This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. CW 1.3/ 2
-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Thursday 5/16/13:

———-
-Winners:
“The Big Bang Theory” (CBS), “Grey’s Anatomy” (ABC)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Hollywood Game Night” (NBC), “Rosemary’s Baby,” part 2 (NBC), “Reign” (CW), “Bad Teacher” (CBS), “Black Box” (ABC)
———-
-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS, which featured three season finales, topped this third Thursday in May (and final Thursday of the May 2014 sweeps), with a 1.5 household rating point advantage over No. 2 Fox. The season-ending installment of “The Big Bang Theory” led the night, of course, with an 11.0 rating/19 share at 8 p.m. Comparably, that was 11 percent above the comparable year-ago season-finale (9.9/17 on 5/16/13). Lead-out “The Millers” concluded its season with a dominant 6.5/11 at 8:30 p.m., which dipped by 41 percent from “Big Bang” and is not worthy of remaining in this time period next season (after Thursday Night Football concludes). Now that obnoxious “Millers” Mama Carol (Margo Martindale) is moving out, maybe the writers can send her into the land of the TV lost.
Next on CBS was an encore of “Two and a Half Men” (#2: 4.9/ 8 at 9 p.m.), which will finally conclude next season, followed by canceled “Bad Teacher” (#3: 3.7/ 6) and the season-finale of sophomore drama “Elementary” (#1: 5.3/ 9) from 9:30-11 p.m. CBS, which is keeping “Elementary” intact in the Thursday 10 p.m. hour next season (out of new sitcom “The McCarthys”) could certainly put this time period to better use.
Veteran “Grey’s Anatomy” on ABC concluded its season with a healthy (and dominant) 6.7/11 from 9-10 p.m., which was on par from the year-ago evening. Moving to Thursday at 8 p.m. next season on “Shonda-Night” will, no doubt, result in audience erosion. At 10 p.m., canceled ABC drama “Black Box” earned its walking papers with a 3.2/ 6 (#2) in the overnights. And a repeat of “Grey’s Anatomy” opened the night with a third-place 2.6/ 4 from 8-9 p.m.
Fox, which featured the two-hour season-finale of “American Idol” on the year-ago evening (hence the steep erosion), featured “Hell’s Kitchen” (#2: 3.4/ 6 at 8 p.m.), which will anchor Wednesday on the network next season, and “American Idol” (#2: 5.7/ 9 at 9 p.m.).
Over at low-rated NBC, “Hollywood Game Night” (#4: 2.4/ 4 at 8 p.m.), which has been renewed for midseason in 2014-15, led into part two of the anemic revival of “Rosemary’s Baby” at a 2.2/ 4 from 9-11 p.m. The night’s two other season-finales were “The Vampire Diaries” (#5: 1.4/ 2) and “Reign” (#5: 1.1/ 2) on The CW. Year-to-year, “The Vampire Diaries” dropped by 26 percent, which could be concerning for next season. Retention for “Reign” out of “The Vampire Diaries,” meanwhile, was modest at 79 percent.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.
If you’re interested in Ratings/Renewals/Cancellations then we have a number of resources here at SpoilerTV that we recommend you check out.
It's time to cancel The Vampire Diaries, let's face it!!! The show isn't that good anymore. The show is so boring that they have to bring the dead back to try something AGAIN.It's not working anymore!!! Cancel the show and give a decent finale to it.
ReplyDeleteTVD and Reign got the same HH ratings the have been having the past weeks
ReplyDeleteTVD is a little bit up.
ReplyDeleteIt's the 2nd highest rated show on CW.Just coz it isn't working for you,it doesn't mean the CW executives would get rid of it.So,no.it's not going anywhere anytime soon where BatB gets renewed!!
ReplyDeleteThat is the problem with a lot of shows which deliver good ratings. Even if the show is just a shadow of its former self or/and had a season finale that could work as a series finale, they still renew it. Because it brings money. That is why I'm close to dropping TVD. Nothing new happens there anymore.
