SUNDAY 5/18/13 Metered Markets
CBS Wins, but ABC Will Rule in the Key Demos
Household
Rating/Share
CBS 6.6/11
ABC 6.0/10
Fox 2.1/ 3
NBC 1.5/ 3
-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Sunday 5/19/13:
CBS: +14, ABC: + 2, Fox: -19, NBC: -46
———-
-Winners:
“The 2014 Billboard Music Awards” (ABC), “The Good Wife (CBS)
-A Definite Disappointment:
“Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey”
-Losers (Excluding Repeats):
“Coldplay: Ghost Stories” (NBC), “Bob’s Burgers” (Fox), “American Dream Builders” (NBC)
———-
-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS topped this final Sunday of the May 2014 sweeps, besting second-place ABC by 10 percent. But ABC got a boost care of “The 2014 Billboard Music Awards,” which scored a solid 6.7 rating/11 share from 8-11 p.m. (peaking in the 9 p.m. half-hour with a 7.3/11). Comparably, this was right on par with the year-ago telecast, which averaged 9.48 million viewers and a 3.5 rating/10 share among adults 18-49 (based on the Live Plus Same Day data). ABC, no doubt, will lead the evening in all the key demographics.
Earlier in the evening on ABC was the season-finale of veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at a second-place 4.0/ 8 at 7 p.m., which should be more than enough to beat competing “60 Minutes” on CBS (#1: 7.3/14) in all the young adult demos.
Leading out of “60 Minutes” on the Eye net were the season-finale installments of “The Amazing Race” (#2: 5.7/ 9), which moves into the Friday 8 p.m. hour next season, “The Good Wife” (#2: 6.9/11) and “The Mentalist” (#2: 6.4/11) from 8-11 p.m. Replacing “The Mentalist” (which returns in midseason) in the Sunday 10 p.m. hour next season is relocated “CSI” and upcoming “CSI: Cyber,” which are sharing the time period.
Next was diluted Fox care of the season-finale episodes of animated “Bob’s Burgers” (#3t, 1.3/ 3), “American Dad!” (#3: 1.6/ 3), “The Simpsons” (#3: 2.4/ 4) and “Family Guy” (#3: 2.8/ 4) from 7-9 p.m., and soon-to-conclude “Cosmos” A Spacetime Odyssey” (#3: 2.2/ 3), which is certainly not the big event the network was hoping for. Scheduled out of “The Simpsons” and “Family Guy” next season is relocated “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and upcoming “Mulaney,” which is the first time Fox is opening the season with animation and live action comedies on Sunday since 2006. As a reminder, original episodes of “Family Guy” will be telecast on TBS next season, and “Bob’s Burgers” returns on Fox in midseason.
NBC capped off the night with low-rated 7 p.m. special “Coldplay: Ghost Stories” (#4: 1.1/ 2), “American Dream Builders” (#3: 1.6/ 3) and encore two-hour special “The Women of SNL” (1.8/ 3 from 9-11 p.m.).

Another bad sunday night for NBC ...
ReplyDeleteAmerican Dad will be telecast on Tbs, not Family Guy.
ReplyDeleteYep. A lot of time, I get the feeling Marc gives out false information in his report on purpose just because he doesn't like a certain show or shows. Maybe it's just me...

Wonderful ratings for The Mentalist :) Bombastic episode !
ReplyDeleteWOW THE MENTALIST!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSO happy for The Mentalist!!!! can't wait for Season7!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI watch neither shows but why is The Good Wife a winner and not The Mentalist... ? Just wondering.
ReplyDeletethe HH rating, he changed it when the demos came out, only Billboard Awards listed as winner now.
ReplyDeleteGood..I hope they realize it was a mistake to cancel Believe…at least it had better ratings.
ReplyDeleteSo happy for The Mentalist and that this beautiful season finale was appreciated so much.
ReplyDeleteBut can we please replace The Good Wife??? It wasn´t a winner at all...
The Good Wife increased significantly from it's lead-in.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Believe hitting 1.0s is very profitable for NBC.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why Marc Berman keep putting TGW among the winners list, when lately The Mentalist did better in the demo... I guess the guy only put as winners the shows he likes...
ReplyDeleteHe made 2 mistakes in this article. It's American Dad that's moving to TBS and Bob's Burgers isn't coming back at midseason it'll beer on at 7:30 in the fall.
