I like Gates stand by Beckett and try to protect her as the best of her abilities....and Bracken looked shocked seeming Beckett there.......I doubt the Bracken arc is over.....it too simple because of a recording
With the amazing SP's that were released last week I was worried that they had spilled all of the secrets but no; that episode was beyond awesome! I found myself only breathing during commercials.
Big props to the entire cast and crew for their amazing work. Stana was fantastic especially the last scene when her eyes were glistening with unspilled tears. Another fantastic episode from Terrance Paul Winter, he is now my favorite writer for Castle!
I thought it was an awesome episode. They did a great job wrapping up the Bracken story line, and I loved all the touches they added. I was pleasantly surprised with the flashback with Montgomery and him giving the final clue. I also loved how the touch of telling us the history behind the elephants on Beckett's desk and also having the critical piece of evidence hidden in them, in front of Beckett the whole time. It was a great moment to have Beckett be the one to arrest Bracken and both actors did such a great job. Jack Coleman really does a great job as Bracken, I can somewhat sympathize (I'm not sure if that's the best word but it's all I'm coming up with) with him because he does truly seem to want to help the people and to have wanted to keep his stalemate with Beckett. Stana Katic was amazing as always but I loved the restrained emotion she shows through her eyes throughout the arrest of Bracken. The tears barely being held back and her breaking voice did a great job of showing just how much it all meant to Beckett. I do kind of agree with comments I've seen before, I don't think it's over with Bracken based on that last stink eye he gave her. But at the end of the day it's great that he won't be able to be President anymore, no one wants a President accused of murder even if he doesn't get convicted, Wheldon referenced that for the political world when he was a suspect in a murder. And also everyone knows what type of man he truly is now. I thought it was an ironic touch to have him talking about "back room deals" and corruption right before he got arrested for just that
I forgot to add but I love the evolution and growth of Gates as well. That the boys have come to trust her enough to tell her about Bracken and that she showed so much trust in Beckett (and her team) and stood by her throughout everything.
Agree, but the we have a problem, the writers of this show don't know how to deal with the continuity of the storylines, so I don't know what will happen with Bracken, or maybe will see something at the end of S7 or S8. :p BTW this epi was the best of this season.
I don't think a recording is enough to convict him but at least there will some kind of investigation reopen again. Bracken has powerful connection and his lawyer will find a way to flushed the recording from record
wow... fantastic ep and awesome close to the big overlying mythology arc... well done example on just how well this show effortlessly pulls off light humor filled eps and tense drama like this one...kudos to the writers for not drawing this out (as well as the romance :) )and I look forward to seeing how everything will proceed from here...
It doesn't have to convict him of murder, just put him in the right place at the right time and would definitely be more than enough to get him out of the running for president and the mayor/attorney general/district attorney, and everyone else at the top would not want him to be their senator either.
Terrance Paul Winter and Rob Hanning! It was a collab! ;) But you are right! This episode was beyond awesome, one of the best of the entire series! EVERYONE brought their A-game, writers, cast & crew alike and it was a worthy conclusion of the Johanna Beckett arc! Everything came full circle! The twists thrown at us left and right during the epi had me on the edge of my seat and even though I didn't watch the sneaks I was already (accidentally) spoiled almost to the max but I STILL had NO IDEA!!! I've watched it already several times and I STILL CAN'T WORD!!!
I love this show so very very much! It continues to amaze me!!!
Continuity, ramifications and explanations has never been an issue to Marlowe so I don't think Vulcan's murder will ever a topic again. I don't think that plotholes are the result of the lack of time either - all the two-parter episodes since S2 were full of them. AM just doesn't care about it, rightly assuming that the fandom doesn't care about them either.
Awesome episode, really intense and had me on the edge of my seat. The look on Bracken's face when he sees Kate was priceless and the ending made me tear up.
In the tape Bracken says that he knows powerful people... Just because he's in jail doesn't mean he'll stop, and now that Kaye destroyed his career, I can't imagine what he's going to do to her :( I'm kind of worried
I have nothing to add to all those great comments..But only to say that this Episode was EPIC.... I love the idea of the Elephants detaining the truth that whole time and troning at plain sight... Her mother and Montgomerry gave her closure and the final piece to humiliate and arrest Bracken... I also love the whole teaming supporting Beckett like a family eventhough they were totally unable to make a move even Gates... I love
And like many fans here... That look Bracken gave seems to mean " This is not over" even if his political life is... This episode is now the best for me...
Good episode, but I just expected the take down of Bracken to be more spectacular than a cassette hidden in an elephant. Did love her arresting him on live TV though.
Wow! This was an immensely satisfying & badass end to Kate's mother's murder case..the case which has been key to Kate's successes & failures in equal measures. Kate arresting Bracken and walking him down the steps in handcuffs was as satisfying a closure as Jane killing Red John with his bare hands in The Mentalist, not to mention Castle standing by the side beaming with pride and Espo & Ryan escorting Bracken looking all sorts of official & badass.
- Kate was possibly even more badass here than when she went undercover and got caught by Vulcan Simmons. Faking being drugged and taking out Bracken's two thugs while being clubbed on the head with a bottle was just epic!
- The flashback to Montgomery catching Kate going through her mother's case files during her early years in the force was awesome. I thought it was just to add more gravity to the dire/hopeless situation Kate & Rick were in, but it turned out to be crucial to taking down Bracken.
- It was kind of poetic that the damning evidence was in those 'Elephants'...after all the years it was sitting on Kate's desk and the ample amount of screen time it got (since the very start of the show in fact!)
- Mr. Smith is alive, though the pleasure at seeing him alive was tempered down when he told Kate & Rick to just run.
- Finally...a sigh of relief and pride at Kate for finally taking down the person responsible for her mother's death. Immense gratitude to Rick too for standing by and supporting her despite the many dangers he was facing and Kate's stubbornness.
- Now the duo can finally approach their wedding in peace...oops there is one more item on the list: 3XK! Hope he thinks this summer is too warm for complicated plans to terrorize the duo!
Awesome, I think it was as good as 3x24 was. And that's saying something given 3x24 is for me the best of the entire series. Can we agree on how it was much better handled than the Red John storyline?
I only mentioned TPW specifically because I think I might love every episode he's had a hand in and I don't really have the same feelings about Rob Hanning...although I completely appreciate the work he's done.
I'm thinking it's not over yet. His chances of becoming the President are, surely. But if the case on him ever falls apart, he will be gunning for Kate.
Got to say this ep proved better than I thought. But I really hope that is the storyline over. You can milk a plot line to far you know. It wouldnt be the first show to push it so far so that all anyone wants is it to end already and I think that this one has reached its sell by date. Any further will be flogging a dead horse. I am not adverse to them coming up with another way for Bracken to re appear. I.E. another political case, corruption beyond him, etc. Or even a case linked to his connections. But Becketts mothers case should be over.
And god I really hope they don't head down the very, very tired old path of him extracting revenge from prison. It has been done in nearly every damn cop show in history. So I hope they show some originality if they do wish to use him again.
Because I have to admit he was a good baddie.
Bracken needing Beckets help would be an interesting twist if they wanted to bring him back at some point. Trust issues double and tripple cross possibilities. Some of his old cohorts trying to kill him possibly worried he might spil the beans to save his own hide.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
is it really over? don't think so
ReplyDeletebeyond awesome, all of them were so perfect, love Caskett, love the show, so proud to be a fan
ReplyDeleteThat was intense. So glad Beckett finally arrested her mother's murderer! And it was really nice (and surprising) to see Montgomery again.
ReplyDeleteGreat episode!
I like Gates stand by Beckett and try to protect her as the best of her abilities....and Bracken looked shocked seeming Beckett there.......I doubt the Bracken arc is over.....it too simple because of a recording
ReplyDeleteabsolutely amazing! but it is not over ;)