ReplyDeleteThe executive producer is actually thinking of producing season 7. -_- They need to announce S6 as last. They cant write any good story lines anymore and the acting....everyone is just phoning it in.
ReplyDeleteAs long as the three leads want to keep doing the show TVD will get renewed. Don't get me wrong I wish next season would be the last so I could quit it but the show still makes money for the network.
ReplyDeleteWhile clearly Elementary is not exactly a ratings barnburner, I think Marc is a little bitter that his Sunday prediction didn't hold water. I mean, it's a young show and still COULD grow, especially once it goes to Hulu next year. And let's be real. Elementary was the only regular-season CBS drama to survive the last TWO years, if you don't count the weirdness with Unforgettable. CBS has no assurances that anything they'll do will average above a 1.6 going forward. The decline of network ratings has been that bad.
ReplyDeleteI wish everyone could be as reasonable as you.I guess not.
ReplyDeleteno, it's not the second highest rated show on CW. At least 2 shows have better ratings than tvd and those shows are Supernatural and Arrow. But yeah, it's not getting cancelled anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteIs the article just tell me that "Black Box" was cancelled?
ReplyDeleteThank you. I always try to be objective when it comes to ratings/renewals. I can't stand crazy fans or the crazy haters.

The Millers doesn't deserve the post TBBT spot
ReplyDeleteOuch for Grey's :(
ReplyDeleteI don't watch those shows but the drop is massive.
ReplyDeleteI hope Mom does better for the weeks it get's TBBT as a lead-in and gathers a few extra eyeballs.
ReplyDeleteOnly 2.5 for Greys? I thought more people were going to tune in to Cristina's farewell. Is that the lowest GA finale ever?
ReplyDeleteLol at TVD.
They should move The Millers, because there is no chance that it will grow.
It should, it does Millers numbers with Mike & Molly as a lead in.
ReplyDeleteThis will be the same as S3 of TBBT: Two and a Half Men was used it to grow it into a mega hit. Airing after TBBT could turn Mom into a hit
I hope Mom is going to be a huge hit. I think it could hit 3.0s for 6 weeks.
ReplyDeleteWas expecting something more from Greys.
ReplyDeleteWow people seem over VD. This was certainly my least favorite season. They need to improve the quality next fall, and maybe end it. If it does, I hope it go's out on a high note.
ReplyDeleteCW was pre-empted in Chicago.
ReplyDeleteShe can talk about S7 all she wants but she has to convince the actors to stay first because all the contracts expire after S6.
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, this is TBBT's most watched finale.
ReplyDeleteThe same ratings are great for TO in first season and bad for TVD season 5??
ReplyDeleteI don't think so guys....
seriously they should have cancelled The Millers and keep Friends With Better Lives
ReplyDeleteIt is.
ReplyDeleteWhy? FWBL is not owned by CBS and it hit a 1.6 which is not acceptable for CBS's standard.
ReplyDeletethey show is wayyy better
ReplyDeleteI don't watch either show, so I can't be argue about that, but ratings are what counts, not quality.
ReplyDeleteThat's a shame right because they don't care abou the fans anymore.
ReplyDeleteI can see. But if people like crap well, what can I say because being the 2nd highest show on CW doesn't mean that the show is that good. But some people don't care about it.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I think too. Numbers don't measure quality.
ReplyDeleteReally season 7? I really hope the show to improve next season because they've lost a lot of audience in this last one. People are tired of the same stories, characters that die but come back later. This isn't creative. The show needs to have the guts to do something original and interesting.
ReplyDeleteIt's time to cancel TVD and renew "The Secret Circle" and "The Carrie Diaries". TSC was too good to end after the 1st season.
ReplyDeleteBabar, thanks so much for providing the splits through out the year.
ReplyDeleteWell, season 5 of TVD was very weak (as much as season 4), the writing is all over the place, so this big drop is not a surprise..Let's see how season 6 goes now!
