An okay episode, but really only for the stuff in Storybrooke. Everything in Oz wasn't really worthy of a full episode's worth of flashbacks.
Contrived, weird 'Captain Swan' scenes did what they what they were supposed to, I guess. I'd really like Emma to have some conversations with characters who aren't Hook, they're always quite strong. Not really sure what they're doing with Emma besides making her a love interest for the cut-out character, but I assume it won't go well when she tries to abduct Henry and go back to New York now that he has his memories.
I loved all Regina's scenes. Really moving and showing so much characterization. Her scene with Henry was a little hamfisted, but that's OUAT dialogue for you.
Loved seeing Archie again, if only for a moment. I find myself super curious as to how he feels after the curse broke because he'd remember having spent the past year as a cricket.
I'm pretty astounded by the Rumple scenes though. I really thought they were going somewhere good, with Rumple growing as a person, but damn, that was harsh. I am really, really shocked they went for such hardcore abuse of Belle. I really, really hope they don't get married and Belle realizes just how heavily she's been/being abused. She stood up to Regina, now she needs to leave Rumple before he kills her. She can't trust a single thing he says; he asked her to marry him as part of a brutal lie that included him promising her he wouldn't hurt Zelena and then going to brutally murder her while she was helpless and vulnerable.
If this isn't part of a larger story that has Belle realizing that she can't be responsible for policing Rumple's every move to make sure he stops manipulating and murdering people, then I am seriously confused. They did make a point of saying that Belle was a prisoner in Rumple's castle in the last episode, so maybe they're intending to address the way Rumple abuses Belle.
Second, even after everything, Emma still wants to go back to NY and take Henry with her? Like what the... before she could fool herself into thinking that Henry may never remember so it's best for him but right now she would just take him away from part of his family and she doesn't even have legal rights to him. well, we know it won't happen and I was so happy that Henry just assumed he'll live partially with Emma and Regina but still...
That being said, I loved the episode, that they made it into a lesson that we're creating our own destiny and second chances exist and people can change. I loved that everyone believed in Regina, I loved that she was able to win with light magic, that she stopped Rumple from killing Zelena but didn't take the dagger but rather return it to Belle. The talk with Zelena was a great summary to her redemption arc. also, I love Lana Parrilla acting, period:)
I was so glad to see Archie and Henry talk even if just for a little while.
Zelena backstory in Oz could have been good if it wasn't so rushed - I can get why she felt rejected once again but I couldn't feel that while watching. But either way it's sad to see her gone because in her last moments I could see sth more in her, probably because of RM performance.
Emma saving Hook was predictable but nice. And she proved that it's not magic that makes her the saviour because she was the one to think that TLK means light magic and helped Regina believe.
Rumple...what can I say. I'm not surprised that he chose vengence but dissapointed that he lied in such a way to Belle. It could have been a poignant moment but now it feels false.
Now a week's wait for the finale. I can't wait but that will also mean a long long wait for a new season. So I want and don't want next Sunday to come:P
Way to be an idiot and screw things up, Rumple. You too, Emma. CPR COULD HAVE WORKED AND WOULDN'T HAVE TAKEN YOUR MAGIC. WHY. Plus, there's no way Henry will let you go back to New York.
I want to find out the baby's name. That end scene was adorable.
The proposal was cute until the gesture was ruined. And aww at Regina using light magic. I hope that continues.
I'm glad to see that Regina's magic came from Henry's love. As much as I'm enjoying Outlaw Queen, I think it's too rush to make it "change" Regina. I'm really confused about the whole Zelena-not dying thing, tho
loved the ep. the ending left it open for a possible/pending return from Zelena though they'd need to explain it. I liked the little touches that Regina has become a hero, "for now", and that Rumple cannot fight his nature and we will see the fallout from his actions soon I expect..... baby Charming is a cutie and I am looking forward to see what happens with Emma's decision to return to NYC
My sweet, glorious Rumbelle feels at that proposal (!!!), but then sadness when Rumples lied to Belle about the dagger and kills Zelena (who totally deserved it btw) but ugh why can't they ever be happy, show?
Awesome episode and I am just glad that Zelena is dead and this Wicked storyline is almost over. She was very petty and a terrible villian. I would have liked to see more of Dorothy. For her being the main character in the original she added next to nothing in this and could probably have been left out.
Still not feeing Captain Swan, though Hook looked very pretty.
I'm guessing the finale has atleast some of the characters falling threw that portal and into the past, and then next season is them trying to return to Storybrooke. Who will be the next big bad though?
