Damon Wayans Jr. has been made a regular on the upcoming fourth season of Fox comedy New Girl after recurring in Season 3. Wayans Jr. originated his character, Coach, in the pilot as a regular in second position to ABC’s Happy Endings. New Girl got picked up to series but so did Happy Endings for a second season. Instead of recasting the role, New Girl introduced a new character, leaving the door open for Wayans’ Coach to return, which happened last fall, after Happy Endings’ cancellation. Wayans Jr. kept his options open. He had a comedy project at Fox with a production commitment, which didn’t go to pilot, and was offered several high-profile pilots, including ABC’s Kevin Hart comedy, CBS’ How I Met Your Mother spinoff and Fox’s Sober Companion but ended up not doing a pilot and is now committing to New Girl full-time for next season.

ReplyDeleteGreat news! Coach has been one of the best things about this season.
ReplyDeleteProvided that he and Cece never get together again, that's great news! :)
ReplyDeleteExcellent! :-) Although I still hope that he will scream more like he did in the pilot episode.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest I kind of thought he already was. I guess I just didn't pay attention. Good news!
