Monday 5/05/14 Metered Markets
Respectable Return for “24” on Fox
Household
Rating/Share
ABC 7.9/13
NBC 6.6/11
Fox 5.8/ 9
CBS 3.7/ 6
CW 0.8/ 1
-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Monday 5/06/13:
Fox: +287, CW: +60, NBC: + 3, ABC: -10, CBS: -26
———-
-Winners:
“Dancing With the Stars” (ABC), “The Voice” (NBC), “The Blacklist” (NBC)
-Honorable Mention:
“24” (Fox)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Friends With Better Lives” (CBS), “Star-Crossed” (CW), “The Tomorrow People” (CW)
———-
-Ratings Breakdown:
As expected, the return of “24” on Fox, themed “Live Another Day,” was not as strong as its most recent season-opener in January 2010. “24,” headlined by Kiefer Sutherland, scored a very respectable 5.8 rating/9 share in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that was 87 percent above Fox’s week-ago combination of a repeat of “Bones” (2.8/ 4 on April 28) and the sophomore season-finale of “The Following” (3.4/ 5). And it resulted in diminished overnight results on competing ABC, CBS and NBC. But versus the two-hour debut for its eighth season on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, “24” dropped by 23 percent. And compared to the 7.7/11 for its Monday return on Jan. 18, 2010, this was down by 25 percent. In other words, “24” was positive, but by no means a record.
In season finale news, sitcom “2 Broke Girl” on CBS concluded with a fourth-place 4.8/ 8 at 8 p.m., which was six percent below one week earlier (5.1/ 8 on April 28). Next was recent entry “Friends With Better Lives” at a 3.8/ 6 at 8:30 p.m., which dipped by 21 percent, followed by “Mike & Molly” at a 4.9/ 7 at 9 p.m. Encores of “Mom” (#4: 3.4/ 5 at 9:30 p.m.) and a Monday 10 p.m. edition of “NCIS: Los Angeles” (#3: 2.8/ 5 at 10 p.m.) capped off the night for the Eye net.
Over at ABC, two-hours of “Dancing With the Stars” topped the night in the overnights with a 9.0/14 in households from 8-10 p.m. But it will not, of course, be able to top competing “The Voice” on NBC (#2: 6.7/10) or aforementioned “24: Live Another Day” on Fox in the key demos.
Tops at 10 p.m. was NBC’s “The Blacklist” (6.5/11), which is expected to be put to much needed use on another evening next season (Thursday, perhaps), followed by “Castle” on ABC at a second-place 5.8/10.
Given the competitive environment last night. CW dramas “Star-Crossed” and the season (or series) finale of “The Tomorrow People” could only muster a 0.8/ 1 in the overnights each.

I see 24:LAD getting low to mid 2s, nothing higher.
ReplyDeleteConsidering 24 is essentially a summer series consider this a very positive start.
ReplyDeleteIt would be still the highest rated FOX show this season. Not groundbreaking for 24, but good enough for the terrible shape FOX is in
ReplyDeleteNo surprise 24 wasn't huge but I see it doing ok and its one of those rare shows that I imagine actually does make a load of money from international sales so if they wanted to do another series then they probably could.
ReplyDeleteNot really it will air into the summer and this was just the premiere, and i think the Sunday animation series and Sleepy Hollow will still stay better rated.
ReplyDeleteIt got a 3.0 in the top 25 markets. If it could drop because FOX usually does, but it could go up since this seems like a heartland show.
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get that from?
ReplyDeleteWill wait for the demographic for 24 but this seems like it'll be Fox's highest rated show since Sleepy Hollow ended! And it's a summer show at that!
ReplyDelete24 has a good start.
ReplyDeleteFrom work.
ReplyDeleteGood start for 24.
ReplyDeleteI guess this means no more than a 2.5 demo for 24.
ReplyDeleteExcept is premiered during the regular Season.
ReplyDeleteIt's still a summer series.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least we have excuses lined up for ratings in week four and five.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a drop from last week for Castle!
ReplyDeleteI see it's currently scheduled to air on Memorial Day - that's OK for a procedural, but a serial - makes no sense at all. It's not like FOX has anything else to run in July so extending it a week wouldn't make a difference.
ReplyDeleteWhere do you work?
ReplyDeleteI hope they don't move The Blacklist from Mondays. It makes Monday worth looking forward to. :)
ReplyDeleteBut they want an uninterrupted run.
ReplyDeleteThey most certainly will. I am thinking States of Affairs will get the post-Voice slot in the fall.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I don't know Sleepy Hollow's season average but the season finale got a 2.4. Also Family guy is doing really well.
ReplyDeleteTBL needs to move to 9 pm slot to get better HUT/L+SD as well as serve as lead-in. It's far from TV dependent - plenty of us DVR TBL, but haven't watched a minute of TV.
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific finale for TTP.
ReplyDeleteTTP finale was great. Guess i'll wait for the official ratings. Please let us have a second season, i would like to know what happened. And with a season 2 they can definitely improve the series.
ReplyDelete2.5 A18-39 for 24: LAD.
ReplyDeleteNot a chance, and I like the show.
ReplyDelete8:00 p.m.
