Per deadline: No word from NBC yet but I hear that the cast of Parenthood have reached an agreement with NBC, paving the way to a 13-episode sixth and final season. With everyone willing to bring the beloved show to a proper conclusion, I hear there was a compromise on all sides. The actors had been asked to go down from 13 to 9 episodes. I hear the final count is somewhere in the middle.
Update May 10th: Talks still ongoing
Parenthood: Hearing talks btwn actors' reps, NBC are ongoing today despite talk of yesterday being a deadline. Bravermans circle wagons!

Have we just seen the last of Parenthood? The critically praised NBC family drama had been expected to get one final season to close its run. I hear that is in jeopardy. The plan had been for a 13-episode final chapter, matching the sendoff of another acclaimed but ratings-challenged NBC series, comedy 30 Rock. However, in order to cut costs, I hear the network, which owns the show, has asked the large cast, which features a number of A-listers, to agree to reduce their guarantee to 9 episodes, meaning each cast member would appear in and paid for 9 of the 13 final episodes. I hear the two sides are at an impasse, with some of the main leads balking at the offer with the clock ticking. There is a deadline on the table and, if an agreement is not reached this afternoon, the series may go away.

afternoon ? ahh it weird to think about that in us its afternoon, here in Norway its just passed midnight :P
ReplyDeleteSo the Parenthood renewal should come soon.
ReplyDeleteI hope it's renewed I take 9 episodes even tho want more
ReplyDeletePlease please please give us a final season
ReplyDeleteSame, lol
ReplyDeletein what country do you live in ?
ReplyDeleteStill deciding whether or not to show mercy.
ReplyDeleteHaha it's also after midnight here. I refuse to go to sleep before I know Parenthood's fate
ReplyDeleteyep, i always thinks that when i am finished at work when it is afternoon here people in us just wakes up is funny. lol :) but i actually havent watched parenthood yet so i dont care what it comes to, but because i know the feeling when a good tv show that i like is cancelled i will hope for a final season for the fans :)
ReplyDeleteBut 10 would make 100...
ReplyDeleteok so the clock is over midnight there too ?
ReplyDeleteFrom the the same article, "each cast member would appear in and paid for 9 of the 13 final episodes."
ReplyDeleteThis article is WRONG. The plan still is for a 13-episode-final-season, but each cast member would only appear in 9 of them. Just read it over at Deadline...
ReplyDeleteNBC is a giant bully! First they make the cast take a pay cut and now they pull this...grrr! Why didn't they just cancel it and act like the trolls that we know them to be instead of pulling all of this garbage!
ReplyDeleteAt least you may get 9 episodes. As for Community, Believe, Crisis, Revolution.....
ReplyDeleteWow. I'm in US, Georgia and it's six thirty in the evening down here LOL
ReplyDeleteGuys it's a 13 episode order but the main cast can only appear in nine out of the 13. So each member only gets to be in nine episodes out of the 13 so essentially they would space out who was in what episode in order to reduce cost
ReplyDeleteYou're right and I apologize for whining when others are hurting because their beloved shows were cancelled, I too will miss some of the cancelled shows.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they should compromise. Do 10 episodes instead of 13 and than have each cast member only available for 9 episodes.
ReplyDeleteWell that's goofy. Aren't the main cast, Graham, Krause, Shepherd, etc. generally in all of the episodes?
ReplyDeleteAs long as NBC airs the final 5 episodes of Crisis than I have no complaints since the story is resolved according to the creator of the show.
ReplyDeleteyeah i know :) hehe
ReplyDeleteAt this point they should just renew it for 9 episodes
ReplyDeleteSo these actors (A-listers that's a joke) would rather have ZERO (oh and pilot season is over), than get a paycheck for 9-episodes. So if NBC said, fine, we'll do a nine-episode final season and everyone is in it, would they still balk? Or better, NBC says cancelled? Cause, you know, Parenthood was knocking that demo number out of the park.
ReplyDeleteSeems like the best option to me.
ReplyDeleteThis is such bullshit, the only reason this seasons ratings were bad was the timealot NBC gave it. Every other season pulled good ratings. Is the head of NBC taking advice from that egotistical idiot who runs the CW? Gosh. How ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteSome of them may already have better offers lined up.
ReplyDeleteDeadline update their original post.
ReplyDeleteActually it'll be 13 episodes, but 9 episodes for the actors. Meaning you might get several episodes where several actors are not in it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen this show but if it gets renewed I am sad cause it would surpass CHUCK's episodes and seasons :D CHUCK struggled alot and I was suprised it got a 5th season or full 4th season... Parenthood didn't have the best ratings on S4 so I was suprised it got a FULL 5th season. Did the season end on a cliffhanger, if not, cancel it please! I had followed Community for 3 years and wanted it to be canceled after S4 rather than almost get a 6th season ! At least NBC considers a bit of the fan base because otherwise they would have Canceled CHUCK after S3 Community after 2nd and Hannibal after 1st :(
ReplyDeleteSo should we take this as NBC is cheap so the show won't be back? Has anyone heard of a final word yet?
ReplyDeleteThey must've spent all of their $$ on the Olympics...that "show" got a pickup for longer than I'll be alive...well not really...but TV probably won't even exist until 2032!
ReplyDeleteGive it a final season NBC

