Tuesday 5/06/14 Metered Markets
Clean Sweep for CBS; Lackluster Season-Ending Sitcoms on Fox
Household
Rating/Share
CBS 8.9/14
NBC 5.0/ 8
ABC 2.7/ 4
Fox 1.9/ 3
CW 1.3/ 2
-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Tuesday 5/07/13:
CW: +86, CBS: +10, NBC: -19, Fox: -34, ABC: -52
———-
-Winners:
“NCIS” (CBS), “The Voice” (NBC), “NCIS: Los Angeles” (CBS), “Person of Interest” (CBS)
-Honorable Mention:
“Chicago Fire” (NBC)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Glee” (Fox), “New Girl” (Fox), “Trophy Wife” (ABC), “The Mindy Project” (Fox), “Celebrity Wife Swap” (ABC)
———-
-Ratings Breakdown:
It was another clean household overnight sweep for CBS with its line-up of “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 10.5 rating/17 share), “NCIS: Los Angeles” (9.2/14) and “Person of Interest” (7.0/12). While CBS, comparably, bested No. 2 NBC by an average of 78 percent in the overnights, its advantage in the key demos will be considerably smaller.
NBC’s top draw, of course, was “The Voice,” which scored a second-place 7.0/11 from 8-9 p.m. And that provided the necessary lead-in support for 9-10 p.m. sitcoms “About a Boy” (#2: 4.1/ 6) and “Growing Up Fisher” (#3: 3.3/ 5) to warrant their probable second season renewals. At 10 p.m., sophomore “Chicago Fire” finished second with a 4.4/ 7, which was 19 percent above a year-ago telecast of “Grimm” (3.7/ 6 on 5/07/13).
Elsewhere, ABC finished a distant third with its combination of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” (#3: 3.6/ 6), “The Goldbergs” (#3: 2.7/ 4), “Trophy Wife” (#3: 1.9/ 3) and “Celebrity Wife Swap” (#3: 2.0/ 3), which from a ratings standpoint did not need to recently return. With “The Goldbergs” a lock for a second season renewal, ABC may be thinking of moving it to Wednesday to benefit out of either “The Middle” and “Modern Family.”
In season-finale news, Fox comedies “New Girl” (#4: 1.9/ 3 at 9 p.m.) and “The Mindy Project” (#4: 1.8/ 3 at 9:30 p.m.) did not earn their renewals. And their lead-in, “Glee” (#4: 1.9/ 3), should have “graduated this season. The CW’s combination of dramas “The Originals” (#5: 1.2/ 2) and “Supernatural” (#5: 1.3/ 2), meanwhile, were at typical overnight levels.

Is that good for AoS right ?!
ReplyDeletethe orginals and supernatural was not that good
ReplyDeleteThey suppose to be preempted in Chicago for baseball ,right? And NY next week? So yes, I am not expecting fabulous ratings , 0.7/0.8 probably
ReplyDeleteAnd this is kind of sad because SPN was very good last night.
Pretty much the same HH ratings it has been doing recently.
ReplyDeleteCW pre-empted again?
ReplyDeleteCan anyone tellme is this pre-emption thing random or it depends on someone's decision?
ReplyDeleteWGN (CW Chicago) aired The Originals at 11:30p and Supernatural at 12:30a.
ReplyDeleteOh, AoS, you break my heart. Get a ratings boost!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo here we go, Chicago market is out, and for relatively low CW overall viewership its a noticeable dent . I doubt people wait until after midnight to watch a TV episode. Expect big DVR lift for this week.
ReplyDeleteIts pretty typical for CW. Local sports can be more profitable to air then majority of CW shows .
ReplyDeleteGreat ep of TO last night! Anyone know which day the CWs upfronts are?
ReplyDeleteIt's just easier to assume that it's always pre-empted these days I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteMay 15 for the CW
ReplyDeletehttp://www.spoilertv.com/2014/01/2014-upfronts-schedule.html
CW is Thursday, May 15th,
ReplyDeleteSadly, another little drop from AAB :-/
ReplyDeleteApril 15 > 4.6 (final demo: 1.8)
April 22 > 4.4 (final: 1.9)
April 29 > 4.3 (final: 1.6)
May 6 > 4.1 (guessing a final demo around 1.6-1.7)
They improved in quality but it was too late, all the viewers drove away after that disastrous first 15-16 episodes!!
ReplyDeleteit will probably be in the 1.8-2.0 range. It just skews pretty young.
ReplyDeleteIts doing ok - it has been pretty steady since they actually showed a run of episodes with no breaks and it always adjusts up in the finals.
ReplyDeleteWere there this many preemptions last season? I don't remember so many.
ReplyDeleteConsidering how badly most of ABC's new shows have done this season, they've got to thank thier lucky stars where SHIELD is concerned! Seems pretty stable now. Does anyone have data on the Male demographic that the show has been doing so well in?
ReplyDeleteHope there is a sizable rise next week given the fact ABC aired a promo that said "A Marvel character guest" aka, Samuel L Jackson!
I found a few references to the male demos, seems like it wins its time slot every time they show a new episode
ReplyDeleteFrom last week
it is Tuesday's No. 1 TV show with Men 18-34 and Men 18-49
http://www.thefutoncritic.com/ratings/2014/05/06/abc-finishes-no-1-for-the-3rd-week-in-a-row-in-adults-18-49-marking-its-longest-in-season-streak-at-no-1-in-over-6-1-2-years-809513/20140506abc03/
This is such an important demo for ABC which tends to do well with female audiences but less so with male.
I assumed it would have been doing better than ok considering its geared for a younger audience and what the storyline is about.