it definitely not over even with Bracken arrested......the evidence is weak as recording is not enough to convict someone of murder

ReplyDeleteyep he probably won't be a senator anymore but the only charge that might stick is corruption
ReplyDeleteI totally thought something was going to happen in the end while they were hugging.
ReplyDeleteI think this will more likely happens at the end of the next one. Not sure if this is going to be bad or good, the actors were really vague about it.
ReplyDeletewaaaaaaay beyond awesome!!!!! I loved it!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe a little too dues ex machina with her having the evidence the whole time. But overall not bad. And it was time they finally destroyed Bracken.
ReplyDeletethe evidence may not be enough need more than just a recording
ReplyDeleteIt's enough to destroy a man's political career. The police had less on Gary Condit and the Levy scandal destroyed him.
ReplyDeleteThe ending scene, from the moment Bracken sees Beckett to the the very last second, is so beautiful - and great music, too!
ReplyDeleteThat flashback with Capt. Montgomery made me tear up a little! It's been three years but I miss him still. Amazing episode! :D
ReplyDeletehe finish as a politician but the contract killing is unlikely to stick with no evidence
ReplyDeleteTerrance Paul Winter and Rob Hanning! It was a collab! ;) But you are right! This episode was beyond awesome, one of the best of the entire series! he be back but I not sure how they use him now? I think a two part episode would be perfect

ReplyDeleteYou can't really get more damning than a taped confession.
