-Ratings Breakdown:
The return of “America’s Got Talent” on NBC was off and running with a dominant 7.4 rating/12 share in households from 8-10 p.m. (peaking in the 9 p.m. half-hour with a 7.8/12). Comparably, this was up by seven percent from its year-ago season-opener (6.9/11 on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, which led out of “The Voice”). And that translated into 11.22 million viewers and a 3.1 rating/9 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same Day data. Welcome back Howie Mandel, Howard Stern, Heidi Klum and Mel B! It looks like another successful summer ahead.
Leading out of “America’s Got Talent” was the series-premiere of scripted drama “The Night Shift,” which won the 10 p.m. hour with a 4.8/ 8. Comparably, that was on par with the most recent airing of regularly scheduled time period occupant “Chicago Fire” (4.7/ 8 on May 13). And the retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “America’s Got Talent” (7.6/12) was 63 percent, which is respectable given the solid lead-in support.
The other season-premiere last night was “Extreme Weight Loss” on ABC, which could not compete with aforementioned “America’s Got Talent” with a slim 2.7/ 4 from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that dipped from the year-ago season-opener (3.2/ 5 on 5/28/13) by 16 percent, and it trailed “America’s Got Talent” by 64 percent.
Airing out of “Extreme Weight Loss” was “Celebrity Wife Swap” at a distant third-place 2.5/ 4 at 10 p.m. Note to ABC: put this franchise to rest.
Fox, meanwhile, could not compete with its anemic combination of summer mumbo-jumbo “Riot” (#4: 1.2/ 2) and “I Wanna Marry Harry” (#4: 1.0/ 2), which slipped by its already DOA series-opener (1.6/ 2 on May 20) by 37 percent. Apparently, viewers don’t really wanna marry Harry!
Elsewhere, CBS populated the evening with encores of “NCIS” (#2: 6.4/11), “NCIS: Los Angeles” (#2: 5.3/ 8) and “Person of Interest” (#2: 3.7/ 6). And The CW aired repeats of “The Originals” (#5: 0.6/ 1) and “Supernatural” (#5: 0.7/ 1), which could get a boost next season out of highly anticipated lead-in “The Flash.”

Wow great for NBC!
ReplyDeleteGreat night for NBC.
ReplyDeleteSome little advise for FOX: try to make a show that sounds like "I wanna get banged by C. E." ... maybe ratings will be much, much higher!
Not bad for Night Shift and AGT did better than I thought. Riot and Harry bombed badly and they need to be pulled ASAP. I think even repeats of New Girl and The Mindy Project would've rated higher.
ReplyDeleteI watched the first few minutes of Riot (on accident!) and it was awful. We started watching a movie instead.
ReplyDeleteDecent for The Night Shift.
ReplyDeleteAGT got a 3.0 A18-49 and 11.91m.