ReplyDeleteSHIELD needs every little bit of help for next week, because they have to be worth the renewal to get it.
ReplyDeleteI'd be highly suprised if it's not renewed. I really hope it is.
ReplyDelete1.3 for Mindy! not that great but at least it's up from 1.1

Yeah, it would shock everyone. But after DC got Gotham to be greenlighted, that means Marvel need's SHIELD and Agent Carter to keep getting there head in the game.
ReplyDeleteThose numbers for the voice are bull! NHL PLAYOFFS where on my TV when the voice should have been on! WTF are they getting these numbers?!
ReplyDeleteSupernatural's first 0.8 of the season!
ReplyDeleteThat's a series low for Person of Interest.
ReplyDeleteAlot of shows building a case not to be renewed just days before pickup decisions
ReplyDeleteAs I always say, if you were worried or... laughing at Castle ratings, see how others ABC shows are.
ReplyDeleteEspecially when it hasn't air in major market like Chicago until after midnight. I whould dvr it too.
ReplyDeleteEverything is down, apart from Chicago Fire which is surprisingly up from last week.
ReplyDeleteSo did i , i watched about 4 episodes and got bored of it.
ReplyDeleteOuch at NCIS viewer numbers, but it almost tied The Voice in the demo.
ReplyDeleteI'm really annoyed how poorly rated are Trophy Wife and The Goldbergs, they both are really great comedies in a wrong time slot. UGH AT ABC !
ReplyDeleteI would add, it followed an awful episode last week and even if people are mad at me again, I will say, not a good idea from CW to promote the episode with mostly pictures of angels. It's the second time in a row an angels promoted episode hit low ratings.
ReplyDeleteGet the picture here Carver, fans are very very annoyed with the angel storyline.
But it's sad because the episode was quite good and not as angels heavy as we would think.
My parents love them. I told them Trophy Wife was probably gone, sadly.
ReplyDeleteEverything is so predictable, and we can guess there's not going to be anything surprising happening in the finale.
ReplyDeleteI doubt a lot of viewers thought Abaddon would be killed off this soon.
Surprise is in the eye of the beholder though. I could say nothing has surprised me on the show since season 3, but I still watch it.
Ratings in this case are likely due to preemption as well as general low numbers all around the networks. There was probably some dropoff from last week regardless, but people have been saying here every week that every episode is predictable or bad. Yet the ratings vary each week.
I do think some fans are bored of the angel story, but I remember some Abaddon stuff in the promo too.
ReplyDeleteThe last angel episode went up against SHIELD, which had to have an impact.
Wasn't Meta Fiction a .8 before it adjusted down?
ReplyDeleteYa! That's how long i lasted.
ReplyDeletemaybe, I don't watch Shield and don't know its impact.
ReplyDeleteI still hope the angels storyline will end this season, it hurts the show because it's been drag too long.
Hahahaha liked you!
ReplyDeleteI don't watch it that often (I do sometimes), but it is somewhat similar to SPN in demo.
ReplyDeleteI have always had a soft spot for the angels, but I don't think the show has known what to do with them since season 4, maybe season 8, and I hope that most of the ones who are left are gone this season (and if Cas stays then he's either human or severely depowered).
Disappointed with the originals numbers but at east AoS's numbers are down too.
ReplyDelete2nd week in a row Mindy beat New Girl. Sad they cut the episode order but I'll take what I'm given
ReplyDeleteYep, sadly. The Goldbergs will be renewed ! 1/2 at least.
ReplyDeleteyeah but for the last few years they have been desperate to break into the male demo, hence why they tried a show like Last Resort, that failed for them but AoS has been doing well.
ReplyDeletePerson of Interest was awesome last night.
ReplyDeleteYes, that's my problem with the angels, I feel like they keep them only to keep Misha. I like Misha but I have mixed feeling about Cass.
ReplyDeleteI didn't like him in season 4, he bored me (already). I liked him in season 5 because powerless and it was better for the show and the angst, was ok in season 6 but too powerfull. I thought he would have been wonderful as the leviathan boss and they really missed something here. But he came back as a jock later, never bought his love story with Meg ( I prefer canon : angels hate demons who hate angels) but since season 8, we came back to boring season 4 Cass. It was fine as long as he was connected with the bro but too often, they have separate storyline, crossing once in a while, I just don't like it.
So I really wish to say bye bye to all angels, Cass can stay as long as he doesn't have too much power.
Well it might not be the best place to talk about it.
And it beat Glee and New Girl so the fans that watch came for Mindy, not the lead in.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. I definitely think we only have the angels because we all love misha. Ideally there will be a 2014theendverse story where the angels just give up on earth and their powers fade away with Cas still being on earth but without all the power
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure. But if it stays at a 0.8 in the finals it will be the first 0.8 of the season.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling it will adjust down so I'd take a .8.
ReplyDeleteSo is that what you guys are going with again? who the hell pre-empted this? This did not happen last season so what is wrong with this season?
ReplyDeleteNOPE! I do not think so it was on a Wed so the rating was great.
ReplyDeletethey killed off that girl in season 6 too soon the mother so why not repeat it again another good bad person goes away and the sucky ones still alive.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.People were probably annoyed with what was proposed as a 'spin-off' and wanted to show their negativity.
ReplyDeleteAdd to the fact, as you point out that they publicise the episodes with angel photos, a story line that has been drawn out for seasons now and has gotten boring.
SPN is about Sam and Dean and that is what the majority of fans want.
X
I see the number of final viewers has gone down to its lowest this year for an episode too
Sad.