Loved the proposal scene, but dang it Rumple, revenge really isn't worth the consequences!
Emma has been on my nerves about wanting to go back to New York. Maybe Henry is safer there ( someone should point out that a flying monkey still found them anyway!) but he won't be happy there separated from the rest of his family. It's unfair to everyone else. Emma is being selfish.
I am glad the Charmings could be happy for a little bit before the next couple episodes when everything is going to be torn apart...again!
Yeah, when I saw the CPR I was like: that's def not how you do it. I like Captain Swan, but they should have settled for one, either the kiss or the mouth-to-mouth.
And about Emma being "Henry's mother" and taking the decision, yes! I mean, besides from having raised him, Regina broke the curse with her love towards Henry - proving to everyone that she DOES love her kid, so if Emma is going to take any decision, Regina must be part of it. After all, Emma has no legal rights over the kid.
Besides Regina, I wasn't impressed with much in Storybrooke. The Oz stuff was great, of course. Am really excited yet a little concerned about what is going to happen next. Regarding the preview: enough with falling down portals!!!
Yeah, Rumple really takes advantage of Belle being so forgiving, but there has to be a breaking point. I like Belle but she needs to make Rumple realize there are consequences to taking advantage of that.
It's not even that he takes advantage of her being forgiving. Their entire scene was based around him lying to her. 100% manipulating her every emotion in the most heinous way possible.
She comes in and says she believes in him. He doesn't mention that the only reason he didn't brutally murder a powerless Zelena is because Regina had his dagger and he was forced to. Then he asks her to marry him while pretending to give her his "heart" and trust, which he faked. Then he goes and brutally murders a defenseless woman, more or less driven mad because of his manipulations, for playing a comparatively small role in his son's death.
There's a lot of fucked up in those two scenes and they basically erased every single bit of development Rumple has gone through. I do wonder if their intention is to either write Robert Carlyle out or have him be the main villain of the next season.
The dialogue in this episode was so bad and cliched…wow..I groaned and rolled my eyes several times…And you knew something was going to happen when everything was wrapped us nice and easy..too easy..felt very anti-climatic. Eh.
Maybe it's just me but this episode sure felt like a season finale…What can they possibly do in the next two episodes?! I'm pretty sure they'll introduce the next Big Bad. As for the episode, a lot of things happened but it felt so rushed and anticlimactic.
This was good episode love everything in Storybrook only thing I didn't like is Emma still on this I wanna go back to New York thing and don't realize Henry wants to stay hope they address this next week love seeing Regina being the one to stop Zelena hate the way Rumple lied to Belle hope she tell him off and make him work for her forgiveness I like the stuff in Oz but I think we could've left that out and because of Rumple killing Zelena here come the consequence of his action
My theory is Emma and Hook get stuck in Enchanted Forest in the past where they mess up the time line and have to put everything right or Emma and Henry won't be born
Actually, Emma still does have legal rights to Henry. Just because she got her memories back and the curse in Storybrooke, doesn't undo what happened just a year before. The memory potion, Henry getting his memories back, and the curse breaking didn't do anything to the history that was changed with what happened when Regina destroyed the curse scroll.
Did anyone else get vibes at the end, when Regina was looking at Zelena's necklace, that maybe the "evil Queen" part of her isn't as gone as she'd like people to think?
About your theory, I think it could be, but what if their actions in the past is actually what made all the story possible. Who knows, maybe Emma even has something to do with the book that, as far as I remember, we still don't know who wrote it, and how the it ended up with Snow.
I think what they're referring to is that the curse breaking didn't change the past, it just gave them new memories. Emma still gave up all her legal rights to Henry when he was born.
I did too. Regina did mention that she was only a hero "for now", so I imagine there's still an Evil Queen part of her, just as Rumples is quite clearly still The Dark One.
Stupid spoiler ruined it for me honestly. They have taken one of my favorite characters in Emma and have completely made me despise her. They are writing her so selfish and bipolar right now, it's painful to watch. And as far as Rumple, I guess they can't have all the villain regulars on the show turn good at the same time? I feel bad for Rumbellers though, as here he is again lying to Belle. Hood is useless. If they plan on making him a regular they need to give him something else to do besides constantly creeping around Regina. I am curious as to why Regina had the EQ music playing and that evil smile on when she put Zelena's broach in the box though. Finale promos didn't exactly excite me so hopefully they release some sneak peeks, WITHIN REASON, to give me something to look forward to.
