PENNY DREADFUL Outdelivers Premieres Of HOMELAND And MASTERS OF SEX In Its Debut –
Watched By Over 2.3 Million SHOWTIME Subscribers
Series Marks Youngest-Skewing Premiere Since Dexter®
From three-time Oscar® nominee John Logan, the SHOWTIME drama series PENNY DREADFUL debuted to 1.443 million viewers last night, besting the series premieres of recent network dramas HOMELAND and MASTERS OF SEX by five percent (both delivered 1.38 million) in their first seasons. The series premiere of PENNY DREADFUL drew 872,000 at 10 p.m.
PENNY DREADFUL, which debuted to wide critical acclaim, was sampled across SHOWTIME ON DEMAND® and SHOWTIME ANYTIME® in the two weeks leading up to its premiere last night. Within that time period an additional 900,000 SHOWTIME subscribers sampled the series, bringing the PENNY DREADFUL series premiere total to 2.3 million viewers.
62 percent of the PENNY DREADFUL premiere audience last night was aged 18-49. That is the youngest-skewing audience for a SHOWTIME drama since Dexter’s series premiere in 2006 with 65 percent.
The series premiere was also offered across multiple platforms including YouTube, the SHOWTIME website, via a number of television providers' websites, on the SHOWTIME Preview app on Smart TVs, as well as for download as a free video podcast on iTunes. Additional online sampling data will be available in the upcoming weeks for those platforms though early data shows that over 500,000 non-SHOWTIME viewers have sampled the series to-date.
SHOWTIME offered a Free Preview weekend this past weekend, the data for those non-subscribers is not included in the 2.3 million viewer count listed above.

Wow!!!
ReplyDeleteOh very nice, maybe Showtime will start ordering more genre projects. And no I am STILL NOT OVER DEAD LIKE ME GODDAMMIT.
ReplyDeleteIt deserves it, it was excellent :)
ReplyDeleteOff to a great start. Nice. Now where's the second episode? Showtime had said they would upload it online soon after the Pilot. I don't want to wait till next week.
ReplyDeleteWOO. Great to hear. With all my shows ending it's good to see I'll have a new obsession for the summer.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's surprising to me!
ReplyDeleteGood news though since I think the show is very well done and entertaining.
@Kissan Capers @CGS @Eric Van Velson @Teen Wolfers @DarqueMode Okay, just found out that the second episode is available online at Showtime................. and other places.
ReplyDeleteShowtime Anytime

ReplyDeleteRenewal guaranteed.
ReplyDeleteWell deserved, this show is amazing.
ReplyDeleteit deserves it, great show.
ReplyDeleteThey have Eva Green playing a psychic chic. This cannot possibly go wrong.
ReplyDeleteGreat news! Not a surprise though.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I havent watched the second ep yet but I will in a minute :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like I'm in the minority here. Granted the acting was excellent, locale, set designs, costuming were all fabulous. While I did not mind the pornographic content of the show, there was way too much blood and gore for me. I thought it was done excessively but that's my personal opinion. We all know what they say about that...hmmmn? I won't be watching the rest of the series.
ReplyDeleteF Yay!
ReplyDeleteI'll be even more happier on Sundays for a long time now!
I'm not familiar with Showtime but I am guessing this is good?
ReplyDeleteUFFFF!!! Just finished watching the second episode. Creepy. Scary. Amazing. I hope the mods put up a new thread where the fans who gave watched the second episode can safely discuss it.
ReplyDeleteGreat news. I love the show and the acting. Does anyone know how many episodes the first season has?
ReplyDeleteI liked episode 2 better than the pilot. The ending was awesome!
If I recall right, it's an 8 episode season.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I´m glad that it is short, 8 seems fitting.
ReplyDeleteIt is really good. Great cast, but it is a very different kind of show. Check out the promos and see if it is something you would like.
ReplyDeleteI meant the ratings not the show. I agree the show is great, but are these good enough numbers for Showtime?