ReplyDeleteThe Voice 2.7/2.9/3.0/3.2
24:Live Another Day 2.6/2.5/2.5/2.5
Dancing With the Stars 1.7/1.8/2.0/2.0
2 Broke Girls 1.9
Star-Crossed 0.4/0.3
8:30 p.m.
Friends With Better Lives 1.6
9:00 p.m.
Mike & Molly 1.8
The Tomorrow People 0.4/0.4
10:00 p.m.
The Blacklist 2.9/2.6
Castle 1.7/1.5
Ouch for Castle, 1.6 is not good. At least TTP didn't get 0.3 for the finale
ReplyDeleteWhat 1.6 for Castle :((
ReplyDeletePeople are burned out on Beckett's mother's murder story-line. The last 2 episodes featuring that story have been disappointments in the ratings. I'm glad they ended it last night.
ReplyDelete2.5 for 24 with a chance of adjusting up in the finals, not too shabby for Fox given the sate of the network as a whole
ReplyDelete24 getting 8 million In total viewers and a 2.5 In demo Is pretty good. It means mostly those who were still with 24 at end of series are still there. Plus it looks good compared to fox's other shows.
ReplyDeleteYes 90% of all the fans say this is the best episode of the season maybe even the entire show seems they are not burned out on the JB murder case the reason the ratings are low are simply because of DWTS.
ReplyDeleteCastle's ratings aren't dependent on DWTS anymore. True, some people like the storyline, but a lot of fans are just sick of it. Stana Katic also completely over-acted last night.
ReplyDeleteI'll wait til the announcement. I'm stubborn that way. Plus I'd feel better hearing it from the direct source. So with that said I'm going to keep my small sliver of hope.
ReplyDeleteDamn 2BG hitting a low for the season finale, that's sad, also M&M was down too bad night for CBS
ReplyDeleteI prefer preparing myself for the worst.
ReplyDeleteWell I for one loved last night's epi, was a worthy finish to the overall story arc, everything came full circle!! And the performances by everyone were stellar!!! But it seems to me that all shows seem to be a bit down in the ratings not just Castle, so I dunno..seems to be an overall phenomena..
ReplyDeleteI was suprised how great 24 was! I haven't seen any full episodes of it before this but it seems like a cool show! I like the idea and how they make it. It must have been good before but I don't have time to marathon it. Great cast, story and I can't wait for next week for episode 3
ReplyDeleteLol Castle most definitely depends on DWTS last week DWTS had its best ratings of the season and castle got bumped too 2.0/10.?? and yesterday DWTS had its worst rating and castle went down with the ship.
ReplyDeleteThose people who were burned out on the JB case probably haven't even bother themselves to watch it. Castle viewers aren't equal with the Castle fandom, and only those ones can praise an episode who watched it.
ReplyDeleteCastle was very much independent from DWTS for quite a long time, in the past year they often moved on different trend. DWTS had four 2.0 ratings in the fall and Castle brought 1.9 - 2.2 ratings after those events and after DWTS series low (1.7) Castle's "A Murder Is Forever" had 2.0 in November. So DWTS bad numbers surely didn't help, but the big dip was mainly because of Castle itself.
You do that. I like both. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst. And right now my hope side is taking over. And i'm not a positive person, so when i do get optimistic i'd rather stick to it, for how little long it lasts.
ReplyDeleteLast night's Castle episode was absolutely FANTASTIC! The show deserves better ratings.
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/GaudeP/status/463719521107197953
ReplyDeleteTwo more weeks of competing with The Voice. If people stick around the ratings should look really good come summer when the Voice is gone.
ReplyDeleteI expect 24 to go up when The Voice is gone
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately the low numbers IMHO are the straight result of AM's plan, and has very little to do with 24 or DWTS. Boards like this are very misleading because it seems that "Castle's audience" means the Castle fandom - the Caskett bannermen dieing for ther story and all. It's not true. To a very large part of the audience Castle is simply a comfort food - a safe show if the 9 years old begs to watch tv a little longer, no sex, no gore, no four letter words. They also don't need continuity - AM himself stated in an interview in S4 when he was asked why the Big Secrits weren't the topic of the episodes that he "doesn't want to burden" the syndicate viewers with the relationship story. That audience wants that kind of show - easy watching with no big drama. (That some of the marathon viewers became active Caskett fans doesn't mean that they are the majority.)
ReplyDeleteSo the an episode which is promoted as a heavy, big drama, which required knowing a lot of things in context from the six year history of the show was simply not their choice.
She has done that ;in the last two episodes of the arc. For those who say Stana deserves an "Emmy" I think they haven't seen a real Emmy worthy performance...
ReplyDeleteThe entire JB arc after a while became silly.
The Stana stans also don't help. They clamor for the "bada$$: Beckett scenes when all the casual fans don't care. The casuals just want to be entertained by the humor and the Chemistry Stana and Nathan used to bring to the role. Give the casuals that and they might watch again.
So what does it say about Castle? It says the show can't stand on its own..
ReplyDeleteThats true.
ReplyDeleteI would love 2 see a second season of The Tomorrow People and Star-Crossed but I am not getting my hopes up.