I cant even is she inmortal? that was the point of the Oz Flashbacks right? cause i dont see why they showed that, i thought Dorothy was going to appear on Storybrooke but she didnt. I really like the episode, and WTH Emma still wants to go to NY¿? and lol and Henry looking for houses on SB.
And WTH with Rumple manipulating Belle, she doesnt deserve that, she has shown that she is trust worthy and Rumple goes and do stuff like that? for real men what are you thinking, Belle isnt stupid she is going to realise Rumple tricked her.
I wish that Robin could be shown as an actual hero! I get that they have magic but it would be nice to see some sort of thing he does well although he did help find good in Regina. I am very disappointed in Rumples direction. I didn't expect him to forgive her but I can't believe that after his sacrificial death, that he would revert to this. I also feel like there is some weird loophole of him being able to be controlled by the knife. He died and it's power over him was supposed to be gone as well. I love magic and don't mind it filling in gaps, but a lot of this plot was coerced! Still a great second season, great acting and wonderful development for the queen. Maybe Emma would have an easier time seeing Killian in their lives if he'd just put on some jeans!
Bless this comment. Seriously, I know there are Rumbelles out there and I have zero intention of creating any problems with them, but the way this is going, I don't see how they can possibly redeem Rumple for Belle. If she stays with him now, it's abuse, pure and simple. Their entire relationship is based on lies. Even when he says he loves her, it's instrumental to getting something else. And, please, if the writers pull the "but he was heartbroken 'cause his son had just died" card, I will loose all faith on this show ever possibly writing something decent for anyone other than Regina.
This episode was visually stunning, the table area looked magical and Oz was great yet again. I thought the colors were so beautiful as Zelena was executing the curse before the gang came in to stop her. This episode was awesome, there was a lot of action, a good storyline, where evil isn't made and that we are free to forge our own destiny. Glinda was awesome, I really like her, so many great references to The Wizard of Oz. I feel really bad for Belle though :(
so was it all part of Zelena's plan to die? .. or it was just a coincidence that activated the spell? and i dont get it either, Regina took her heart, Charming got his son back.. how it still worked !!?
Apart from Rumple, Zelena loves no one more than herself, so I guess no, that was definitely part of the plan. The spell is activated but she can't go back in time to do what she was planning, so the spell is kinda going on autopilot, if i may say
I was also disappointed with Rumple's direction because it was self-contradictory. He "keeps his word" -- really? Tell that to Belle who he lied to several times. He was telling Belle he was giving her his knife (lie), among other things.
I just thought "eh" about the ep, lol. I'm far more excited to see the season finale. That's looks crazy with them back in the enchanted forest and are Hook and Emma suppose to be together "together" in those scenes? I did like that Regina did in fact use good magic and defeated Zelena, I thought she would. Too bad it might get wiped away if Zelena does somehow still get to cast her spell and changes everyone's past but they still remain kinda the same like Rumple warned afterall - which could explain the enchanted forest scenes.
Totally agree - although if you play it without the music it does just look like she's being proud of herself so I'm hoping that's all it is. Surely she couldn't have had light magic if she was still evil...
Of course not. Likely when she accepted Regina's offer, she was the 'reborn innocence' that Glinda had mentioned earlier in the episode. So her resilient heart, courage, innocence and brain completed all ingredients for the curse.
You know what I'd like to see is Emma and Henry talking about going back to New York, we knew once he got his memories back that he'd want to stay in story brook but I'd like to see his reaction to the I'm his mother, I know what's best for him, I'd really like to see him say your not my only mother I have. Snap
Probably my least favourite episode of 3B. The whole drowning thing was pretty dumb...I get they needed to get it done, but they could have done with a little more flair and Hook's dignity in one piece please!!
Regina saved this episode! She was amazing in it. Specially the light magic, and her and Robin's connection. I loved it when he said "I've got your heart"
I like what Hook/the Writers are implying with Emma's whole view on NYC. She is definitely scared of the future she has in Storybrooke! The way I see it, NYC is the happy life she can control, and predict. For a person who has been without family for so long, being with them brings a whole boatload of dangers she doesn't want to deal with. I think she thinks, that now that Charming and Snow have their new baby, she doesn't need to be there anymore. Perhaps she feels they don't need her anymore...I think she's ready to give up being the saviour.
