTUS bump for Nashville? SVU/CPD looks like they dropped - seems like SVU's spikes have been related to SaveBenson & CPD's have been crossovers (SVU/CF).
ReplyDeleteI'm aware. I just want them to do well.
ReplyDeleteSo Criminal Minds or CSI moving next season ? :o
ReplyDeleteDamn it Revolution! :(
ReplyDeleteOh come on Revolution! There goes my last hope...
ReplyDeleteI hope this means 0.9 for Arrow and a 0.7 for The 100. Keeping my fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteThat would make my day :)
ReplyDeleteThis season the CW is actually up. Their average was brought down last season with flops like Emily Owens and Cult.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea. I know The 100 is on Hulu because the show runners tweeted recently it was doing really well there.
ReplyDeleteJust checked its on but like the rest of the CW shows, it doesn't have every ep.
ReplyDeleteTerrible rating for AI
ReplyDeleteAs per usual, will wait for the demographic for Revolution.

Wow, everything looks down a lot! The Middle and Revolution scored a series low :(
ReplyDeleteCW has episodes on their website, I think.
ReplyDeleteWow Nashville and Revolution deserve to be cancel
ReplyDeleteChicago PD tends to do good only when it has gimmicks to rely on
Yes but not all. Like on Hulu, the site only holds 5 eps at a time.
ReplyDeleteOuch Revolution. Ouch.
ReplyDeleteI think that might be because CW has an exclusive deal with netflix, then.
ReplyDeleteWow. CPD drops .5 rating point! Looks like they'll need more cross-overs with CF and SVU - those have been the only big spikes this season.
ReplyDeleteit relies to much on gimmicks
ReplyDeleteOuch for Revolution. NBC may make a decision tonight, I think.
ReplyDeleteEEe ... I'm guessing this is not good for The 100? Such a good episode last night :(
ReplyDeleteHalf hours are 0.6/0.5, so it could average to a 0.6
ReplyDeleteI guess Nashville also scored a new series low
ReplyDeleteThat sounds more promising! Fingers crossed for a renewal.
ReplyDeleteBut really, it's one of the better shows on the CW ... people need to watch it!
Revolution just ahdoldqldnqdnilq
ReplyDeletedamn.
The difference of total viewers between Arrow and The 100 increased. I know that the demo is the most important thing, but I hope the difference decreases next week. Still good retention for The 100.
ReplyDeleteYeah it is. I think its safe.
ReplyDeleteI really hope so :)
ReplyDeleteI've heard that Netflix pays extra to get the full seasons of CW shows exclusive.
ReplyDeleteWhile Hulu gets the recent episodes...they don't get full seasons (except the reality shows that Hulu isn't interested in I believe).
Unless they already have, but damn that's low! Could adjust up though and not the total disaster that SMASH was either. But still, DAMN!
ReplyDeleteSeries low for the middle , and even worse i believe a series low for Revolution this does not help its case for a third season doing awfull the week before upfronts.
ReplyDelete0.7 for Arrow and 0.6 for The 100. Good rating for The 100 :) while I wish Arrow got a 0.8.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope Arrow will be adjusted up and that The 100 won't be adjusted down.
Joining Hulu would be better I think. It would allow people to catch up or discover a show.
ReplyDeleteI was expecting 0.8 for Arrow. Hope it adjusts up.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they can for a few years still. The CW almost died a few years back and Netflix came in with their offer (and a multiple year contract). Effectively, Netflix is the CW's sugar-daddy.
ReplyDelete"Sugar-Daddy" LoL!
ReplyDelete:)
ReplyDeleteArrow come on...
ReplyDeleteI really dont know what is going on with Arrow, the quality of the show iss excellent and it hitting lows? damn that's not fair at all
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I meant announce the decision.
ReplyDeleteNon,it's been at 1.2 before-last week and I think at least once before where it adjusted up.
ReplyDeleteRevolution. :(
ReplyDeleteI guess Arrow....*puts on shades*...took two bullets
ReplyDeleteYEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
OMG!!! IT GOT RENEWED!!!!! =D
ReplyDeleteJust saw it! Awesome! Flash got picked up as well!
ReplyDeleteYes, looking forward to that and iZombie and a little intrigued about Messengers.
ReplyDeleteCW needs to open up their 10 pm slot so they can accommodate all shows instead of bouncing around 13 episode seasons!
Lol! CSI: Miami!