Considering the show was pulling low 1s, it shouldn't even be coming back. The actors who are holding out (likely Graham), are foolish. Pilot season is over - take your nine episodes and be grateful you've got a paycheck. Better than nothing. For those who don't want to do, sign the others, divvy up the holdouts share and increase their episode count.
ReplyDeleteThe low 1s your referring to is because of the timeslot. NOTHING on nbc has done as good as Parenthood on Thursdays. And every other season the ratings were consistant 2s. And Lauren Graham is a terrific actress. How do you know its not Erika (she seems more high matience) you must not like Lauren. And the show deserves a final farewell seasonits earned it. I
ReplyDeleteThe most fascinating renewal story of the season by far. Perhaps the solution is to just do a final season of 9 episodes, but that would not lower the cost per episode. Also a 9 episode final season could air in January between the fall and spring runs of a 22 episode season show.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling this will be worked out. This is the little show that could. I should probably watch it sometime haha
ReplyDeleteThey really are dragging this out. Just renew it already. Or don't. I just want an answer.. been waiting since yesterday. I want another season and ill take 10 or 11 episodes. Just give us something damnit. I hate this time of year for tv.. its always so nerve recking
ReplyDeleteTime for the bear to FINALLY go and hibernate. Unless I'm missing something...
ReplyDeleteFamily Guy?
ReplyDeleteNot really worth my time. Oh well! I had fun destroying everyone's shows and feelings this year! See you next time where I'll be even worse!
ReplyDeleteFinally. I'm sorry bear! But on the bright side Net year looks awfully tasty.
ReplyDeleteMike & Molly?
ReplyDeleteAre you guys actually trying to make me cancel stuff now?
ReplyDeleteYou're right what was I thinking I love that show.. You may go to sleep sweet dreams and thank you for canceling Dads LOL
ReplyDeleteI hope they get 13. Every episode is solid.
ReplyDeleteHEY BEAR
ReplyDeleteTHROW UP COMMUNITY OR I'M GONNA HUNT YOU.
I MAY START BY THE ONES FROM CHICAGO
Fantastic news and well deserved.
ReplyDeleteAnd where's the official press release?
ReplyDeleteIt hasn't been officially renewed yet. I wonder what's the wait.
ReplyDeleteLet me say this: if the rumor about the talks is total true (Nbc willing to produce 13 eps but at the same time wanting to pay the cast just for 9 eps) this whole thing is a total SH #T!
ReplyDeleteI just call this with his own name: BLACKMAIL. And it's from Nbc.
Is there a labor union for tv professionals in the US? What do they say about this story?
There's nothing fascinating about a story of actors being blackmailed by a notable broadcast network.