Actually it did. It had to or else Emma wouldn't have had him at all in New York. Having moved from Boston to New York and change schools, they would have questioned her having him at all. They would have wanted to know why she had him if she had given up her rights to him when he was born. So yes she does legally have him.
they never even mentioned it so it could go either way but I think that since it wasn't addressed other than "past won't be changed but you'll remember it differently" it means that Regina still has is an adoptive parent to Henry. She just gave them memories, not created new lives. Of course it seems like writers didn't really think it through but it's not the first and definitely not the last time it happens. But I see what you mean so I guess we just have to agree to disagree on this one :)
If it took every bit of evidence of those brought to this world by the first curse away, that would include the adoption record that Regina had. The new curse shouldn't have recreated it.
But that would mean that Henry's neither Emma's nor Regina's and his life didn't existed since he was 3 weeks old till last year:P yeah, sloppy writing that is ;)
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteBut is Zelena truly dead?
ReplyDeleteAt the very least with her spell activated by her apparent death, everyone going to the past means she'll be back.
Yeah, Rumple really takes advantage of Belle being so forgiving, but there has to be a breaking point. I like Belle but she needs to make Rumple realize there are consequences to taking advantage of that.
ReplyDeleteIt's not even that he takes advantage of her being forgiving. Their entire scene was based around him lying to her. 100% manipulating her every emotion in the most heinous way possible.

kinda proves the theory i share that Belle has a sever case of the Stockholm syndrome. Enough is enough girl, put this man in his place
ReplyDeleteApart from Rumple, Zelena loves no one more than herself, so I guess no, that was definitely part of the plan. The spell is activated but she can't go back in time to do what she was planning, so the spell is kinda going on autopilot, if i may say
ReplyDeleteSo this is all we'll see about Dorothy? I hoped for a bigger role about her.
ReplyDeleteSeems so, but feel Rumple's "I keep my word" made no sense because of all the lies he did with Belle to "keep his word."
ReplyDeleteI was also disappointed with Rumple's direction because it was self-contradictory. He "keeps his word" -- really? Tell that to Belle who he lied to several times. He was telling Belle he was giving her his knife (lie), among other things.
ReplyDeleteI think the best thing to do is return to a place where magic doesn't work -- then Robin can be quite invaluable.
ReplyDeleteI did too, and I didn't like that. Totally ruins the story.
ReplyDeleteI just thought "eh" about the ep, lol. I'm far more excited to see the season finale. That's looks crazy with them back in the enchanted forest and are Hook and Emma suppose to be together "together" in those scenes?

ReplyDeletePretty much. She also thought Hook was lying when he told her Rumple killed his wife because she believes his heart is pure. Pure brainwashing.
ReplyDeletebreaking the first curse didn'tundo the fact that Emma gave Henry up and Regina adopted and raised him - for some time they just didn't remember it
ReplyDeleteYou know what I'd like to see is Emma and Henry talking about going back to New York, we knew once he got his memories back that he'd want to stay in story brook but I'd like to see his reaction to the I'm his mother, I know what's best for him, I'd really like to see him say your not my only mother I have. Snap
ReplyDeleteYeah I was wondering why the EQ music was playing too :S Though I guess it doesn't matter now since the gem is gone anyway!
ReplyDeleteProbably my least favourite episode of 3B. The whole drowning thing was pretty dumb...I get they needed to get it done, but they could have done with a little more flair and Hook's dignity in one piece please!!
ReplyDeleteRegina saved this episode!
The New York thing is weird mostly because their "happiness" was her involvement with a monkey that wanted to kill her!
ReplyDeleteIsn't anyone else bummed that Emma lost her magic? I was really looking forward to Emma reaching her full potential.
ReplyDeleteActually it did. It had to or else Emma wouldn't have had him at all in New York. Having moved from Boston to New York and change schools, they would have questioned her having him at all. They would have wanted to know why she had him if she had given up her rights to him when he was born. So yes she does legally have him.
ReplyDeleteI feel like Zelena has only been introduced to be used as a plot device for Regina's redemption. I never really got into her character.
ReplyDeletethey never even mentioned it so it could go either way but I think that since it wasn't addressed other than "past won't be changed but you'll remember it differently" it means that Regina still has is an adoptive parent to Henry. She just gave them memories, not created new lives. Of course it seems like writers didn't really think it through but it's not the first and definitely not the last time it happens. But I see what you mean so I guess we just have to agree to disagree on this one :)
ReplyDeleteIf it took every bit of evidence of those brought to this world by the first curse away, that would include the adoption record that Regina had. The new curse shouldn't have recreated it.
ReplyDeleteBut that would mean that Henry's neither Emma's nor Regina's and his life didn't existed since he was 3 weeks old till last year:P yeah, sloppy writing that is ;)
