I can't watch too many pirate shows at once, If this last I will watch it after Black Sails finishes, and also watching/reading One Piece.
Even then I was not interested in watching Blackbeard do his thing, especially when I'm following Other Captains Kind of weird watching other side.
I would not comment if I didn't watch it, but I watched like 4 minutes and then got all these had to go eat, and then while eating came to the above conclusion after thinking in my head.
Wasn't too keen on the idea of a series revolving around after Blackheard's death with this show being set in the 1720s(I believe), but the dialogue won me over. Everytime "The Malk" spoke as Blackbeard, it was just amazing…the pirate version of Hannibal, and NBC is on a roll with these shortened shows(I was also a fan of Dracula, but I digress…). Anyway, will be checking out the following episodes for sure.
Very good pilot nice set up of the characters, their relationships and the season long story. I'm intrigued by the deal with the Spaniards and Blackbeard's plot.
Dull. The action scenes are much too frenetic to cover up the fact that they aren't really doing anything. Much of the acting is wooden (hopefully that improves). Incredibly well bathed pirates. In fact, everything was far too clean to be believable. Since when do pirates get their hair and nails done every morning? There were a few characters that I might grow to like. I will give it one more episode, but it needs to improve significantly. So far I much prefer Black Sails.
It either needs to be more realistic or more over the top (like Burn Notice or Archer). It is unclear to me if we are supposed to take these characters seriously or not. I watched it expecting a pirate show and was disappointed. I will watch the next episode expecting a spy show and see if I like it any better.
Loved it ! Since Black Sails which I didn't like, I was waiting for it. I was looking for some action and that's what it is. I had no time to get bored. The quest, the secret plot, the innoncence of Fletcher, and the possible love story. Everything was cruelly great. Can't wait to see more of it.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
The pilot intrigued me and I will definitely be giving this show another chance.
ReplyDeleteI went in thinking it would be really horrible and something I would watch only to mock but...it was actually pretty good.
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch but mostly everyone on Twitter loved it, and it was the #1 trending topic on tvtag. NBC is off to a really great summer.

I thought the pilot was pretty good and the show has potential. I'll tune in next week to see where it goes.

ReplyDeleteWhy bother watching something just to mock it? Seems like it would be a waste of time...

ReplyDeleteExactly how I felt.
ReplyDeleteIt all felt too "Disney-fied" except for the fact the Disney pirate are actually more dirty and realistic! XD
The dialog felt too cute by half - just not believable. Even the great Malkovich could not save the poor dialog to my ears...
Yes, I had high hopes because of Malkovich.
