The season-finale of “American Idol” on Fox proved victorious opposite the season-ending installment of “Survivor: Cagayan” on CBS, with an advantage of 17 percent in the household overnights. But a 6.9 rating/11 share for “Idol” from 8-10 p.m. (peaking at a 7.7/12 at 9:30 p.m.) was 27 percent below the 9.5/16 for the year-ago season-finale (on Thursday, May 16, 2013). And that translated into 14.31 million viewers and a 3.6 rating/11 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same Day data.
“Survivor: Cagayan,” meanwhile, was right on par with the year-ago season-ender (6.0/10 on Sunday, May 12, 2013). And that translated into 10.16 million viewers and a 2.7/ 8 in the demo (based on the Live Plus Dame Day data). So, while “Idol” did rule, “Survivor” truly is the definition of survivor. While I will not give away the winner of “Survivor” for those of you who did not see it yet, I would say the more deserving of the final two won the game, wouldn’t you?
The live “Survivor” Reunion on CBS finished first in the 10 p.m. hour with a 4.5/ 8, which outdelivered the season-finale of competing “Chicago PD” on NBC (4.2/ 7) and the season-premiere of Canadian drama “Motive” on ABC (2.8/ 5) by 7 and 61 percent, respectively.
Earlier in the evening on ABC was the one-hour season-finale of reliable sitcom “The Middle” at a 5.1/ 9 from 8-9 p.m., followed by the wedding of Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) on “Modern Family” at a dominant 7.2/11 in the 9 p.m. half-hour, which topped the night. Both “The Middle” and “Modern Family” were on par from their year-ago season-ending episodes, and “The Middle” into relocated “The Goldbergs” next season should be a compatible fit.
Also on the alphabet net was the final episode of freshman comedy “Mixology,” which earned its cancellation stripes at a fourth-place 2.6/ 4 in the household overnights at 9:30 p.m.
Earlier in the evening on NBC was the series-finale of sophomore drama “Revolution” (#4: 2.8/ 5 at 8 p.m.), followed by the season-finale of “Law & Order: SVU” at a fourth-place 4.4/ 7 from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, both “Law & Order: SVU” and “Chicago PD” scored their best overnights since April 30. Next season, new drama “The Mysteries of Laura” will anchor Wednesday evening for NBC (into returning “SVU” and “Chicago PD”). But is it really believable seeing Debra Messing packing a pistol?
The CW closed the night was encore of “The 100” (#5: 0.7/ 1 at 8 p.m.) into an original installment at a below average 1.2/ 2 at 9 p.m.

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.
The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

Well, of course The 100 is below average. It doesn't have an Arrow lead-in. That doesn't make it a loser!
ReplyDeleteThe fact that it only decreased a little bit on the overnights (0.1) without the support of new episodes of Arrow doesn't mean anything to him. I'm not surprised.

ReplyDeleteCome on the100 went up against M Family, these are solid results and I believe it will be 0,5 at least.
ReplyDeleteIts also the lowest HH rating it ever got. Its even lower then the first time it aired with the Arrow repeat. He also listed Reign as a loser last week with a 1.1 HH. So i wouldn't pay attention to the list too much.
ReplyDeleteBut i must confess I worry about the 100 ratings, especially when i look at last week. W18-34 and M18-34 (0.3) are too low for me, and it loses too much male demo after Arrow, for my taste.
The thing that disappoints me for the 100 is that the ratings show its not as male skewing show as i wanted it to be (my expectations were very high before the show started).
But here is to hoping i get surprised with the rating like i was with SPN.

I agree Revolution is more beautiful. I watched it for about 18 episodes before letting it go though. Charlie wasn't going in a direction that made sense. Not at first but over time the Aaron character and Charlie's mother generally ruined it for me. It certainly has better development as a show and the premise was more thought out than 100, but it was becoming like Lost and I wasn't going to play along.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed a few plot holes in 100 so far that a little effort and a Google search could have fixed. I'm watching for the Ark/Grounder/ post modern world not for the love triangles. 100 people camping out and they have infinite toilet paper? Does the capsule have porto-potties? Did they bring coolers full of steaks? I don't get how 100(-minus 20-30) people are living day to day. They're certainly losing the realism they wanted to bring to the idea a lot faster than Revolution
I think that Charlie and her mom have ruived the serie cause are very poor actress. They have ever the same expression. I love much in this serie Esposito, and Lyons. Bass is crazy and more crazy of him is his son :)
